Opening your own business is often a learn-as-you-go process. The smarter decisions you make early on, the better chance your company has for success. Here are some pointers... 1. Address excuses: Countless people dream of becoming entrepreneurs, but they never do. Theyre burdened with excuses and fears of failing. From money to time to responsibilities, you can make a million cases for not starting a business. Dont fret. Worrying about the risks of business ownership is normal, even essential. 2. Absorb everything: Listen to what others have to say—friends, family, experts, even yourself. As you learn, start to work out the idea in your head. Write things down. Keep notes from all the resources you come across to develop a detailed plan. Dont ignore the power of advice from experts and veteran business owners. These folks know first-hand what does and doesnt work. Smart entrepreneurs learn from the mistakes other business owners have made. 3. Keep it simple: As a new business owner, try to start small and narrow your focus. Learn how to test your business idea. You dont need all the bells and whistles of a giant corporation. It will be easier to add to your business as it grows. 4. Count the costs: Once you start to develop your business idea, add up how much it will cost. You will need to factor in every business expense necessary to launch and operate. Some costs to keep in mind include your location, rent, supplies, marketing, and more. Come up with the most educated number you possibly can. Then, take whatever you think that dollar amount is and quadruple it. Youll experience unexpected costs of running a business around every corner. Its better to be over prepared than short on funds when bills start to roll in. When you're thinking of the cost to start a business, dont forget about your personal budget. Look at how much money you need to live, including rent, food, gas, healthcare, etc. Lay these expenses out in order of which ones you must pay (e.g., mortgage) to ones that can slide if the money runs out (e.g., entertainment). 5. Earn while you build: If you want to start a small business, don't quit your day job—yet. Launching a successful startup is a process. Build your business in stages and gradually transition from employee to entrepreneur. 6. Speak up about your business: One challenge many business owners face is that they dont know how to sell. It can be intimidating to share your business with the world, especially when youre new. 7. Know the legal requirements for starting a small business: Starting a business is exciting. Learning about laws are not (to most of us!). You need to understand the rules that come with opening a business. If you fail to follow government regulations, you could face steep penalties. 8. Balance passion with wisdom: One of the most important ingredients in a successful business idea is passion. Passion will consistently drive you to improve your process so your business grows. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Ramona Chamber of Commerce is to develop and maintain a climate for viable economic growth, to

promote loyalty to and networking for local businesses and to demonstrate an outstanding leadership role in our community.

Opening your own business is often a learn-as-you-go process. The smarter decisions you make early on, the better chance your company has for success. Here are some pointers...

1. Address excuses: Countless people dream of becoming entrepreneurs, but they never do. They’re burdened with excuses and fears of failing. From money to time to responsibilities, you can make a million cases for not starting a business. Don’t fret. Worrying about the risks of business ownership is normal, even essential.

2. Absorb everything: Listen to what others have to say—friends, family, experts, even yourself. As you learn, start to work out the idea in your head. Write things down. Keep notes from all the resources you come across to develop a detailed plan. Don’t ignore the power of advice from experts and

veteran business owners. These folks know first-hand what does and doesn’t work. Smart entrepreneurs learn from the mistakes other business owners have made.

3. Keep it simple: As a new business owner, try to start small and narrow your focus. Learn how to test your business idea. You don’t need all the bells and whistles of a giant corporation.

You’ll experience unexpected costs of running a business around every corner. It’s better to be over prepared than short on funds when bills start to roll in. When you're thinking of the cost to start a business, don’t forget about your personal budget.

6. Speak up about your business: One challenge many business owners face is that they don’t know how to sell. It can be intimidating to share your business with the world, especially when you’re new.

7. Know the legal requirements for starting a small business: Starting a business is exciting. Learning about laws are not (to most of us!). You need to understand the rules that come with opening a business. If you fail to follow government regulations, you could face steep penalties.

Heading out of downtown

Ramona toward Julian, you’ll see

Casa Rustica, set back off the

street just past the Ramona

Valley Inn and 2Create Gallery.

Visible from the street is a large

collection of pottery, fountains,

and outdoor furniture in the

courtyard. That’s only a small

part of Casa Rustica’s

offerings. As owners Mary and

Andy Canales say, “we’re not

just a pottery” store, and after

visiting their store, we see what

they mean!

Casa Rustica also sells a wide

variety of home décor and gift

items—hand-painted ceramic

art, stunning forged iron home

accent pieces, Talavera pottery

and tin mirrors, handblown glass

drinkware and decor, elegant

pewterware, handmade table

runners and pillows, chandeliers

and lamps, sterling silver jewelry,

and so much more. Whether

you are shopping for a gift or

decorating your home and

garden, Casa Rustica has

something for you!

Casa Rustica is a haven for

shoppers and non-shoppers

alike. And, as Chamber

members, shopping at Casa

Rustica helps support the

community. Stop by and say hi

with no pressure to buy, and let

Mary and Andy know you read

about them in the Ramona

Mixer attendees played games to

win tickets to trade for prizes.

It was all fun, games and good times at the carnival networking mixer. Hosted by Fix Auto Central Ramona on April 18th, the venue was the perfect setting for the carnival themed mixer. Popular fair games such as balloon darts, ring toss and the duck pond were scattered throughout the area waiting for members to try their luck and win raffle tickets. Members were able to select from an assortment of prizes depending on how many

tickets they won.

No one won the $1000 rollover jackpot, but we kept pulling tickets until a member was present to receive $100. That lucky member was RAE Automotive. Ramona Locksmith also known as PJ’s Lock and Safe representative Adriana Olinger won $172 during the 50/50 opportunity drawing. Thank you Fix Auto for hosting another amazing mixer! Up next is

the rodeo mixer happening on May 16th.

OPEN STUDIOS TOUR April 13th and 14th was a beautiful weekend filled with blue skies and sunshine for the 16th Annual Ramona Open Studios Tour. For only $10 per ticket, attendees were able to mingle with Ramona artists by touring their private studios or temporary displays featured at another artist’s studio all weekend long. One artist reported receiving over 140 visitors during the two-day event. Artists welcomed guests in their own special way with food, snacks, treats, drinks and of course their unique displays of art. A total of 15 studio stops with 28 artists were showcased during the two-day tour. Tour guests were amazed with the variety of artists and art Ramona has to offer. By the end of the tour, artists were exhausted from talking and entertaining visitors all weekend long but also found themselves elated with the amount of interest tour goers demonstrated. Many of the artists’ pieces of

work can be viewed right in town at 2Create Gallery located at 438 Main Street, Ramona throughout the year.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Rancho Land Co. and Olive Tree Wellness Center

Rancho Land Co. is the only land surveyor with a storefront and can be found at 406 16th St., Suite 102 right here in

town. During the opening held on April 5th, Casey, who has over 20 years of land surveying experience, expressed

that he saw a need for a land surveying company in our community. Casey manages the land surveying component

of the business while Tiffany oversees its daily operations and marketing. Not only does Rancho Land help

homeowners locate their boundary lines and property borders, but they also help with topographic surveys,

construction staking, subdivision mapping, and lot line adjustments. Casey is also the chair of the Ramona

Community Planning Group since his involvement in 2016. For more information on Rancho Land Co. and its

services call, Tiffany or Casey at 760-788-1530.

April 20th, a day recognized by some to celebrate marijuana, marked the date for the ribbon cutting ceremony at

Olive Tree Wellness Center. Olive Tree is fully licensed to operate in Ramona. The center is proud to serve as a

leading provider with a 20 year history of supplying safe, tested, high-quality cannabis products. They offer

affordable prices while focusing on a patient-first approach, premium service, and quality medication. In order to

purchase cannabis products from Olive Tree, patients are required to have their medical recommendations, which

can be done at the facility. To learn more and review cannabis products featured at Olive Tree Wellness Center, visit

https://olivetreewellnesscenter.com/ .

Casey and Tiffany Lynch, co-owners of Rancho Land Co. opened for business on April 5th 2019.

The opening of Rancho Land Co., a land surveyor business, was celebrated by chamber members with a ribbon cutting.

Olive Tree Wellness Center manager Duane Alexander receives Ramona Chamber member plaque.

Olive Tree Wellness Center is a premium medical cannabis dispensary located at 1210 Olive Street. The medical dispensary features a variety of cannabis products including tinctures, concentrates, topicals, and more.
