I. INFORMACIÓN GENERAL DEL CURSO

A. Descripción del curso

Los estudiantes aprenderán a planificar y desarrollar estratégicamente modelos dirigidos a

identificar soluciones eficaces y eficientes relacionadas al escenario laboral, tales como:

fiscales/impuestos, conservación de recursos y energía verde, empleomanía, servicios de apoyo

informáticos, sistemas de cola, medicamentos, índice de casuística, certificaciones y

acreditaciones institucionales y cumplimiento, entre otros. El curso fomentará una actitud

proactiva para el análisis y evaluación, con el objetivo primordial de maximizar la

competitividad para la empresa en la cual laboran.

B. Objetivos de contenido

Al finalizar el curso, el estudiante será capaz de

1. Aplicar estrategias de solución y análisis de problemas para evaluar asuntos de manejo en

el sistema de salud.

2. Desarrollar estrategias de evaluación de programas para identificar problemas en el área

de servicios de salud.

3. Desarrollar planes para programas de servicios de salud.

4. Analizar objetivamente evidencia científica en el área de servicios de salud para aplicar

en el desarrollo de planes de programas y estrategias de evaluación.

5. Aplicar prácticas de colaboración interprofesional para desarrollar planes para programas,

basados en evidencia, para el manejo de problemas que surjan en los escenarios de

servicios de salud.



6. Demostrar conocimiento de los conceptos, racional y desarrollo de planes y evaluación de

servicios de salud.

7. Demostrar conocimiento sobre diversos acercamientos de evaluación y planificación

tomando en consideración diversidad de las poblaciones en áreas geográficas específicas.

C. Objetivos de lenguaje

Al finalizar el curso, el estudiante será capaz de

1. Comprender discursos orales, en inglés/español, a partir de los estímulos auditivos que

se presenten en el curso tales como vídeos, presentaciones audiovisuales y otras

actividades interactivas.

2. Expresarse ideas con propiedad y corrección, tanto en inglés como en español, de

manera que desarrolle al máximo sus destrezas de comunicación oral y aplique sus

conocimientos sobre el curso a su área de especialidad y la vida cotidiana.

3. Investigar los datos que recopile, de los diversos recursos de la clase, tanto en inglés

como en español, de manera que se beneficie autónomamente de la lectura como fuente

de información y enriquecimiento cultural.

4. Emplear los principios de la gramática y ortografía española/inglesa desde una postura

personal, crítica analítica y creativa de manera que provea datos pertinentes

relacionados con los temas del curso.

El estudiante debe realizar todas las actividades antes del taller utilizando el contenido, la

GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION

A. Course Description

Students will learn to strategically plan and develop models aimed at identifying effective and

efficient solutions related to the labor scene, including: taxes, resource conservation, green

energy, workers, computer support services, queuing system, medications, case mix,

institutional certification and accreditation, compliance, among others. The course will

encourage a proactive approach to the analysis and evaluation with the primary objective of

maximizing the competiveness of the company they work for.

B. Content Objectives

Upon completing this course, the student will be able to

1. Explain problem analysis and solution strategies used to evaluate management related

to health system issues.

2. Develop program evaluation strategies to identify problems in the area of health

services.

3. Develop plans for health services programs.

4. Analyze scientific evidence in the area of health services to implement in the

development of program plans and assessment strategies.

5. Apply practices of interprofessional collaboration to develop plans for programs, based

on evidence, for the management of problems that arise in health care scenarios.

6. Demonstrate understanding of the concepts, reasoning, and development of plans and

assessment of health services.

7. Demonstrate understanding of different approaches for assessment and planning while

taking into account diversity of populations in specific geographical areas.

Upon completing this course, the student will be able to

1. Comprehend oral discussions in English/Spanish based on auditory stimuli presented

during the course such as videos, audiovisual presentations, and interactive activities.

2. Express him/herself in English/Spanish correctly and coherently, to fully develop

his/her oral communication skills and apply knowledge of the course to their area of

specialty and everyday life.

3. Investigate information obtained from the different course resources, in

English/Spanish, in order to benefit from reading as a source of information and cultural

enrichment.

4. Apply correct grammar and principles of writing in English/Spanish when expressing a

personal, critical, and creative point of view, in order to provide information related to

the course.

The final grade is based on the total points by workshop (30% for languages and 70% for the content

area.) Average the final grade based on the criteria that appears to the left in the chart (the final

grade represents 50% for the Spanish language and 50% for the English language.)

TALLER UNO

A. Objetivos de contenido

Al completar el taller, el estudiante será capaz de

1. Explicar la historia de la evaluación de programas y justificar su importancia en el

desarrollo de programas dirigidos a mejorar la salud de la población.

2. Sugerir posibles maneras de identificar barreras, problemas y necesidades que deben

ser atendidas de acuerdo con la situación presentada.

3. Evaluar el contenido y la importancia de un programa para mejorar un sistema de

servicios de salud.

4. Identificar posibles decisores o partes interesadas (stakeholders) que deben estar

involucrados en el desarrollo de la evaluación de un programa de salud.

B. Objetivos de lenguaje

El estudiante será capaz de

1. Escuchar con atención las aportaciones de los compañeros a las discusiones en clase

sobre posibles stakeholders que deben estar involucrados en el desarrollo de la

evaluación de un programa de salud y otros temas relevantes, para contribuir

información precisa que sea beneficiosa para el enriquecimiento de conocimientos

para todos.

2. Demostrar buenas destrezas orales en el foro de discusión oral sobre la historia de la

evaluación, sus orígenes, de acuerdo con lo establecido por el autor Peter Rossi.

3. Investigar sobre diferentes maneras de identificar barreras, problemas y necesidades

que deben ser atendidas de acuerdo con la situación presentada y sobre posibles

decisores o stakeholders que deben estar involucrados en el desarrollo de la

evaluación de un programa de salud y la importancia de los mismos, para poder



completar exitosamente y con corrección las asignaciones y actividades

correspondientes.

4. Redactar un ensayo en el cual evalúe la importancia de los stakeholders, explique

por qué deben ser incluidos en el proceso de evaluación y describa el rol de los

stakeholders, administradores y evaluadores en el mejoramiento continuo de

programas de servicios de salud, demostrando aplicación de nuevos conocimientos y

buenas destrezas de escritura en español.

C. Actividades antes del taller

1. Investigue la definición de los siguientes términos, relacionados a los conceptos del

taller. Escriba dos oraciones para cada uno, explicando el mismo. Esté preparado para

participar en una actividad colaborativa en clase.

2. Utilice la Biblioteca Virtual, el Internet y otros recursos académicos del E-Lab, como

libros electrónicos, para investigar sobre diferentes maneras de identificar barreras,

problemas y necesidades que deben ser atendidas de acuerdo con la situación

presentada. Prepare un resumen y llévelo a clases para contribuir a la discusión del

material y aclarar dudas.



3. El facilitador creará un foro de discusión oral en la herramienta Voice Board de

Blackboard.

a. En dicho foro, el estudiante elaborará sobre la historia de la evaluación y sus

orígenes, de acuerdo con lo establecido por Peter Rossi.

b. Además, justificarán la importancia de la evaluación en el desarrollo de

programas dirigidos a mejorar la salud de la población.

c. Los estudiantes deberán responder y comentar sobre las respuestas de dos de

sus compañeros.

d. El facilitador utilizará el Apéndice A: Rúbrica de comunicación oral para

evaluar esta actividad.

4. Redacte un ensayo, número de páginas determinado por el facilitador, en el que

evalúe la importancia de los stakeholders, explique por qué deben ser incluidos en el

proceso de evaluación y describa el rol de los stakeholders, administradores y

evaluadores en el mejoramiento continuo de programas de servicios de salud.

a. Refiérase al Apéndice E: Guías de redacción para realizar un trabajo escrito

eficaz.

b. Asegúrese de redactar según APA, incluya las citas y referencias y envíelo a

NetTutor, específicamente al Paper Center, para solicitar retroalimentación en

las áreas de gramática y organización.

c. Incorpore la retroalimentación a su trabajo escrito y lleve su ensayo revisado y

la retroalimentación de NetTutor a la clase

d. El facilitador enviará los trabajos escritos a SafeAssignTM para detectar casos

de plagio.



e. El facilitador utilizará el Apéndice B: Rúbrica de redacción para evaluar este

trabajo.

5. Investigue el significado del término evaluación, aplicado a servicios de salud.

Prepare un mapa conceptual con una explicación detallada de este concepto. Además,

diseñe un flujograma sobre los pasos a seguir en la evaluación de los servicios de

salud. Prepárese para participar en una actividad colaborativa en clase.

6. El facilitador creará un foro de discusión escrita, en la herramienta Discussion Board.

En dicho foro los alumnos responderán a las siguientes preguntas:

a. ¿Qué es investigación evaluativa de servicios de salud?

b. ¿Cuándo ocurrió el auge (boom) de lo que es dicha evaluación?

c. ¿Cómo definen los autores de los textos indicados en la Guía de estudio la

evaluación de programas?

El resto de la clase reaccionará a los comentarios de por lo menos tres compañeros,

indicando si están de acuerdo o en desacuerdo con los mismos y explicando el

raciocinio de sus respuestas. El facilitador utilizará el Apéndice A: Rúbrica de

redacción para evaluar esta actividad.

7. Después de investigar sobre la evaluación de servicios de salud y la evaluación de

necesidades de prestación de servicios de salud, diseñe un gráfico en el cual distingue

entre las mismas. Traiga su trabajo al salón de clases para participar en una actividad.

8. Refiriéndose al Apéndice F: Guías de autorreflexión, escriba su reflexión acera de lo

siguiente; siga las instrucciones del facilitador para su entrega oportuna:



a. Si usted fuera stakeholder en un programa de salud, ¿por qué piensa usted que

debería estar involucrado en el desarrollo de la evaluación del mismo?

Explique su postura.

b. El facilitador utilizará el Apéndice B: Rúbrica de redacción para evaluar esta

actividad.

9. Luego de tomar la prueba diagnóstica, vaya a Rosetta Stone Advantage y comience a

trabajar los ejercicios que se han diseñado para desarrollar sus destrezas lingüísticas

en español.

10. Empiece a preparar el portafolio digital; siga las instrucciones estipuladas en el

Digital Performance Portfolio Assessment Handbook que se encuentra en Blackboard.

D. Actividades durante el taller

1. El facilitador diseñará una actividad, puede ser rompehielos, para captar la

participación de todos los estudiantes; proveerá a los estudiantes su información de

contacto, y se elegirá al representante estudiantil.

2. El facilitador escogerá uno de los temas del curso para que los estudiantes contesten las

primeras tres columnas del diagrama que se encuentra en el Apéndice G: KWHLAQ

Chart. Una vez las completen, las discutirán en clase. Es necesario que los alumnos

vayan llenando el resto de las columnas a lo largo del curso, de manera que las

discutan en la última semana.

3. El facilitador dividirá la clase en parejas o tríadas.

a. Los estudiantes se referirán a los resúmenes escritos antes del taller sobre

diferentes maneras de identificar barreras, problemas y necesidades que deben

ser atendidas de acuerdo con la situación presentada.



b. Llegarán a un consenso, recopilarán la información más importante y relevante

y lo presentarán al resto de la clase.

c. Los colegas les harán preguntas, y el facilitador aclarará dudas que no fueron

contestadas.

d. El facilitador utilizará el Apéndice B: Rúbrica de redacción para evaluar los

resúmenes y el Apéndice C: Rúbrica de participación para evaluar la actividad

en clase.

4. El facilitador exhibirá dos hojas de papel milimetrado (chart paper). Uno llevará el

título de evaluación de servicios de salud, y el otro se titulará evaluación de

necesidades de prestación de servicios de salud.

a. Usando como referencia los gráficos preparados antes del taller, cada alumno

escribirá un dato de información en cada hoja y lo explicará al resto de la clase.

b. Se repetirá este paso hasta que todos los estudiantes hayan participado o hasta

que las características de cada evaluación se hayan discutido.

c. El facilitador utilizará el Apéndice B: Rúbrica de redacción para evaluar los

gráficos y el Apéndice C: Rúbrica de participación para evaluar esta actividad.

5. El facilitador presentará el esqueleto de un mapa conceptual y de un flujograma.

a. Los alumnos se referirán a los organizadores creados antes del taller.

b. Cada estudiante añadirá información al mapa conceptual sobre la explicación

del término evaluación aplicado a servicios de salud, y al flujograma sobre los

pasos a seguir en la evaluación de los servicios de salud.

c. Brevemente explicarán la información que añadieron.

d. Los alumnos continuarán con estos pasos hasta que el facilitador determine que

los conceptos importantes fueron cubiertos.



e. El facilitador utilizará el Apéndice B: Rúbrica de redacción para evaluar los

organizadores individuales y el Apéndice A: Rúbrica de comunicación oral

para evaluar esta actividad.

6. El facilitador dirigirá una discusión acerca de posibles decisores o partes interesadas

(stakeholders) que deben estar involucrados en el desarrollo de la evaluación de un

programa de salud.

a. En dicha discusión evaluarán la importancia de los mismos, explicarán por qué

deben ser incluidos en el proceso de evaluación y describirán el rol de los

stakeholders, administradores y evaluadores en el mejoramiento continuo de

programas de servicios de salud.

b. Los estudiantes se referirán a los ensayos escritos antes del taller para

contribuir información valiosa a dicha discusión.

c. El facilitador utilizará el Apéndice C: Rúbrica de participación para evaluar

esta actividad.

7. El facilitador dividirá la clase en pequeños grupos y le asignará a cada grupo uno o

más de los términos investigados antes del taller.

a. Cada grupo diseñará un organizador gráfico, dibujo, ilustración u otro visual

que explique la definición del/de los término(s) asignado(s), su importancia y

su relevancia a este curso.

b. Los estudiantes se referirán a las oraciones escritas antes del taller para

contribuir información a esta actividad colaborativa.

c. Cada miembro del grupo participará en las explicaciones, asegurándose de usar

buenas destrezas de gramática y pronunciación.



d. El facilitador utilizará el Apéndice A: Rúbrica de redacción oral para evaluar

esta actividad.

8. El facilitador se referirá al foro de discusión oral sobre la historia de la evaluación y

sus orígenes de acuerdo con lo establecido por Peter Rossi y al foro de discusión

escrita, realizados antes del taller. Los alumnos tendrán la oportunidad de abundar

sobre los temas discutidos, aclarar dudas y justificar la importancia de evaluación de

programas en el desarrollo de programas dirigidos a mejorar la salud de la población.

9. El facilitador explicará el proyecto final sobre el desarrollo de un bosquejo de un plan

de evaluación de un programa hipotético de servicios de salud, determinado por el

facilitador.

a. El facilitador explicará las directrices y estipulaciones que deberán seguir para

la realización eficaz y exitosa de este proyecto.

b. Los estudiantes elaborarán dicho bosquejo a través del curso.

c. En el Taller Cinco los alumnos entregarán el trabajo escrito en español y

presentarán el mismo oralmente en inglés.

d. Deberán aclarar dudas con el facilitador respecto a este proyecto a través del

curso para asegurar la realización de un trabajo eficaz y eficiente.

10. Finalmente, el facilitador mencionará y aclarará las tareas que realizarán antes del

próximo taller.

WORKSHOP TWO

A. Content Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, the student will be able to

1. Justify the importance of evaluation and its role in the improvement of health services

programs.

2. Examine information related to the evaluation of a program (health and social interest).

3. Demonstrate knowledge about the logic model and its application in the evaluation of

health services.

4. Apply a logic model for a program based on a hypothetical situation.

B. Language Objectives

The student will be able to

1. Pay close attention to the terms discussed in the workshop related to the evaluation of

health services of a program in order to apply accordingly.

2. Orally describe the design of a logic model for a health service program using the

technical vocabulary of the discipline correctly.

3. Examine in depth information regarding the importance of health service evaluation

using the assigned workshop material.

4. Justify in writing the importance of applying a logic model in the design and

evaluation of health programs using strong support and rich details suitable to the

audience and purpose.



C. Activities Prior to the Workshop

1. Using the Virtual Library, Internet, and other reliable academic sources, research

information on the importance of evaluation and its role in the improvement of health

services programs; the evaluation of a program (health and social interest); and different

models such as logic models and healthcare models, including their application in the

evaluation of health services. Prepare a summary on each topic and bring it to the

workshop to assist you during collaborative learning activities.

2. Go to the oral discussion forum created by the facilitator in Blackboard and discuss the

components of a logic model. React to the comments of at least three colleagues with

meaningful feedback. The facilitator will evaluate this activity using the Oral

Communication Skills Rubric (Appendix A) and/or the Participation Rubric (Appendix

C).

3. Read each of the terms listed below and create a chart explaining in your own words each

definition:

a. system design

b. logic model

c. program evaluation

d. performance evaluation

e. program design

f. program structure

g. taxes

h. resource conservation

i. green energy

j. workers

4. Write a two-page essay about the importance of applying a logic model in the design and

evaluation of health services.

a. Be sure to use APA style, include bibliographic citations and references.

b. Submit your essay to NetTutor, specifically the Paper Center, and request to

receive feedback in the areas of organization and paper format (APA).



c. Incorporate feedback into written work and upload your revised essay to the

written discussion forum created by the facilitator in Blackboard.

d. React to the essay of at least two colleagues by providing meaningful feedback.

e. The facilitator will send all written works to SafeAssignTM to check for plagiarism.

In addition, the facilitator will evaluate this activity using the Written

Communication Skills Rubric (Appendix B) and the Participation Rubric

(Appendix C).

5. Prepare a spider map (type of graphic organizer) on different program evaluation

methods. Bring your map to the workshop for a collaborative learning activity.

6. Go to the written discussion forum created by the facilitator in Blackboard and discuss

how you would evaluate a health program. React to the postings of at least three

colleagues by noting points of agreement or disagreement and providing meaningful

feedback. The facilitator will evaluate this activity using the Written Communication

Skills Rubric (Appendix B) and the Participation Rubric (Appendix C).

7. Using the Virtual Library or any other reliable academic source of information, find a

scientific article that discusses an evaluation of a healthcare program or a program of

social interest. Prepare a one-page summary with the most important information related

to the purpose, methodology, and results. Bring your summary and article to the

workshop.

8. Brainstorm a list of reasons that justify the importance of a program evaluation. Bring

your list to the workshop for a collaborative learning activity.

9. Continue working on the final project outline (written component in Spanish and oral

presentation in English) due in Workshop Five.



10. Continue working on the organization and completion of the digital portfolio following

the guidelines stipulated in the Digital Performance Portfolio Assessment Handbook.

11. Go to Rosetta Stone Advantage and continue working on the interactive exercises

designed to develop/improve linguistic skills in English.

D. Activities during the Workshop

1. As a whole class activity, students will take turns contributing concepts discussed in

previous workshops to create a clustering map on the chart paper provided by the

facilitator or on the board. Students will have the opportunity to clarify doubts on the

concepts reviewed with their peers as well as with the facilitator.

2. The facilitator will divide the class in small groups for a vocabulary word activity known

as Interview a Word. The facilitator will assign each group a series of interview

questions and one of the words listed below:

a. system design

b. logic model

c. program evaluation

d. performance evaluation

e. program design

f. program structure

g. taxes

h. resource conservation

i. green energy

j. workers



Students will become the “word” and write answers to the interview questions based on

the word’s definition. Afterwards, one of the group members will play the role of the

interviewer while the remaining members of each group will stand in front of the class.

Without revealing the assigned word, the interviewer will ask his/her group members the

interview questions. The remaining members will share their written answers. After the

interview, the class will attempt to guess the word. A brief class discussion will follow

during which the facilitator will clarify doubts, as needed.

3. Working in partners, students will engage in a pair-and-compare activity regarding the

importance of evaluation and its role in the improvement of health services programs.

a. Students will use their lists to compare reasons and add/correct information on

the topic.

b. Afterwards, students will reach a consensus and select three reasons that justify

the importance of program evaluation and explain to the rest of the class their

conclusions regarding its role in the improvement of health services programs.

c. The facilitator will evaluate this activity using the Oral Communication Skills

Rubric (Appendix A).

4. In small groups, students will share their spider maps prepared as an activity prior to the

workshop on different program evaluation methods. A feedback session will follow

during which students will identify similarities and differences among the contents of

their graphic organizers. The facilitator will evaluate this activity using the Oral

Communication Skills Rubric (Appendix A).

5. In a round table format, students will discuss the components of a logic model and its

application in the evaluation of health services. Students will clarify doubts and ask



questions as needed. The facilitator will evaluate this activity using the Oral

Communication Skills Rubric (Appendix A).

6. In pairs, students will discuss their article summaries on the evaluation of a healthcare

program or a program of social interest. Students will exchange comments on points of

agreement and/or disagreement, varying opinions, new insight, and helpful feedback.

The facilitator will use the Participation Rubric (Appendix C) to evaluate this activity.

7. In small groups, students will apply a logic model to evaluate a health service program

provided by the facilitator. Students will orally present their conclusions based on the

evaluation conducted to the rest of the class. A question and answer session will follow.

The facilitator will evaluate this activity using the Oral Communication Skills Rubric

(Appendix A).

8. Students will compose a self-reflection on the benefits of logic models and on one (or

more) of the questions found in Appendix F: Self-Reflection Guidelines, which either

they or the facilitator selects.

9. Students will continue filling out the last three columns of the KWHLAQ Chart found in

Appendix G on the topic determined by the facilitator in Workshop One. This activity

will be discussed during the last workshop.

10. The facilitator will discuss and clarify any doubts regarding the activities due prior to the

next workshop, including any details regarding the final project outline of an evaluation

plan for a hypothetical program of health services due upon Workshop Five.

b. Los estudiantes harán un círculo alrededor del rompecabezas para relacionar las

palabras con la definición o viceversa.

c. Complementarán la explicación de los términos, compartiendo las oraciones

escritas antes del taller.

d. Después de completar el rompecabezas, los alumnos compartirán y explicarán

los dos términos nuevos que consideran relevantes para los temas del taller.

2. El facilitador llevará a cabo una discusión sobre el desarrollo de evaluaciones basadas

E. Activities during the Workshop

1. The facilitator will provide students with a word/phrase related to the concepts to be

discussed during the workshop. Based on the word/phrase, students will engage in a

“chalk talk” activity. This activity requires students to coordinate with his/her colleagues

as they walk up to the board to write anything related to the indicated topic. A class

discussion will follow regarding the ideas that emerge from the activity. The facilitator

will indicate the duration of this activity.

2. In pairs, students will be assigned one of the following vocabulary words to discuss and

explain its definition to the rest of the class:

a. process evaluation

b. product evaluation or results

c. evaluation of needs

d. evaluation tool

e. information analysis

3. In a roundtable format, students will discuss different types of evaluations and their use

in the continuous development of the health services rendered. The facilitator will



evaluate students’ performance using the Oral Communication Skills Rubric (Appendix

A) and the Participation Rubric (Appendix C).

4. In random order, students will orally present their audiovisual presentations on different

effective strategies used to evaluate health services and the elements of an evaluation

tool used to assess a health service program. A question and answer session will follow

after each presentation. The facilitator will evaluate this activity using the Oral

Communication Skills Rubric (Appendix A) and the Written Communication Skills

Rubric (Appendix C).

5. In small groups, students will create a health services evaluation instrument following

the instructions indicated by the facilitator. Each group will orally present their

evaluation instrument. A feedback session will follow during which students will have

the opportunity to provide effective feedback and suggestions on how to improve the

instrument. The facilitator will evaluate this activity using the Oral Communication

Skills Rubric (Appendix A) and the Participation Rubric (Appendix C).

6. The facilitator will lead students in a whole class discussion on the importance of

program evaluation for a healthcare manager. Students will answer thought-provoking

questions presented by the facilitator and clarify doubts throughout the discussion, as

needed. The facilitator will evaluate this activity using the Participation Rubric

(Appendix C).

7. Students will compose a self-reflection on one or more of the questions found in

Appendix F: Self-Reflection Guidelines, which either they or the facilitator selects.

a. Complete el proyecto final sobre el desarrollo de un bosquejo de un plan de

b. Utilice la Biblioteca Virtual, el Internet y otros recursos académicos del E-Lab,

como libros electrónicos, para investigar sobre equipos interpersonales,

intrapersonales e interprofesionales.

i. Diseñe un organizador gráfico de su elección para cada tipo de equipo,

detallando su función y propósito y otros datos relevantes.

ii. Prepárese para una actividad colaborativa en clase.

c. El facilitador creará un foro de discusión oral en la herramienta Voice Board de

Blackboard. En dicho foro, discuta las diferencias entre gerencia y liderazgo, y

reaccione a los comentarios de al menos tres colegas, indicando ideas nuevas

a. Using the Virtual Library, Internet, and other reliable sources, look for information

on the importance of evaluation as a tool used for accountability and improvement

for a health services manager; and the role and functions of accreditation agencies

in the management and evaluation of health services programs. Take notes on the

most important information found on each topic and bring your notes to the

workshop.

b. Go to the Blog created by the facilitator in Blackboard and create an entry

explaining the importance of evaluation as a tool used for accountability and

improvement for a health services manager. Be sure to include information on the

variables that may affect the evaluation process and how evaluation can be used to

maximize the competiveness of the company he/she works for. React to the



postings of at least two colleagues. This activity will be evaluated using the Written

Communication Skills Rubric (Appendix B) and the Participation Rubric

(Appendix C).

c. Go to the course Wiki created by facilitator in Blackboard. Contribute information

to the Wiki regarding the role and functions of accreditation agencies in the

management and evaluation of health services programs. You can create pages

and/or edit information regarding the topic. In addition to the ideas you share in the

course Wiki, comment on at least three entries of your colleagues. This activity will

be evaluated using the Written Communication Skills Rubric (Appendix B) and/or

the Participation Rubric (Appendix C).

d. Prepare for the second partial exam, which will be administered in English, during

the last two hours of the workshop.

e. Finalize the details of your audiovisual presentation of your final project to be

orally presented during Workshop Five.

f. Finalize the digital portfolio ensuring that you have accurately complied with all

the guidelines stipulated in the Digital Performance Portfolio Assessment

Handbook. Submit the portfolio according to the facilitator’s instructions.

g. Go to Rosetta Stone Advantage and complete all the corresponding activities

designed to develop/improve linguistic skills in English.

a. Gathered in small groups, students will answer the questions on the role and

functions of accreditation agencies in the management and evaluation of health

services programs, provided by the facilitator.

i. Students will reach a consensus on the correct answer to each question and

present their conclusions to the rest of the class using the chart paper

provided by the facilitator.

ii. The facilitator will evaluate this activity using the Oral Communication

Skills Rubric (Appendix A), the Written Communication Skills Rubric

(Appendix B), and the Participation Rubric (Appendix C).

b. In the form of a continuation of the Blog assignment topic discussed prior to the

workshop, students will justify the importance of evaluation as a tool used for

accountability and improvement for a health services manager. Students will

discuss how evaluation can be used to maximize the competiveness of the

company a health services manager works for. The facilitator will evaluate this

activity using the Participation Rubric (Appendix C).

c. In random order, students will present their audiovisual presentations of their

outlines regarding the evaluation plan for a hypothetical health services program,

specified by the facilitator, while demonstrating appropriate use of voice volume

and rhythm.

i. After each presentation takes place, students will exchange meaningful and

constructive feedback.

ii. The facilitator will evaluate this activity using the Oral Communication

Skills Rubric (Appendix A) and the participation Rubric (Appendix C).



d. The facilitator will administer the second partial exam during the time deemed

most appropriate during the last two hours of the workshop.

e. Students will write a one-page summary using correct Standard English

explaining how the language/E-Lab activities contributed to the acquisition,

improvement, and/or enhancement of their English and Spanish linguistic skills.

Students will submit this summary via Blackboard’s email to the facilitator.

f. Students will finish completing the last columns of their KWHLAQ Chart

(Appendix G) on the topic determined by the facilitator in Workshop One and will

present and discuss them in class.

g. Students will write a self-reflection on one or more of the questions found in

Appendix F: Self-reflection Guidelines which either they or the facilitator selects.

This activity will be evaluated using the Written Communication Skills Rubric

(Appendix B).

h. Students will complete the final course evaluation.
