Spring is here and there’s a definite change in the air. With the onset of March, we move into a season of change, of new beginnings and new adventures and a time when the delicious temperatures outside make it easy for us to find joy in the little things in life, like an exclusive Babyshop voucher

only for Source readers!

March is also traditionally a month all about women. International Women’s day takes place on the 8th and is a day for reflecting upon the achievements of many inspirational women worldwide. To coincide with this, we spoke to Huda Al-Blooshi, the director of Al Qattara Arts Center, about her determination to succeed in changing the artistic landscape of the Garden City. March 21st is UAE Mother’s Day, a special occasion where we show our love and appreciation to each of our mums. We were delighted to catch up with Parveen Parkar and her lovely mum Shareefa to hear their story of overcoming hardship and strengthening the bond between a mother and her children.

This month is also a time for celebrating, as the cool evening breeze takes over from the steadily increasing daytime heat of the sun. We look at Brazil’s Rio De Janeiro, where it’s a time for partying with the world famous carnaval attracting thousands of visitors every year. We also pop over to Wadi Nahyan, the perfect spot to while away a spring afternoon.

Spring has most certainly sprung. Happy reading!

ENVIRONMENTBirthday parties are tons of fun but they also create lots of waste. Instead of buying everything, consider an eco-party with a recycling theme. It may take a little more effort

but it will save some money and look super cool. Fancy dress is always a good idea for any children’s party so go with an environmental theme, how about Scarecrows, Scallywags or Pirates? These are all easy themes and all you’ll require is some badly worn clothing and a bit of imagination. And for the grand finale, have a fancy dress parade with an eco-friendly prize for the winner, maybe a garden growing kit or some fair-trade chocolates!.

MY MOTHERMy dearest Mother,

You mean so much to me

You have always been there,

Because I know that you deeply care;

You always encouraged me

To follow my dreams,

Not once doubting that

I might not succeed.

I have always admired

Your determination to give me

the best of Everything;

I know I don’t always express this,

But you are the best mother !

Standing for what you believe in, regardless of the odds against you, and the pressure that

Keeping a smile on your face, when inside you feel like dying, for the sake of supporting

others; means strength!

Stopping at nothing, and doing what's in your heart, what you know is right;

means determination!

Doing more than is expected, to make another's life a little more bearable, without uttering a single complaint;

means compassion!

Helping a friend in need, no matter the time or effort, to the best of your ability; means loyalty!

Giving more than you have, and expecting nothing but nothing in return;

means selflessness!

Holding your head high, and being the best you know you can be when life seems to fall apart at your feet, facing each difficulty with the confidence that time will bring you better

tomorrows, and never giving up; means confidence!

Butcher Shops in Al Ain Make the Cut

Rotana’s Falaj Wing close to completion

Last week, Al Ain Rotana gave the media a sneak peek at their brand new, and almost complete, Falaj Wing.

The expansion is an unprecedented effort to raise the status of the Al Ain Rotana, a prestigious hotel that first opened its doors back in 1999.

The impressive project will see 48 luxurious chalets added to the hotel in addition to a family swimming pool, and an award-winning Zen Spa which will be the region's biggest spa, consisiting of four separate male and female treatment rooms, one couple’s treatment room, saunas, steam rooms and a set of plunge pool.

"The expansion is designed to accommodate both business travelers and holidaymakers, with state-of-the-art in-room facilities, meeting precisely visitors' needs", explained Ayman Gharib, General Manager of Al Ain Rotana.

With the recent horsemeat scandal rocking many European countries, butcher shops in Al Ain last week underwent a surprise visit from inspectors from the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA), who carried out random quality inspections in Souq Al Zaafarana and a number of markets and shopping malls across the city. The ADFCA issued warnings to four butcher shops who have been told to rectify the problems or face disciplinary action. Dr. Yousuf Ali Al Saadi, Acting Director of ADFCA, ensured the public that meat products available in the local market are safe for human consumption.

The Al Ain Traffic and Patrol Section

light traffic offences. Al Ain Police recorded

2114 incidents involving red light traffic

to reduce their speed when

The Ambulatory Healthcare Services (AHS), a section of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, will provide a free shuttle service for people who require medical screening for visa purposes from Al Qua and Al Wagan areas to the Disease Prevention and Screening Center in Al Ain.

The shuttle will leave from AHS Healthcare center in Al Qua at 7:15am and from Al Wagan at 8:00am. Availability is on a first come first served basis.

Last Thursday, students at Al Diwan Kindergarten in Al Ain donned their favorite uniforms for a day of activities under the theme ‘My dream in the future’. Children dressed as doctors, artists, policemen, pilots, engineers, divers, farmers and hunters enjoyed many exercises related to their favorite careers as well as talks from those already working in the respective fields.

He added “the expansion will not only strengthen the property's leading role in the city but will also highlight Al Ain as a destination that is ideal for meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions, leisure and corporate business."

The Falaj wing chalets, available as studios, one-bedroom or two-bedroom apartments and complete with underground parking, will be open to the public in late May/early June this year.

Tehmur Chohan continued his dominance of the Mini MAX class while in the Micro MAX, Sem Knopjes added another win to his already impressive tally.

Shareefa’s Journey:My husband lost his job almost 20 years ago and since then I’ve been the sole breadwinner of my family of five. I’ve been working as a social sciences teacher at Dar Al Huda School for over 24 years now! I’ve struggled a lot to support my family financially as when I started teaching my salary was a mere AED1600 a month which wasn’t enough at all. I had to take on extra work whenever I could. Since 1989, I have been working hard just to keep the house running and take care of my children. My husband helps in taking care of the children and other daily house chores but it’s still hard work.

My children are my strength. I love them so much! They’ve never demanded anything and I’ve tried my best to provide for them whenever I could so that they didn't feel left out or less fortunate than others.

Being a teacher, I wasn't able to look after my children like other mothers. I regret this as I didn't have the time to pay attention to their studies as my time was either spent at school or doing tuition to get extra money for the family. But, alas, I had to do this for the sake of providing my kids with the basic necessities in life.

After working for over two decades, I am getting ready to resign from my job. I’m taking this step for my daughter, Praveen. She finished her schooling two years back and has been at home since then. I can't afford her higher education here, so I have to move back to my home country to support her in her future plans.

My children are my achievements. My eldest daughter is now married with three children of her own and I'm happy to see her settled. My son has recently started working at a telecommunications company. My struggle and my hard work are a lesson for other women to fight against the odds and proof that everything will work out in the end.

Parveen’s Comment:"My mom is undoubtedly the most amazing person I have ever came across. It's not easy for a woman to work and earn every day and to run the house. She has been working hard as far back as I can remember. She is always working and one amazing thing about her is that she never gets tired and has never ever complained about it. She provides us with everything she can and myself and my siblings are extremely proud of her!

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, we were delighted

when Parveen Parkar emailed us to tell us how proud she is

of her mum Shareefa. We met up with the pair to find out their story….

March is a month for mums! So, in celebration of all mothers across the world we’ve put together

some terrific quotes that sum up our thoughts about all our fantastic mums!

When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child. -Sophia Loren

"Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love." -Stevie Wonder

A mother's arms are more comforting than anyone else's. -Diana, Princess of Wales

I want my children to have all the things I couldn't afford. Then I want to move in with them. -Phyllis Diller

The mother is everything - she is our consolation in sorrow, our hope in misery, and our strength in weakness. She is the source of love, mercy, sympathy, and forgiveness. He who loses his mother loses a pure soul who blesses and guards him constantly." - Khalil Gibran

Rolls-Royce has always been the epitome of pure luxury. Since 1904, the company has produced model after classic model, each one oozing so much sophistication it’s as if they are dipped in a huge vat of the stuff before they make it anywhere near a showroom. Hand built somewhere in the rolling hills of England, Rolls Royce is a machine like no other. And now, thanks to VanderBijl Design, there’s a version in a class all of its own. Enter ‘The Lady of Luxury’.

Transformed from a 1977 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, ‘The Lady of Luxury’ is the world’s most unique beverage bar and DJ booth. Keeping many of the original features intact, Dutch design group VanderBijl have added a whole plethora of gadgets to turn what was already an icon of style into the ultimate plaything.

The Spirit OfLUXURYBy Hayley Skirka

The mahogany wooden back of the car has been transformed into a fully-equipped bar with 21 coolers, 100 champagne flutes and space for another 60 bottles. The modified wings act as speakers when upright and can be swiftly folded down to produce two burr-walnut bartops, perfect for serving Bond-style shaken-not-stirred beverages.

A built-in Pionneer DJ set with 16 integrated JBL speakers and amplifiers coupled with two iPod docking stations equip this Lady with all the unique high-end audio she needs to kick off an evening of ultimate decadence. Despite the modifications, the car is still road legal and retains its original 6.75-litre V8 engine.

Inside, the car retains an interior archetypical of these iconic Brit cars, with plush cream leather paneling complemented by slick tan piping. The trademark bonnet ornament of Rolls Royce stands proudly atop The 'Lady of Luxury', having been modified ever so slightly to sport a tiny set of DJ headphones. Quite aptly she has been renamed ‘The Spirit of Luxury’ and is the epitome of VanderBijl’s successful fusion of elegant modernity and automobile legend.

If you fancy taking this particular lady out for a spin, she’s yours for the evening for a grand old sum of just AED300000! As always, serious luxury comes at a price!

dream job, she and her team have a mammoth task ahead of them in promoting the Al Qattara Arts Center and its exciting new programs to the local community. Compared to Dubai, the Al Ain local community is much more conservative and art has not really been a feature in its development until now. Huda explains, “We have to introduce the concept of art and make them [people] aware of the importance of art to build a country.” Her team visit schools to help promote art from a young age and are in the process of considering a ‘sponsoring a talent’ program whereby a committee will choose the most talented students and work to develop and nurture their talent. Huda explains “After their course, they would have an exhibition and we might also consider sponsoring them to study in the Emirates or abroad… that’s how we support and create real art.”

Huda appreciates that she is now in a position where she has the opportunity to develop both her management skills and her love for art. She fondly reminisces about her own very first painting, “The first portrait was of my little brother, at the time he was sick and had gone abroad for treatment; I missed him so I drew something for him and he has it until now.” Huda’s art has evolved from drawing portraits to dabbling in mixed media, collages and textiles and she now produces some truly aesthetically pleasing work. According to Huda, art is intended to “create an idea and present it to people” and, going with this theory, it’s a real community initiative.

Huda Amer Al Blooshi is a real source of inspiration for all women. She will undoubtedly play a major role in the evolution of the UAE's art scene, thanks to her impossible and steely ambition and determination. Her optimism, enthusiasm and commitment motivates her and her team and, having watched her at work, I’m quite certain, the Al Qattara Arts Center will very soon be an important venue for both local and international art.

I was recently invited by a friend to an archeology talk at Al Qattara Arts Center where I was introduced to the very convivial Huda Amer Al Blooshi, the Center’s Director. Immediately I got the impression that Huda is determined to make Al Qattara Arts Center a key venue in both Al Ain and

the emirate of Abu Dhabi, for all things arts, heritage and culture.

For many years, Huda’s passion for art was stifled by a community who looked at the subject as nothing more than the passing of free time, “as if your career is something and your passion and talent is something else” she explains. Thus, rather than do what she truly wanted to, she opted to conform and instead pursued a Business Administration degree at Al Ain Higher Colleges of Technology.

After graduation, Huda was happy to be offered a position with the Tourism Culture Authority in Al Ain. Initially, she was involved in many high profile marketing campaigns such as the annual Al Ain Aerobatic Show and the city’s Classical Music Festival. Huda’s experience here gave her “wide experience in business and management” that made her soon to be transition to Al Ain Municipality very easy.

Ambitious and career-driven, this young woman quickly climbed up the ladder at Al Ain Municipality. She was appointed as Public Relations Officer before being transferred to the Human Resources Department to work on some huge projects. Ms. Huda considers herself fortunate to have been chosen, proudly explaining “they had a very big initiative off 22 HR projects and I had to market their initiatives within the municipality and the community. Working in the HR department also gave me new skills with how to deal with employees, how to lead and what to do when you have problems.”

After many years at the municipality, Huda decided to reignite her passion for art and migrated to Al Qattara Arts Center

where she has held the position of Director for just over seven months. Smiling, she confesses “Actually I had this dream; I knew that one day we’ll have an art center in Al Ain and I will be something in this association. Alhamdulillah, my dream became more than what I expected because now I’m managing the art center.” She laughingly tells me that although she has landed her

You’re in your final year of high school and the air is filled with change and excitement. There may be so much going on right now that you haven’t actually had the time to give much thought to college, universities or majors. But with spring just around the corner, now is the time to begin making plans and putting them into action.

The final months of high school can be frenetic, but you still need to find the time to consider what major you would like to pursue once you leave for university. It’s an important decision, and not one to take lightly. The choices you make now will affect your career choice in the future and although nothing is set in stone, getting started on what you want to do as early as you can is definitely not a bad decision.

So, how do you make the right choice? Here are some tips to help guide you…

MAJORThe

Headache

Do your homeworkThere are so many options available, that one of the hardest things can be narrowing your options down to four or five practical choices. The most important thing is to choose subjects that you will enjoy. Once you’ve got a few possible options, investigate each industry fully. Research job descriptions, average starting salaries and find out about future job prospects and potential career advancements.

Ask yourself…

1. Where do your strengths lie?2. What are you interested in or where does your passion lie?3. How many years of schooling do you want to commit to?4. What kind of work do you want to do?5. What kind of life do you want to lead?

Be proactiveAttend meetings or events of a few academically focused clubs that you’re interested in. It will give you a chance to meet with industry leaders and speak to other students who are already enrolled in the majors you’re considering. Being proactive will help you narrow down your options and give you a better idea of the area you might like to pursue.

Test the waters through experienceShadow someone in a career you’re interested in by spending a few days with them on-site or consider getting a part-time job, internship or volunteer in your area of interest. You will have in-depth knowledge of the industry and it will also be helpful in the future when it's time to look for a job because you’ll have credible contacts in your chosen field.

How do you like to study? You should have some idea about how you prefer to study. Whether that’s regular assignments throughout the course or a major set of final exams, theoretical instruction or practical hands-on application. In some majors, you have to work individually, in others as a group. Some students prefer to present their assignment verbally; others prefer to create written reports. Select a course that suits your study style.

Evaluate yourselfThere are many online evaluations available to help you discover your unique strengths and give you a comprehensive picture of your skills. As well as doing this research online, you should utilize your school’s resources and visit the career center. Meet the career counselor to discuss your interests and find out about the required skills. Career counselors can help collate all this information together into a meaningful plan.

GOOD LUCK!

Where would you prefer to study? Now that you’ve found your dream course, you have to find out where is the best country to specialize in this subject area. It could be a country with plenty of internship and graduate work opportunities in that specific industry, or a city that has access to detailed resources. It’s also a good idea to ask yourself, where in the world would you like to live and study for a few years? Living in a foreign country provides you with an opportunity to experience a very different way of life but for some people, having home comforts within reach is more important. Think carefully and decide what is best for you, as you are the best person to make this decision!

Can you tell us what inspired you to open a dance studio? My dance instructor in both the UK and India, Mr Barry Luther, has always been a great source of inspiration for me. He has spent his life teaching jazz and passed onto me the wisdom that you should find one thing you love and devote your life to it. His passion and approach made me realize I wanted to do something where I break the barriers and go against the norm. Being Indian people expect me to teach typical Indian dance forms, and they’re generally surprised when they step into our Step ‘n’ Groove studios and realize that’s not the case.

How has the business expanded? We started with one branch in Bur Dubai, in October 2009. After that, there was no looking back and now we’re also active in Jumeirah Lake Towers, Al Nahda and Al Ain.

What’s your typical clientele? We train both recreational and professional dancers so we have a fairly mixed client base and we cater for everyone, from kids to adults. Anyone who has ever wanted to dance is welcome to come alone and give it a try.

What can people expect to learn at the studio? We don’t teach steps as such, but prefer to teach knowledge of rhythm no matter which genre of dance we’re focusing on. We have so many different dance styles including hip-hop, jazz, ballet, rock-n-roll, contemporary, salsa, disco, tango and so much more.

What’s your business’s unique selling point (USP)? We don’t teach students to dance to a song. We teach our students to get familiar with the rhythm of music and to make their own moves accordingly. We believe that anyone who can walk can also dance. We stand out from the crowd as we don’t teach what other dance schools do and vice-versa; this also gives us a good rapport with other dancing institutes.

Do you plan to expand?Yes, right now we are working on venturing into Abu Dhabi and that should happen in a few months time. We are also working

on expanding the existing Al Ain branch into a dance institute as, believe it or not, we get the best response from the Garden City and the students are demanding more! The instructors love training in Al Ain because of the enthusiasm and there’s a great mix of locals and expats in the classes.

What advice do you have for anyone thinking about starting their own business? When you’re starting a business, don't focus on it being a money-making affair. You have to focus on hard work, show patience and determination from the outset and eventually things will fall into place and you’ll begin to generate revenue.

DanceBy Mehak Alam

Dancing is a great way for people of all ages to get fit, stay fit and have fun while doing so. A new sphere of dance, Step ‘n’ Groove, has hit the Emirates and is a one-stop-

shop for anyone interested in learning some new moves. We spoke to Suresh Kumar, a Broadway trained dancer and businessman, and the brains behind the Step ‘n’ Groove

studios to establish just how serious a business dancing is these days.

What do you like about living in Al Ain?Seeing people on desert roads stop to bow down and tell God they love Him. I think that’s beautiful. Although I must admit I don’t like all the speeding cars.

Why did you specifically start writing Islamic children's literature?Growing up in the UK and living in America, I was aware of and trying to address the invisibility of the Muslim child. Teachers understand the importance of children having a sense of belonging and research shows that when children don’t see themselves in literature; it’s a problem.

Where do you find your inspiration?I generally draw inspiration from my own, personal experiences as well as traditional tales, fairytales and values from God’s Last Testament.

What kind of messages do your books convey? In 1999, I was teaching Year 2 at an English Islamic school in the States. I read them a version of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and, while I read, I interspersed the story with phrases like ‘Asalaamu alaikum,

Fawzia Gilani-Williams, originally hailing from the UK, is an English teacher for Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and is currently based in Al Ain. She is a remarkable, inspiring lady whose battle with cancer created

within her a desire to make a difference to children's lives. Embarking on this personal challenge a few years ago, she has now written over 40 children’s stories, each with an Islamic theme, and as if that wasn’t enough she's currently completing a PhD in Children's Literature. We caught up with this busy

woman just before she headed off to a children’s literature conference in Rome.

InshAllah, SubhanAllah’. One child, Mustafa, said, “Ustadah (teacher), it doesn’t say those words in the book.” I looked at him and replied, “How do you know?” To which he excitedly said, “Well, show me then.” At this point he leaned forward and this caused almost all 32 other children to get on their knees or stand up and reach for the book. I stood up and raised the book in the air. There was momentary chaos. The children were desperately grasping for the book, hoping to get a glimpse of those words. It was pitiful. Of course, the book didn’t have any of those terms that Muslim children hear on a daily basis and the incident reinforced the idea that children need to have their way of life validated in books. These young children demonstrated that in a very powerful way. Thus, my stories endorse actions and beliefs that Muslim children can relate to.

It's interesting that you've named your books after classic fairytales such as ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Snow White’. Why did you specifically select these fairytales? Two forms of story influenced me as a child: stories of God’s prophets who were my heroes and, like many little girls, fairytales. As a child, I imagined pulling Joseph out of the well, standing with Moses in Pharaoh’s court, watching Jesus perform miracles and, when Jonah was thrown in the sea, I dived in there with him, peace be upon them all. When I read fairytales, I did a similar thing - I was Cinderella with her glass slippers. At the time, I didn’t know there was a problem with fairytales and reconciling them with Islamic customs. When I taught at Islamic schools I discovered that there were certain stories that are problematic and Cinderella is one of them. In an Islamic culture, where some interpret a handshake as intimate, is it feasible for Cinderella to dance with a handsome stranger? Evidently not, thus I saw the need for stories and fairytales that Muslim children could read and identify with.

What are your future writing plans?I’m bursting with ideas about the Emirates. I'm hoping that I can get onto an ADEC literacy team. I’d like to focus on producing stories that promote Emirati culture and heritage in line with ADEC’s mission.

One of my favorite adventures in Al Ain is a visit to Wadi Nahyan situated at the base of Jebel Hafeet near the Green Mubazzarrah area.

The limestone mountain rises to about 1349m, and there are many different things to see. Walking up the Wadi takes you into the throes of a rugged mountain. Jebel Hafeet with both short and steep cuts into its girth offers the perfect place for wanderers to spend quiet mornings or peaceful evenings simply having a look at what’s around. Recently, I was there in the late afternoon just lying on a rock watching the resident Egyptian Vultures search for food. As you walk

up the Wadi, you can find calcite crystal seams that form between rock fractures and cross right under your feet. If you stop and look you can see the crystals going from one side of the Wadi to the other. The deeper you walk, the more you see!

This area offers something for everyone with the rock formations popping out against the deep

blue sky to create a stunning backdrop. If you’re a rock hound, bird watcher, plant enthusiast or perhaps a reptile and insect hunter, you’ll be in your element here so long as you know when and where to look. And for those of you who just want a good workout, well you can find that here too. The walk up the Wadi can be as long or as short as you want it to be, just take a snack and a bottle of water and enjoy wandering beneath the grand majesty of this imposing natural creation.

This is one place in Al Ain where you can drift into nature and really feel like you’ve escaped the rat race for a few hours.

Unless you’ve spent the best part of your life living on the moon, you’ve probably heard of the infamous carnaval held every spring in the eclectically colorful city that is Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Five days of samba, revelry, dancing,

partying, costumes, drums and more samba culminate in a fantastic parade packed with huge mechanical floats, whirling dancers and every color under the sun.

Residents of Rio, also known as Cariocas, spend weeks and months preparing for the big event. Costumes are meticulously planned, dance steps rehearsed, floats constructed and arrangements made. Carnaval is in their blood. For visitors, arriving in Rio at this time is a bit like arriving at Santa’s workshop on Christmas Eve: everyone is busy, focused and working flat-out and yet there’s an undeniable air of excitement, eagerness and fantasy.

It can be tricky trying to get your bearings in this flurry of activity but that’s the beauty of Rio, no-one expects you to know exactly what’s going on or where you’re headed to. All they ask is that you smile and allow yourself to enjoy the madness. If your heart desires, there’s plenty of ways you can get involved. Why not attend a famous masquerade ball, take some samba lessons or throw on a costume and be part of the parade itself? If huge crowds aren’t your thing, avoid the Sambadrome on the night in question and instead join one of the many bandas. These street parties fill almost every neighborhood with the sound of beating drums, merrymaking, singing and, of course, samba-ing. The Banda de Ipanema is probably one of the most famous but if you’re looking for something slightly less crowded, head to Savaco de Cristo, a hugely popular event that avoids overcrowding by keeping the timing top-secret until a few hours before the event.

Carnaval is certainly one of the major reasons folk head to Rio, and rightly so since it’s quite literally the pounding heart of the city but, if you’re planning a visit at a different time of the year, you certainly won’t be stuck for things to do. June is a great time to escape the beaten track and head to Rio das Ostras, where you can enjoy a huge jazz and blues festival nestled between luscious mangrove forests and huge stretches of golden sand. September is

the month to visit if you’re a bit of a movie buff, with Festival Do Rio being one of the biggest film festivals in all of Latin America and many theatres hosting countless open air screenings. New Year acts as 'carnaval-part 2', with the costumes, parades and samba dancing back in action accompanied by a hugely impressive fireworks display and revelers who partying all the way to sunrise on January 1st.

No matter what time of year you visit, your holiday won’t be complete without a stroll along the world famous Copacabana Beach. Sunbathe, surf or simply people watch on this 4km-scalloped icon of Brazil as you sip

on deliciously fresh coconut water, straight from the shell. Another must do is a trip to Sugarloaf Mountain for a view of the city at its most disarming. Hop aboard a cable car and soar 395metres to the peak for a view so stunning you’ll be forgiven for thinking it’s not real. The gorgeous shorelines of Copacabana and Niteroi run alongside luscious green peaks and the whole canvas is figuratively peppered with parts of the city. It’s a visual you won’t forget in a hurry. From here, you can take a cog train through the Tijuca Rain Forest, an experience in itself, up to Rio’s infamous wonder of the world, Cristo Redentor. Over 60000 people flock here every year to take in the huge outstretched arms of the 40m tall protector of the city. Without a doubt, there’s so much going on in Rio that it’s impossible to get a true tale of the aptly nicknamed Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvelous City) in just one visit. But that’s part of the beauty of the place; you go there and you create your own story.

It’s a city of opposites; of rich and poor, of mountains and beaches, of hot and cold but, in many ways, it’s also a city of unification. Carnaval draws everyone together, reveling in the love of celebration, while the city’s beaches, free to all, host an eclectic mix of tourists and residents year round. Meanwhile, Cristo Redentor is a constant symbol of unity, towering above the city, palms outstretched, and forever catching a watchful eye over all who bask in Rio’s madness.

Oz the Great and Powerful is a fantastic family-fantasy adventure. When Oscar Diggs, a small-time magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from the dusty plains of Kansas to an enchanted land, he encounters a place filled with opportunity, wonder and three beautiful witches. The witches doubt his claims that he’s the Great Wizard everyone’s been expecting and it’s up to him to prove it by using his magic, ingenuity and a touch of wizardry to transform himself into the wizard and, just maybe, into a better man.

HOROSCOPES

Khaled Hosseini’s novel And the Mountains Echoed is a tale about Abdullah and his sister Pari who live with their poverty-stricken father and step-mother in the small village of Shadbagh, Afghanistan. One day the siblings journey across the desert to Kabul with their father with no sense of the fate that awaits them and the event is soon to tear their lives apart. With profound, wisdom, insight and compassion, Khaled explores the bonds that define and shape our lives; the ways that we help those in need and how the choices we make resonate through generations.

Pisces is the twelfth zodiac sign and those born under it are selfless, spiritual, and focused on their inner journeys. The most intuitive in the entire zodiac calendar, folks under this sign carry many of the characteristics of the eleven signs preceding it.

Pisceans are defined by their feelings and it's not uncommon for them to feel not only

their own burdens and joys but those of the ones they care about. Pisceans are often associated with dreams, fantasy and secrets as they are very comfortable in their own creation of an illusionary, care-free world.

The sign is symbolized by a pair of fish, representing their ‘go with the flow’ attitude. The

two fish also oppose one another, representing the dual personality of those born under Pisces who often have both yin and yang attributes.

Pisceans are compassionate and charitable, quick to put the needs of others ahead of their own wants. The flip side to their giving nature is that they run the risk of being taken advantage of by less well-meaning souls.

Pisceans are generally gentle, easy-going folk, who are a little on the shy side but who often excel in artistic feats such as painting or music. Many Pisceans immerse themselves in the arts and other creative pursuits as a sort of centering mechanism. They’re also pretty talented in the sporting world, with French racing driver Alain Prost and American Martial Art expert Chuck Norris sharing the Piscean sign.
