Seton Hall plays its final road game of the season on Saturday night at Georgetown, where the Pirates are looking for a regular-season sweep of the Hoyas for the first time since 2017. Seton Hall will round out this year’s regular season with its final two games at home against Marquette on March 6 and Villanova on March 9 at Prudential Center. The winner of tonight’s game will have an important leg up on securing a top-4 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. LAST TIME OUT Seton Hall fell behind St. John’s in the first half, and although the Pirates whittled down a 23-point deficit to five with 1:46 to go, the Red Storm pulled away with a 78-70 win last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. Junior Myles Powell led the Pirates with 26 points. THE PREVIOUS MEETING Myles Powell scored a game-high 30 points, his fifth 30-point effort of the season, to lead four Pirates in double-figures as Seton Hall downed Georgetown, 90-75, on Feb. 13 at Prudential Center. The game was part of Seton Hall vs. Cancer Night with the student-athletes wearing shooting shirts with names of people afflicted by the disease that were auctioned off. The auction raised over $5,000 that will go to the American Cancer Society. The Pirates led by 21 with 15:59 to play, but Georgetown eventually cut the lead to 79-68. A jumper by Quincy McKnight boosted the Pirates’ lead to 83-70 with 6:34 remaining. From there, both teams struggled to score, and the Pirates kept the Hoyas at arm’s length. ALL-TIME VS. GEORGETOWN The Pirates are 49-57 in the all-time series, and have won six of the last seven games overall. This is the 107th meeting between the programs, the second-most frequent opponent in Seton Hall history (Villanova- 116 meetings). Last year in our nation’s capital, Seton Hall battled back from a 17-point, second-half deficit to take a one-point lead, and were tied with under 30 seconds remaining. However, Georgetown’s Marcus Derrickson hit a three-pointer with 4.5 seconds left, as the Hoyas escaped with an 83-80 victory on Feb. 10, 2018. FIRST QUADRANT’S THE BEST QUADRANT As of Feb. 28, Georgetown is a top 75 team in the NET, making Saturday’s game a quadrant one game for Seton Hall. The Pirates currently have three Quad 1 wins, and earning a fourth would put them in good company. There are currently only 30 teams in the country with at least four Quad 1 wins. HISTORIC 600 With 10 more points this season, Myles Powell will reach an exclusive club in Seton Hall history. He will become just the 14th player all-time to score at least 600 points in a season for The Hall. Furthermore, he will be only the second to do so under head coach Kevin Willard and just the third since 2000. The last five Pirates to reach 600 in a season: >> Isaiah Whitehead (‘15-16) - 618 >> Jeremy Hazell (‘08-09) - 726, (‘09-10) - 654 >> Terry Dehere (‘90-91) - 672, (‘91-92) - 601, (‘92-93) - 770 >> Anthony Avent (‘90-91) - 606 >> John Morton (‘88-89) - 658 LOOKING TO CLINCH A WINNING SEASON If Seton Hall beats Georgetown, no matter what happens the rest of the way, it will secure an overall winning season record for a fifth consecutive year. Only one other time in the program’s BIG EAST era (1979-present) have the Pirates had five straight winning seasons. That came from 1991-95. The overall program record is 14 consecutive winning seasons from 1908-23 (no team in 1918-19). No. Name Pos. Cl. Ht. Wt. >> MEDIA INFORMATION

INSIDE THE HALL PIRATE POINTSSeton Hall Standard » Kevin Willard has led the Pirates to three

consecutive 20-win seasons, and it is an accomplishment the program has come to expect every season during his tenure.

» His four 20-win seasons overall are the third-most in Seton Hall history behind P.J. Carlesimo and Honey Russell, who each have five.

» Only twice before in program history had Seton Hall recorded three consecutive 20-win seasons: 1951-53 under Russell, and 1991-93 under Carlesimo.

» Seton Hall has never had four consecutive 20-win seasons.

» After going 10-8 in the BIG EAST last season, Seton Hall now has three consecutive years of double-digit conference wins for the first time in program history.

» The Pirates are seeking a trip to the NCAA Tournament for a fourth straight year, a feat the school has accomplished only one other time - 1991-94.

Scheduling For March » With many new faces on the 2018-19 roster,

Kevin Willard wanted to challenge his team with a demanding and strenuous non-conference schedule. At the conclusion of the non-league slate, Seton Hall went 9-3, which included winning the Wooden Legacy Tournament championship, a neutral site win over No. 9 Kentucky and a road triumph at Maryland.

» When you include the BIG EAST schedule, the Pirates are playing 23 of their 30 games against teams that are currently in the KenPom top 100.

Seton Hall Stacks Up » The Pirates have piled up 12 wins against teams

currently in the KenPom top 100 (as of 2/28), which is third-most among BIG EAST teams:

» Marquette – 14 » Villanova – 13 » Seton Hall – 12 » St. John’s – 11 » Georgetown – 8 » Providence – 8 » Creighton – 7 » Xavier – 7 » Butler – 6 » DePaul – 6

Beasts Of The BIG EAST » Including this year, the last four seasons in the

BIG EAST have been some of the best in school history, and Seton Hall ranks high among the 10 league members in that span. Since the start of the 2016 conference season and including conference tournament games, Seton Hall has the third-most wins among the 10 schools:

» Villanova - 65 (2015, ’17 & ’18 champs) » Xavier - 49 » Seton Hall - 43 (2016 champs) » Marquette - 41 » Providence - 39 (2014 champs) » Butler - 38 » Creighton - 37 » Georgetown - 25 » St. John’s - 22 » DePaul - 14

Bye Week Relief » Under head coach Kevin Willard, the Pirates have

used the BIG EAST bye week to their advantage for the most part. Since the reforming of the league in 2014, The Hall is 9-3 in conference games that come with at least five off days: » 02/09/19 vs. Creighton (6 off days) - 63-58 W » 01/27/19 at Villanova (7 off days) – 52-80 L » 01/28/18 at DePaul (7 off days) – 86-70 W » 01/06/18 at Butler (5 off days) – 90-87 W » 02/01/17 at Xavier (6 off days) – 70-72 L » 01/07/17 vs. DePaul (5 off days) – 87-56 W » 02/17/16 at Georgetown (6 off days) – 72-64 W » 01/16/16 at Providence (6 off days) – 81-72 W » 02/28/15 vs. Creighton (6 off days) – 67-66 W » 01/22/15 vs. DePaul (8 off days) – 60-64 L » 02/20/14 vs. Georgetown (6 off days) – 82-67 W » 01/18/14 at Georgetown (6 off days) – 67-57 W

Finish Strong » Seton Hall is 78-10 (.886) in its last 88 games

(dating back to the start of the 2015-16 season) when holding a lead of seven or more at any point in the contest.

Powered By Powell » Seton Hall is at its best when Myles Powell

dominates the game. The Pirates are 9-1 this season when he scores at least 25 points.

70 Is The Goal » On offense, Seton Hall needs to score 70 points

to be successful this season. The Pirates are 13-3 (.813) when they score at least 70 points, 3-8 (.273) when they don’t.

Pirates Handle The Heat On The Road » Seton Hall has a history of playing well in

hostile environments, and has 16 true road wins with attendance over 8,500 over the previous four seasons:

» 01/20/15 at Creighton - 17,397 » 01/28/15 at Marquette - 14,917 » 12/30/15 at Marquette - 13,314 » 01/16/16 at Providence - 11,148 » 01/30/16 at Creighton - 17,924 » 02/21/16 at St. John’s - 13,204 » 11/17/16 at Iowa - 10,391 » 02/04/17 at Georgetown - 10,142 » 03/04/17 at Butler - 9,100 » 12/03/17 at Louisville - 19,244 » 01/06/18 at Butler - 8,855 » 02/22/18 at Providence - 11,432 » 02/24/18 at St. John’s - 18,840 » 12/22/18 at Maryland - 12,555 » 01/02/19 at Xavier - 10,224 » 02/17/19 at Creighton - 17,036

Fueled By February » Seton Hall seems to play very well in February.

Since February 2016, the Pirates have compiled a BIG EAST record of 18-12 in the second month of the calendar year. While December and March have also been kind to the Pirates, they play far fewer games in those months than in January and February.

» December: 4-1 » January: 14-16 » February: 18-12 » March: 3-1

Remember Those Non-Conference Wins » Among the 10 BIG EAST teams, Seton Hall

and Marquette are the only two programs to have multiple non-conference wins over teams currently in the NET top-25 this season. The Pirates knocked off Kentucky (5) and Maryland (23), and the Golden Eagles defeated Wisconsin (15), Buffalo (16) and Louisville (21).

Resume Booster » Seton Hall’s win at Maryland is one of only 26

victories for Power Six Basketball teams in true road games against other Power Six Basketball foes during non-conference play this season. Among the BIG EAST, there were only five such victories:

» Georgetown at Illinois (Nov. 13) » St. John’s at Rutgers (Nov. 16) » Providence at Boston College (Dec. 4) » Providence at Texas (Dec. 21) » Seton Hall at Maryland (Dec. 22)

A Resilient Bunch » Seton Hall has won five games this season after

trailing at the break, and have won 10 games after trailing by five or more at any point in the contest. The Pirates trailed St. John’s by 14, and Xavier by 10 earlier in the year before mounting comeback wins. Against Providence on Jan. 30, Seton Hall led at the break, but trailed by as many as seven in the second half, before mounting another come-from-behind victory. On Feb. 9, the Pirates trailed Creighton by six with 3:42 remaining in the game, but used an 11-2 run to close the contest and seal the win. On Feb. 17 at Creighton, Seton Hall trailed by six with just over four minutes left in the game, but closed it out on a 14-2 run.

32018-19 GAME NOTES #HALLin @SETONHALLMBB

PIRATE POINTSRaining Threes » Junior Myles Powell has moved into fifth all-time at

Seton Hall in three-pointers made with 240. This is in only 94 career games. If he keeps this pace up, he will be within striking distance of the all-time Pirates record, which is held by Jeremy Hazell, who made 328 triples from 2007-11. He has connected on a three in 50 of his last 51 games, and in 87 of his 94 career appearances.

Healthy To Mix In Some Cale » Myles Cale has been lighting it up from the field

over the last nine games, especially from beyond the arc. He is 24-of-49 (49.0 percent) from downtown, and 48-of-93 (51.6 percent) overall. Over the last 15 games, he has bumped his overall shooting percentage by 8.2 points after shooting 34.3 percent during the first 11 games of the season.

» Over the last four games, Cale has averaged 16.5 points.

Leaping Up The Leaderboard » Myles Powell is making strides on the all-time

scoring leaderboard at The Hall. In fact, he has already climbed up 36 spots on the leaderboard to number 21. Powell reached the career 1,000-point milestone against Hawaii, and now has 1,469 career points. He needs 51 more points to break into the top-20 by passing SHU Hall of Famer and current Denver Nuggets General Manager Arturas Karnisovas (1990-94), who had 1,509 career points.

Graduates in the Pros » All four of Seton Hall’s 2018 graduates are now

playing professional basketball. Angel Delgado signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Clippers. Desi Rodriguez went to training camp

with the Clippers and then signed a G-League contract with the Agua Caliente Clippers. Ismael Sanogo signed a G-League contract with the Long Island Nets, and Khadeen Carrington is overseas playing in Belgium with Limburg United.

» In early February, Angel Delgado was called up to the Los Angeles Clippers, and earned his first-career NBA minutes and first NBA points. He had three points, four rebounds and a steal in 13 minutes against the Pacers on Feb. 7.

Own The Paint » Seton Hall is 9-3 this season when it out-

rebounds opponents. » The Pirates have out-scored opponents in the

paint by an average of 34.9-27.9 this season. » At Butler on Feb. 2, the Pirates out-scored the

Bulldogs in the paint, 38-22, and did not allow any second-chance points. Butler had just four offensive rebounds, as Seton Hall finished with a 30-28 rebounding advantage.

» At St. John’s on Feb. 24, the Pirates pulled down a season-high 17 offensive boards.

» Mamukelashvili is fifth in the BIG EAST with 7.3 rebounds per game.

Defense, Defense, Defense » The Pirates have been consistent defensively all

season, and have allowed just two teams (Miami & DePaul) to shoot 50.0 percent or better.

» Furthermore, just four teams (St. Louis, DePaul, Villanova & Butler) have shot 40.0 percent or better from three-point range.

» The Pirates are also tied for second in the BIG EAST in blocked shots per game (4.0), led by Sandro Mamukelashvili, who is tied for third in the league with 1.3 per game.

Winning With Nzei » As his career winds down, senior Michael Nzei

continues to move up the charts in Seton Hall history. Last week, he cracked the program’s top 100 all-time scorers and currently stands in 91st at 641 points. More importantly, Nzei has been a winner his whole career, and the 84 wins Seton Hall has while he’s been on the roster ranks him tied for fifth all-time in program history. The record is held by Arturas Karnisovas and Bryan Caver, who won 93 games at Seton Hall from 1991-94.

1. Arturas Karnisovas (1991-94) 93 Bryan Caver (1991-94) 933. Terry Dehere (1989-93) 884. Chris Davis (1990-91, 92-95) 865. John Leahy (1991-95) 84 Angel Delgado (2014-18) 84 Desi Rodriguez (2014-18) 84 Khadeen Carrington (2014-18) 84 Ismael Sanogo (2014-18) 84 Michael Nzei (2015-present) 84

A Glimpse At The Future » Seton Hall secured two commitments for the 2019-

20 season as Tyrese Samuel and Dashawn Davis have signed National Letters of intent to join the Seton Hall family, Willard announced. Samuel is a 6-8 forward from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and is currently attending Orangeville Prep in Ontario. He is a top-100 and consensus four-star recruit and previously attended Wasatch Academy in Utah and Riverdale Baptist in Maryland. At Wasatch in 2017-18, he averaged 12.0 points and 5.0 rebounds for a Tigers squad that went 17-2. Davis is a 6-3 guard hailing from Bronx, N.Y., and he is currently playing his high school ball at Our Saviour Lutheran, also in the Bronx, the same school that produced current Pirates freshman Jared Rhoden. As a junior at Our Saviour Lutheran, Davis showed tremendous scoring prowess, averaging 18.5 points for a powerful Falcons squad that won 31 games.

Powell Does It All » Powell has 24 career 20-point games including 15

this season, and scored 15 or more in 17 of the last 19. He furthermore has 10 games with 25 or more points this year. His 40-point outburst against Grand Canyon is tied for the most in a regulation Wooden Legacy Tournament game (James Harden vs. UTEP 2008). Powell was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List and the Lute Olson Award Midseason Watch List.

» He has been on a tear lately, averaging 23.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 steals, 2.4 assists, and shooting 90.5 (38-for-42) at the free throw line over the last seven games.

SCOUTING THE PIRATES

THE PREVIOUS MEETING

• Seton Hall fell behind St. John’s in the first half, and although the Pirates whittled down a 23-point deficit to five with 1:46 to go, the Red Storm pulled away with a 78-70 win last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. Junior Myles Powell led the Pirates with 26 points.

• The Pirates fell behind 28-5, and it was an uphill climb from there. Seton Hall never gave up and got within five with a late 12-3 run. They then could have cut it to a one-possession game, but a turnover doomed The Hall as St. John’s then got the lead back up to 11 before Powell’s three-pointer at the end finished it at eight.

• It was Seton Hall’s first loss of the season when Powell scores at least 25 points.

• Myles Powell scored a game-high 30 points, his fifth 30-point effort of the season, to lead four Pirates in double-figures as Seton Hall downed Georgetown, 90-75, on Feb. 13 at Prudential Center. The game was part of Seton Hall vs. Cancer Night with the student-athletes wearing shooting shirts with names of people afflicted by the disease that were auctioned off. The auction raised over $5,000 that will go to the American Cancer Society.

• The Pirates led by 21 with 15:59 to play, but Georgetown eventually cut the lead to 79-68. A jumper by Quincy McKnight boosted the Pirates’ lead to 83-70 with 6:34 remaining. From there, both teams struggled to score, and the Pirates kept the Hoyas at arm’s length.

2016-17BIG EAST Freshman of the Week 11/20/16

Jan. 2, 2019 at Xavier>> Powell showed how impactful he can be not only as a scorer, but also as a facilitator. He poured in a game-high 25 points on only 9-of-15 shooting and also issued a career-high eight assists to lead The Hall to a comeback win over the Musketeers at Cintas Center. When accounting for his assists Powell, factored in 42 of Seton Hall’s 80 points in the game.

Dec. 15, 2018 vs. Rutgers>> Powell, a New Jersey native through and through, felt that Seton Hall was the best team in the state and personally made it his mission to ensure everyone knew it. He scored 28 points and hit the dagger three-pointer to put Rutgers away and allow the Pirates to reclaim the Garden State Hardwood Classic trophy. He was named Joe Calabrese MVP for his efforts.

Dec. 8, 2018 vs. No. 9 Kentucky>> Powell made Madison Square Garden his playground in the second half vs. Kentucky, making “unmakeable” three-pointers, including a wild hesitation triple with 1.5 seconds remaining in regulation to temporarily give The Hall the lead. He finished with 28 points (25 in the second half + overtime) and four assists as the Pirates took down the nationally ranked Wildcats in overtime. He earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors for the effort.

Nov. 22, 2018 vs. Grand Canyon>> On Thanksgiving Night, Powell had himself a feast. He scored a career-high 40 points on 12-of-16 shooting overall, 5-of-7 from three and 11-of-14 at the free throw line, only the 15th 40-point performance in school history. He helped the Pirates beat the Lopes, 82-75, and when Seton Hall went on to win the Wooden Legacy championship, Powell was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player.

March 15, 2018 vs. NC State>> Needing to deliver an NCAA Tournament win for the first time in over a decade, the Pirates not only relied on their four seniors, but also the sophomore Powell, who was terrific down the stretch making 10 of 12 free throw attempts and finishing with 19 points and a career-high nine rebounds in the 94-83 victory over the Wolfpack.

Nov. 30, 2017 vs. No. 22 Texas Tech>> Powell put the world on notice that he was ready for the spotlight. At Madison Square Garden against an undefeated nationally ranked team, Powell hit a pair of dagger threes and put the Red Raiders away with a driving layup, a steal and then another layup to put the Pirates up 13 and send them to an 89-79 win.

March 4, 2017 at No. 13 Butler>> Seton Hall found a way to overcome a late 10-point, second-half deficit at No. 13 Butler, and it was Powell who ensured it would end in victory. With 35.1 seconds to go and the Pirates up one, he knocked down a wide-open dagger triple to silence the raucous Hinkle Fieldhouse crowd and send The Hall to the 70-64 upset win, the program’s first ever victory at Butler.

Nov. 17, 2016 at Iowa>> In his first “big” test, the freshman Powell was cool, calm and collected. In front of a loud Carver-Hawkeye Arena crowd, Powell made nine of 14 shots, including five three-pointers, to lead Seton Hall to a 91-83 road victory as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games. He was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the effort.

“Powell is playing the best basketball of his career right now. He’s emerged as a real leader of this team. The Pirates have a Player of the Year Candidate in Myles Powell that has NCAA Tournament experience that should help them in the long run.” - Steve Lavin, FOX Sports Analyst

“He’s tremendous. I told him that in the handshake line. Not just a shooter, he’s getting assists, getting to the foul line - he’s tremendous.” - LaVall Jordan, Butler Head Coach

“Myles Powell pushes the start button early for Seton Hall. Teams respect him so much from long-range that they hang with him on the outside, but allow him to get to his beautiful left handed finish at the rim.” - Donny Marshall, FOX Sports Analyst

“He’s a very dominant player because he is so efficient. Probably the most complete guard in our conference. You talk about shooting the ball and getting to the rim, he knows what’s been expected of him and he’s doing a great job as a leader.” - Tarik Turner, FOX Sports Analyst

AGAINST 2018-19 OPPONENTS >>

Come to Seton Hall University, develop your academic and athletic skills, play in the greatest basketball conference in the country, compete for conference championships and NCAA Tournament bids and graduate with a degree all while enjoying a great student-athlete experience.

That’s the program that Kevin Willard has built in his eight seasons as the head coach of the Seton Hall men’s basketball program. With a keen eye for recruiting, an emphasis on individual instruction and skill development and a dedication to academic success, he and his coaching staff have built the Pirates into winners on the court and in the classroom.

In 2017-18, he coached The Hall to its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, a feat the school has not accomplished since a string of four straight NCAA berths from 1991-94. In addition, he has led the Pirates to three straight 20-win seasons for the first time since 1991-93 and three-straight years of double-digit BIG EAST wins for the first time ever.

Kevin Willard holding the 2016 BIG EAST Championship trophyWillard has mentored 12 All-BIG EAST selections and three BIG EAST All-Rookies, and this includes Fuquan Edwin, the 2014 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, Angel Delgado, the 2015 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, 2017 unanimous All-BIG EAST selection and 2018 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award winner, and Isaiah Whitehead, the 2016 unanimous All-BIG EAST first team selection who went on to be selected in the second round of the 2016 NBA Draft.

Making a huge emphasis on effort in the classroom, Willard’s student-athletes have also combined for 44 BIG EAST All-Academic team selections, and the program has boasted a perfect single-year academic progress rate in five of the seven NCAA reports since he became head coach as well as perfect multi-year APR scores in 2016 and 2017. The NCAA has also recognized Seton Hall with NCAA APR Public Recognition awards for boasting an APR in the top 10 percent in the country three consecutive years from 2015-17.

Willard has proven to be a strong evaluator and recruiter of talent, as he brought in a consensus top-15 national recruiting class in 2014, led by Whitehead, the program’s first McDonald’s All-American since 2001 and just the fifth all-time. He also has been able to retain Metropolitan New York’s top talent; the 2018-19 roster boasts six scholarship student-athletes hailing from either New York or New Jersey.

The 2017-18 season was filled with accolades and milestones as a senior-laden squad delivered the program’s first NCAA Tournament victory since 2004, a 94-83 win over NC State that was followed by an eye-opening performance against top-seeded Kansas. The Pirates, who were ranked as high as No. 13 in the Associated Press poll on the season, played a rigorous schedule throughout the year, achieving banner wins over Texas Tech, Louisville, Butler and Providence. Twenty-six of Seton Hall’s 34 games came against KenPom top-100

teams, and the Pirates won 15 of those contests, while also earning nine wins against teams that advanced to national postseason.

The Hall also proved to be an elite BIG EAST squad once again as the Pirates finished in a tie for third place and maintained their position as one of the best teams since the realignment of the new BIG EAST in 2014. Including conference tournament wins, Seton Hall has the fifth-most league wins in the 10-team conference since 2014 (50) and the third-most league wins since 2016 (36).

The Pirates finished 2017-18 rated No. 24 in the Sagarin Ratings, No. 26 in the KenPom, No. 27 in the BPI and No. 31 in the NCAA RPI while also receiving votes in the final Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls.
