Earn College CreditOhio’s Transfer to Degree Guarantee helps career and technical students transfer credits to community college or four-year degree programs. The One-Year Option credit articulation system allows graduates who complete a 900+ hour program of study and who obtain an industry recognized credential to receive 30 college technical credit hours toward a technical degree upon enrollment in an institution of higher education.

Adult education students who wish to transfer to an institution of higher learning may be eligible for college credit for specific coursework as decided by the receiving institution. Medical Billing & CodingA medical coder takes information from a patient’s medical record and assigns medical codes to identify procedures, diagnoses and any medical equipment. A billing professional will use those codes to accurately submit claim forms to insurance companies, appeal denials, and post charges, payments, and adjustments to patient accounts. Certified Billing & Coding Specialists will find jobs in physicians’ offices, hospitals, clinics, and insurance companies.

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R)Learn about commercial and residential heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. The curriculum includes complete systems repair, installation, schematic reading, electrical theory, refrigerant handling, systems diagnostics, and wiring and controls. This curriculum includes training in the skills needed to perform technical service on both residential and commercial refrigeration units, ice machines, and reach-in and walk-in coolers, which are used by many different types of industries.

Industrial Maintenance TechnologyThe skills you learn in this program provide a technical foundation for working as an industrial maintenance technician, or mechanical maintenance technician. The curriculum includes AC/DC solid state drives, industrial electricity, motor control wiring and troubleshooting, programmable logic controllers, fluid power, mechanical maintenance, process control systems, and single and three-phase motor systems.

Industrial WeldingWelding is strong, versatile and portable. It is used to build and repair bridges, skyscrapers, ships, automobiles, spacecraft, medical equipment and thousands of other manufactured products that make modern society possible. This program gives you a solid foundation in theory and practice for a career where welding plays an important part. Courses include flux core arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), oxy-fuel cutting (OFC), plasma arc cutting (PAC), air carbon arc cutting (ACAC), and shop safety.

MSSC (CE) Production TechnicianThe Manufacturing Skill Standards Council’s (MSSC) Certified Production Training Program (CPT) is a certification program focused on the core skills and knowledge needed by front-line production workers. Students are trained as Machine Operators, Advanced Production Technicians, Production Associates, Process Improvement Technicians, Inspectors, Lab Technicians, Safety Coordinators and Material Associates.

Machine Trades BasicLearn the introductory concepts of machine trades including the how and why of numerous machining operations, as well machine shop safety, set-ups and process procedures. Learn to use hand tools, precision measuring tools and other equipment.

Machine Trades AdvancedStudents will learn the advanced concepts of machining and be able to further their knowledge in lathe, milling machines, surface grinding and much more. Industrial Welding Technology-IntroductionIntroduction to the three basic welding processes: Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW), Metal Inert Gas (MIG) and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG). Personal protective equipment will be provided and includes welding hood, welding jacket, welding gloves and safety glasses.

Basic Law Enforcement

Basic Police AcademyButler Tech’s Basic Police Academy has been successfully training police cadets for more than 20 years. Our scenario-based curriculum prepares graduates to be “street ready” for a career in law enforcement. The program is approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission. Students have access to an on-site fitness center, training simulators, driving pad and a 20 lane firing range. Students must be 20½ years old at the start of the Academy.

Anatomy and Physiology for Paramedic StudentsThis online course is self-paced and must be completed within six months of registering.


Fire Service

Fire Rescue Academy If you have the passion and interest to make a difference as a firefighter, Butler Tech’s Fire Rescue Academy will prepare you for this rewarding and challenging career. Our program trains students in fire, EMS technical rescue, emergency vehicle operation, and hazardous materials incidents. Students also receive up to 40 hours of training in our propane-fueled fire tower.


Aug. 20, 2018 – Jan. 29, 2019 Mon. – Fri. 8 am. – 5 p.m.

Firefighter I Butler Tech has been training firefighters for over 30 years and we have developed an intensive Firefighter I course of study to give new firefighters the practical and cognitive training needed to operate safely and effectively on the fire ground and prepare the student for a career in the fire service. Students will acquire training in: firefighter safety, physical training, structural firefighting, incident command systems, technical rescue team assistance, vehicle rescue and extrication, emergency vehicle operation, hazardous materials operations and numerous other topics. This training meets the education standards for firefighter l as identified in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards, NFPA 1001 and is the minimum level of training recommended to function as a firefighter in the State of Ohio.


Aug. 20 – Sept 27, 2018 Mon. – Fri. 8 am. – 5 p.m.

Firefighter Level ll Transition This course is the second level of standards-based certification available to firefighters in Ohio. An Ohio Firefighter I certification is required for admission to the course. In this course, students will participate in classroom instruction, incident report writing, flammable liquid live fires, fire ground command, evidence preservation, pre-incident survey, and equipment maintenance. The Firefighter II transition Course, combined with the Ohio Firefighter I course meets “Firefighter II Course Objectives”. Upon successful completion of the course and certification as a Firefighter II, students will be eligible to receive a Pro Board certification, a nationally recognized certification acknowledging the individual has measured against peers and meets rigorous national standards. The Pro Board certification improve uniformity of training and state-to-state portability of qualifications, as well as adding credibility to the individual’s fire organization by having members certified to a national standard.

Advanced Female Officer Training Skills & TacticsThis is an active and hands-on course specifically designed for female officers. Items covered will include: building search techniques, ambush awareness, arrest and control skills, weapon retention, take-down defense, take-downs, ground fighting skills, stand-up fighting skills, off duty survival, environmental weapon defense, use of force topics, exercise for conditioning and strength, and mental strength for critical incidents.

Basic Crash/Crime Scene PhotographyThis is a basic crime scene/auto accident photography class. Students will learn the parts of a camera, how a camera functions, and how lighting is applied to photographs. Techniques taught on how to take evidentiary photos of fingerprints, fibers, vehicle impacts, nighttime photos, painting with a flash, and other techniques.

Field Training Officer(FTO)This course is designed for individuals responsible for training new employees entering the public safety field. The course will focus on the proper evaluation techniques and training methodologies to be used in assessing newly appointed employees and to document their progress. Additionally, the legal issues facing trainers such as: motivation, practical exercises, history and role of the FTO, allowing controlled mistakes, and evaluating written reports will also be covered. The lesson is adapted from the San Jose Model. This class is approved by KLEC.

Gang Awareness Specialist for Police & FireThis course is designed to familiarize the participant with the identification of different street gangs, motorcycle gangs, white supremacist groups, and militias in State and National criminal behavior trends, infiltration, and criminal intelligence methods. A portion of the course will also cover stops and approaches and officer safety.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)These free classes are for adults who speak almost no English, those who would like to learn “survival English” – how to navigate everyday life in the U.S., such as grocery shopping, going to the library, talking to your children’s schoolteachers, and more – and also for those who speak English well, but need to improve their written skills.

This class can help you prepare for a citizenship, driver's or a GED test. The classes are taught in English, so you can practice speaking it with your teacher and fellow students. When you enter the program, we’ll meet with you to assess your need. We’ll then direct you to the class that suits you best.

GED® and other High School Equivalency Exam PreparationButler Tech General High School Equivalency (HSE/GED) preparation courses help you get ready for all four areas (English, mathematics, social studies and science) of the GED and other high school equivalency exams.

We will first check your skill level. Then, we will develop a customized learning plan for you. Classes are in six-week sessions, but you can take the free classes as long as you need to help prepare for the exams.

In addition to teaching the subject matter, we provide practice tests and computer skills training to prepare you for all of the computer-based exams.

if the student cancels 72 hours prior to the beginning of class. Once the student enters the class, tuition refunds are available as follows:

• On or after second class session..............No refund

If an organization reserves a block of seats in a program and is unable to fill those reserved seats by the start date of class, the organization cannot receive a refund for the unfilled seats. No refunds are available for books or materials.
