Class Times: Tuesday/Thursday 2:00 PM—2:55 PM Course Description:

This class is for students seventh grade and up and will focus on Latin grammar, vocabulary and translation. The class will also explore English derivatives that come from Latin. Students do not need any prior foreign language experience. However, they should have a good knowledge of English grammar. Students will use the Henle First Year Latin text. The class will meet once a week for thirty weeks. Mrs. Sheppard will provide quizzes, tests and study plans. Successful completion of this class will yield one high school foreign language credit.

Attendance

Attendance is a vital part of this course, therefore students are required to attend class sessions and participate actively in discussions. No make-up of missed classes is available but the classes are recorded. The student is responsible for watching the archive and obtaining any notes or assignments from any class missed.

Evaluation

The final grade is determined on the following basis: Tests/Projects 50% Quizzes 25% Attendance / Class Participation 25%

Calendar

August 23: Classes start October 4, 6: No Classes, Fall Break November 22, 23: Thanksgiving Break; No classes December 13-15: Exams; End of First Semester; Progress Reports January 3: First Day of Second Semester February 14-16: No Classes, Break April 3-5: Easter Break April 24,26: Exams; End of Second Semester; Final Progress Reports

Tests/Exams

E-mailed to parents at the end of class Thursday. They are due the following Saturday (a week and two days later) by 5:00 P.M. Students are not to use books, notes, et cetera on the exams unless directed.

Classroom Rules:

1. Respect yourself and others.

2. Raise your hand if you wish to speak and wait until addressed. 3. Ask questions via chatbox. 4. Stay on-topic! 5. Do not use your whiteboard tools unless directed. 6. Review your translations and vocabulary daily! Do not get behind!

Homework:

There is approximately thirty minutes of homework each day. Homework

includes memorization of vocabulary as well as grammar exercises or

translation. Every other week, students will have a quiz or test dealing

with the new grammar and vocabulary.
