While the world’s attention has beenfocused on Syria and the refugee crisisit spawned over the past year, therehas been woefully little news aboutthe “other” refugee crisis–going on inUkraine.

Almost TWO MILLION people have beendisplaced by the war in Eastern Ukrainebetween Pro-Russian separatists and thecountry of Ukraine.

They’ve been uprooted from their homesand jobs, forced to flee because of awar in their own backyard, into anuncertain future, with little hope butplenty of heartbreak and despair.

Surprisingly, thousands of people arestill living in war zones. They have no

place to go, are without jobs, medicalservices, and precious little food andsupplies for daily living.

Although a cease-fire technically existsbetween the Ukrainian governmentand the rebels, it is a fragile one at best.

Tensions are high as skirmishes andshelling continues. Soldiers are dyingeach day. People’s homes and apart-ments are regularly hit by shelling.

Sadly, all the victims of this tragedyhave received very little support orattention from the international mediaor their own government.

How is HART involved and HOW CANYOU HELP?

Through our network of local Churchpartners around the country, we’reable to provide thousands of Ukraine’srefugees and those living in war zoneswith the basic necessities of life– food, clothing, shelter and medicines.

By supporting our REFUGEE AID FUND,you are providing HOPE for families over-come by despair and a sense of helpless-ness. Your generosity will remind themGod loves and cares for them.

For $25 you can provide a large foodhamper to help a family or a lonelyold pensioner survive in these difficulttimes. May God richly bless you.

REHABILITATION CENTRE FOR THE PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED

Agape HouseOn June 25th, HART had the privilege of participating in theGrand Opening of the AGAPE HOUSE rehabilitation centerin the city of Lutsk (Western Ukraine).

This one-of-a-kind facility in Ukraine has a three-foldpurpose. 1) It’s a rehabilitation center for those withdisabilities including veterans from the current war withRussia. 2) It will serve as a training center for those work-ing with the handicapped all over Ukraine. 3) As a Christian-runfacility its purpose it to extend God’s love to those with disabilitiesand their families.

This project was almost exclusively funded by HART supporters inNorth America. THANKS to all of you who caught the vision of thisproject and generously supported!!

“For several years, the Lord has been assisting us in the constructionof the Agape Rehabilitation Complex, making the dream of manypeople with disabilities come true in Ukraine. Thank you for join-ing us on this path and becoming a great blessing and support.Because of your open and sacrificial hearts this dream has becomea reality.” Sergey Bolchuk (Director & Founder of Agape House).

TOYS THAT BRING JOY TO KIDS IN WAR ZONES

From the Calgary Stampede With LoveMany people attending the CalgaryStampede who win stuffed animalselect not to take them home andinstead deposit them in bins locatedon the grounds.

HART has been given the exclusive tocollect these. We have great volunteerslike Jordyn and Evica helping us.

In the past two years many Stampedetoys have been sent to HART’s Churchpartners assisting people living near thefront lines of the war in Eastern Ukraine, where the shelling goes on almost daily.

One pastor shared a compelling storyabout his ministry with people in thesewar zones.

"They walk around like zombies–eventhe children. There is no life in theireyes; only shock and fear.

As for the adults, when I hug them, pray for them and give them some

food products, only then do I see a bitof joy and relief.

But the children are even more amazing. When I bless one of them with a soft toy,I witness a miraculous transformation.

Their gaunt, weary eyes suddenly exhibita twinkle–then a slow smile will crosstheir faces. Even color returns to theircheeks! It is simply miraculous!!

Thanks to all the people in Calgarywho donate stuffed animals forHART to send to us here in Ukraine!"

They are taken to HART’s office, boxedup, shipped to Ukraine and shared withunderprivileged children.

ESL Mission Trip ReportWe were a team ofeight men thatheaded for EasternEurope. Billed as aFather and Sontrip—we left withwonderment—andreally no idea ofwhat to expect.

Our first week was spent teaching Englishto about 150 students from all walks oflife. We were amazed at how eager thestudents were to learn—and at howquickly our team bonded with them.

It would be hard to overstate theimpact we had on them—and hard tooverstate the impact they had on us.

The second week was spend visitingvarious HART projects and doing gooddeeds in those projects.

Chopping firewood for elderlyUkrainian grandmothers—feedingGypsy children in their ghettoswere just some of our activities.

It was not so much what we con-tributed that was so powerful—but what we learned. The young men onour team were profoundly impactedby the need they saw—and impactedby what they learned was the mosteffective way to meet these needs.

The dads were impacted by thegrowth they saw in their sons—and inprivate and personal moments—wouldadmit they were impacted by thegrowth they saw in their own hearts.

To a man, we were so impressed withthe national Ukrainian Christians andpastors.

We were awed by their dedication, tire-less effort, and the effectiveness bywhich they reached their fellow countrymen. It was powerful for us to see this.

One team member—in summarizinghis experience said he felt “washed bythe Holy Spirit.”

There was a strong desire to go backnext year…but now is still the time toprocess the deep things that happenedto us in our souls because of this trip.Respectfully, Pastor Warren WiebeCentre Street Church, Calgary
