Scary facts:
- The average Canberra house size has increased from 149 m2 to 213 m2 over 20 years
-Australia has the largest average house size in the developed world and Canberra has the largest average house size in the nation
75 % of Canberran currently live in detached houses
-ACT consumption of electricity and gas has grown more quickly that its population
- Houses and cars account for around 94 % if Canberra's greenhouse gas emissions
- Canberra is about 10 times less dense than Melbourne and Sydney and is one of the lowest density cities in the word
- Canberra has a higher car dependence than the national average
- Since 1990 the amount of road infrastructure maintained by the ACT government has grown by nearly 30%

Federal Government National Urban Design Protocol confirmed the gap for better guidance on Active Living on Site level
Developed locally informed by international best practice, the checklist contains a 'goodie pack' of valuable measures that are useful for everyone.
It contains a value statement that outlines the potential direct benefits.
The checklist has also been included in the work of the Green Star Council of Australia (Healthy Communities rating tool as an required indicator)
