Hebrews 3:1-6One Like Moses but Greater

Hebrews 3

Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, 2 who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God's house.

3 For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses

—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.

Reflected God’s Glory

Exodus 33:7

7 Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting, which was outside the camp. 8 Whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people would rise up, and each would stand at his tent door, and watch Moses until he had gone into the tent. 9 When Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and the Lord would speak with Moses. 10 And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would rise up and worship, each at his tent door. 11 Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.

Jesus Like Moses But Better

▪ Freed the People of God from Earthly Slavery by the Blood of the Passover Lamb

▪ Did wonderous signs of God with his staff

▪ Passed through the Red Sea

▪ Led the people for 40 years in the wilderness, due to the unfaithfulness of the people

▪ Gave the law

▪ Freed the People of God from Slavery to Sin and Death through his own blood the blood of the lamb of God

▪ Did miracles that only God could do and needed no staff

▪ Through the waters of baptism Jesus leads us to new life

▪ Battled Satan for 40 days in the wilderness and was faithful

▪ Gave the law of God over hearts and not just actions, and fulfilled all of the law

Application

▪ Do you need a Deliverer?

▪ Do you need a Leader?

▪ Do you need a Savior?

▪ Do you seek one who never fails or quits?

Application

▪ If we esteemed and related to Jesus the same way that the 1st century Jews related to Moses then we would not only need to follow in his footsteps, we would want to as our main drive

▪ Jesus is far greater than Moses – so we must relate to Jesus the way that the people of Israel related to Moses in the wilderness X 10

▪ Depend on Jesus for Life, Path, and Daily Bread

▪ Stand in your doorway and praise the Lord for the one who intercedes on your behalf
