• Average subscriber age of 51.5
• 53% male and 47% female
• Well-educated (theologically trained)

• Called to be part of the faith community that they serve

• Health Risk Assessment self-reported
data validates behavioral health needs
• Medical claims are going up
• EAP usage is higher than average
• Clergy studies show:
‒ Rate of depression: 11.1% – double the
then national rate of 5.5%
‒ Anxiety rates among clergy were 13.5%
(no comparable U.S. rate was available)
‒ More than 7% of clergy simultaneously
experienced depression and anxiety

A cohort of our membership who had mental disorder
claims in 2018 have a total PMPM cost nearly 2.5X vs
those who did not have a mental disorder claim.

workers experience high levels of

influencing total well-being and more
medical spend.
• The ELCA will benefit from more
solutions to support our members’
emotional well-being.
