What Is HedEx Lite

Using HedEx Lite, you can obtain product documentation with no need of network access.

In addition, this single-user software, which occupies small disk and memory space,

supports automatic library upgrade from http://support.huawei.com.

HedEx Lite, the single-user software edition of HUAWEI Electronic

Documentation Explorer (HedEx), is used to browse, search, print, and manageHuawei product documentation. In addition, HedEx Lite allows you to create

favorites and remarks, provide feedback, and perform automatic library upgrade.



Features

HedEx Lite has the following features:

Runs directly without installation. HedEx Lite occupies disk space of about 5 MB.

Obtains the latest libraries from http://support.huawei.com automatically so that local libraries

are updated in time.

Manages documentation of multiple products and multiple versions in a centralized manner.

Searches documentation quickly and sorts search results by category.

Allows you to create remarks for specific library content.

Allows you to add or delete libraries.

Supports automatic upgrade of HedEx Lite.



Feature Description

Library upgrade Enhanced the function of upgrading libraries, which allows you to obtain the

latest libraries immediately after the upgrade of Huawei products.

Added the function of upgrading a single library.

Deleted the function of upgrading libraries by importing upgrade boot files.

Library management Added the following functions so that all local libraries are uploaded to the latestHedEx Lite:

When you run a documentation CD-ROM (namely, HedEx Lite CD-ROM), the

CD-ROM checks whether HedEx Lite is already installed on your computer. If

yes, only libraries are copied from the CD-ROM to HedEx Lite.

When HedEx Lite starts, it checks whether an earlier version of HedEx is stored

on your computer. If yes, HedEx Lite prompts you to add the existing library

paths to the latest HedEx Lite.

HedEx Lite usability Optimized the display of the favorite or remark creation page, the display of

remarks, and the categorized display of search results.

What's New in HedEx Lite V100R003C02

Currently, the latest version of HedEx Lite is V100R003C02.



Glossary HedEx

The software used to browse, search, and upgrade Huawei product documentation. HedEx is

pronounced as [`hediks] and is short for HUAWEI Electronic Documentation Explorer. HedEx Lite

The lightweight single-user software edition of HedEx. It occupies small disk space and

memory space.

Product documentation

Documents delivered to customers along with Huawei products. Product documentation

includes the solution description, system description, product description, installation manuals,

and reference manuals. Product documentation provides guidance for understanding,

operating, and maintaining Huawei products.

hdx

The specific format of electronic Huawei product documentation, that is, .hdx format.

Library

Product documentation in .hdx format. Libraries can be opened only in HedEx.

Basic library

An independent library, which can be directly uploaded to HedEx.

Extend library

A library used as a supplement to a basic library.

Obtaining HedEx Lite and Libraries From the CD-ROM shipped with a device:

You can obtain the documentation CD-ROM from the accessories shipped with

a device. HedEx Lite and libraries are available in the CD-ROM.

Using other methods:

Contact local Huawei technical support personnel.

Log in to http://support.huawei.com and download HedEx Lite on the

homepage. Then click the link as shown in the following figure for details about

how to obtain libraries at http://support.huawei.com or use the online query

function of HedEx Lite.

Starting HedEx Lite If you have saved HedEx Lite on your computer, go to its save path and double-click the

HedExLite. exe file.

If you are running the documentation CD-ROM, perform any of the following operations:

In the window as shown in the following figure, click Runto start HedEx Lite.

Copy libraries from the CD-ROM to the same local path as HedEx Lite or copy both libraries and

HedEx Lite to your computer.

Copy HedEx Lite to your computer, go to its save path, and then double-click the HedExLite. exe

file.

Viewing and Uploading Libraries

Click the link to learn about how to

upload libraries.

If you have obtained libraries, click Library Managementon the Adminpage and upload

libraries.

If HedEx Lite does not contain the library that you require, you can access

http://support.huawei.com to obtain the library and then upload it to HedEx Lite.

If you have obtained HedEx Lite and libraries, double-click a library. Then HedEx Lite starts

automatically for you to view the library. This library, however, is not uploaded to HedEx Lite.

Therefore, this library is not displayed on the Homepage after you restart HedEx Lite.

If you have an equipment customer account or a Huawei engineer account at http://support.huawei.comand

save HedEx Lite and libraries on your computer, HedEx Lite automatically checks for library upgrade:

If only libraries are upgraded, HedEx Lite prompts customersand Huawei engineersto upgrade locallibraries.

If a Huawei product is upgraded, a Huawei engineerfills in a software application form for pushing the

latest libraries to a specific customerwho uses HedEx Lite. Then HedEx Lite prompts the customerfor

library upgrade, helping obtain the latest libraries in time.

Tip: HedEx Lite supports breakpoint transmission. That is, HedEx Lite upgrade resumes from

the point where the upgrade is previously interrupted.

On the Upgrade Librarytab page, click

Upgrade librariesand refresh the library list to

check whether library upgrade is needed.

HedEx Lite periodically accesses http://support.huawei.com

to check for its later version. If a later version of HedEx Lite

is detected, a message is displayed over the tray icon, as

shown in the right-hand figure.

You can provide feedback if you have any doubts, suggestions, or requirements.

To provide feedback containing multiple remarks at a time, you need to export the remarks to

a file and then send the file to a specified email address ([email protected] default).

Creating Favorites

When viewing a library, you can create a favorite for the page that you

frequently view.

Click Add Favoriteto open

the Favoritespage.

Managing Libraries

Choose whether to display a library on the Homepage.

Create folders to display libraries in a tiered structure if too many libraries are displayed on the

Homepage. This helps you view libraries conveniently.

Automatic HedEx Lite Upgrade

HedEx Lite automatically accesses http://support.huawei.com to check for its later

version every seven days after its first start. If a later version is detected, amessage is displayed prompting you to download and upgrade HedEx Lite.

Alternatively, you can check for a later version of HedEx Lite by using the HedEx

Lite icon on the taskbar.

Note:

To upgrade HedEx Lite, you must have an equipment customer account or a Huawei engineer

account at http://support.huawei.com.

During HedEx Lite upgrade, all data (including libraries, remarks, and favorites) of the earlier

HedEx Lite moves to HedEx Lite of the latest version.

Problem Handling

(1) When customers encounter any problem in the use of HedEx, the customers can

contact Huawei front-line engineers for technical support or call the Huawei Customer

Service Hotline or package the logfolder under the HedEx path and send it to

[email protected].

(2) When customers or Huawei front-line engineers encounter any problem in the use

of HedEx, they can submit the problems in the iCare based on the product.

(3) When the second-line cannot solve a HedEx problem, the problem is submitted to

the third-line, that is, the HedEx coordinator of the corresponding product line forsolution, or you can also contact the coordinator of the Information Tools Department

directly for help.

Note:

HedEx is an attribute of documentation, pay attention to the following points when

submitting problems in the iCare: Select Documentin Root Cause, and enter HedEx information in Work Note.

When the HedEx applies to multiple products, select the product that the submitter is

responsible for.
