A Message From Your Seminar

leader, Kay lawDear Colleague:

With Common Core State Standards now being implemented in most states, many of us in the classroom are asking how can we provide a quality reading program that encourages rigor and challenge when students seem to struggle with the new elevated standards of text complexity. How can we provide ALL students with the reading skills they need when there are so many gaps in students’ reading abilities?

As a classroom teacher, I face these same challenges on a daily basis. In my search to align my classroom reading program with Common Core State Standards’ expectation of increased text complexity, I found few resources that provided practical insights on what really needs to happen at the classroom level. Consequently, I have designed this seminar to provide other educators working with students in grades 3‑5 practical solutions to these challenges. My goal in this seminar is to share with you a wealth of the most effective strategies I have found to help all students successfully read more challenging text. It’s been my experience as a classroom teacher, whether reading literature or informational texts, that by increasing the text complexity and responsibly applying those skills in all subjects, students can tackle a multitude of academic challenges. I believe we can help our students develop their reading skills and provide an environment of more challenging text that will not only make them college/career ready but will assist them throughout their lives.

Sincerely,

Kay Law

P.S. As a classroom teacher, I know how precious your time is. My focus in this seminar is on highly practical strategies that I know work in real classrooms.

My goal in this seminar is to share with you a wealth of the most effective strategies I have found to help all students successfully read more challenging text.”
