Music Festival 21 March 2015 Thank you to parents who are volunteering to help out on the day of the music festival. I have sent an email to parents and hope that we can gather a few more helpers. Many hands make light work so your support will mean that all of the helpers also get to enjoy the festival. Remember this is a family day, so bring along a picnic and enjoy the great entertainment on offer. I would like to thank Mr Croft, the sensational Music Festival Committee, the P&C and all of the staff for their willingness to support this event. Once again, I would like to congratulate all of the students for their wonderful start to the year. It has been a pleasure seeing all students in their school uniform, displaying their wonderful manners and treating each other with respect and kindness. Have a wonderful weekend! Thank you Paul Biemmi PRINCIPAL

STUDENT ATTENDANCE

Whilst we accept and understand that children will be ill from time to time therefore preventing them from attending school, it is important for parents to look at the patterns of school attendance data which causes concern. A continuing significant issue is the increase in student absences after a weekend. Monday records the most absences from students on any given day of the week. The past long weekend holiday saw 18 student absences on the Tuesday taking the total number of student absences after a weekend to 78 this year. The average for the total number of absences since the start of the school year for the remaining compulsory school days is 51. This statistic is concerning. I will be making a concerted effort to improve this data and will be making contact with parents of students who have a pattern of Monday absences. I encourage parents who may be having difficulties with getting their child to school after a weekend to seek support and advice from me to improve the situation. Whilst our school percentage for regular student attendance has been consistently better than state averages, which the school community can be applauded for, we must continually look to improve our data to ensure students have the best opportunity for school and life success. It is well known and research supported that the key to academic and life success is regular school attendance. A 90% and above attendance is what all parents should aim for to ensure their child maximises learning opportunities. Regular attendance is a ‘Purposeful Student’ If you have any queries or require support regarding your child’s attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Glen Bewick
