In this workshop, participants will learn about successful examples of integration of the Help Me Grow model into the home visiting system and develop strategies for their own state and affiliate.
South Carolina and West Virginia will share their state’s story of Help Me Grow and home visiting integration including the impetus for the partnership, the funding mechanisms and activities past and present to further the integration. They will share data as well how HMG and home visiting has partnered with data to strengthen technical assistance and decision-making for the home visiting workforce.
The session will be interactive with several methods. Participants will assess their own knowledge and current practices between HMG and home visiting and create strategies toward either initiating or strengthening these partnerships with an implementation tool that will be provided. They will participate in an interactive demonstration of training exercises used with home visitors through HMG trainers. Real time electronic participant surveys will be used.
At the end of the session, participants will have two examples of successful integration of HMG and home visitation; a self-assessment of where their state is in terms of this type of partnership; and one to two strategies to implement in their state.
Objectives
Attendees will understand how two states’ home visiting systems engage
with the Help Me Grow model.
Attendees will apply knowledge from session to develop an
implementation plan to engage home visiting stakeholders.

In the beginning…
2009-2011
Children’s Trust of South Carolina is awarded the MIECHV grant for South
Carolina in 2010
Children’s Trust’s executive director is a member of the Help Me Grow
South Carolina leadership planning team
Children’s Trust’s executive director attends the 3rd annual Help Me Grow
National Forum
Note: HMG SC became an affiliate in 2008; began actively serving
families in September 2012
June 2013
Children’s Trust contacts HMG SC Program Manager and invites HMG SC
to be part of their application to HRSA for MIECHV three-year expansion
funding
Based on the MIECHV Home Visiting needs assessment, Charleston,
Dorchester & Berkeley are identified as the expansion counties
Children’s Trust recognized the work going on in WV and DE which had
blended HMG into their MIECHV work
September 2013
Children’s Trust awarded $14.4 million over 3 years to expand # of sites,
# of home visitors, and # counties served
HMG was awarded funding over 3 years to expand its services to Berkeley,
Charleston, and Dorchester counties
Initial three year award to HMG SC was $865,716
Supported expansion of HMG SC from two counties to five counties; hiring
of additional staff in 2014 and 2015
October 2016 to September 2019
Children’s Trust continues to support HMG SC with an annual contract
Over the years, we developed a strong partnership and worked to
achieve system integration
presenters at the HV Summit and other HV trainings
lead partner in statewide MQIC2 project focused on developmental screening
member of the SC HV Consortium
