HENRY MANCINI

• Born on April 16, 1924, in Cleveland, OH.

•His legal name was Enrico Nicola Mancini.

• At the age of 8 years old he learned how to play the piccolo flute.

•At the age of 12 he started playing the piano.

• He played the piano throughout high school for weddings.

• He got paid $2-$3 for each job.

• His influence other than his father was the radio.

• He listened to records over and over until he knew all the different parts and people.

• In 1942 he went to Julliard School of Music.

Henry met Ginny while he was the pianist/arranger for the Glenn Miller-Tex Beneke Orchestra in 1946.

Married in 1947 after a year of dating.

Married for 43 years

They had 3 children together

0:01- Introduction: The piano is the first instrument to start the song off. Then the timbre of triangle or cymbal is tough for me to distinguish between. The bass cello is being plucked softly keeping the rhythm throughout the song along with the triangle or cymbal. The rhythm is a simple two beats and repeats itself the entire song. The tempo is an andante; very smooth but not too fast or too slow.0:13-Melody is brought in by the clarinet. The clarinet is very prominent and stands out from the other instruments. The range seems to be an arch contour. With the highest note being held for 3 or 4 counts and then the music descends and the lowest note is also played out for 3 or 4 counts. The melody then repeats itself 3 times. The bass cello and triangle are continuing with the beat.

0:01-Introduction: The start of the song begins with the piano playing a deep tone and then soft beats on the drum join in. The piano keeps the rhythm at the low end of the scale but at the higher end it is also playing the melody. The timbre of the piano is louder than the drum making the piano stand out more. The tempo is an adagio, slow and stately. 1:59-The piano slows down and what sounds like a fiddle starts to play the chorus of the song. The fiddle picks up the tempo a bit on the melody as the brass instruments continue to softly play the harmony in the background. The piano is also playing in the background what sounds like a major scale and repeats the scale twice than stops playing.

2:49-The violins play the melody of the song while the soft beats of the drum continue to play the same rhythm. 3:04-The saxophone starts to play the end of the song slowly tapering off the volume as the song winds down. The soft beat of the drum has stopped playing the rhythm and the horns are also decreasing their volume but continuing to play the long drawn out notes of the harmony until both the saxophone and horns come to a stop ending the song.3:38-End

0:01-Introduction; the piano starts the harmony and melody off in what sounds like a major scale. The beat is adagio to begin with. The music is ascending and the form is a little repetitive.

0:15-Guitar joins in taking over the rhythm of what sounds like a repetitive 4 beats. While the piano increases the volume to play the melody of the song.

0:30-Violins and harp join with an ascending harmony. The guitar continues to play softly in the background keeping the pace for the song.

1:18-Climax of the song is when the volume increases due to the vocals joining in. The vocals sing the same ascending melody seven times before they stop singing. In the background the violin and harp continue to play the harmony. The tempo has stayed the same very adagio almost andante.

1:38-Vocals stop singing and French horns come in to play a few drawn out notes before the piano comes in again. This time the piano is the only instrument playing. The piano solo brings a soft feeling to the song.

What sounds like the clarinet comes in after two beats and is playing the melody. The tempo of the song has an adagio feeling about it. The melody is ascending.

2:30-Coda-the song starts to conclude all the vocals join together for the same notes and slowly decrease the volume of the notes their singing until they are softly singing and holding the last note they all drift off quietly as the violins and clarinet play the last few notes.2:41-End
