Health and Safety

Clay is glorified mud; it’s a combination of different elements (Rock, Sand etc.) Held together by moisture/water.

Clay is only workable when it’s wet or moist or damp. Clay very quickly dries out when handled or left in the open air.

When clay dries it shrinks dramatically. Clay can be reconstructed by submerging in water. If you want to fix clay permanently it needs to be fired in a kiln. The process is called firing.

Working with Clay Clay dust is incredibly dangerous. During the cleaning process, do not use a hand brush, Use

a wet cloth. When cleaning up, Dry clay; Wear a face mask or a dust mask. If using water with clay, avoid spilling clay or water on the floor. If so, Wipe up. When handled, clay has the drying effect on your skin. Sucks moisture out, Use gloves or

moisturizer after work. Remove all jewellery and rings etc. When clay work is finished, it needs to be fired in a kiln at high temperature.

Plaster Plaster dust is harmful if inhaled and like clay; Plaster has a drying effect on your skin.
