HEBRON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

December 24, 2019 Christmas Eve 8:00 P.M. PRELUDE Joel VanderZee and Joan Wright

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Rev. Melissa Harmon

CALL TO WORSHIP ~ Psalm 96 Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth!

Sing to the Lord and bless God’s name; tell the good news of salvation from day to day.

Declare God’s glory among the nations, God’s marvelous works among all the peoples. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised.

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice. Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world, and those who live in it.

Let the whole creation sing for joy at the presence of God, who is coming. God is coming indeed, to judge the earth with righteousness, and the peoples with equity and truth. Praise the Lord!

OPENING HYMN O Come, All Ye Faithful #249

LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE

Our waiting is nearly over. Each week we lit one more candle repre-senting the ever-brightening path that leads us closer to the star under which the Christ Child lay. Micah 5:2 and Isaiah 9:2-7

Why do we light these five candles tonight?

“We lit the first candle of Advent, the Candle of Hope, to remind us of the hope that the people of Israel had for the coming of the Messiah.”

“We lit the second candle of Advent, the candle of Peace, to remind us of the peace that enters our lives when we experience the presence of Jesus Christ.”

“We lit the third candle of Advent, the candle of Joy, to remind us of the joy the angels pro-claimed when Jesus was born.”

“We lit the fourth candle of Advent, the candle of Love, to remind us of the love that God shares with the world through the birth of God’s Son.

“We light the fifth candle, the Christ Candle because Jesus Christ, the true light of the world has come. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life!” John 8:12

Luke 2:1-20
