Retail clinic/convenient care clinic Retail clinics, sometimes called convenient care clinics, are located in retail stores, supermarkets and pharmacies.

Urgent care Urgent care centers, sometimes called walk-in clinics, are often open in the evenings and on weekends.

When to go: • Colds or flu • Vaccinations or screenings • Sinus infections • Allergies • Minor sprains, burns or rashes • Headaches or sore throats

Wait time to expect 15 minutes or less (on average) Cost $20-$89 (approximate cost per service for non-employer sponsored facilities)

Your doctor’s office Seeing your doctor is important. Your doctor knows your medical history and any ongoing health conditions.

Emergency room Visit the ER only if you are badly hurt. If you are not seriously ill or hurt, you could wait hours and your health plan may not cover non-emergency ER visits.

Tips for eating healthy on the run Sometimes you just cannot avoid grabbing a meal at a fast food restaurant. But, eating fast does not mean you have to make poor choices. Here are some tips for eating right when you need it fast!

Take time to look over the menu and make careful selections. Some restaurant menus may have a special section for “healthier” choices. Choose items labelled baked, braised, broiled, grilled, poached, roasted, or steamed. Avoid foods that are batter-fried, pan-fried, buttered, creamed, crispy, breaded. Order the regular or child-sized portion or split your order with a family member. Boost nutrition by adding tomato, lettuce, peppers or other vegetables. Ditch the bun or choose a wrap Choose water, unsweetened tea or a diet beverage.

We all love a sweet treat from time to time, but that is exactly what high calorie beverages should be ̶̶ an occasional treat. Consider this, the recommended caloric consumption for a moderately active woman in her 30s is 1,800 calories. So consuming just 1 grande peppermint white chocolate mocha is almost the equivalent of 1 meal. Are you willing to skip a meal to have that sweet drink? And, if you are sedentary, you’ll need to consume even fewer calories. If you’re really thirsty, drink water. If you’re wanting a hot beverage, try herbal teas that often taste great without added sweetener.

Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s that time of year when we celebrate the notion of love and men treat the ladies in their life with one of America’s favorite treats: chocolate. And yes, there is a lot of hype about chocolate in the health industry. So is chocolate good or bad for you?

Well it turns out that chocolate (especially dark chocolate) contains flavonols, which are substances that can reduce your risk of disease. Studies have shown that people who consume chocolate had reduced risk of heart attack because blood platelets clump together more slowly.

Chocolate’s antioxidant properties also help fight the risk of stroke in women. And, chocolate may be beneficial in preventing cancer. Chocolate contains a compound called pentameric procyanidin, or pentamer, which disrupts cancer cells’ ability to spread. Chocolate has also been found to increase insulin sensitivity ̶

reducing the risk of diabetes. Need some brain power? Eat some chocolate. Studies have shown that participants had an easier time counting backwards from randomly generated numbers after they had consumed a cup of hot cocoa. *Consume high-calorie foods in moderation and maintain an active lifestyle.
