HD Sports camera : The camera unit.

Battery: Lithium Ion battery.

TFT LCD screen: A portable LCD screen that attaches to the main unit. This lets you review your action on location as well as adjust settings in the OPTIONS menu.

Bracket: The camera slides on to this mount and is then secured using the bolt at the bottom.

Adhesive mounts: These mounts have a strong adhesive which will mount to most surfaces and provide a permanent bond.

Single joint mount: This is a joint with a single axis that can be adjusted. The photo shows the joint clipped onto a mount.

Double (L-type) helmet joint: This has two axes of movement giving you great flexibility to position the camera to catch all the action. The photo shows the joint clipped onto a mount.

USB cable: The USB cable plugs into the Mini-USB port on the side of your Sports camera and the other end plugs into any standard USB 2.0 port on your computer. The camera is able to recharge as well as transfer data file through this connection.

Power Adaptor: For recharging the camera using mains power.

AV (composite) cable: This provides connection between the camera and most standard TV’s and monitors via a composite signal. Composite signals are good quality video and audio.

Waterproof case: This case provides a waterproof cocoon to protect the camera from getting wet during activities like snowsports or watersports.

Pouch: To protect your camera during storage or transit.

Wrist strap: The wrist strap loops through the lanyard hole in the corner of the camera so you can loop it around your wrist in case you lose your grip on the camera.

Remote control: Used to remotely trigger features of the camera.

OPERATING the HD Sports cameraHere’s a quick primer on how to start using your camera immediately.

When you first turn on the camera, it defaults to live ‘preview’ mode. The camera is on and ready to shoot VIDEO or take photo SNAPSHOTS. If the LCD screen attachment is fitted (see “Attaching/removing the LCD screen” on page 16), you can see a live preview of what the camera can see. If connected to an external TV or monitor (see “Playback and Live viewing” on page 27), you can also view a live preview on the external device. The live preview on the LCD attachment will turn off when viewing on an external device.

To record video• Turn on the camera by sliding the switch to on and wait for it to start-up. When

ready, it will be in preview mode.

• The camera will power-on into VIDEO mode by default. The default video resolution is 1080p.

• To START RECORDING, press the RECORD button. The camera will beep once and the green recording light (top/back of camera) and the red recording light (front of camera) will begin flashing.

• To STOP recording, press the RECORD button. The camera will beep twice, the green and red recording lights will stop flashing and the camera will return to preview mode.

WARNING: Make sure you have not turned on the laser (see “Camcorder menu” on page 21). Pointing the laser into the eyes can cause injury or harm. DO NOT POINT THE LASER INTO ANYONES EYES!

The camera will also stop recording automatically when the micro-SD card is full or the battery runs out of power.

To take photos (SNAPSHOTS)• Turn on the camera by sliding the switch to on and wait for it to start-up. When

ready, it will be in preview mode.

• The camera will power-on into VIDEO preview mode by default.

• To take photos, press the SNAPSHOT button. A shutter sound will be heard when the photo is taken and the camera will then return to preview mode. The default photo resolution is 5M (5 megapixel / 2560 x 1920).

• To change the settings for photos, see “OPTIONS MENUS” on page 20.

To record audioThe HD Sports camera can be set to record only audio in those situations where there is nothing worthy of recording to video.

Audio record is an alternative to video record so one or the other needs to be selected in the CAMCORDER menu (see “Camcorder menu” on page 21).

Once the camera is in AUDIO record mode, recording is operated in the same way as video. Press the RECORD button to begin recording and press it again to stop recording.

When voice recording, the camera only responds to the RECORD button, shutdown or by flicking the VOX switch.

Note: If you turn on VOX while recording audio, the voice recording will stop and the camera will save the data to the storage card.

VOX recordingWhen switched to ON, the VOX recording switch triggers recording when the camera detects a sound above 65db. The POWER switch needs to also be on for the VOX switch to have any effect.

• In preview mode with VOX on, if the camera fails to detect a sound above 65db during the period set in the AUTO Standby time set in the SETUP menu (see “Setup menu” on page 24), the camera will go into standby mode.

• In recording mode with VOX on, if the camera fails to detect a sound above 65db for over 2 minutes, the camera will stop recording and return to preview mode. The camera assumes that 2 continuous minutes of sound below the 65db threshold means there is nothing else of interest to record. If you want to record anyway, you will need to make a sound louder than 65db (speaking near the unit will usually do this) or turn VOX off and manually start recording using the RECORD button.

Micro-SD slot This is the micro-SD slot where you insert your micro-SD storage card to store the photos and video the camera captures.

Mini-USB port The mini-USB port. You can use this port to connect the camera to a mains power outlet for charging (using the supplied USB to power adaptor) or for transferring files to your computer (using the USB cable provided).

Lanyard hole Use this to thread through the strap provided or a lanyard for carrying the camera around a wrist or neck.

LCD screen This displays the image the camera can see.It can also display the OPTIONS menu for easy adjustment.

M (Menu) button Pressing this brings up the MENU system allowing you to adjust OPTIONS for the CAMCORDER mode, CAMERA mode and SYSTEM.

The removable/rechargeable Lithium Ion batteryHow to install the removable Li-On (Lithium-Ion) batteryThe HD Sports camera comes with a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery. With proper care, this battery should be able to be recharged many hundreds of times before needing replacement.

The battery needs to be installed in the HD Sports before you can use it.

1. Make sure the LCD screen is not attached to the camera (see “Attaching/removing the LCD screen” on page 16).

2. Press down on the three ridges shown in the picture with your thumb and slide the battery cover downward to remove it.

3. Lower the right side of the battery marked (-) first into the battery compartment, ensuring the gold contacts on the underside of the battery match the gold contacts inside the battery compartment. The battery compartment has a lip around the edge which holds the battery in place. Make sure you place the battery under this lip when positioning it.

4. When the battery is aligned with the contact and seated under the lip, you can now press the left side of the battery to push it into place.

5. Replace the battery cover by sliding it back into position until it clicks.

This red indicator flashes slowly when the unit is recording VIDEO.

It flashes once when a SNAPSHOT is taken.

Laser transmitter When activated, this is where the laser is emitted which can help pinpoint what the camera lens is seeing without the need for live viewing on the LCD screen attachment or external TV or monitor.The laser pointer only fires when the unit is recording VIDEO and switches off when recording is stopped.See Laser Sync under “Camcorder menu” on page 21 for more information.WARNING: Do not look into the laser or shine it near eyes as it could cause damage to the eyes.

AV OUT This port provides a composite output for connection to an external TV or monitor. The yellow (RCA) plug should be connected to the video input on a TV or monitor. The other two plugs are the left/right stereo pair for the audio output.

HDMI HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. It’s the latest technology for transferring uncompressed digital data such as the video and audio from your HD Sports to an external device like a TV or monitor.HDMI carries both the video and audio in one small cable and retains the quality of the footage captured.

To watch your footage on an external TV or monitor, connect the HD Sports to an external TV or monitor using an HDMI cable. Note: The camera requires a smaller than normal mini-HDMI connector. Most monitor devices have a standard sized HDMI connector.

Screw mount A standard screw thread used to attach the mounts/joint which come with the HD Sports camera. This is a standard mount so can be used with most photographic tripods.

Removing the Li-On (Lithium-Ion) batteryThe battery is made to fit snugly into the battery compartment to prevent movement during activity.

To remove it, slide the battery compartment off.

Lever the battery out by sliding a fingernail under the tab on the left side of the battery.

Charging the batteryWe recommend you fully charge the HD Sports camera before you use it for the first time using the included power cable to ensure uninterrupted charging of the battery.

• Connect the USB connector on the end of the power supply to the mini-USB port on the HD Sports. The port is located under the strip on the right side of the camera. This strip can be moved out of position using a fingernail in the notch to lift the strip and move it out of the way.

You can also charge the camera from your computer using the supplied USB cable. Only connect the camera to a compliant USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 port.

• Connect the mini-USB plug to the mini-USB port on the camera and plug the other end into a mains power outlet.

The red RECHARGE light will flash red while charging. It will stop flashing and glow red constantly when charging is complete. We recommend you wait until it is finished before removing the camera from charge.

Charging takes about 3.5 to 4 hours.

Note: When charging, all controls are disabled.

Low BatteryIf the battery power gets low during recording, the system will stop recording and save the current file to storage. It will also display a “Low Battery” warning message on the LCD screen.

Caring for the batteryIf you aren’t going to use the HD Sports for a while, we recommend you still charge it every couple of months to keep the battery healthy.

Micro-SD StorageInstalling a micro-SD storage cardHigh definition video records a lot of detail and this detail needs to be stored. When recording to your micro-SD card, not only does this data take up a lot of space, but there is lots of it to record quickly. Therefore, we recommend you use a micro-SD card with lots of space if you are planning on recording for longer periods (see “Camcorder menu” on page 21 for information on recording times possible). A 2GB card will give you about 40 minutes of 1080p video recording. In order for the data to be recorded quickly, we also recommend you choose a high-speed card. These cards are fast and made for saving huge amounts of information quickly.

To install your micro-SD card, use a fingernail in the notch to lift up the strip marked “micro-SD/mini-USB” and move it up and out of the way to reveal the two ports.

Insert the micro-SD with the metal contacts facing the back (the jagged edge of the card should be at the bottom).

• If the camera runs out of storage space while recording, it will display “Insufficient space” on the LCD screen, stop recording and save the current file to the storage card. It will then return to PREVIEW mode.

Formatting a micro-SD storage cardFor the best possible results, we recommend you install the card into the HD Sports camera and format it from the OPTIONS menu (using the LCD screen attachment).

Note: The HD Sports camera has a small amount of internal memory that can also be formatted if there is no micro-SD card installed.

Attaching/removing the LCD screenThe HD Sports camera comes with a handy LCD screen attachment that you can mount on the camera. The LCD screen allows you to :

• view a live feed from the camera so you can see what the camera sees and what you are shooting

• navigate the OPTIONS menu and adjust settings

• playback video and view photos on the LCD screen to review what you have shot without the need to connect to a computer or external TV or monitor.

To attach the LCD screen• Make sure the LCD screen is oriented the correct way. The screen should be on

the left and the buttons on the right, as shown in the picture. The screen only attaches ONE WAY.

• Align the connector on the LCD screen with the socket on the camera and seat it inside, making sure it fits properly.

• When it is seated correctly, push both ends of the LCD attachment in towards the camera to make sure the pin connector on the left clicks into place and the plastic tab operated by the PUSH button on the right clicks into place as well.

The LCD screenThe attachable LCD screen provides even more information when connected to the rear of the camera. It also gives you access to the OPTIONS menu where you can adjust many of the parameters on the camera.

Record Mode: The current record mode is shown in the top left corner. indicates VIDEO mode and indicates VOICE mode. When laser sync is selected, a laser icon appears instead.

Battery power indicator: The battery power icon is shown in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Resolution: This shows the current VIDEO recording resolution that the camera will use when you press RECORD. This resolution is set in the OPTIONS and can be 1080P, 720P, WVGA or QVGA.

Storage card capacity indicator: The micro-SD card capacity icon is in the lower right corner of the screen and indicates the space left on your storage card.

Note: The buttons on the LCD screen cannot wake the camera from standby (see “Setup menu” on page 24). You need to press the RECORD or

SNAPSHOT button.

Setting the Date and TimeThe last step in getting off and running with your HD Sports camera is to set the date and time. This is important if time stamping is turned on in the options (see “Setup menu” on page 24 for how to do this).

Time stamping records the date and time onto the VIDEOS and PHOTOS you take with the HD Sports. If these are not set correctly for your area, the wrong date and time will be recorded onto your VIDEOS and PHOTOS.

The HD Sports camera is so feature packed, it comes with two LCD displays. We call the one built into the top of the unit the LCD display and the one which attaches to the rear of the unit the LCD screen.

Unlike the LCD screen which can be removed, the LCD display is always there to provide you with important information on the state of the camera. Let’s have a look at the information it provides.

Battery power indicator: The battery power icon is shown in the bottom left corner of the screen. Black grids indicate the remaining power. The battery power indicator is not shown when the camera is in standby or shut down.

Record Mode: The current record mode is shown in the top left corner. indicates VIDEO mode and indicates VOICE mode. When laser sync is selected, a laser icon appears instead.

Snapshot icon: The SNAPSHOT icon flashes briefly when a SNAPSHOT is taken.

Power icon: The power icon displays when the camera is ON. When it is no longer visible, the camera has either gone into standby or shut down.

Storage card capacity indicator: Like the battery indicator, more black grids mean more space left on your card. Less black grids mean you are running low on space and should swap cards or copy off the data to a PC. The green indicator light on the left will also glow when the card is full.

Video recording duration: When recording AUDIO or VIDEO, the elapsed time of the recording is shown in the middle of the screen in the format 000:00. The same duration information is viewable on the LCD screen at the same time.

USB connection: The USB icon is shown on the screen when the camera is connected and recognized by a PC. When connected, the green indicator light on the left flashes slowly.

OPTIONS MENUSYou can use the OPTIONS menu to change many of the parameters for VIDEO, PHOTOS and SYSTEM functions.

To see and use the OPTIONS menu, you need to have the LCD attached since it has the buttons you use to navigate your way around. You can use the LCD attachment to view the OPTIONS or you can view them on an external TV or monitor if connected(see “Playback and Live viewing” on page 27).

NavigationThe following tables detail the parameters you can change and what they mean.

To navigate the menus and change parameters:

Press the “M” (MENU) button to bring up the menu. There are three main sections indicated by the three icons in the top right of the screen.

CAMCORDER: for settings related to video

CAMERA: for settings related to photos

SETUP: for settings related to the system-wide operation of the unit

To adjust a setting:

• Attach the rear LCD screen (see “Attaching/removing the LCD screen” on page 16)

• Turn on the unit

• Press the M (MENU) button on the LCD screen attachment

• Use the < or > button to move left or right across the three main settings. The icon setting that is currently able to be edited is colored red, the other two will be green. Move left or right until the icon (top right) representing the menu you want to edit is highlighted red and the relevant description is shown in the top left.

• Use the + or - buttons to move up or down to the selection you want to edit.

• Press the OK button to enter editing mode for that feature/option.

• Use the < or > button to move to the value you want to select for that feature.

• Press the OK button to select and save that feature.

• If you enter editing mode and want to cancel without making a selection, just press the MENU button once to go back to the MENU list.

Resolution Sets the VIDEO resolution.

1080p 1920*1080 resolution.On a full charge, the camera will record up to 2.5 hours in this resolution.

720p 1280*720 resolution.On a full charge, the camera will record up to 2.5 hours in this resolution.

WVGA 848*480 resolution.On a full charge, the camera will record up to 3 hours in this reoslution.

QVGA 320*240 resolution.On a full charge, the camera will record up to 3.5 hours in this resolution.

Laser Sync Turns off the laser pointing function.

Activates the laser pointer. When the laser is switched on from this menu, a laser icon replaces the VIDEO or AUDIO recording icon in the top left of the LCD screen. This icon does not appear if the laser is manually switched on.

The laser light can also be turned on and off by long pressing (for about 3 seconds) the RECORD button on the camera or the SNAPSHOT button on the remote control (see “The Remote Control” on page 33). Activating the laser in this way does not affect the setting you have selected here.

The laser pointer fires a red laser from the front of the unit which can be bounced off walls and other surfaces. It is useful for pinpointing where the lens is looking and therefore what it is likely to record when shooting VIDEO or a SNAPSHOT without the need for the LCD screen to preview the image.

WARNING: Do not look into the laser or shine it near eyes as it could cause damage to the eyes.

Capture Mode VOICErecordingmode

Captures AUDIO only when recording using the VIDEO record button. This saves micro-SD space by not recording VIDEO when you only want to capture sound.On a full charge, the camera will record up to 3.5 hours of audio.

Single Shot Takes a single picture each time the SNAPSHOT button is pressed.

Treble Shot Takes three PHOTOS in quick succession each time the SNAPSHOT button is pressed.

Continuous This setting activates and sets the delay between continuous time-lapse PHOTOS.

A / 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 / 20 / 30 / 60

When set to A there is no effect and PHOTOS are only taken when you press the SNAPSHOT button.

Selecting a value from 2 seconds to 60 seconds sets a delay timer. Once the SNAPSHOT button is pressed, a timer on the LCD screen will count up to the set number of seconds and then take a PHOTO. The timer will then restart. This cycle will continue until you press the SNAPSHOT button again, the micro-SD card is full, the power runs our or you turn off the camera.

Continuous is useful for automatically taking time-lapse photographs of a scene.

Self Timer Sets the self-timer delay between pressing the SNAPSHOT button and the camera taking the photo.This is useful for setting up a shot and then delaying the photo being taken until you have time to get in the shot.Once the photo is taken or power is turned off, the system reverts back to “0” setting (SINGLE SHOT mode).

0 Self-Timer is off. Photos are taken immediately when SNAPSHOT button is pressed.

5 / 10 5 or 10 second time delay. Photos are taken five or ten seconds after SNAPSHOT button is pressed.

Resolution Sets the image resolution of the PHOTOS.

3M 3M (megapixel) = 2048 x 1536

Beep A short beep sound is heard each time a button is pressed to indicate that the button press has been successful.

Turns OFF the beep sound each time you press a buttonNote: This only turns off the beep sound when pressing a button. It does not turn off the sound made when VIDEO recording is started/stopped or a SNAPSHOT is taken.

Time Display Imprints/stamps the Time and Date into a video or onto a photo.This makes it easy to identify the time date a VIDEO or PHOTO was taken. Once stamped onto an image however, it cannot be removed.

Loop Record This sets the length of the AUDIO or VIDEO file segment that will be saved to 15 minutes. Smaller segments make viewing and editing easier and reduce the risk of missing any footage due to power loss.

Note: The actual length is actually dictated by the file size. Therefore, the length of the file may vary slightly where less detail is being recorded (such as a dark environment).

In 1080p resolution, the storage size of files will be about 650MB.In 720p resolution, the storage size of the files will be about 600MB.

Turns loop record OFF. The AUDIO or VIDEO will be saved in 30 minute lengths.

Turns loop record ON. The AUDIO or VIDEO will be saved in 15 minute segments.

Auto Standby Sets the number of minutes of camera inactivity before the camera goes into standby/sleep mode.

Standby mode saves battery energy when the camera is not in use for an extended period. The camera can be bought back to life by pressing the RECORD or SNAPSHOT button which will also reset the Auto Standby timer.

The default standby time is 5 minutes.

TV Standard Use this to set the TV format in your area that is output via the AV OUT connection.

Note: If you change the TV format, please unplug and re-insert the AV cable into the AV OUT port on the camera.

NTSC / PAL NTSC is used in North America and PAL is used in most other countries.

Format

/ Selecting formats the micro-SD card.

If there is no micro-SD card installed, you will see the micro-SD card icon on the TFT screen and this command will format the internal memory of the HD Sports.

This command will erase any recordings (including photos) on the card or internal memory, including those already recorded.

Default

/ Selecting will reset the camera back to its factory default settings.The camera will default to the English language and the system date will reset back to 2011.01.01.

Language Selects the language used in the OPTIONS menu and the messages displayed on the screen.

Frequency Set the light source frequency depending on your local area.

Artificial light from sources like fluorescent lamps operate at different frequencies depending on your location. If the camera is not set to the same frequency, you may see flickering in the image in Preview Mode on the LCD screen or during VIDEO recording.

50Hz / 60Hz Select 50Hz (for places like Europe and Australia) or 60Hz (for countries like North America).

Date / Time Allow you to change the time-stamp date and time that will be imprinted on your VIDEOS and PHOTOS.

The date is in the format: YY/MM/DDThe time is in the format: HH:MM:SS

To change a value, use the directional control (+ - < >) to move the cursor to the value you want to set and press OK.

The color of the value will change to red, indicating it is selected and able to be changed.

Use the + - buttons to shift the value up or down and then press OK when done. The value will be de-selected and you can move to another value.

NOTE: The time is set in 24-hour time so that 2:45pm will be shown as 14:45.

To save your changes, highlight and press OK.

Playback and Live viewingA flexible feature of the HD Sports is the ability to view a live feed of what the HD Sports camera is seeing by attaching the LCD screen or connecting the camera to an external TV or monitor. You can also playback photos and video you have taken to the LCD screen attachment or an external TV or monitor.

To attach the LCD screen attachment, see “Attaching/removing the LCD screen” on page 16.

Connection to an external TV or Monitor using composite video

Composite is an established standard for carrying video and audio from one device to another. It provides good video and audio quality but HDMI provides a better quality experience. To connect the HD Sports camera to an external TV or monitor, follow these steps.

• Lift the left ‘inputs’ cover on the unit using a fingernail and swing it up and out of the way to reveal the AV and HDMI ports.

• Connect the small plug on the AV composite cable (see “Package Contents” on page 7 to the AV input on the HD Sports camera.

• Connect the composite plugs on the other end of the cable to your TV or monitor. Composite cables are composed of three cables (yellow, red and white). Sometimes, they are yellow, black and white. Yellow is almost always the video signal and the other colors represent the left and right channel of a stereo pair. If you only plug one of the red or white cables into your external TV or monitor, you will only get a mono signal.

Connecting to an external TV or monitor using HDMI

HDMI is a new method of transmitting high quality digital video and audio providing exceptional results and clarity. Another benefit of HDMI is that the single cable can carry both high definition video and high quality audio and can use very small connectors.

• Lift the left strip as shown in the picture and swing it up and out of the way to reveal the AV and HDMI ports.

• Connect a mini-HDMI plug to the camera and the other side to the HDMI input on your TV or monitor.

Playback controlsTo use the playback controls you will need to have the LCD screen attached. The playback controls let you control playback of audio, video and photos you have taken. In addition you can delete or protect files to organise what is stored on your storage card.

Note: When connected to an external audio/video device, there will be no output displayed on the LCD screen. The menus and status functions are displayed on the output device. The LCD screen attachment only provides access via its buttons.

• Make sure the LCD screen is attached (see “Attaching/removing the LCD screen” on page 16) and the unit is on.

• Press the playback button to bring up the Playback Select screen

• Use the + and - buttons to highlight RECORD to playback VIDEO files or CAPTURE to view PHOTOS.

Playback - VIDEO files• Make sure the camera is in VIDEO record mode (see “Camcorder menu” on

page 21). If the camera is in AUDIO record mode, you will only see the AUDIO files recorded.

• Highlight the RECORD option and press the OK button

• You will be viewing the first VIDEO. You can use the < and > buttons to move back and forth through the VIDEOS one and a time.

• If you want to view the VIDEOS as thumbnails, press the “-” button. Use the +/-/UP/DOWN buttons to navigate around the wall of thumbnails and move to other pages

• Highlight a VIDEO and press the OK button view in fullscreen

• Press the OK button play the VIDEO file. To stop the VIDEO file before it ends, press the OK button again.

Video playback controls

While playing video, the following buttons control the playback.

+ button Increases the volume

- button Decreases the volume

< button Fast rewinds at 2X normal speed. Press again to increase rate to 4x normal speed

> button Fast forwards at 2X normal speed. Press again to increase rate to 4x normal speed

PB button Pauses/resumes playback during playback

Exits preview mode and returns to live viewing mode when no playback in progress.

OK button Starts/stops playback (stopping starting video playback using the OK button restarts playback of the file from the beginning)

VIDEO maintenance controls

While viewing a photo in fullscreen, press the MENU button to bring up the VIDEO maintenance controls.

Delete One Deletes the currently selected VIDEO file

Delete All Deletes ALL the VIDEO files that have not been tagged with “Protect” (see next optionTo delete all files, select YES and press the OK button.

Protect Locks a VIDEO file from accidental deletion. Files that have been tagged “Protect” must have the “Protect” tag removed to be deleted however formatting the storage card will delete them regardless of the “Protect” tag.

Playback - PHOTO filesHighlight the CAPTURE option and press the OK button.

OK button Rotates the photo 90 degrees clockwise for each press of the OK button.

+ button Puts the photo into ZOOM mode (see next section)

- button Puts the photos into THUMBNAIL mode

< button Moves to the previous PHOTO. If the first PHOTO is showing, it will wrap around to the last PHOTO in the list.

> button Moves to the next PHOTO. If the last PHOTO is showing, it will wrap around to the first PHOTO in the list.

PB button Returns to live viewing mode.

ZOOM mode

ZOOM mode has two states, Up/Down and Left/Right. When you first enter ZOOM mode, you will be in Up/Down ZOOM mode indicated by an arrow in the top middle of the preview screen. Use the OK button to switch modes. The following table details the functions of the buttons in this mode.

OK button Toggles between UP/DOWN zoom to LEFT/RIGHT zoom

UP/DOWN ZOOM mode is indicated by an arrow in the top/middle of the screen.

LEFT/RIGHT ZOOM mode is indicated by an arrow in the left/middle of the screen.

+ button Zooms IN in the PHOTO

- button Zooms OUT on the PHOTO

< button In UP/DOWN ZOOM mode, pans UP on the ZOOMED in photo.

PHOTO maintenance controls

In PHOTO viewing mode, press the M (Menu) button to access the maintenance controls. The table below details what each option does. To select on, use the + and - buttons to move through the list and press the OK button to select the option.

DPOF Digital Print Order Format

DPOF is a standard set by camera manufacturers to make it easiser to get your photos printed at a digital print shop. You can designate which photos are to be printed, and the number of copies of each.

DPOF printing requires a micro-SD card with preset DPOF information. It will fail if you simply select photos from the micro-SD and try to print them.

If you plan to use DPOF with your HD Sports camera, we recommend you format the storage card in the HD Sports and turn on DPOF on the HD Sports.

If the DPOF information on your storage card has been set by another camera, do not insert that storage card into the HD Sports camera since it will reset the DPOF information and you will lose the settings.

Playback - Audio Files

• Make sure the camera is in AUDIO record mode (see “Camcorder menu” on page 21). If the camera is in VIDEO record mode, you will only see the VIDEO files recorded.

• Highlight the RECORD option and press the OK button

• You will be viewing the first AUDIO file (a picture of a microphone will be displayed). You can use the < and > buttons to move back and forth through any other audio files recorded one and a time.

• If you want to view the AUDIO files as thumbnails, press the “-” button. Use the +/-/UP/DOWN buttons to navigate around the wall of thumbnails and move to other pages

• Highlight an AUDIO file and press the OK button to play the file

Audio playback controls

While playing audio, the following buttons control the playback.

+ button Increases the volume

- button Decreases the volume

PB button Pauses/resumes playback during playback

Exits preview mode and returns to live viewing mode when no playback in progress.

OK button Starts/stops playback (stopping and re-starting audio playback using the OK button restarts playback of the file from the beginning)

The Remote ControlThe HD Sports camera comes with a remote control unit that you can use to trigger the camera when it is mounted somewhere hard to reach or you have your hands full jibbing or carving a wave to worry about fiddling with the camera controls.

The remote control can wake the camera from STANDBY mode, start/stop VIDEO recording, take a SNAPSHOT and turn the laser on/off.

Pairing the remote controlYour remote should work with your HD Sports camera straight out of the box. If not, you will need to ‘pair’ it to the HD Sports so that the two know how to communicate with each other. To pair the remote:

• Turn off the HD Sports Camera

• Press and hold the RECORD button on the camera while powering ON the camera

• Release the RECORD button

• You now have 3 seconds to press both the RECORD and STOP buttons on the remote control to complete the pairing

• If successful, you will hear two short beeps

Remote Control functions and operation

When pressing a button on the remote, a beep sound indicates recording has started, two beeps indicates recording has stopped.

RECORD button: This button begins recording. Even if you have already begun recording, pressing this button does NOT toggle recording off. This is useful if you can’t remember or see whether the unit is already in RECORD mode. Pressing it more than once will still leave the unit in RECORD MODE.

SNAPSHOT button: This button will take a snapshot (photo). The unit will not take a photo if it is currently recording VIDEO/AUDIO. Therefore, if you are unsure of what mode the unit is in and cannot check the status on the LCD screen or LCD attachment, press the STOP button first and then press the SNAPSHOT button.

Pressing the SNAPSHOT button for 3 seconds turns on the laser. Do the same to turn off the laser. Activating the laser in this way does not affect the setting you have selected under CAMCORDER->LASER SYNCHORNOUS SHOOTING in the “Camcorder menu” on page 21.

STOP button: This button stops video recording and returns the HD Sports to standby mode.

Range: The remote control can operate the camera from up to 2m/6ft horizontally as long as there are no obstructions. The range becomes severely limited when the camera is in the waterproof case.

Installing the waterproof caseOne of the things about extreme sports is that they have extreme conditions. The HD Sports camera has it covered (literally) with a waterproof case which allows you to take it into wet or snow filled environments so you can catch all the action.

Fitting the waterproof caseNOTE: You cannot mount the camera inside the waterproof case while the LCD screen is attached.

• Open the waterproof case by unclipping the buckle on the case

• Turn the camera ON

• Insert the camera (lens first) into the case ensuring the two metal buttons on the case align with the VIDEO and SNAPSHOT buttons on the camera. The bottom of the case has a screw mount which should align with the screw mount in the case.

• Close the door on the waterproof case and refit the clasp.

Once sealed inside the case, you can still trigger the RECORD and SNAPSHOT buttons without opening the case by pressing the metal spring-loaded buttons on the case. You can also use the remote control although its range becomes limited since shielded inside the case, the camera has difficulty detecting the commands from the remote.

Note: The laser cannot be used when the camera is installed in the waterproof case.

Caring for the waterproof caseBefore using the waterproof case in a wet environment, make sure the seals are in good condition and properly fitted. Also, make sure there’s no grit or moisture around the seals preventing them forming good contact when the case is properly buckled.

Before heading out, it’s a good idea to test the case in water without the camera inside to check that no moisture can penetrate the seals. The camera itself is not waterproof. We’ve tested it so you don’t have to.

Tips for prolonging the life of your waterproof caseHere are some tips for taking care of your waterproof case.

• Do not refit the seals or disassemble the case in any way since this may affect the waterproofing of the case.

• Do not place the case in corrosive environments such as acids or alkali.

• Do not expose the case to extremes of temperature beyond 500c or below -100c for long periods as this may cause case deformation.

• Do not expose the case to direct sunlight for long periods as this may affect the waterproofing of the case.

• Avoid dropping or causing any physical damage to the waterproof case as this may weaken the case and allow water to reach the camera.

• After using the case in sea water, rinse the waterproof case thoroughly in fresh water, spot dry with a paper towel and place somewhere cool and ventilated to dry fully before your next use.

Insert the HD Sports camera into the waterproof case lens first as shown in the picture above,

close the door and seal it with the clasp.

NOTE: You cannot mount the camera inside the waterproof case while the LCD screen is attached.

Transferring files to your computerYou can connect the HD Sports camera to your computer to view or edit the files you have recorded or remove the micro-SD card and insert it into a card reader attached to your computer.

PC with Windows operating system• Connect the mini-USB side of the USB cable to the camera and the USB

connector on the other end to a USB port on your computer.

• Turn on the camera by sliding the POWER SWITCH to ON. The LCD display will show the USB icon .

• In Windows, click on the START button and click MY COMPUTER (Win XP) or COMPUTER (Vista/Win7). A folder should open showing the drives connected to your computer. One of these will be a removable drive that is the storage card on your camera.

• Click on the REMOVABLE DRIVE icon and it will reveal a folder called “DCIM.” Click on “DCIM” and it will reveal the files recorded by your camera.

• Drag your PHOTOS, VIDEOS or AUDIO files to your computer or double click on any of them to view them directly from the storage card. Note, you will need appropriate software to view or listen to the files but these come with most versions of Windows.

Mac operating system (10.4 or later)• Connect the mini-USB side of the USB cable to the camera and the USB

connector on the other end to a USB port on your computer.

• Turn on the camera by sliding the POWER SWITCH to ON. The LCD display will show the USB icon .

• The storage card on the camera will appear in the drive list in Finder.

• Click on the REMOVABLE DRIVE icon and it will reveal a folder called “DCIM.” Click on “DCIM” and it will reveal the files recorded by your camera.

• Drag your PHOTOS, VIDEOS or AUDIO files to your computer or double click on any of them to view them directly from the storage card. Note, you will need appropriate software to view or listen to the files that come with most versions of the Mac operating system.

Note: If you are having issues achieving smooth playback on your computer, the HD Sports camera can play back everything it records and display it on the attachable LCD screen or to an external TV or monitor. See “Playback and Live viewing” on page 27 for more information.

Mounting the cameraThe camera comes with versatile mounting options that you can use in whatever configuration suits your needs.

There are two main components to mounting your camera; the bases and the joints. The bases are attached to a surface using an adhesive. The joints clip into the base and can be unclipped and moved to another mounting location.

BasesThere are two sizes of bases which come with an adhesive backing. Use these to stick them to any clean, dry surface where you want a secure mount. The tape used is a high strength bonding tape that when stuck forms a virtually indestructible weld. Therefore, choose carefully since once it’s on, it’s on for good!

The tape is able to be mounted to glass, metal, plastics and painted or sealed surfaces such as wood or concrete. It is resistant to harsh outdoor and environmental extremes.

Warning: Since the tape provides a strong adhesive, expect that it cannot be removed. Attempts to remove it will very likely damage the mount AND the surface to which it is attached.

Mount and JointsThere are two joints provided. A single joint and a double joint.

Mount: The mount is what you use to secure the joint to the camera or to the waterproof case by simply screwing in the nut into the mounting holes under the camera. Simply fit the screw to the mounting hole underneath the camera or waterproof case.

Single joint: The single joint as it implies has only one join which you can adjust by turning the thumb screw protruding out the side. Loosen the joint slightly, reposition the angle you want the joint to sit and then tighten the thumb screw.

The single joint also includes the screw nut that is used to attach to the camera or waterproof case. You can attach the mount to either of these by inserting it into the mounting hole underneath.

Double (L-shaped) joint: The second joint is a double or L-shaped joint. This provides even more flexibility by allowing you to adjust the angle at two positions.

Note: The double joint is an extension joint. Therefore, you will need to remove the mounting head from the single joint in order to have a way to secure the joints assembly to the camera or waterproof case.

Clipping in jointsThe joints clip into the bases in a similar fashion to clips found on backpacks. Slide the clip between the guides on the base until the two flexible arms snap into place. The clip can be fed into the base from either side of guides.

To unclip a mount, gently squeeze the two clips together and slide the mount out of the guides.
