Ponder This: “We desire to be able to welcome Jesus at Christmas-time, not in a cold manger of our heart, but in a heart full of love and humility, in a heart so pure, so immaculate, so warm with love for one another.”
—Saint Teresa of Calcutta
The Nativity of the Lord (Christmas)
W hen the angels went away
from them to heaven, the
shepherds said to one
another, “Let us go, then, to Bethlehem
to see this thing that has taken place,
which the Lord has made known to us.”
So they went in haste and found Mary
and Joseph, and the infant lying in the
manger. When they saw this, they made
known the message that had been told
them about this child. All who heard it
were amazed by what had been told
them by the shepherds. And Mary kept
all these things, reflecting on them in her
heart. Then the shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God for all they
had heard and seen, just as it had been
told to them.

Sacraments
Baptisms Baptisms for infants through 2nd grade are generally held during any of the weekend Masses (except during Advent and Lent.)
Please note: you must complete an online baptism request form located on our website before attending the baptism classes. If you are registered with another parish, you must provide a letter from your parish confirming that you are registered there and are regularly attending Mass.
There are three classes which parents and godparents are required to attend. The first covers the responsibilities parents and godparents promise toward keeping the flame of faith alive in their child/godchild. The second will reaffirm and respond to questions from the first and discuss the ongoing involvement in the child’s continued growth in the faith of the Church through the Sacrament of Confirmation. And the third class will discuss the baptismal rite itself.
Classes will be scheduled and conducted by Deacon Richard Ramm upon receipt of the completed baptism request form.
Weddings
All weddings must be scheduled six months in advance. A marriage preparatory class (four sessions) is required. Contact the parish office to determine availability and to schedule your wedding.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Soon our diocese will be taking up The Catholic Relief
Services Collection. By participating in this collection, you
are responding to Jesus in disguise. At this time there are
100 million people in need in our world. The CRS
collection provides services for immigrants and
humanitarian aid in the wake of natural disasters. They are
the first responders when natural disasters occur such as
those recently in Haiti and the Philippines. This is the main
overseas charity arm of the American Catholic Church.
Your support of this collection makes a difference for
so many around the world. Please prayerfully consider how
you can support the collection this year. If you want to
learn more about the collection and the people who benefit,
please visit www.usccb.org/catholic-relief.
Please be generous in the Catholic Relief Services
Collection. Your support truly makes a difference.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Randolph R. Calvo
Bishop of Reno
Epiphany Blessing Kit
We will celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany on January
7th and 8th. At all the Masses we will be distributing
Epiphany Blessing Kits and we invite each family to take
one for your family’s home. Using this kit is a way for
families to gather together and to ask for God’s blessing
on their home and on those who live in or visit the home.
It is an invitation for Jesus to be a daily guest to the
home, and for him to watch over all our comings and
goings, our conversations, our work and play, our joys
and sorrows.
The Epiphany Blessing kit describes a traditional way of
doing this by using chalk to write above the home’s
entrance: 20 + C + M + B + 17.
The letters C, M, and B have two meanings. They are the
initials of the traditional names of the three magi:
Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar. They are also the
abbreviation for the Latin phrase Christus mansionem
benedicat, “May Christ bless the house.” The “+” signs
represent the cross and 2017 is the year.

Centering Prayer An Introduction to Contemplative Practice
St. Albert’s Centering Prayer group, led by JoAnn and Chuck Baird, is on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in the chapel.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CC), § 2653, says:
The Church ‘forcefully and specially exhorts all the Christian faithful…to learn ‘the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ’ (Phil 3:8) by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures…Let them remem-ber, however, that prayer should accompany the reading of Sacred Scripture, so that a dialogue takes place between God and man. For ‘we speak to him when we pray; we listen to him when we read the divine oracles.’
Centering Prayer is a spiritual custom based upon the Word of God, Lectio Divina. We strive to in-crease the time we spend alone with God to 15-20 minutes twice a day. The purpose of our gathering is to encourage one another each month in this sacred, individual practice, in the words of CC, § 2560, in “the encounter of God’s thirst with ours.”
All members of the Centering Prayer group invite you to join them in the joy of this spiritual discipline.
A tiskets a taskets, the wine tasting
needs some baskets.
If you have any "like new" baskets please drop them off at the church or parish office. We need 40 baskets to use for the silent auction items. Thank you

“The poor you will always have with you, and whenever you wish you can do
good to them.” [Mk 14:7]
There is a real need for individual packets of dried
milk and single serving size pork and beans, tuna
fish, Vienna sausage, or any other food item that
come in five ounce cans. These items are pre-
cooked and can be eaten directly from the can if
necessary. I am trying to figure out how to
package these items in something other than a
brown paper lunch bag since I like to put several
items in this bag for a complete day of food and
the lunch bags aren’t big or sturdy enough to hold everything. If you
have any ideas please let me know.
Those in need are so grateful for your gifts
of non-perishable food, clothing, and
toiletries.
Thank you for all you do for those in need
and may God bless you.

Deacon’s OutreachDeacon’s Outreach God Descends To Man: So man can ascend to God
I t is difficult to imagine a time without Christmas
and yet we know once upon a time the world knew
nothing of him, for far more of history has gone
before than after. But there came a night when God
condescended to become man, so that we might ascend
to Him. How fortunate then are we to know and to have
received the gift of Jesus, that most precious of gifts,
God’s only Son.
May the joy and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with
each and every one of you this Christmas and may
Almighty God descend upon you and remain with you
forever.
