• Last minute/unforeseen issues• LEAK IN ROOF OF VENUE• Eliminate- No• Reduce- Wipe at regular intervals• Prevent Contact- Cordon off area• SSOW- Insufficient time• PPE- Not effective• DECISION: If affected area isn’t too large, continue session whilst reducing and

preventing contact. If situation worsens cancel session

• S.U. risk assess venues• Clubs and societies risk assess their activities• Blank risk assessment• Submit by end of October• £50 and suspension of activity for failing to do so

DEALING WITH VIOLENCE

• Predicting Violence• History of violence• Emotions• Physical Factors• Things to look out for

• Pacing/Fidgeting• Clenching fists/jaws• “Wild” look in eyes• Out of touch with reality• Speaking loudly or verbally abusive

If you see these behaviours, take immediate steps to reduce the tension before it escalates

REDUCING TENSION

• No “right” answer• Remain Calm• DO NOT say “calm down”• Talk about the problem• Avoid being defensive• Non-confrontational body language• Offer choices• Change the subject• Avoid humour• Be patient

IF AGGRESSION OCCURS

• Protect yourself• If you fall, block attack with feet and legs• Break hold- Turn towards thumb• Choked- Raise arms and turn• Bitten- Push into bite• Hair pulled- press down on hands• Weapon- Never reach for weapon, encourage person to talk
