As we adapt to new ways of living and working and recover from the impact of coronavirus, we must re-focus on our vision for the future.

Responding to new challenges coming from every angle will be key to unlocking future success and keeping our workforce safe and connected.

That’s why the theme for this year’s conference is HSEC360: Reconnected.

We have planned two days of amazing presentations and engaging sessions for you in person, supported by online live streaming and on-demand content from key speakers.

So whether you join us in the Hunter Valley or watch on from home or the office, we will be sharing leading practice and lessons from across the sector to help to improve performance, culture and collaboration.

We’re excited about holding this leading industry conference for the first time in two years.

It will be great to get back together, catch up with industry colleagues and hear about developments in the operating environment, challenges and opportunities for our industry and achievements of colleagues and collaborators.

We have put together an incredible program of almost 50 speakers from across Australia with insights and lessons from leaders and experts for a safer, healthier and more sustainable industry that continues to make a strong contribution to our economy and the community.

Global futurist, academic and international affairs expert Dr Keith Suter will provide insights into economic, geo-political and environmental challenges and opportunities for our industry.

You might have seen communications and engagement expert Carolyn Miller on ABC TV’s Gruen. She is a leading expert and as the world changes, she will help us to understand how we can change the way we communicate for better stakeholder relations.

We will hear industry case studies about learning from incidents to improve safety and health. Including forensic engineer and analyst Dr Sean Brady who recently completed a detailed report on fatalities in the Queensland mining industry.

Land management and rehabilitation will take centre stage when Yancoal details one of the country’s first relinquishments of mined land at Lake Kepwari in Western Australia, which is now used for community recreation.

After such a challenging year for everyone, TV and radio host Gus Worland will talk to us about his personal fight for people suffering from mental health challenges and the need for us all to build mental fitness.

Plus we have regulatory updates from the EPA, DPIE Water, the Department of Planning and Environment and the NSW Resources Regulator. And a suite of industry case studies from NSW and across Australia to help you improve your work practices and performance.

The HSEC Awards Dinner returns in 2021. We can’t wait to showcase the great examples of excellence, innovation and leading practice in health programs and safety performance, environmental management and community engagement.

Hosting the Awards Dinner in 2021 is comedian, actor and TV and radio personality Dave Thornton. He’s travelled the world doing stand up comedy and has appeared on many TV shows including Talkin’ Bout Your Generation, Hughesy We Have A Problem and The Project.

But before he got his start in comedy, Dave was employed at Newcrest Mining’s Cadia Valley Operations in Orange and may have a few good stories to tell about his time working in mining.

Yancoal is Australia’s largest ASX-listed pure-play coal producer and is a major contributor to the continued economic growth of regional NSW and Queensland.

Yancoal directly employs 4,300 people across operations in NSW, Queensland and Western Australia, plus contractors and service providers, sourcing the majority of its people from the local communities in which it operates.

Yancoal’s NSW regional production operations include Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW), Moolarben, Ashton, Stratford-Duralie and the Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) joint venture.

We thank Yancoal for becoming the HSEC Awards Dinner sponsor in 2021, for taking a leading role in elevating the conference and for their desire to showcase leading practices across our industry.

Glencore is one of the world’s largest and most diverse natural resource companies and a long-term supporter of this event.

They’ve been in business in Australia for 20 years and employ around 18,000 people across coal, copper, nickel, zinc, oil and agriculture businesses.

Glencore operates coal mine sites across NSW and Queensland and has a strong focus on safety, environmental performance and making a positive contribution to the communities within the regions where they operate.

We thank Glencore for their continued support as presenting partner of the NSW Mining HSEC Conference and for the leadership role they play in its development.
