Call to Order Dr. Sonia Ramamoorthy, Chair -

• Chair Dr. Ramamoorthy called the meeting to order at 5:07p.m.

• No announcements; Introductions of guest speakers, Brendan Kremer and Ernest Villarreal

Presentation: Parking Update

• Parking belongs as a service/function to Campus and is run through the office of the Vice Chancellor, Gary Matthews

• New hire Josh Kavanagh, Transportation Services Director, recruited to run parking for all campuses

• Chancellor has recognized that parking has become a difficult situation and has asked for it to be addressed

• Ernest Villarreal also hired recently; formerly with Ace Parking; serves as a parking program manager/liaison to collaborate with

Dr. Tom Savides, Chief Experience Officer, Professor of Medicine

Transportation Services and the Parking Department

• Currently working on a comprehensive plan with 2 phases: 1) improvements to patient/visitor parking on the La Jolla East Campus; 2) Improvements to faculty/staff parking on the La Jolla East Campus

• Phase 1 includes both immediate improvements and other improvements that will take 37-57 weeks; improvements include exploring new technology and infrastructure

• Phase 2 includes 150-200 new spaces at the Soccer Field (ETA 3-4 months) and 200-300 new spaces at P783 (ETA Fall 201).

• During peak parking hours of 10am-1pm, Monday-Friday, faculty/staff should park in Athena

• Additional concerns raised by HSFC: a way to address/dispute citations such as a phone number to call; more faculty representation re: parking decisions

Presentation: Stanford Physician Wellness Survey

• 50% of our faculty are burned out, and there an average cost of $500k to replace an MD

• Burnout is highly influenced by leadership • In October 2017 the American Conference on

Physician Health was hosted by Stanford in collaboration with the AMA and Mayo Clinic

• The Stanford model dealing with burnout features 3 facets: culture of wellness, efficiency of practice, and personal resilience

• Stanford estimated that physician burnout leading to departures cost Stanford between $15.5 and $55.5 million a year.

• Stanford Physician Wellness Survey- there are two surveys to measure physician wellness and professional fulfillment—a physician wellness survey and a house staff wellness survey

• The purpose would be to measure and monitor MD wellness/burnout, and to identify factors driving wellness

• Benefits include sending a positive message, improving both MD and patient outcomes, and decreasing malpractice issues

• UCSD would join the Physician Wellness Academic consortium as the 9th member of the group and the only UC

• Survey information is de-identified, by department and division, measured against national benchmarks
