Stewardship
A Way of Life
Stewardship Reflection
In today’s Gospel reading, we are told the parable about the wheat and the weeds. This parable reminds us that the world is not perfect and that on Earth there will be good people and evil people. This parable should remind us to not get discouraged and lose faith when we hear of all the evil in the world.
Living Stewardship . . . Pillar of Hospitality
In today’s Responsorial Psalm, we praise God for being good and forgiving. We are also called to practice a good and forgiven nature. This week, pray for those who have hurt you and begin on the path of forgiveness.

Things to Note Before Coming to the Cathedral:
Arrival & Entry: Please enter the Cathedral through the doors on Quealy Place (except for those who need to use the handicap door).

Social Distancing: Please maintain a distance of 6 feet from others in the Cathedral and while entering and exiting. Please do not congregate
near the doors of the Cathedral after exiting. Seating: On weekends, please follow the directions of our special team of ushers who will assist you in finding a seat. On weekdays, please sit in open pews in marked spots while maintaining social distance. Capacity: We are allowed 50% occupancy (450 people) with every other pew open and six feet between people or households. Once we reach our occupancy limit, we will not be able to admit others. Your charity, cooperation and understanding are appreciated. Face Coverings: Masks must be worn in church. (except for children under the age of 2 or people with breathing difficulties) Please make
sure it covers your nose and mouth. Your cloth face covering may protect them. Their cloth face covering may protect you. Changes for Safety Reasons: There will be no entrance, offertory or recessional procession. Hymnals have been removed from the pews. The Sign of Peace as well as the ministering of the Precious Blood are suspended. Holy Water fonts remain empty; however, the Holy Water dispenser is available for those wishing to bring Holy Water home with them. Due to sanitary concerns, the bathrooms in the Cathedral are closed. Please plan accordingly. Holy Communion will be distributed at the conclusion of Mass. The priest will exit the sanctuary to remove his chasuble and will return to distribute communion. If you are not receiving communion we ask that you leave at this time. Those receiving will approach row by row (maintaining social distancing). It is preferred that Communion at this time be received in one’s hand. Please place your hand out very straight and flat to allow the priest or minister to place the Eucharist safely in your hand in order to avoid contact with your hand. Those who still wish to receive on the tongue are asked to open their mouth and extend their tongue so the host can be placed on it without the priest or minister’s hand making contact with the recipient. Whether receiving or not, please leave quietly and reverently through the door to which you are directed by an usher.

From the Diocesan
Pastoral Center (Main Offices of the Diocese of Rockville Centre)
As you are aware, the Pastoral Center offices were closed when the Governor issued an executive order for the closure of all non-essential businesses. The Executive Order has now been modified to allow a reopening of the Pastoral Center, but only at a reduced capacity and only under conditions and measures that are extremely challenging and very costly. Additionally, the staff from the Pastoral Center has been performing well during this time away from the office. Accordingly, the Pastoral Center is NOT REOPENING AT THIS TIME. We continue to review and work on an appropriate process for future reopening of the building and we will continue to monitor when the appropriate time to reopen will be. Currently it is anticipated that the building may not reopen until after Labor Day. Although the building is not reopening at this time, each and every Pastoral Center employee, through his and her work for the Diocese, is integral to promoting the mission of the Church and is engaged in the call to dramatic missionary growth of the Diocese. Visit www.drvc.org for listings of Diocesan Departments and Ministries and email contact information.

9 SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Dear Friends: Pope Francis likens the stone that sealed the tomb of Jesus to the tombstones of the pandemic that “threatens to bury all hope...” But he reminds us that “we are not alone, the Lord goes before us on our journey, and removes the stones that paralyze us. This is the hope that no one can take from us. The disciples of Jesus discovered something that we are now learning: No one is saved alone.” Support of the Catholic Ministries Appeal allows us to continue to serve so many in our community as you journey with us to bring hope to others. Through the Catholic Ministries Appeal we support the ministries that help us as we build up the Body of Christ, such as Pro-life efforts, formation of seminarians for the priesthood and Faith Formation and education of our children and young adults. We have been working together with our schools to assist the underserved to get much needed internet service so that children are able to continue their education and parents can work from home. It helps to support Catholic Charities and our Parish Outreach programs. Catholic Charities meets the needs of Long Island throughout the year, but during times of crisis they are on the front lines providing emergency services to those in need; expanding food programs and services for seniors who are isolated or homebound. Our Parish Outreach programs are working diligently to meet the needs of the growing demand of families reaching out to them for help. During this unique time, there are so many ways to bring hope to others. One way, if you are able, is to provide assistance by making a gift to the 2020 Catholic Ministries Appeal. Your continued support is critical at this time. We are so grateful for your generosity and commitment. Please know that you and your family are remembered in my daily prayer and Masses. Sincerely in Christ, Most Reverend John O. Barres Bishop of Rockville Centre
