The seven-year-old met with a rare defeat in last October's G1 Prix du Cadran at Longchamp, but opened this campaign with a second victory in the Listed Vin- tage Crop S. at Navan Apr. 27. The six- year-old added the Royal feature last time June 19, and was a class above yesterday=s overmatched rivals to add to his 2006 score. Johnny Murtagh ideally positioned his mount in second from the bell, allowing Tungsten Strike (Smart Strike) to build a six-length advantage by halfway, but coaxed Yeats closer once into the stretch run. The champion smothered the brave pacesetter at the two pole and opened up daylight with the minimum of fuss from there to break the ,1-million barrier, enhancing his impressive portfolio with a 12th stakes win. AHe's a great horse, a true warrior and fair dues to the owners for keeping him in training," said Murtagh. "The crowds turned out to see him, and he did not let them down, although he's often done more on the gallops. He was fresh at Ascot, but today was much better as it was a more even pace. TRUCK DRIVER’S FILLY TO GET ‘TEST’ In November, breeders will spend six and seven fig-ures on broodmare prospects at Keeneland=s BreedingStock sale in the hopes of producing a Grade I winner. But price isn=t everything. Just ask owner/breeder DeanHayes, whose Tequilas Dayjur (Dayjur) will be startingin Saturday=s GI Test S. at Saratoga. Hayes, a truckdriver who has worked for Sallee Van Lines for over 30years, owns just one broodmare, a daughter of Astronamed Tequilas First. The price tag on Tequilas First?Zero. She was a giveaway from the late Jere Smith Sr.,who died in 2004. Hayes met Smith by hauling hishorses between Arlington and Hawthorne. TequilasDayjur, the second foal out of Tequilas First, caught theeye of Hayes= cousin, who had been an exercise rider.ATwo to three days after she was born, my cousin TomEmbry--who is 77-years-old--said, >You got somethingthere young man= when he saw her conformation,@Hayes recalled. Tequilas Dayjur broke her maiden at 30-1 in her first start, despite breaking slow and losing sixlengths. She boasts a record of 6-4-1-0 and has earned$140,516. The dark bay was second in the GIII Chi-cago H. against older fillies and mares June 28 atArlington in her last start. Tequilas Dayjur led approach-ing the final sixteenth but was collared by the five-year-old Leah=s Secret, who was already a Grade II winner. AIwas pleased with it,@ Hayes said of Tequilas Dayjur=seffort. AShe ran a nice race against older horses. [Leah=sSecret] was just more seasoned.

There=s no shame getting beat by her.@ Hayes ishopeful his filly will show Awhat she=s made of@ in theTest. AWe=ll see if she belongs with horses like IndianBlessing and the rest of the three-year-old fillies,@ headded. AWe=re going to crawl before we=re going towalk and we=re going to walk before we=re going torun.@ Tequilas Dayjur races under the name of herowner, but in the future she=ll race for UddentownStables. Hayes decided to name his racing operationafter the African American community where he grewup, which is about eight miles outside of Lexington. -Jon Forbes

BSHARPSONATA TO PLETCHER BARNBsharpsonata (Pulpit) has been transferred to the barnof Todd Pletcher by owner John Sykes, according toDaily Racing Form. The filly won this year=s GII DavonaDale S. and GII Forward Gal S. for trainer Tim Salzman. She was a narrowly beaten second in the GI Ashland S.before running fifth in the GI Kentucky Oaks and eighthin the GII Black-Eyed Susan S. Given time off after theMay 16 Black-Eyed Susan, she joined the Pletcher barna week ago. No definite target has been chosen forBsharpsonata. AWe don=t have a particular path pickedout,@ explained Matt Lyons, general manager forSykes=s Coverleaf Farms and Woodford Thoroughbreds.AWe know she can run on turf, we know she can runon dirt, we know she can run on Polytrack. We=ll seehow she comes back and see what Todd thinks of herand hopefully get a couple of races into her.@ Lyonsoffered no definitive reason for the trainer change. ATimdid a great job with her, he still trains six or sevenhorses for us,@ Lyons said. AWe wanted to try some-thing different and obviously Todd=s a great trainer andhe has some horses for us.@

Bustin Stones Improving: Bustin Stones (City Zip), the morning-line favoritescratched from Saturday=s GII Alfred G Vanderbilt S.due to a bruised foot, continues to improve, accordingto Daily Racing Form. AHe was pretty good this morn-ing,@ trainer Bruce Levine said. AWe=ll give him anotherday or two, then re-evaluate it. We=re headed in theright direction, we=ve just got to wait for it to be 100percent.@ The four-year-old, unbeaten in six starts, hasbeen off since winning the Apr. 5 GI Carter H.
