THE DEFINITION

•DEFINITION: a verb that comes before the main verb in a sentence. Together, the helping verb and the main verb form a verb phrase. Sometimes a word-such as not- seperates the helping verb from the main verb. helps main verb express tense, mood, and voice.

USED IN A SENTENCE? IDENTIFICATION?•Helping verbs are often used right before

the action verb. If not, they are usually seperated by a word such as not.

•Helping verbs can be identified very simply. They must be one of the 23 words listed earlier.
