Information SessionsAttending an information session is the first step in your enrollment in a career program. During the session you will learn more about the training program, any required prerequisites, available financial aid options, and the admission process. You will also meet the program staff.

Earn College CreditOhio’s Transfer to Degree Guarantee helps career and technical students transfer credits to community college or four-year degree programs. The One-Year Option credit articulation system allows graduates who complete a 900+ hour program of study and who obtain an industry recognized credential to receive 30 college technical credit hours toward a technical degree upon enrollment in an institution of higher education.

Adult education students who wish to transfer to an institution of higher learning may be eligible for college credit for specific coursework as decided by the receiving institution. Federal AidFederal financial aid can be applied to career training programs with more than 600 hours. Options include:

Pell Grants Need-based grants that do not have to be repaid. Apply online at fafsa.ed.gov. Butler Tech school code: 015492.

Direct Loans Subsidized and unsubsidized loans are available for eligible students. Repayment usually begins six months after you leave school.

PLUS Loans PLUS Loans are for parents of dependent students only. They are not need-based. Repayment begins while the student is still in school. The maximum loan amount may not exceed the total cost of attendance less any other aid to be received.

Medical AssistingRegistered medical assistants often serve in both administrative and clinical roles. Duties may include recording medical histories and vital signs, providing basic medical care, performing lab tests, and assisting physicians during medical exams.

Medical Billing & CodingA medical coder takes information from a patient’s medical record and assigns medical codes to identify procedures, diagnoses and any medical equipment. A billing professional will use those codes to accurately submit claim forms to insurance companies, appeal denials, and post charges, payments, and adjustments to patient accounts. Certified Billing & Coding Specialists will find jobs in physicians’ offices, hospitals, clinics, and insurance companies.

PhlebotomyPhlebotomy is a specialized area of clinical laboratory practice. Butler Tech’s practical nursing program combines classroom learning and hands-on clinical experience to prepare you for rewarding and challenging opportunities in nursing. Employment opportunities exist with extended care facilities, home health agencies, physicians’ offices, schools, outpatient clinics, and hospice providers. Graduates who pass the National Council for Licensure exam will be credentialed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Train-The-Trainer Program (TTT)The Train-The-Trainer Program (TTT) will prepare qualified nurses, RN’s and LPN’s to teach and coordinate Nurse Aide Training in Ohio. The program is approved through the Ohio Department of Health and it meets all standards defined by the Ohio Administrative Code. Books and supplies are provided.

• Discuss long-term care topics specific to the Train-the-Trainer (TTT) and Nursing Assistant programs

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R)Learn about commercial and residential heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. The curriculum includes complete systems repair, installation, schematic reading, electrical theory, refrigerant handling, systems diagnostics, and wiring and controls. This curriculum includes training in the skills needed to perform technical service on both residential and commercial refrigeration units, ice machines, and reach-in and walk-in coolers, which are used by many different types of industries.

Industrial Maintenance TechnologyThe skills you learn in this program provide a technical foundation for working as an industrial maintenance technician, or mechanical maintenance technician. The curriculum includes AC/DC solid state drives, industrial electricity, motor control wiring and troubleshooting, programmable logic controllers, fluid power, mechanical maintenance, process control systems, and single and three-phase motor systems.

Industrial WeldingWelding is strong, versatile and portable. It is used to build and repair bridges, skyscrapers, ships, automobiles, spacecraft, medical equipment and thousands of other manufactured products that make modern society possible. This program gives you a solid foundation in theory and practice for a career where welding plays an important part. Courses include flux core arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), oxy-fuel cutting (OFC), plasma arc cutting (PAC), air carbon arc cutting (ACAC), and shop safety.

Industrial Welding Technology-IntroductionIntroduction to the three basic welding processes: Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW), Metal Inert Gas (MIG) and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG). This class is intended for those wanting to develop basic welding skills and a fundamental understanding of welding processes and procedures. Personal protective equipment will be provided and includes welding hood, welding jacket, welding gloves and safety glasses.

Basic Law Enforcement

Basic Police AcademyButler Tech’s Basic Police Academy has been successfully training police cadets for more than 20 years. Our scenario-based curriculum prepares graduates to be “street ready” for a career in law enforcement. The program is approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission. Students have access to an on-site fitness center, training simulators, driving pad and a 20 lane firing range. Students must be 20½ years old at the start of the Academy.

This course is also a prerequisite for the Paramedic Academy.

Firefighter Level ll Transition This course is the second level of standards-based certification available to firefighters in Ohio. An Ohio Firefighter I certification is required for admission to the course. The Firefighter II transition Course, combined with the Ohio Firefighter I course meets “Firefighter II Course Objectives”. GED® and other High School Equivalency Exam PreparationButler Tech General High School Equivalency (HSE/GED) preparation courses help you get ready for all four areas (English, mathematics, social studies and science) of the GED and other high school equivalency exams.

We will first check your skill level. Then, we will develop a customized learning plan for you. Classes are in six-week sessions, but you can take the free classes as long as you need to help prepare for the exams.
