Heartfelt Thank You To . . . Norma Butgereit (ukulele) and Sylvia Selden (piano) for the beautiful Prelude

of Amazing Grace in worship on the 13th! Mary VanderMeiden (violin) and Sylvia Selden (piano) for their beautiful

Preludes and Postludes during worship. Lyle Seaman for faithfully stepping in to use her gifts to program the music

each week on the Hymnal Plus. Karen Hemann and Angel Denson for organizing the Read & Feed for

September; and to Judy Carey for preparing crafts. Jason Hettervig and Jane Rictor for taking the lead on preparing the menu

and cooking Saturday’s breakfasts. Jeremy and Maria Chase and their children for sharing with us about their

journey as missionaries in Cambodia. Judy Carey for another beautiful bulletin board reminding us not only of the

changing seasons, but of God’s great love. Charlie Hare for faithfully caretaking the grounds at the church. Mike Carey for spearheading the project to replace the siding on the south

side of the new kitchen area. Sue Adams, Dale Estes, Cookie Baxter and Angel Denson for stepping in to

create an enjoyable and exciting learning time in Children’s Church. Fran and Scott Perkins for helping out with flowers for the Worship Center

while Patty Gewalt is on vacation. Denise McPherson for faithfully capturing so many moments in the life of the

church on film. Dale Estes for spearheading the Operation Christmas Child project. Charlie Hare, Meeja Hudson, Eric Seaman, and Dale Estes for faithfully

counting and depositing offerings each week. Marcia Wilcox, Mike Carey, Denise McPherson, and Eric Seaman for drafting

the proposed budget for 2016. Barbara Hare for stepping in as Clerk of Session and faithfully recording the

happenings of our stated Session meetings and congregational meetings. Jason Hettervig for Monterey Chicken for Read & Feed, and for preparing

such wonderful menus for the dinners. Yum!

From The Pastor’s Pen Susan V. Mills

What a wonderful summer we had at the church! Several wonderful Read & Feed dinners, an exciting Vacation Bible School with some of the coolest science experiments ever (thanks to Professor Voltz and Mr. Clipboard), Saturday breakfasts each an every Saturday; hosting the Presbytery of the Cascades Eco-Justice Team’s Exploration of the South Beaver Creek Kayak Trip, a wonderful wedding, and we topped it off with a grand 90th birthday celebration for Barbara Chase. Now, most churches seem to slow down a bit over the summer but you would never know it at CPCW!

And suddenly, we are back into Fall with all the new programming. On Wednesdays we have a Bible Study to help you strengthen your faith, and on Sundays there is a new study to help those of us who have experienced or are now experiencing a wilderness time. The children have started Children’s Church once again and are meeting in the Fellowship Hall so they have more room to stretch and work on projects. They are learning to be good servants put their learning into action by serving the church family at the Potluck on September 27th, as well as serving the larger community by participating in a mini-packing party of Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. There’s a “Christmas Tag” Zentangle Class coming up October 6th, and a Women’s Advent Retreat scheduled for November 15-17th at Cannon Beach. I also hear there are some fun crafts and great meals being cooked up for Read & Feed for October—December. Lots to look forward to in the life of the church! Hearing good reports of folks making visits to Clara Corwin at Newport Rehab to help keep her spirits up, as well as checking on other folks and sending cards. Thank you for reaching out to our own and the community in some very real and tangible ways.

Would you believe that CPCW has been doing so for almost 115 years? What a legacy we have been blessed to be a part of and to continue on into the future. Perhaps now would be the time to start recruiting folks for the 125th anniversary celebration planning team—it will be here before we know it! Part of that planning is Building for the Future. We were blessed with another grant for $10,000 to help us replace the Sanctuary roof. The roof leaks during rain storms with strong winds and we have found puddles on the grand piano, the old Bible, and even a member or two during services! It’s definitely past the point of putting off much longer. Please pray about how you can help us Build for the Future. The building experienced some years of benign neglect and we are aware that many things need to be attended to so that we can keep ministering to our own and to the larger community for years to come. Not to scare anyone, but after the Sanctuary roof, the flat roof will also need to be addressed; then there are fire safety doors and the vinyl siding that will have to be replaced. All I can ask you to do is to pray about how you might be led to help us “Build for the Future”. I believe God is leading us to continue to reach out to South Lincoln County with the heart, hands, and love of God. May we continue to faithfully answer the call with our whole hearts! SESSION HIGHLIGHTS Barbara Hare, Clerk of Session

October 28 through December 16, 2015, Judy Carey will teach this inspiring Bible Study in the Guild Room from 10:00am-11:30am. The Advent Conspiracy shows us how to substitute consumption with compassion by practicing four simple but powerful, countercultural concepts:

HIGHLIGHTS OF STATED SESSION MEETING August 20, 2015

Communion was served to 34 people on first Sunday, August 2, 2015.

Average worship attendance in August was 53.

There will be a Women’s Advent “Soul Collage” Retreat in Cannon Beach November 15, 16,

17th

. Cost per person will be $100. Pastor Susan will lead the retreat.

MSC to send Presbytery of the Cascades $222.00 from our 2015 budget to help defray costs the Presbytery will incur hosting General Assembly in Portland in June of 2016. Additional monies will be raised in 2016 to help defray the cost of sending Denise McPherson as a

commissioner to General Assembly.

MSC: To accept the proposal to place siding on the courtyard side of the kitchen by Glen

Rager Construction at a cost of $1,300.

MSC: to approve redistribution of monies in the Mission monthly budget as suggested by Stewardship / Finance Committee: Seashore Family Literacy—$25.00; South Lincoln

Resources—$125.00; Saturday Community Breakfast—$50.00

MSC: Modify the budget to include Saturday Morning Breakfast as Mission item #645.

MSC: Purchase an additional blank disc for the Hymnal Plus.

Author, Rob Renfroe, writes that at one time or another, everyone has a wilderness experience, a time when life is barren and difficult and we feel alone and desperate, not knowing where to turn.

Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a financial or health crisis, divorce, or some other painful experience, we see no end in sight and wonder how we can make it through another day.

In the Scriptures we see that often God’s people went through a wilderness experience, and these experiences changed them in profound ways. The truth is that it’s impossible to go through the wilderness without being changed. There’s a way through the wilderness that can leave us broken and bitter and far away from God. But there’s another way through—God’s way—that leaves us with a deeper faith and draws us closer to God than we ever imagined.

With sensitivity and warmth, Rob Renfroe explores the wilderness experience—what it is, how we get there, why God allows it, and how we can get through it God’s way so that we learn the lessons that can be learned only in the desolate seasons of life when we are totally dependent on God.

Sometimes we feel lost when our personal or global world seems out of control. We have so many questions: Can our marriage make it? What happens if a terrorist attack destroys our economy? Will Social Security be there when we need to retire? It’s easy to feel that no one has walked in such perilous or unknown times before — but that’s not true.

Throughout history, God has called people to walk with God one step at a time, even though they had no idea how their circumstances would turn out. It is in their stories that we find comfort, hope and direction. In When Faith Is All You Have, we learn countless practical lessons for how we, like those before us, can walk by faith and not by sight in the uncertainties of our lives.

downturn. Please remember to bring in your food donations and drop them off in the Wishing Well in the front entry of the church, or you may simply choose to make a monetary donation to Waldport Food Share by including it with your Sunday morning offering. Simply make a notation on the memo line for Waldport Food Share. Food Share is currently experiencing a shortage of food and having to turn folks away.

Our September donation to Waldport Food Share was 120 pounds of food. Please remember to bring in your cans and other

non-perishable items!
