HEAT FLOW AND THERMAL MODELLING NGU has established a modern heat flow database of Norway, including: more than 20 deep boreholes on mainland Norway high-resolution temperature logging systematic sampling of core material and in-house determination of thermal properties of the rocks (thermal conductivity and heat generation). The database and the experience gained by the re- searchers involved in its acquisition and treatment are used as backbones for advanced 2D/3D numerical modelling of the thermal state of the crust/lithosphere of both the continental shelf and mainland Norway. Our integrated approach has a broad variety of appli- cations ranging from the use of geothermal energy to estimation of maturation conditions of hydrocarbons present in the subsurface or characterisation of the quality of the natural reservoirs hosting them. In addi- tion to these economic and societal aspects, our geo- thermal research has a strong academic potential on fundamental issues related to Earth dynamics including paleoclimate. HEAT FLOW AND THERMAL MODELLING

NGU has established a modern heat flow database of Norway, including:

• more than 20 deep boreholes on mainland Norway

• high-resolution temperature logging

• systematic sampling of core material and in-house determination of thermal properties of the rocks (thermal conductivity and heat generation).

The database and the experience gained by the re-searchers involved in its acquisition and treatment are used as backbones for advanced 2D/3D numerical

modelling of the thermal state of the crust/lithosphere of both the continental shelf and mainland Norway.

Our integrated approach has a broad variety of appli-cations ranging from the use of geothermal energy to estimation of maturation conditions of hydrocarbons present in the sub surface or characterisation of the quality of the natural reservoirs hosting them. In addi-tion to these economic and societal aspects, our geo-thermal research has a strong academic potential on fundamental issues related to Earth dynamics including paleoclimate.
