Lecture and workshop topics centred around school leadership, financial management, identifying and reporting student achievement, strategic planning, etc. I have slipped out of the conference for a short spell to get this newsletter finished for your bedtime reading. I will give a full report on the conference in a later newsletter. News from Africa Hebron Mums Monique Douglas and Cathy Gillies are having a great time at the New Life Foundation orphanage. Hujambo Hebron Community

We so appreciate having the opportunity to share our journey and prayer requests with you. Thank you so much for your support. We had a lovely time catching up with the form five students. They were old enough to be involved with the team last year and remembered both Monique and I. Some asked after our students at Hebron. World of Maths The “World of Maths” descended on our school on Wednesday and all the primary classes were given opportunity to play with and work out real mathematical challenges using hands-on material, objects, mirrors, etc. There was certainly 100% total engagement in all the small groups in the hall, all determined to solve the mathematical challenge before them.

Year 12 Biology Trip The Year 12 Biology students’ enjoyed their zoo trip. Mrs Mathew, their teacher, had arranged with the Zoo Educator to deliver an informative talk on the Native birds especially the Kereru, which is the topic of study for their Internal Assessment. Mrs Mathews said, “Our students displayed the best behaviour and I am very proud of them”. And here are some of the students’ comments on the trip.

Rachel says, “I thought the trip was a good way to research away from the computer screen. We got to witness for ourselves what we were actually studying. I found the zoo trip renewed my enthusiasm for the topic and motivated me to finish the report. The lecture was interesting”. Jordan says, “The zoo trip was great and the talk was very informative and I used some of the information in my research internal assessment”. Equippers Revolution

A team of young people from Equippers Church touring the country blessed us all with song drama and dance at Tuesday’s primary and secondary assemblies. The persuaded students, teachers and even the Principal !!! to come forward and dougie…dancing in an uncontrolled fashion! We all had plenty of laughs. A group from school will be attending their evening show in the Auckland Town hall tonight.

Louche Coetzee gives it a go! Jonathan Schnell revs up the audience

Exams looming

World vision 40hr Famine The World vision 40Hour Famine starts tonight. In the non-Mission year, we encourage children to participate in the World Vision 40 Hour Famine where children in Year 7 and older classes commit to going without food for 40 hours to raise money for overseas aid projects. Children younger than Year 7 are encouraged to go without non-food items such as computer games, talking, TV, etc. This year the money will go to Mali to fund irrigation projects in arid areas. Please be generous and sponsor a child who approaches you with a 40Hr famine booklet and a big smile! It’s all for a good cause! Mastermind Tests Every two years, we run a “Mastermind” competition in the primary school, testing children on their general knowledge then giving those children who excel, the opportunity to go through to the final on Tuesday 19th June where they are once again tested on their general knowledge and a topic of their choice. Mastermind testing will take place this coming Monday next week. A Star of Persia Musical Well, we’ve started rehearsing for our musical, Star of Persia, blocking in the early scenes with the major characters. In the music classes, Mrs Rauch is teaching the children the songs as well. Hopefully, since we have started so early, practising and taking part in the musical will be a fun and enjoyable experience for all who are involved. The musical is planned to be held at Liberty Christian Centre in Avondale on 31st August and 1st September. All the primary children will have the opportunity to be involved, and a few secondary students are involved as well. Students required for next rehearsal, Monday 28th May, 3.30pm-5pm: Sofia Berry, Joshua Scott, Louche Coetzee, Sarah Scott, Jon Sellar, Michael Nuysink.

Secondary students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge on subjects taught in the upcoming secondary exams starting after Queens Birthday Weekend. Parents…please encourage your secondary child(ren) to be studying for these exams now…not the night before! Have an enjoyable weekend.
