PASTORAL REFLECTIONSNot long after coming to Trinity to serve as your pastor, I determined to hike from the front lawn of Trinity Baptist Church to the place of my birth in Kerrville. Step by step I wanted to connect God's current calling in my life to where my life began. My personal hike is now complete, and it was a rich and meaningful challenge.

As we often must do, I divided my goal into a manageable size. I reached my goal by hiking in the following 6 segments:

•As I hiked from Trinity's front lawn to Leon Springs, I thanked God for my calling to be your pastor and to serve in this region. I prayed for our growing work in America's 7th largest city.

•As I hiked from Dad's & Mother's gravesite in Boerne to Po Po Restaurant in Nelson City/Welfare, I thanked God for my hometown's influence.

•As I hiked from Po Po to High's Cafe in Comfort, I thanked God that even on a cold/drizzly day the Hill Country is beautiful. I reflected on how similar it looks to Galilee, the region in Israel where Jesus grew up and did 85% of his ministry.

•As I hiked from Comfort to Barn Burgers in Center Point, I thanked God for the ranch & farm land that is significant for our region, and remembered how Trinity envisioned His Hill.

•As I hiked from Center Point to Kerrville, I imagined the car ride Mother & Dad took from Boerne to the Sid Peterson

Hospital in downtown Kerrville. And I prayed for my family and our families.

If you know your geography, you have already realized that I have not yet listed my hike from Leon Springs to Boerne. That's the hike that got me started on this trek. During my college days, late one summer night after a date with Vicki I was returning to Boerne from her home in S.A. I hit a deer with my car and that 8 point buck killed my Plymouth Duster. So I walked from Leon Springs to Boerne in that era prior to cell phones. During that midnight hike I just prayed to get home alive. God answered that prayer, continued to prepare me, and I am grateful He has allowed me to serve Him as a pastor.

Several weeks ago on the Friday of Spring Break, I took my last of approximately 172,000 steps to connect the bookends of my life. As T.S. Eliot wrote, "We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time."

God's promises unfold as we follow the pathways we should pursue. I am grateful for how His promises have brought us together. From my hike, I feel renewed in His power. He is the promise maker and the promise keeper.

As an aside and because of my gratitude for the prayerful energy you give my family, I want to share the good news with you that on March 17th Ryan completed his Ph.D. in Urban Planning & Policy. It was a 7-year goal that he took one step at a time. Pastor Les

My Personal Hike

Through the course of my hike I thought of Jesus' call; "Come and follow Me and I will make you fishers of people". I was reminded of the importance to:

1) Focus on purpose. It is easier to keep putting one foot in front of the other by visualizing our purpose.2) Stay on course. With limited energy and time we can’t afford to get off course.3) Keep alert. Danger and opportunity can show up at any time. We need to stay aware of our surroundings while remaining open to surprises.4) Head in the right direction and keep on walking. In life, as in hiking, it is essential to make sure you are headed toward your desired destination. Then keep putting one foot in front of the other.

The purpose of a key is to “unlock”. God wants to help us unlock the meaning of our lives. He gives us the keys that unlock our purpose, our potential, and our power. The sermons in April from Luke chapter 24 will serve as a key to help us unlock our life in Christ’s resurrected presence.

SUNDAYS AT 10:45AM | TRIPOINT | 3233 N. ST. MARY'S Crossings is a contemporary worship service of Trinity Baptist Church

“SEEK”In January, we had our first “SOAK” worship night at Tripoint; it was a great time of worship and letting God speak as we sang, prayed and shared testimonies. We are going to have our second SOAK community worship night on Friday, April 17th. I hope you plan on spreading the word and hopefully joining us your-self !

We will have an extended musical and creative worship time in the setting of the Grantham Center at Tripoint. The goal is to seek God and to simply sing,

pray, praise, worship, adore and spend uninterrupted time in the arms of our Savior, letting Him love on us and speak to our hearts as we express our love to Him! This is a great event to come and bring your friends and neighbors to as well.

Praying With A Purpose

I have recently started praying in Trinity's prayer room and have taken this time to reflect on and pray about the work that God is doing here at Trinity. Of course, I also spend time praying over members requests, but I have found it to also be a good time to pray over our church and the purpose it serves in our community as well as around the world.

Many of you may be aware that beyond our Sunday and Wednesday services and Bible studies, we have several other things going on during the week that have become key areas of ministry here at Trinity. Some of these are not traditional or typical of churches of our size and background but they are ministries that developed through solid strategic thought and prayer. A few examples include a growing and thriving Parents Day Out for parents of preschoolers each Tuesday and Thursday. In addition, The Great Hearts Charter School, a Great Books School, holds classes in the education building and will be expanding next year from the first to the second floor. Logsdon Seminary, affiliated with Hardin-Simmons University, meets in the education building during the week and has grown to over 30 seminary students with plans to expand over the

next couple of years. The TriPoint campus has become a popular events center attracting large events and conferences from all over the country and is continuing to see continued interest from large and small organizations alike. As mentioned above, these activities are not typical but they are good for the church and for our community.

As we continue into the 21st century, God has provided us with opportunities that we would have never have dreamed up. As good stewards of God’s resources, we have multiple platforms to reach out beyond our typical services to influence our community and our nation in a positive and God honoring way. As a church we pray for wisdom and discernment as we develop community relationships as well as partnerships that further God's Kingdom.

We all know God works in mysterious and wonderful ways, so please join me as we are shown opportunities, like the ones listed above, in 2015 and beyond to develop God honoring partnerships that are closely tied to the mission and vision God has given Trinity Baptist Church.

A few weeks ago, my husband and I were honored to attend the Nation Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C. There were many speakers, politicians, musicians, a race care driver, a professional boxer and a Harlem Globetrotter. All of these speakers spoke of God’s redemptive power and love in their lives.

As they shared their transforming stories, one common theme was the troubled childhoods these individuals had experienced. As I listened, I was reminded of the blessing Godly parents are to children.

As parents, God has given us an amazing responsibility and opportunity to spiritually guideour children.

“No one has more potential to influence your child than you… Teachers, pastors and coaches will never have as much potential to influence a child’s character, self-esteem, perspectives, or faith as a parent does.

Teachers, pastors or coaches will have an influence that is temporary. It will come and go during different stages of your child’s life. Your influence as a parent will be permanent.” (Joiner & Nieuwholf)

Take advantage of this precious time as a parent by:1. Praying for your children2. Living out His word at home 3. Connecting with a church community that will partner spiritual discipleship with you.

More importantly than anything I leave my children, is that I leave them a legacy of faith in Jesus Christ.

“Start children off on the way they should go and even when they are old they

will not turn from it” Proverbs 22:6

Spring is an exciting time!! Trees are leafing, flowers are blooming and there is plenty of sunshine!! All our PDO children and teachers have been on Spring Break the week of March 10th, and we are excited to be back at school. We have several activities planned for the next couple of months of the remaining school year. One is our annual Easter bonnet parade through the building and many Spring/Easter activities to do and crafts to make and take home to Mom and Dad.

PDO has added a new and vital addition to our teaching staff. Mr. Mel Pankey. Mel came to me several months ago and expressed a desire to volun-teer as a teacher in our Parents Day Out program. He loves the little ones, and he has proven to be a wonderful asset. The children love Mel, too, espe-cially the boys, and he brings to the program a “grandpa” feel that is heartwarming. Thank you, Mel, for allowing God to use you and allowing us to be blessed by your service.

Continue to pray for our Parents Day Out program. Pray for growth and that God will use us as teachers and me as the director to positively affect each young family we minister to.

Blessings,Kay Polanco

Coloring Outside the Lines

“There seems to be a belief that once someone makes the initial connection with Jesus Christ, he [or she] has arrived. Immediately, a watertight box of solutions is handed to him [or her]. No more questions need to be asked—Jesus is the answer! Everything is now explained; there is nothing left to search for. This view is built on a need for precision and perfection, which has always been an enemy of art, which is all about coloring outside the lines. It is also an enemy of the reality that following Jesus is a journey, not an arrival.”

- Steve Stockman

I was never very good at coloring within the lines. I hope my parents haven’t kept any of my report cards from elementary art. I remember learning about different artists and types of art in school. It became very clear to me that what was coming out of my hands with pastel crayons and papier-mache was nothing in league with Michelangelo or Leonardo. In fact, I quickly became convinced I had a greater likelihood of becoming a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, than of following in the footsteps of the artists for which they were named.

I would look at the awe-inspiring dragons some of my classmates created, and I would find myself filled with a combination of envy, frustration, admiration, and defeat. I told myself some people are artists and some people are not. If my artistic ‘winged-dog with scales’ was any indication, then I was not an artist.

I meet many young adults who feel like they’ve received a similar message about faith and the Way of Jesus. They may have gone through confirmation classes, been a shepherd in The Nativity pageant, or walked an aisle at summer youth camp, but somewhere along their journey it seemed like the faith they were exposed to and the life they were living were miles apart.

For many, the easy-answers, clear formulas, ‘bumper sticker theology,’ and upbeat Christian pop lyrics have a widening gap from their fragile, questioning, broken, and diverse world in which they find themselves. In my own life, there came a moment when I realized that if I was going to continue following Jesus, I needed a Savior who calls people who colors outside of the lines.

My life was and is messy. Jesus invites each of us to follow after him on a journey that is wild, unpredictable, and life-shaping. We don’t have to start off with all the answers or a perfect life. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus’ disciples are shown to be wavering, forgetful, anxious, and slow to learn. The only thing they seem to have going for them is that they are going with Jesus. I fit right in with a crew like that. Let’s invite others into a faith that makes room for those who color outside of the lines.

Christopher Mack, Minister of Young Adults

I recently enjoyed reading a number of inspirational quotes. After initially feeling “inspired,” the words sunk a bit deeper, and I began to recognize their challenge. What if a great quote is ultimately only as good as its impact on our lives? Let me share some of these quotes with you and see what you think might be the measure of a great quote. I pray they might begin to penetrate your lives.

You can't start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one. (J. Pollock Jr.)

Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. (Carl Bard)

The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour

are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single

moment in all your life. (Arnold Bennett)

We all have that tension between looking back in our lives to remember, to understand, and to be grateful for what has been, while fully living each day in the present and staying open to the future. However, we do not have to get stuck in the past or worry about time we have misspent or wasted. In fact, if we do that, we are continuing to waste time in the present and possibly carrying that waste into the future. The good news is that we can learn from our mistakes and begin to spend our time well! I pray that you and I will embrace each new day as a fresh beginning and joyfully help create our future – whatever our age and circumstances.

The most important thing to remember is this: To be ready at any moment to give up what you are,

for what you might become. (W. E. B. Du Bois)

Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is more people who have come alive. (Howard Thurman)

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away;

Behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

The most conclusive proof for the resurrection of Jesus Christ is that He is living within believers

today in all of His resurrected life and transforming power. (Bill Bright)

Letting go of what has become familiar is not an easy task. However, God has something more for each of us; whether it is letting Him into our lives for the very first time, trusting Him with areas of our life that we have secretly held in reserve, or going all the way and allowing Him to fully transform our lives without restraint.

The day the Lord created hope was probably the same day he created Spring. (Bern Williams)

Every day now I am seeing new signs of rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, regrowth, and resurrection. It is that time of year. We are in this together and have so much reason to be grateful and to hope. I pray that each day as you experience the joy of springtime, you will claim the personal opportunity for a fresh beginning and allow Christ to be alive in you.

In His Love, Vicki

Stewardship and Renewal I don't know about you, but my yard is a mess. There are weeds, leaves and various items that the dogs have "found" all winter long strewn everywhere. It is a pretty bleak scene, but frankly it has not mattered since winter kept me inside for the last few months. However, things are turning around. Within the last week the weather has turned warmer, I can smell the mountain laurels blooming, and the days are getting longer. It is with this new spirit of renewal we have begun to get things in shape in our yard, and it has also made me think about renewal in other areas of my life.

Spiritual renewal is one of the jumps to the front of the list, especially with Easter fast approaching. This renewal begins with me taking an inventory of what I am doing to become closer with God. Am I praying enough? Am I reading His word daily? Am I serving? Am I tithing? Like cleaning up the yard, tithing is one of those things where we can really

see the results. It is a sign that we have our financial house in order, and it is also a way that we can support the many ministries of the church. We started the year strong, and we need to maintain the momentum through the year.

Even though I have neglected my yard for the last several months, God is still bringing it back to life. He really does not need me to do anything, but how much better it will look if I participate in this miracle. The same can be said for what is happening here at Trinity. He is bringing renewal to my yard; He is bringing renewal through His Son with Easter, and He is bringing renewal to Trinity. I would encourage you to think about how you can "get your hands dirty" here at Trinity and help grow this church into what God wants it to be.

LIVING LEGEND

Charles Prewitt announced his engagement to Martha Foster at a Valentine Banquet at First Baptist Church, San Antonio. They married a few months later and their life’s work has been providing ministry and healing to a hurting population.

Charles, from Ponca City OK, was a sophomore at Oklahoma Baptist University in 1950. With a draft notice in the mail, he joined the Air Force and was sent to Lackland AFB for basic training. There was a need for medical personnel that winter of 1951, and all new recruits who had two years of college were trained as medics. Charles stayed at Lackland for three years and was discharged.

Martha was born in Mexia, TX and grew up in Premont TX. After graduating from high school, she came to San Antonio to attend nursing school at Baptist Memorial Hospital. She received her RN degree in 1952 and accepted a job at the Robert B. Green TB Clinic.

After their wedding in September 1952, Charles and Martha moved to Abilene where he graduated from Hardin Simmons University with a B.A. in psychol-ogy. He later attended Southwestern Seminary where he earned a degree in psychology and counseling and a Master of Divinity in Theology. Charles accepted a call to Trinity Baptist in El Reno, OK and served as the minister for three years. Later, he was a minister at Maysville, OK First Baptist.

He joined the Air Force again in the early 1960’s as a chaplain. His assignments included Kirtland AFB NM, McConnell AFB KS, Torrejon AB Spain, McCoy AFB FL, one year in Viet Nam, and an AFIT assign-ment to Claremont School of Theology where he received a Doctor of Ministry in pastoral care and counseling. His last assignments were chaplain at the Air Force University in Montgomery, AL and chief, permanent party chaplain at Lackland where he retired in 1980.

Martha practiced nursing until Charles finished college and seminary. She worked in psychiatric hospitals in CA, AL and at Villa Rosa in San Antonio, as well the UTSA Student Health Center.

After Charles retired, he did pastoral counseling and marriage and family therapy in the Department of Religion at the Baptist Hospital. Sometime later, he established a private practice with Clint and Pam Dunagan in San Antonio. Martha became qualified as a massage therapist and practiced at the same location.

Martha and Charles have six children: Kathy Thayer, Nowata OK; Karen Prewitt, Darleen Kay Park, Kimi Lee Bailey and Keri Demmaree, all in San Antonio and Kip Duvall, Dripping Springs. They also have 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

The entire Prewitt family enjoyed camping during their assignments in Europe. They outfitted a VW bus with everything needed for camping and, in three summers, camped from Madrid to Rome to Portugal with six children, ages 7-16.

Charles and Martha were also avid tennis players and played in tournaments in various countries where they were assigned and 27 years into retirement.

When asked for a statement on love, Charles gave this. “We have been married 62 years. For us love is countless cycles and seasons of high hopes and low disappointments, of wandering along paths of spir-itual and psychic unconsciousness to find on the other side God’s clear unconditional and unchanging love: the very Source of love, of walking together through several ‘valleys of the shadow of death’ and many, many mountain top sunrises of birth and life, and arriving at a place where we see there is no better place than here and now—always.”

COLOSSIANS 4:2

TRINITY

“He is risen!” “He is risen indeed!”“Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!”“He lives, He lives . . . He lives within my heart!”“He is not here; he has risen, just as he said….”

Matthew 28:6.

As we prepare to celebrate the glorious resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, may we be prayerful about each event during the Holy Week.

April 1 – Servant Washing of Feet in TBC dining room 6:00 p.m. – (John 13:4-5)April 2 – Maundy Thursday – Worship in Sanctuary 7:00 p.m. – Behold the Lamb, Trinity Chorale and Orchestra – Communion will be celebrated - (Matthew 26:26-29)April 3 – Good Friday Worship – 12:00 p.m. TriPoint Grantham Center – (John 19:30)April 5 – Easter Worship and Bible Study (Matthew 28:1-20)

May we invite friends, neighbors, and those who might not know the Living Lord to attend one or all of these special worship services. May there be many who make decisions to follow Christ and experience His presence and power. May we, who are familiar with this last week of Jesus’ life, rededicate our commitment to follow and serve Him each day. (John 14:27)

Pray for Ladies’ Ministry event, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, the week of April 6. May there be partici-pation by new ladies who have never attended – may they be welcomed and make new friends. Pray for those who have attended in the past, that they commit once again to be part of these special evenings. Pray for the planning of each one. (Philippians 4:8)

Pray for the Men’s Ministry breakfast on Saturday, April 11. It will be held at TriPoint in the Grantham Center at 8:00 a.m. Mark Pfeier, Ph.D. will be the guest speaker. Pray our men will invite guests from their workplace as well as other friends. Pray it will be well-attended, with blessings for each one. (Philippians 2:1-2)

Pray for the Missions Team and especially Denise and Brad Bruchmiller as they host Gantigmaa Ganbold, her mother, and an interpreter from Mongolia. This 6-year-old girl will receive a life-saving heart surgery at University Hospital. Pray for all those involved in the surgery, her surgeons, caregivers, and everyone who attends to her. Pray she, her mother, and the interpreter will feel the love of Christ through all that host and give them care. (Matthew 18:5)

Pray for TBC National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 7 at TriPoint, jointly sponsored by YMCA of Greater San Antonio and Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio. Pray for our featured speakers: Mayor Ivy Taylor, Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, and Rabbi Mara Nathan of Temple Bethel. Pray for wide community involvement and attendance. Pray God will use this breakfast to foster connections and bring unity to diverse areas of our city. Pray God will be gloried in all that is said and done. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
