Staying 12+ months If the duration of your stay in Norway is more than one year, you

automatically become insured under the Norwegian National Insurance scheme when you register as a resident in Norway.

When you get a personal identification number, you will also be offered to join the family doctor/ GP (fastlege) scheme (6 months+ stay may qualify).

Under the “Fastlege” scheme, every inhabitant in Norway is entitled to his or her own general practitioner. GPs attached to the scheme must give priority to patients on their lists. During office hours always contact your regular GP, not the emergency medical service. If you want to find a GP or change your GP, go to www.nav.no or www.fastleger.no or call 81059500. (Helfo)
