ADEFYRADEFYR ADEFYRMCCI NEWSLETTER AND WHAT’S ON!The Friday evening youth clubs continue to be busy, with nearly 100 children attending between August and October. The ‘Wee Kids’ have had the chance to join in with a variety of fun activities including a planes, trains and automobiles day, an autumn themed session, junk modelling, cooking, ‘my favourite story’, team games, den building, pirates and princesses and an end of term party.

MCCI have had the fantastic news that we have been awarded £20,000 of funding to develop the community learning garden on Sea Road, Methilhill. £10,000 of funding was awarded from both The Big Lottery Communities and Families Fund and The Coalfields Regeneration Trust. The garden will house activities to promote learning… and fun… for our children, young people, and adults alike!

Work on the garden will start in Early 2014 and start with a weekend clearance even where we hope members of the community will be able to donate a little of their time to help. Any time, however short, will be of great help to the project.

There’s lots to do outdoors for families during the winter months… just wrap up warm and explore the local countryside. Lots of ideas for fun outdoor learning activities in the woods can be found at www.foresteducation.org.

In October, members of the Levenmouth Young People’s press attend an information evening in Kirkcaldy delivered by the Junior Climate Challenge Fund. The group of young people have decided to take on a project within the garden which they have named ‘Charlie’s plot’. The project will investgate climate change and the positive impact growing produce to eat can have.

The Levenmouth Young People’s Press have now also printed and distributed 3 issues of their magazine ‘Hear Us’. The group’s hard work is evident in the quality of their articles and other magazine items. Well done to them for their continued efforts!

The group has been lucky to be awarded some money from the Fife health and Wellbeing Alliance to pilot an outdoor youth club, the ‘Great Outdoors’. The club, which will trial from November until March 2014 and focus on outdoor learning, will meet on a Saturday and is aimed at children aged 7-10 years.

On the 7th of September 2013, MCM held Scotland’s first Comic-Con at The SECC in Glasgow. It is a convention held for people who love comics, sci-fi and anime. There was a

comic village where writers and artists were there to sell, sign and draw comics. There were game demonstrations, memorabilia stalls, face painting for children, cosplay and celebrity

guests.

Cosplay is when people dress up as characters from anime, comics and sci-fi television cartoons and this was a big part of the day. There was a Doctor Who tardis and props that was built single-handedly by a man for his young son and you could get our photo taken

in it.

There were celebrity guests there from sci-fi programmes such as Babylon-5, Harry Potter, Torchwood, Primeval, Merlin and anime cartoons. Warwick Davies was one of the guest

speakers and was talking about his work in all the Harry Potter films as well as his other pro-grammes. Vic Mignogia, who is a voice actor, signer and director, was signing pictures and

speaking with fans. He is famous for his anime work and won Best Anime Voice Actor in 2007. He has voiced characters for Dragon Ball Z, Bleach and Naruto as well as Sonic the

Hedgehog game.

The convention was very busy with thousands of people attending and I really enjoyed the day, as I like anime. I think next year it will be bigger and better.

On the 8th of November Aimee and Megan interviewed Paula. Paula is a session worker that works at the Wee Kid's Fun Club. Paula is traditionally from Poland. We asked Paula

some questions about her traditional Christmas. The first thing we asked Paula was "how do you say Merry Christmas in polish?" she said "Wesołych Świąt". We then went on to ask her about the dishes she told us that they eat 12 dishes. On christmas the most important

dish is fish. We asked Paula what her favourite dish was, she said that it was "Bigos". We asked her if they had any traditional christmas song but she said that its mainly just the

same as what we have. We asked her about their christmas traditions.

Here is a little thing we have put together about a polish christmas with our answers from Paula. The preparations for christmas begin many days before the actual celebration.

Nearly everywhere woman are cleaning windows in apartments and houses just before christmas. The insides of houses are also thoroughly cleaned. It is to believed that if a

house is dirty on christmas eve, it will remain dirty all next year.

Weather forecasting is quite popular during Christmas. Everything that happens on Christmas, including the weather, has an impact on the following year. The weather on

easter and throughout the next year supposedly depends upon the weather on Christmas (snow, rain etc). Only a white Christmas is considered a era Christmas; therefore, every-

body is happy when there is fresh snow outside.

On christmas day Polish people open there presents when the first star comes out.

Hope you enjoyed:)

ANIME!!Anime is a Japanese animated production, the earliest Japanese animation dates back to 1917. The popular art style we see today first emerged in 1960 through the work of artist

Osamu Tezuka. This style spread internationally in the late 1900's, visually anime is a diverse art form that contains a wide variety of styles that share few similarities to one

another.

Anime follows the typical production of animation, including story boarding, voice acting, character design and cel production. Cel production is an animation technique

where each frame is drawn by hand.

The animation industry consists of more than 430 production companies with some of the major studios including Toei animation, Gainax, Madhouse, Gonzo, Sunrise, Bones

and Studio Ghibli. The anime market for the United States alone was worth approximate-ly $4.35 billion in 2007.

Dubbed animation began in the United States in 2000 on networks like The WB and Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. As the internet gained more widespread use in Japan, online advertising revenues grew from 1.6 billion yen to over 180 billion ten between

1995 and 2005.

Anime clubs gave rise to anime conventions in the 1990's with the "Anime Boom". These conventions are dedicated to anime and manga and include element like cosplay con-

tests and industry talk panels. Some good animes are; Bleach, Naruto, Dragon ball/Drag-on ball Z, Attack On Titan and Ouran High School Host Club.

GAME REVIEWMinecraft is a computer game suitable for all ages, and both boys andgirls. The game is available for 3

devices; PC edition, X-Box and the pocket edition for ipod, iphone and ipad.

The game is very simple, you destroy blocks to gain materials to build your creations. It has 3 different aspects; Creative where you can build with unlimited blocks;

Hardcore, where you need to survive on the hardest difficulty with only one life; and Survival, which is the main aspect of the game. Simply put, the aim of the game is to survive until night, then survive past all

the enemies like spiders, endermen, eregers and zombies.

During the day there are different animals to interact with; chickens, cows, sheep and the piggies. There are also 3 different dimentions; the normal world, the nether and the end. The dimentions have different

enemies like zombies and pigmen in the Nether, magna cubes and glots in the End and the Enderman and Ender Dragon.

The game cost around twenty pounds but is worth every penny, providing hours upon hours of endless fun. This would be a greta gift for christmas, so if you know anyone who enjoys playing video games,

Minecraft would be a great choice!

HORRID HENRY BOOK REVIEWThe Horrid Henry Christmas books are an excellent addition to anyone’s book collection. If you haven’t

read a Horrid Henry book yet, then the Christmas editions are a great place to start.

The Horrid Henry books tell stories about a boy named Henry who the neighbours know as a ‘horrid’ boy who plays nasty pranks an everyone. Other characters who join in his adventures are Miss Battleaxe and

Margaret.

The Christmas editions are, in my opinion, a great introduction to Horrid Henry’s escapades. Read as Henry performs Christmas related stunts and pranks which are sure to send you into fits of giggles!!

Horrid Henry books are available to buy from most book stores and online from outlets such as Amazon.

The Christmas PigEm woke up, stood up and looked outside. The tiny snow flakes were beginning to coat a fluffy bed of

snow. She sat down, looked around and fantasised about the day ahead. She walked downstairs to see a note; “good morning Em, and happy Christmas Eve. We went to Alice’s house. Come over… Mum x”

She walked to the hall, slipped on her boots and her big coat over her PJs and began walking across the road. Suddenly she heard a noise. It sounded like a small grunting coming from under the snow. Being an

observant person… (well, pure noseyness really) she went over and saw a pig… a small pig, no bigger than her boots. The pig looked cold, almost freezing. Em wasn’t going to leave it there to freeze, so she went

inside and grabbed a scarf to wrap the poor pig in...

The Levenmouth Young People’s Press would like YOU to finish the story, The Christmas Pig. Maybe the pig is a magical pig, maybe Em has special powers, maybe Em hugs the pig and it turns into a handsome

Christmas Prince??? Maybe you can come up with a wonderful festive idea of your own!!!

Entries for The Christmas Pig story competition need to be emailed to [email protected], or handed into Friday night youth clubs at Methilhill Church Hall by Friday 13th December. Winners will be announced on Methilhill Community Children’s Initiative’s facebook page later that evening and the winning stories will

be published in Issue 4 of Hear Us magazine, due out Easter 2014!
