More on the Board of Trade’s Vision for the RegionLike most urban areas around the world, the Greater Washington region is growing. The Metropolitan Washington Council of Govern-ments estimates that we will gain more than 1.5 million people and 1.1 million jobs in the next 30 years. How do we ensure that this growth is sustainable and leads to a better quality of life for all citizens?
Innovative smart city concepts can help. A smart city is loosely defined as an urban eco-system that harnesses data and technology to improve citizens’ lives. Cities around the world have turned to smart city solutions to reduce crime, increase efficiency of government ser-vices, conserve resources, and more.
The Board of Trade has launched a smart region movement because we believe that these advancements are key to inclusive eco-nomic growth and livability in the 21st century.
This will benefit the Board of Trade’s member companies by creating a more fruitful busi-ness environment—but it will also benefit our employees, families, and communities. As the region’s oldest business voice, the Board of Trade is committed to making Greater Wash-ington a world-class economic center where everyone can thrive, for generations to come.
