Say each sound e.g. c-a-t, sh-o-p and then blend them together. Run your finger under

each sound to encourage your child to blend them together.

Remember to use letter sounds rather than ‘alphabet names’.

It is better to tell your child some unknown words to maintain the flow rather than trying

to build them all up from the sounds of the letters.

Read everything out loud Books, poems, nursery rhymes, newspaper & magazine articles, food labels…

If a child attends school (100%), they will be able to make the best of opportunities available to them. Progress and attainment will improve.

Children who have fantastic attendance are more likely to achieve.

Our target for school attendance is 96%

A pupil who ends the year on 90% attendance will have missed 4 complete

weeks at school.

FANTASTIC ATTENDANCE

At New Ash Green Primary School, we like to acknowledge children who do well and follow the school rules.

We use incentives to encourage pupils to have fantastic attendance and being on time.

Incentives include:

Don’t be Late Dog— the class that has the best punctuality wins a cake to eat at playtime or at home time.

Lucky Dip Photo winner—everyone who is not late in the week is entered into the draw to win a pencil.

Termly attendance certificate for everyone who has 100% attendance.

Attendance certificate for everyone who achieves 100% attendance all year and a £10 Bluewater voucher. Please make dental and

medical appointments

outside school hours

91.1% = 17 days of school in one year

If your child’s education is below expectation for their entire school career they will have

missed over one year of education.

Attendance will be monitored and you may be asked to provide evidence in order to authorise absences.

Pupils with poor attendance are less likely to achieve.

Pupils may be referred to the Attendance Service or school may request a Penalty Notice to be issued.

Poor attendance will have a serious impact on education, work ethic and life chances.

ATTENDANCE

It is well known that fantastic school attendance affects a child’s success in learning and helps to fulfil their potential and give a chance of a better future.

Every day your child is absent from school is an opportunity missed. School and parents have a shared responsibility to ensure that your child attends school regularly.

PUNCTUALITY

New Ash Green Primary School starts at 8.50am every morning. It is essential that your child is in the classroom by 8.50am. The classrooms are open from 8.45am. Parents of children who are persistently late could face legal action.

ABSENCES FROM SCHOOL

If your child is absent from school you need to:

Contact the school on 01474 873858 before 9am.

Please give the reason for absence.

Please give the day you expect your child will return to school.

Phoning school to say your child is absent does not authorise the absence. As a school we need the specific reason for the absence so we can decide if it is an authorised or unauthorised absence

HOLIDAYS

A one week holiday taken during term time is over 50 lessons missed.

Since 2013, the Department for Education changed the legislation relating to holidays during term time. The new legislation does NOT give any entitlement to parents to take their child on holiday during term time. All schools in the country are unable to authorise any holidays taken in term time unless they are under exceptional circumstances.

Please see the link below for more information

www.gov.uk/school-attendance-absence

Please remember that 10 or more unauthorised absences over a school year (including holidays) will mean that parents can be fined by the Local Authority.

PLAY 4 AGES After school childcare at

New Ash Green Primary School

Play 4 Ages is delighted to offer the children of New Ash Green Primary School a fun

and exciting out of school club. Established since 2007, Play 4 Ages offers out of school

childcare to the Kent community and is an Ofsted registered organisation which follows

the methodology of Playwork practice.

Play 4 Ages after school club is open Monday to Friday (term time only) until 6pm at a

cost of £13.00 per child per session. Holiday Playschemes are also offered during most

school holidays, from 8am to 6pm. Half day sessions are also available.

After school sessions can be booked in advance and secured until cancellation or booked

on an ad hoc basis.

Qualified DBS checked Playworkers are on hand to deliver a full program of activities

for children of all ages. Play opportunities such as art and craft, physical games,

construction and cookery will be on offer, along with many other activities which the

children have the freedom to choose.

Play 4 Ages strives to offer children the opportunity to personally direct their choice

of play which meets their own needs. Our Playworkers ensure that the environment is

conducive for play. By supporting the play process, we are able to give the children the

control and freedom to make choices about their play.

A snack tea is served to the children whilst at the club. We encourage the children to

serve themselves and ensure that choices are available to them. Fresh fruit and drinks

are also available throughout the session.

To register your interest in Play4Ages, please contact us via the email

address below. We accept payment via bank transfer, cash, childcare

vouchers and the government tax free scheme. Check out
