Chancellor’s MessageI warmly welcome you to this edition of the Al Rawi magazine. As we get ready to move into another busy academic year ahead of us this is a perfect opportunity to recall some of the wonderful events and milestones that have taken place throughout our 17 colleges over the past 12 months, marking HCT’s 25th anniversary.

Reading this edition will rekindle fond memories of the Festival of Thinkers and Education Without Borders conferences, as well as the spectacular gala dinner in Dubai where our guest of honour was H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

In addition, HCT also hosted a number of highly informative and interactive, student-focused conferences, ceremonies and competitions, of which we should all be very proud. These include the Innovation Challenge with Northrop Grumman, the Wharton Innovation Tournament, English language, Engineering and Mathematics conferences and the 10th Abu Dhabi Industry Award. There was also the many technology-focused events, such as the Federal Mobile Learning Initiative and subsequent iCelebrate programmes.

In my new role as Chancellor I have had wonderful opportunities to visit many of our colleges and meet with students, faculty and management teams. In addition, I have been afforded the honour of meeting with H. H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Fujairah, when I recently visited the Fujairah Colleges, and also H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, at the Madinat Zayed Colleges.

On these visits I was given the opportunity to address their Highnesses on the HCT's strategies and future plans, which will include promoting the Arabic language and ensuring HCT is able to fully respond to the local market demands. I look forward to completing my nationwide tour of all our colleges and to meeting students and faculty and to seeing the innovative and empowering educational practices being put in place to educate our students.

As the Higher Colleges of Technology fondly reminisces over its 25th Anniversary celebrations now is the time to look forward to the year ahead and the many challenges and opportunities that we will encounter. It will be our goal to show that HCT is the best institution in the UAE and that HCT graduates are the most wanted in the market. In order to do this we will maintain our strong commitment to the principles of “Learning by Doing”; continue with our dedication to Emiratisation policies as set out by the UAE government and grow our good relationships with business and industry leaders to ensure HCT students’ skills are job-relevant and to the highest standards.

We will also see the introduction of new career-oriented Applied Diplomas in areas such as Engineering Technology and Education, which have been developed with our industry partners. In addition to enabling graduates to gain employment, these new qualifications will also allow for students to move into the HCT’s Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree programmes. These will complement HCT’s unwavering commitment to providing excellence in education for our students throughout our nation.

As the HCT enters into a new period of development and growth I look forward to reading of more uplifting stories and achievements from our HCT community.

Learning By Doing – Student Success by DesignAs we return to leveraging opportunities of a new academic year – with new students, faculty, programmes and partnerships to welcome - it is time for this edition of the Al Rawi magazine to reflect on some of the wonderful events and accomplishments over the past 12 months that have been hallmarks of the Higher Colleges of Technology’s 25th Anniversary year.

The past academic year has been a very productive and rewarding one for the Higher Colleges of Technology, as we continue to raise the bar in terms of our students’ success and the services we offer them.

We look back with great fondness and uplifting memories of the Education Without Borders and Festival of Thinkers conferences, which were part of our very busy and energetic week of celebrations for our 25th Anniversary. HCT’s 25th year of operation brought out the feelings of great pride and community amongst us all at the Higher Colleges – that we are a part of a great part of the UAE’s history and future. That sense of pride and commitment will help to carry us forward throughout the next year as we strive to achieve excellence.

In the coming year, the Higher Colleges of Technology will enter a period of even greater innovation and advancement across all of our 17 colleges. As the UAE’s largest higher education institution the HCT will continue to strive for excellence in education so that we can equip our students with the essential skills and knowledge for the modern world and encourage all of them to always aim higher.

By fully engaging principles such as Learning by Doing and the integration of technology-based learning, HCT continues to raise the bar in setting high standards for academic levels, student experiences and learning outcomes. Together we can work to achieve our goals of producing graduates who have high levels of language, technical, and critical thinking skills; who can find productive and relevant employment and who can operate effectively in the global economy for the 21st century.

In doing so the HCT will keep pace with the changing nature and needs of the community, and the region, by providing highly qualified and work-ready graduates, who meet the specific needs of employers.

The stories in this edition reinforce our commitment to offering our students a rich college experience, providing them with all possible opportunities to graduate, helping them find productive employment and providing them with pathways to higher awards or degrees. This Al Rawi will also give readers an insight into the many varied and exciting opportunities available at our colleges, for new and existing students.

I trust that you will enjoy reading this edition of Al Rawi and look forward to it highlighting more examples of HCT’s excellence in education in the coming year.

As part of its ongoing commitment to the United Arab Emirates’ goals to provide opportunities for highly skilled Emiratis, and to furthering its own Emiratisation policies, the Higher Colleges of Technology has appointed the following UAE Nationals to the positions of College Directors.

HCT’s emiratisation efforts helping UAE grow

Sultan Hussain Karmostaji has been appointed Director of the HCT Abu Dhabi colleges. Prior to this role Sultan was the Associate Director for Student Support Services at HCT’s central services division. Sultan is currently completing his DBA at University of Southern California (USC), USA.He has a Masters in Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a Bachelor degree in IT from HCT. Sultan has been with the HCT since 2005, serving in various roles in the Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (CERT) – eventually becoming Chief Operating Officer of CERT before moving on to take a leadership role in the Central Student Services of HCT. Prior to joining HCT, he worked as Project Coordinator for the Ministry of Interior.

Dr. Saoud Al Mulla has been appointed Director of the HCT Dubai Colleges. Dr. Saoud has a PhD in Communication Cultural & Media Studies from Gloucestershire University, UK and Masters of Art in Film & Television Production from Bristol University, UK and a Bachelor degree in corporate communication and media management from HCT. He has been with the HCT-Abu Dhabi Men’s College since 2005 starting as a faculty, then department Chair and for the past year as the Associate Director. Prior to joining HCT, Dr. Saoud had worked in technical positions for ADNOC and Abu Dhabi TV and in PR roles for a marine company.

Hamsa Saleh Al Ammari, who has led the Higher Colleges of Technology’s emiratisation efforts as a Human Resources Manager, has been appointed Director of the HCT Al Ain colleges. Hamsa is currently completing her PhD in Organizations & Management Programmes at Capella University, USA. She has a Masters in Strategic Human Resource Management from the University of Wollongong and Bachelor’s and Higher Diploma in Business from HCT. She has been with the HCT since 2002, including serving in various roles in the Student Services of Al Ain Women’s College, a teaching role and, for the past seven years, in progressive careers in Human Resources at the Higher Colleges of Technology as well as at the Al Ain Colleges Prior to joining HCT, she worked for the RAK Bank.

This academic year marked an important milestone for the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) - the 25th anniversary of the “people’s college” that provides opportunity for all Emiratis to maximise their individual potential through access to higher education.

Dedicated to fostering a student-centred learning environment, HCT continues to empower students to build the national workforce. This mission has been emphasised by HCT’s newly appointed Chancellor, HE Mohammad Hassan Omran Al Shamsi. The HCT has reinforced its educational philosophy of “Learning by Doing”, which centres on applied and practical education to prepare Emiratis for the workforce. To sustain its role in the nation’s future, HCT has embraced a renewed commitment to align its academic programmes with ‘real’ industry needs by listening and talking closely with employment partners and responding to market demands.

In another full calendar of innovative education-focused events, we witnessed many major conferences and forums this year – from Festival of Thinkers and Education Without Borders, Abu Dhabi Industry Award, innovation challenges and tournaments, Insight Dubai, iCelebrate professional development conferences to programme specific events such as the Engineering Excellence and Mathematics conferences, to name a few. All of these are designed to engage students and to foster a passion for life-long learning, inquiry and self-development.

The HCT community also actively participated in the 41st UAE National Day celebrations – Spirit of the Union. That special occasion saw all 17 colleges of the Higher Colleges of Technology host a wide variety of events and celebrations at their campuses including traditional food, arts & craft displays, poetry competitions, performances, campus

tours and a host of interesting and captivating competitions. The week of activities demonstrated the HCT’s passion and commitment for the National Day. One of the signature events for National Day was a series of tree planting ceremonies at the colleges, as part of the Union Tree Initiative, an initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.

We also saw the opening of the new AED130 million HCT-Ras Al Khaimah Women’s College campus in May by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, H.E. Mohammad Hassan Omran Al Shamsi, HCT Chancellor and other dignitaries.

Sheikh Mohammed toured the college’s various facilities and classes including a visit to the library where he took part in some students' activities and signed several copies of his book "Flashes of Inspiration" which he dedicated to the college. He wished the students success and progress in their education so as to achieve their goals and serve their country.

As we look forward to the new academic year the strategic direction of all 17 HCT colleges to play a pivotal leadership role in meeting the UAE’s national priorities will continue. HCT will also maintain its commitment to expand and improve its outreach activities to all communities in the UAE, while focusing its future activities on the five “E’s” of Emiratisation:

From Humble Beginnings to World Class Colleges … A Short History of the HCTNo celebration of the Higher Colleges of Technology’s (HCT) 25th Anniversary would be complete without looking at its presence in the UAE over the past 25 years, and the contributions made by its vibrant and growing colleges. From humble beginnings in 1988, the HCT has grown to become the UAE’s largest higher education institution, spanning across this diverse land.

In a relatively short 25 years, the Higher Colleges of Technology’s evolution to be at the vanguard of higher education in the UAE has mirrored the phenomenal growth and development of this fledgling nation. From having about 240 students enrolled at four colleges the HCT has grown exponentially to where it now educates over 18,000 male and female students in 17 modern and well-equipped campuses located throughout the UAE.

In 1985, HE Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan made a commitment to establish a new system of post-secondary education for UAE Nationals, no matter where they lived within the UAE, which would stress the ideals of productivity, self-determination and excellence. His Excellency envisioned a system of the highest quality that would be used to educate Nationals for the professional and technical careers necessary in a rapidly developing society and create a new generation of work-ready graduates and which maintains the rapid growth of the economy.

In fulfillment of that vision, the HCT was established in 1988 by Federal Law No 2 issued by the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founder of the Nation, may his soul rest in peace. Since that auspicious time, HCT has maintained a commitment to become synonymous with excellence in education.

The first HCT colleges were set up in September 1988 in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, with the Al Ain Men’s College originally operating from a rented villa in the city’s Al Sarooj district. It had 61 students and 18 faculty and staff. The Al Ain Women’s College started life in a rented compound of six small villas located in the city’s Al Mowaiji district, with 57 students (all from the northern Emirates) and 16 faculty and staff.

The Abu Dhabi Women’s College opened in a villa in the city, with 45 students enrolled. It subsequently moved to a temporary location, which later became known as part of the HCT Central Services Division. Eventually, it moved to its current location near Hazza Bin Zayed Street. The Abu Dhabi Men’s College first occupied two floors in Al Masaood Tower, Hamdan Street, catering for 52 students. In 1991 it moved to a temporary campus on the current CERT site, near Muroor Road. In that year ADMC and ADWC graduated their first cohort of students. In 1995, ADMC moved to its current campus, located on Al Saada Street.

Dubai Men’s College in August 1989 at a former "car showroom" with eight classrooms, two computer labs and one engineering lab, where it catered for 104 students. In December 1989 Dubai Women’s College opened with 145 students.

DMC’s rapid growth saw it undergo two more moves before relocating to its current campus in Dubai Academic City, officially opened on March 30, 2005. DWC also moved premises to its current campus which was officially opened on December 15, 1998.

The expansion of HCT to meet the demands of post-secondary education for Emiratis saw the Ras Al Khaimah Men’s and Women’s Colleges open in September 1993, with 46 and 104 students respectively. The new RAK Women’s College, which is adjacent to the Men’s College, is the latest HCT college to open, officially opened in May 2013 by UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The late 1990s saw further growth of the HCT model, with the Sharjah Women’s College opening in 1997, the Sharjah Men’s College in 1998 and the Fujairah Women's College opening in August 1999 with 364 students. In August 2004 the Fujairah Men's College opened with 112 students.

The ‘final frontier’ for HCT was conquered when it opened colleges in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi emirate. Its Madinat Zayed Men’s and Women’s Colleges were officially opened on September 3, 2006. The Men's College had 31 students and the Women's College had 136 students. The following year saw the Ruwais Women's College open with 82 students, while HCT’s Ruwais Men's College opened in 2009 with 25 students.

In 2009 HCT opened a women’s college at Khalifa City A to meet the demand for post-secondary education for women in the areas surrounding Abu Dhabi city. The state-of-the-art college became the HCT Khalifa City Women's College.

HCT’s success is because it offers a hands-on, or applied, education designed to appeal to young Emirati males and females, where the emphasis continues to be on learning by doing. HCT provides student-centered, technology-focused and workplace relevant teaching/learning practices, where students’ skills and programmes meet the needs of employers, industry and the community.

HCT 25th Anniversary celebrated with week of exciting eventsThe culmination of the Higher Colleges of Technology’s 25th Anniversary celebrations this year was a gala ceremony on March 26 at the Rixos Hotel, Palm Dubai where about 2,000 specially invited guests, including HCT alumni and current students, Nobel Laureates, VIPs, leaders from academia, business and society and several hundred international students witnessed a vivid celebration of art, music, poetry, fireworks and interpretive dance.

The event celebrated the accomplishments of past HCT graduates and retraced the institution’s history, as well as highlighting the start of the 2013 Education Without Borders conference (EWB 2013). HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai and HE Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development were the special guests of honour.

Amid colourful fireworks, the evening featured a guest appearance by world renowned urban climber, Alain Robert, dubbed the “French Spiderman”, who returned to the city where he created history by climbing the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, during EWB 2011.

Alain Robert was joined by world famous performers, violin virtuoso Vanessa-Mae and DIV4S, four female Italian sopranos. An Arabic poem, written especially for HCT’s 25th Anniversary, was performed by renowned poet Dr. Aref Al Sheikh to the appreciative audience.

A highlight of the gala ceremony was the 60m-long interactive screen which was the backdrop for many of the international and UAE students to be photographed with Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Nahayan. The spectacular evening ended with Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Nahayan cutting a celebratory cake marking the milestone anniversary.

The international students represented about 60 nations and 130 institutions covering the globe, from large nations such as Canada, China, Russia and the USA, to small and emerging countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bhutan, Cuba, Haiti, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan.

HCT’s 25th Anniversary celebrations saw a week-long program in March of diverse events including international student conferences, educational and technology roundtables, leadership summits and international business think tanks. The week of celebrations was devoted to the pursuit of excellence in education, innovation and technology.

The events included the HCT’s signature Festival of Thinkers and Education Without Borders biennial international conferences, which each catered to many hundreds of international and local students interacting with Nobel Laureates and world leaders. During the week the HCT also co-hosted, with the Wharton School and the Global Interdependence Center (GIC), the GIC Central Banking Series Seminar entitled “The Middle East: Lessons from the Changing Economic Landscape”.

The banking seminar saw over 200 UAE-based and international banking and finance executives hear the keynote address by Richard Fisher, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and discuss themes such as “The Middle East: Global Lessons and Opportunities”, ”Global Financial Markets: Looking Forward” and “Responsible Investing”.

The HCT Dubai Men’s College was the venue for a HCT-Apple Inc hosted Apple Leadership Education Summit, where over 300 educational and government leaders and expert faculty from the region participated in the summit, held in the region for the first time. The summit followed the successful UAE Federal Mobile Learning Initiative launch in September 2012, which saw the world’s largest mobile learning initiative in higher education implemented in the UAE.

HCT-DMC was also the venue for a mobile learning event on March 28, entitled iCelebrate3 - A Teaching & Learning Event: Sharing the iPad Experience. About 300 iChampions faculty and others from Zayed University, HCT and the UAE University participated by sharing their experiences using the iPad for teaching and learning.

The final event for the week was the Pearl Initiative-HCT Student Roundtable on Responsible Investing. The event was designed to encourage students looking at investments from an environmental, social and governance standpoint as opposed to purely financial returns or stock market gains.

The hectic week of stimulating events provided vast opportunities for delegates to discuss, debate and act on many important global issues surrounding education. A very fitting celebration of the HCT’s 25th Anniversary.

Inspire, Innovate & Invent with Passion – the message to students at HCT’s Festival of Thinkers conferenceHundreds of international and Emirati university students were urged to follow the lead of Nobel Laureates and world thinkers for the betterment of education, and society, at the Higher Colleges of Technology’s 5th Festival of Thinkers Conference held in March.

The iconic international student conference, with delegates representing about 60 nations and 130 institutions covering the globe, was officially inaugurated by HE Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development in the presence of several world leaders in education and politics.

It saw free-flowing, collegiate discussions between students and visiting Nobel Laureates and world thinkers on topics involving three sub-themes of:

• Science,Technology,Engineering&MathematicsEducation: Initiatives and Challenges

• EffectsofEducationonHealthandWellness

• InnovativeModelsofHigherEducation

The participants engaged in panel discussions, round-table group planning and comprehensive summations – all involving

close interaction between the students and Nobel Laureates and thinkers.

The highlight was the opening panel discussion which featured the esteemed Nobel Laureates Dr Mohamed ElBaradei (Peace, 2005), Prof Klaus von Klitzing (Physics, 1985), Sir Harold W. Kroto (Chemistry, 1996), Prof Douglas Osheroff (Physics, 1996) and Prof Yuan Tseh Lee (Chemistry, 1986). They were joined by John Couch Vice President – Apple Inc. Other Nobel Laureates to attend the conference and participate in interactive roundtable discussions were Prof Barry J. Marshall (Medicine, 2005), Prof Martin Chalfie (Chemistry, 2008) and Prof Jerome I. Friedman (Physics, 1990).

Also in attendance was former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, Quartet Representative to the Middle East and Founder of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation. HE Sheikh Nahayan spoke of

the conference’s global importance. “We must contemplate. We must deliberate. We are created to think, and we have a responsibility to think well. But we must also have the strength of mind to encounter the world outside ourselves,” Sheikh Nahayan urged students.

Sheikh Nahayan advised the students to use the Nobel Laureates as role models for their own careers. “They did not conceal their work—their thinking. No, indeed, their thinking was on display for the entire world to evaluate. Their thoughts were not ordinary. Their thoughts were extraordinary--original, innovative, different,

and monumentally important,” he said.

Tony Blair said that “education being the most important factor than ever before, as education is essential for economic growth. Human capital is the single biggest resource for a nation”. He added that an education revolution was needed. “The Festival of Thinkers gives us that opportunity to make those changes. Technology and innovative changes are the ways in which to change the way we educate people,” he said.

Nobel Laureate Mohamed ElBaradei said that the bigger picture view of science was needed to improve society. “We all

have the connectivity but we need to look further than that and we need people to have a minimum knowledge of science,” he said. Sir Harold Kroto added that it was important to have a focus on STEM but there was a need for a more holistic education to improve our education – with additional focus on “what we are enjoying in life”. Fellow Nobel Laureate Prof Douglas Osheroff said that “people need more than education to be productive, they need passion”. “Passion is what drives us to do the great things that we do,” he said.

7th Education Without Borders 2013 conference considers global educational opportunitiesTopics such as the importance of education, the influence of mentors, public-private partnerships and improving critical thinking were debated at the 7th biennial Education Without Borders 2013 conference in March, as hundreds of international and UAE students explored ways in which to bridge educational gaps, in order to provide greater opportunities for communities.

The student-oriented conference, held this year under the theme of Bridging the Gap … Innovative Solutions to Global Educational Challenges, was convened at the Sharjah Higher Colleges of Technology as part of a week of educational celebrations and activities hosted by the HCT to mark the milestone of its remarkable 25-year history.

The student delegates, together with the Nobel Laureates, leading educators and technologists, participated in 32 interactive student paper presentations throughout the day, which enabled the students to be heard as future leaders.

The conference, which has run since 2001, was officially inaugurated by HE Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development in the presence of Nobel Laureates Prof Klaus von Klitzing (Physics, 1985), Sir Harold W. Kroto (Chemistry, 1996), Prof. Douglas Osheroff (Physics, 1996), Prof Yuan Tseh Lee (Chemistry, 1986), Prof Martin Chalfie (Chemistry, 2008) and Prof Jerome I. Friedman (Physics, 1990).

H E Sheikh Nahayan saw the genesis of

EWB as positive interactions between participants. “For the sake of the future of global education, I fervently hope that you all make global education the object of your life’s work. You have realistic, practical ideas that spring from truly creative thinking … a passionate commitment to solving problems and strengthening education around the globe. Your intelligent, imaginative, and practical ideas and your tireless dedication to putting them into practice will bring life and light to the world,” he said.

His Excellency said what was of “critical importance” was “a sound basic education that enables literacy of language and current technology, mathematical competence, a familiarity with the scientific method, an historical and cultural consciousness, and an appreciation of other cultures and other ways of life.”

The delegates were also treated to a panel discussion involving the Nobel Laureates and special guest NYIT President Prof Edward Guiliano, which was moderated by television broadcaster, Riz Khan. The eminent panel discussed a wide range of topics, focused on the theme of what students want out of higher education, and answered questions from the audience.

A constant refrain from the panellists was connecting students’ passions with their studies. Prof. Jerome Friedman told the

students they needed to have a passion, challenge themselves and “do something that makes you a better person”, both personally and in your community, while Prof. Martin Chalfie said students should follow the mantra of “I am only limited by my own imagination and by what I can do, not by someone else’s ideas.”

On the issue of global educational challenges Prof. Guiliano said with the internet and mass communications the approach should be to look at fewer local

problems, but more global issues. “We tend to think globally but act locally and to do that we need both basic research and applied research,” he said.

HCT Helps Create History With Mobile Learning Initiative

Life for HCT students was transformed with the official launch of the history-making Federal Higher Education Mobile Learning Initiative on September 23, 2012 by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, placing the UAE at the forefront of adopting transformative technologies in education.

It marked the largest nationwide mobilisation of mobile learning in higher education anywhere in the world; implementing the 3rd generation iPads which were put into use by approximately 14,000 new and Foundation Programme students at the three UAE Federal Higher Education institutions, at the start of the academic

Mohammed officially launched the project by electronically signing a tablet device before touring the campus where he witnessed students using the tablets in Mathematics and English classes and a number of different scenarios. He also watched video link-ups with classrooms of students at UAEU and Zayed University.

The Higher Colleges of Technology, United Arab Emirates University and Zayed University are using the initiative as a tool to revolutionize and improve the way students learn and are taught. Through the integration of the latest mobile learning technologies, the initiative will transform higher education in the UAE and

motivate and engage students in their intellectual development.

Dr Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology said the Initiative was one of the most innovative educational processes to be introduced. “With this emphasis on innovation in education we are ensuring our students will have the necessary skills of adaptability, information technology and analytical thinking so that they make important contributions to the United Arab Emirates and enable them to

succeed in a changing world,” he said.

Students will find new ways of learning that recognises their aptitude for mobile learning by making their higher education experiences more effective, rewarding, hands-on and fun. It is a first step in a new learning paradigm using a wide variety of Applications (Apps) in paperless classrooms. Teachers and students will be able to bring the world into the classroom, providing students with a truly holistic and heuristic education experience. Students will become co-creators of their own learning environment through collaborations with their peers and faculty.

Initially, over 800 faculty members across all three institutions were challenged to devise exciting new ways of engaging students, for whom the days of carrying and using bulky textbooks will be a thing of the past. Over the next two years, more faculty members will be engaged in new learning outcomes using tablets and other technologies. General education curricula and academic majors will be applying the lessons learned to push the boundaries of what might be possible using active learning.

HCT has taken further steps with the Mobile Learning Initiative by introducing course material on Apple iTunes, for access by students and faculty, as well as creating its bespoke HCT Mobile Application which provides content and information to the HCT community via the Apple App Store.

HCT’s move towards paperless learning for all students is expanding with the incorporation of mobile technologies in their studies. It is envisaged that tablet devices will be introduced for all HCT first-year students studying Bachelor of Applied Science programmes. They will join over 6,000 HCT Foundation Programme students who are already using the tablet devices. This next roll-out of the mobile devices will be to approximately 1,500 new year-one Bachelor’s degree students.

The roll-out of tablets is seen as an extension of the Learning by Doing philosophy that all HCT colleges are emphasising in their daily practices. It will lead to a seamless transition, using mobile technologies, from the Foundations Programme and throughout the Bachelor’s Programmes. The three federal institutions also plan to leverage partnerships with Apple Inc and leading international educational publishers to promote mobile learning throughout the region, through services covering pedagogy, content, infrastructure, and training.

Commitment to Educate, Engage and Innovate Drives Successful Mobile Technology TrainingIn the space of 12 months, many HCT faculty members have gone from tablet novices to mobile technology experts, due to the HCT’s commitment to ensure teaching with mobile technologies is thorough, relevant and accessible.

The challenge to make tablet technologies, such as iPads, part of their teaching repertoire has been taken up by many faculty with great relish, enthusiasm and commitment, through several workshops and training sessions, as the mobile learning devices became second nature to them. HCT faculty have worked collegially with their counterparts at United Arab Emirates University and Zayed University in three specific training sessions, known as iCelebrate 1, 2 and 3.

The first event was a general training session to allow faculty not conversant with iPads to learn more about the tools and integrate them into the classrooms, as well as looking at specific Applications applicable to teaching in the UAE.

iCelebrate2 continued the conversations among hundreds of creative HCT, ZU and UAEU faculty, interested in sharing ideas. Faculty members discussed course design, materials development, and specific uses

for apps in the classroom, among other topics. This event showed an increase by faculty in a desire to use innovative teaching methods, which lead to varied and broader session topics. They also reported that the technology has given them more scope for creativity.

Another group teaching and learning event, iCelebrate3, was held in March under the theme of Sharing the iPad Experience and brought together over 300 iChampions from ZU, HCT and UAEU. It was an occasion for teachers from across all the three institutions and programme divisions to share their experiences using the iPad for teaching and learning, at various stages of their respective curricula. The sessions for that event were collegial, interactive conversations centred on the expansion of the use of iPad in teaching and learning. An iCelebrate Finale was held in June as a wrap-up for the year and for faculty to consolidate what they had learned throughout the year.

The HCT colleges have also run their own mobile learning training sessions for faculty members, such as the Khalifa City Women’s College (KCWC) conducting simulation workshops in the use of iPads in higher education and an iDesign

workshop, providing model lessons for a Challenge Based Learning environment and using iPads to identify, research and solve problems. Faculty also learned how to problem solve technical issues as well as using specific digital programs.

In addition, the Al Ain Men’s College hosted an iFoundations iForum for the ongoing training and development process for HCT’s Math and English Foundations instructors, which saw about 550 faculty members attend the day. The forum provided teachers with an opportunity to work on practical classroom activities that will be directly applicable to their situation in the company of other teachers from across the system.

In the Western region, the HCT Madinat Zayed and Ruwais campuses hosted a one-day conference to share and develop ways of using the iPad in education. Over the day, different groups explored ways to further integrate use of the devices and to include them in the strategic planning of the colleges using the wealth of applications available to aid teachers and students in their courses.

HCT Faculty Championing The Cause of Mobile Learning Technology

A similar concept to the iChampions is the HCT ‘iVolunteers’ - a novel approach, devised by HCT- Abu Dhabi Men’s College IT student Mohammed Khaled, where teams of HCT students are selected to act as mobile technology, or iPad, ambassadors in their respective colleges.

The iVolunteers are made of students from all levels and programmes who are keen to help the new Foundation Programme students. They are entrusted to help the Foundation students to properly use the iPads, as well as help with any technical issues relating to the iPad’s functions and the Applications. Coordinator Mohammed Khaled said a big advantage to the project was that the Foundation students could get help and guidance from their peers, with whom they feel comfortable and with whom they can develop a good rapport.

As HCT’s Foundation Programme students adapt to life with mobile tablets and classes on iPads, the whole process could not have been properly instituted without the commitment and dedication of HCT faculty and staff, who have enthusiastically ensured the integration of mobile learning has been a seamless one.

Since the start of the mobile learning initiative in September 2012, about 120 faculty members from the three Federal Higher Education Institutions have been chosen as ‘iChampions’ to promote the work of mobile technologies in the classrooms; work within their own institutions to train fellow faculty members as “curriculum content creator champions”; and assist students in the use of this technology.

In addition to their dedication and enthusiasm, the iChampions have participated in a series of intensive and active training workshops, working with their peers from the three institutions, throughout the year. The training is designed to further prepare each of the iChampions to use iPad tools aligned with foundational learning theories, enabling them to develop high-quality, course objective-aligned Electronic Learning Objects, which will be added to a UAE iPadagogy repository. The iChampions have been instrumental in the creation of a series of iBooks and Applications for use by students in the classrooms.

Chairman of the Federal Mobile Learning Initiative, Dr Tayeb Kamali, congratulated all those involved in the iChampions project and thanked them for their hard work and dedication throughout the rigorous process.

Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi – Role Model and Mentor to HCT Sharjah studentsHCT Sharjah Men’s and Women’s Colleges Director, Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi has looked to her own life experiences in her goal to instill a passion for excellence in learning in the hearts and minds of thousands of students.As the first female Emirati in such a respected role at HCT, the recently appointed college director is keen to highlight to her young charges the benefits of, and opportunities from, education. This altruistic approach is derived from her own experiences as an ambitious student growing up in Dubai with three sisters. Her experiences were molded by her father, a teacher, whose devotion to the education of his four daughters was of paramount consideration.“He was the driving force in our family for our education and advancement. He raised his four daughters to be confident young women. He would say ‘You have to learn, but I will stand by you’, and that is the philosophy I want to take at the College,” Dr. Al Hashimi said.After completing high school she went to the US with the dream to study medicine, enrolling at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, where an uncle was studying. “I was one of the very few women to get a scholarship to go to the USA at the time. I was something of a pioneer in that no other Emirati women were there at the time,“ she said.But upon discovering she needed a bachelor’s degree to study medicine, the young student opted to study for a degree in medical technology. This was later followed by a Master’s in Clinicial Laboratory Sciences, also at the University of

Minnesota. After time spent in Minneapolis, New York and Houston she discovered her “calling” for public health, which lead to her undertaking a doctoral degree.“I had a passion for understanding population health and trends, as well as epidemiology and disease control. I wanted to do my PhD research in the UAE. There was no real research being done locally which gave me more of an idea of what was happening here in the health sector. I chose to study cancer and particularly the patterns of cancer mortality in the UAE. I developed an atlas of cancer mortality in the UAE,” she said.Back in Dubai she soon started looking for more challenges and her consideration of teaching led to an introduction to Sharjah HCT Colleges Director, Dr Farid Ohan. “I loved teaching from my days at the University of Minnesota, where I took part time teaching jobs. I saw Dr. Farid on a Thursday and asked about part time work. He said ‘can you start on Sunday’.”“It started out as something for me to do, but I just loved the teaching. I started with four students in a new medical laboratory course.” Her dedication to teaching soon led to an offer of full time work, which she jumped at. She later took a year off to complete her doctoral studies.After finishing her PhD in the US, Dr. Muhadditha returned to the UAE and became a full-time teacher at Sharjah Women’s College, “which I loved”. She quickly advanced to become the curriculum coordinator, developing a new health education programme. “Teaching was my life and it let me do something real for the students.”

But after five years at the College, a newspaper article about her students led to Dr. Al Hashimi being head-hunted by the Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), as a new Director of Education with a medical education programme they were introducing.In August 2005 she became the Director of Education at the DHCC, which meant a big learning curve “but it was something I wanted to test myself on and prove I could do it”. Eight months into the job, the Chairman appointed her as CEO of DHCC – a first female leader in the healthcare sector. “Taking that job really transformed my career, opening up so many opportunities. I learned on the job. It was a steep learning curve, and we accomplished a lot.”Her background in, and passion for, public health vindicated the chairman’s decision, transforming a piece of Dubai’s desert

landscape into a world-class healthcare hub. “When I left DHCC in February 2013, we had seen over 600,000 patients

and there are 100 facilities and two big hospitals, and more than 2500 licenced health care professionals.”With the success of the Dubai Healthcare City assured another challenge arose –from her former mentor Dr. Farid Ohan. “He had been talking about me coming back to the Women’s College for some time. At first I wasn’t sure if it was right for me, but then I thought about it as bringing Emiratis to the top roles, and I recalled my great experiences with students. I am really excited about the role,” she explained.Dr. Al Hashimi intends to draw on her experiences at Dubai Healthcare City in her role as the Sharjah Colleges Director. “I have to use my skills and business background. The HCT is an organization like any other – it has customers, facilities etc, so my experience has given me transferable skills which has made me confident of handling th job,” she explained.“I have inherited a very good system. I am really proud to be a part of the A team. It will be a tough job but it will be something that I love doing.”The pressure to succeed in her new role acts as a catalyst to strive for excellence. “I know I will succeed, I cannot not succeed. If I fail it will be doom for every other Emirati in such a role. But I am very passionate about this job and education, and I can see parallels with my passion for healthcare. My challenge will be going from great to greatness at the college,” she said.Her aim is to see the College having a major impact on the work force, “where our graduates will go into their communities and will bring that ethic of excellence and hard work into their workplaces, and they

will be the leaders.”“We will instill in them the idea to excel and to drive themselves and make sure they are able to reach their full potential,” she said.While she goes about defining the Sharjah Women’s College’s unique value proposition, Dr. Muhadditha’s students can expect some straight-talking advice and direction. “I want to instill in the students that things in life are not always easy and you

have to work hard at them and pave your own way. You have to be the master of your own destiny,” Dr. Al Hashimi said.She also wants students to have a goal in life. “There is nothing stopping you if you have a dream. You have to follow this dream and not give up because there is always going to be bumps and other issues in your way. Challenge yourself and and keep going with your education. You should never finish learning.”

The past 18 months have been something of a whirlwind for Dr Ali Al Mansoori.

The affable educator was recently appointed as Director of the HCT Ras Al Khaimah Colleges, after demonstrating his management capabilities as the colleges’ Associate Director since 2009. As Director he was on hand for the official opening of the new AED130 million RAK Women’s College by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

In 2012 Dr. Al Mansoori was hailed as a pioneer after being the first Emirati academic to become a fellow of the prestigious American Council on Education (ACE) Fellows Program, which saw him shadow a university president for 12 weeks over the course of a year.

The annual ACE Fellows Program comprises 50 leading groomed for future roles as University presidents. Dr. Al Mansoori’s acceptance into the rigorous programme

will allow other Emiratis with experience in higher education administration to apply and it was a strong validation of HCT’s emiratization goals, which include executive leadership roles for Emirati administrators.

HCT’s Ras Al Khaimah’s Colleges already has the best record of Emiratisation of any in the HCT with almost three quarters of its administrative staff and and over 20 per cent of its academics being Emirati.

Dr Ali Al Mansoori said it was a “privilege” to become an ACE Fellow, but added that he was only too aware of the weight of responsibility on him. “It’s a pressure being the first. It’s a responsibility rather than a privilege. It will cost quite a lot of money but hopefully next year we will send more, and send women, as the colleges need women too,” he told The National newspaper.

Dr Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor of HCT, told The National newspaper the programme would allow Dr Al Mansoori to gain several

years’ experience in just 12 months. “It’s a tremendous opportunity to get fast-track experience. We’re so proud of his selection and hope it will encourage other Emiratis into education,” Dr Kamali said.

Dr Al Mansoori has had a long association with HCT RAK Colleges, starting his career there in 1997 as an Information Technology Engineer before taking up the position as an IT lecturer in 2002. In 2004 he became the Colleges’ Student & Academic Services Supervisor before taking on the role of Associate Director in 2009.

He is also an alumnus of HCT, graduating with a Higher Diploma in Business Information Technology. He also has a B.A. in Information Technology and a M.Sc. in E-Business, both from Huddersfield University in the UK. He has a Doctorate of Business Administration in Education from Leeds Met University, where his thesis was Enhancement of Education in the United Arab Emirates.

HCT-Abu Dhabi Men’s College 2012 graduate Abdulla Ali Obaid Mohamed Alfazari epitomizes the attitude of high-achieving HCT graduates. While at ADMC, Abdulla obtained a Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology and

a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering Technology, both with Distinction with Honour.

He was awarded a 2013 Abu Dhabi Industry Award for his academic prowess (GPA of 3.95) and his attitude to learning. He is seen as a student of honour, integrity, and scholarship. Throughout his studies Abdulla has exhibited a passion for

life-long learning and innovation through his membership in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and attendance at several international conferences related to

vital UAE industries. He is currently employed as an electrical engineer at Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO) and regularly utilizes his HCT skills in gaining further experience in the testing, maintenance, and improvement of

crude oil production in the UAE.

Asma Al Amri graduated from Abu Dhabi Women’s College with a Higher

Diploma in Financial Services and Banking, winning the Best Student

award, and then a Bachelor degree in Business Administration in 2008.

After a 10-year break since completing high school, Asma

fulfilled her childhood dream – the dream to complete her higher

education and enrolled at ADWC. Asma’s motto for attaining your

goals in life could be summed up as follows: “I believe that where there

is a will there is a way…you just need to be self-motivated, believe in yourself and just be determined about what you want to achieve …

just keep trying, and there you are!”

Dubai Men’s College graduate Mahdi Ali Hassan Redha led the UAE National Football Team to victory in the 2013 Gulf Cup in Bahrain. He is the first Emirati to be appointed to the role of UAE national team manager on a permanent basis, a role he took up on August 15, 2012

after his success as UAE Olympic team head coach.

Ali studied electrical engineering at the HCT Dubai Men's College and which would have instilled in him some of the traits and leadership skills needed to manage the young UAE national team. After graduating Ali worked

for the Dubai Municipality and was involved in the Road Transport Authority (RTA) where he was Director of

Parking, responsible for the development of the Dubai parking and metro ticketing scheme.

Faisal is a former Army officer and senior government employee who graduated in 2004 with a Higher

Diploma in Business Administration (E-commerce) with Honours from

HCT Sharjah Men's College.

HCT Reinforces its Core Role with emphasis on Learning By DoingThroughout its 25-year history, a hallmark of teaching and learning at the Higher Colleges of Technology has been its Learning by Doing (LBD) philosophy. The aim of this practical approach to education is to engage students in the learning process by providing them with methods that are interesting, relevant and fun.

LBD is an educational approach where students gradually acquire essential knowledge and skills through active, self-reflective engagement with the world inside the classroom and beyond, which increases the chance that concepts will be learned, remembered and used in a variety of situations. HCT’s renewed emphasis on this process is to ensure its systems are more efficient and effective, as well as helping to define what makes HCT distinct from the other institutions. It will reinforce that HCT is a hands-on and skills-oriented institution.

incarnation of the LBD project. Other system-wide examples of LBD being used include the Curriculum Conference & Curriculum Institute held last November, which explored a greater shift to more interactive e-learning projects for students, and the series of national training ‘iCelebrate’ events.

An extremely important phase of the LBD will be the eventual implementation of HCT’s new Applied Diploma programmes, which are designed to allow students to undertake a course of study that gives them work-relevant, technical skills in a three-year program. These diploma courses will also give them credit towards a Bachelor of Applied Science degree.

These Applied Diplomas will all be career-oriented, stress both practical and applied theories, include project-based instructions, require students to undertake field or work experience and include a capstone project that stresses application of what the students have gained during work experience.

Dr Phil Quirke, HCT Executive Dean of Foundation (Academic), said the focus of the Applied Diplomas will definitely be on the ‘Applied’ nature, in response to employers’ demands. “They are very much targeted to employment for the students, which means they are marketplace-oriented, industry-focused, practical and hands-on,” Dr Quirke said.

In order to effectively incorporate LBD into HCT’s curriculum there has been a need to identify innovative and highly motivated faculty from all 17 colleges, and the six Divisions, to spread the LBD philosophy at their campuses. To date, a group of 18 very talented and dedicated faculty members from the HCT system have been selected as LBD Advocates.

They have been identified as being passionate ambassadors of Learning By Doing at their colleges and in their programmes. These 18 advocates will be college and course leaders for LBD, and will help to maintain the colleges’ focus on LBD, as well as train and help other faculty members in its usage.

The advocates have undergone intensive, ongoing training and are actively encouraging learning by doing-based student projects and learning outcomes.

HCT Conferences – Bringing the World To Our Students

Hosting international conferences, competitions and forums is a vital aspect of the HCT’s philosophy to provide its students with hands-on learning experiences. Students have the opportunity to work with and learn from international experts and network with their global peers. These events are also perfect opportunities to celebrate the achievements and progress of HCT students.

One of the most eagerly anticipated events on the HCT calendar is the annual UAE Innovation Challenge, which is held in conjunction with Northrop Grumman Corporation and Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments Co. Teams of HCT students have to design, build, and race an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle against other teams.

After months of dedication, hard work and determination the eleven teams of students competed at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi over two days in April. The Dubai Men’s College team of Emirates Robotics continued its domination of the Challenge, winning the first prize, closely followed by Spirit of Al Ain in second place. Both teams travelled to Washington D.C. in August to attend and present at the Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) Convention for North America. These two prizes are sponsored by the Northrop Grumman Corporation.

Emirates Robotics won the inaugural challenge in 2011, while the Spirit of Al Ain team is the first male/female mixed team to win the trip to Washington D.C. They were also the first team to successfully

complete an autonomous spot landing in the Innovation Challenge’s short history. Third place-getter Seven Stars of Al Ain Colleges travelled overseas to visit an ADASI facility, courtesy of ADASI‘s sponsorship. The awards were as follows:

• First place: Emirates Robotics (Dubai Men’s College);

• Second place: Spirit of Al Ain (Al Ain Colleges);

Seven Seas team member Yousef Al Kuwaiti was humbled by the team’s success. “We all work together – us and Spirit of Al Ain. We are one small college but one big family, so it is great to help each other. That is why we do so well,” he said. Spirit of Al Ain team member Zainab Al Hassani said they were all excited with the result. “We have never been to the USA so this trip to Washington will be amazing for us. We will learn and see so much. We are totally thrilled with what we achieved. We really worked well as a team.”

HCT students participated in an innovation challenge of a different variety in May, when they competed with MENA region and Indian teams at the 2013 HCT-Wharton Innovation Tournament. Eleven regional teams showcased their innovations for society’s benefit during the two-day competition, which saw six teams from HCT colleges compete for the first prize of AED30,000.

An innovation which connects diabetic patients with caregivers via an interactive, online community, known as DiaLife was the winner of the 2013 competition. The Tournament’s 2nd prize of AED20, 000 went to the Egypt-based Madad - an online portal assisting the public to decide how and where to donate funds to charities by providing a gateway for all donations and thereby supporting organizations and NGOs in their contribution to society.

The elated team from HCT Fujairah Women’s College took out third prize of AED15, 000 for their creative entry of a Recycle Bin, which was based on the need to care for the environment at Khorfakkan. It encouraged people to recycle plastic bottles in return for shopping and gift coupons. Omar Ayyash, FWC Business faculty mentor said the students were thrilled with the win. “They have a real passion for creativity and innovation and this tournament was a perfect example of them learning by doing. We are able to show that entrepreneurship is a viable career option for our students and this tournament is a great opportunity for them to learn how to start their own businesses,” he said.

The fourth place prize of AED 10,000 went to the Student Initiative for Integrated Rural Development (SIIRD), based in Uttarakhand, India, which uses students’ volunteer work and input to help a rural village with different initiatives, such as boosting the local economy and improved educational opportunities.

The pinnacle of a student’s academic life is graduation and the HCT made the lives of its best graduates even more enjoyable with a ceremony to honour their efforts. The 10th Annual Abu Dhabi Industry Award was held in May when the thirty-one highest achieving 2012 graduates were recognised with industry-funded awards.

HE Mohammad Omran Al Shamsi, Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology, inaugurated the prestigious awards ceremony, where he delivered the keynote address in front of graduates, parents, faculty, staff and senior representatives of the Award’s 30 corporate sponsors. His Excellency congratulated the elite graduates for their achievements in their studies, which will help to boost the United Arab Emirates’ knowledge economy, as they get ready to take up roles as future nation builders. More than 300 students have received the award in its ten-year history.

The ADIA, which is part of the HCT’s 25th Anniversary celebrations this year, comprises significant cash awards to each graduate, are given annually to HCT final year students who are in the top 10 per cent of their graduating classes and professional program specialisations.

The vital role that technology plays at the HCT was underpinned at two major conferences in the latter part of 2012. The 1st Biennial Curriculum Conference and Curriculum Institute was hosted by HCT where delegates explored how the integration of technology, and the proliferation of mobile learning, has changed the way students are being taught in the UAE. Dr. Allan Goodman, President and CEO of the Institute of International Education, spoke about the benefits of using mobile technologies for learning. “They make possible rapid curriculum development as well as assessment. Teachers can better accommodate the variety of ways that students learn, and students can develop ways to know how well they are grasping the building blocks of any particular subject or theory.”

The Conference aimed to align tertiary curriculum for programmes, courses, and assessments to both nationally and internationally standardised and benchmarked learning outcomes, objectives, and goals. The other significant event was the First Annual Global Mobile Learning Congress held in conjunction with Apple Inc and looked at current practices and future trends and uses of mobile learning and transformative technologies.

The Congress was an important aspect of the ongoing relationship between HCT and Apple Inc. HE Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, then Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, described the collaborations with Apple

Inc a “bold initiative to improve teaching and learning by using mobile technology”. “We recognize the important potential of technological innovation in building national manpower capability, in promoting lifelong learning, and in helping the United Arab Emirates compete in the world economy. Our colleges and universities have a fundamental commitment to technology. We work to ensure that the technology is not only available but also educationally powerful,” he said.

Throughout its 25th Anniversary year, HCT has continued to showcase its technology-based educational practices and applied learning-by-doing educational programmes at various events, including GETEX, UAE Careers, Najah and the eleventh International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX), which featured displays from over 150 UAE-based and international companies. HCT has participated at IDEX since the event’s inception and this year’s open-plan stand is divided into sections catering for HCT, its commercial and entrepreneurial arm the Center for Applied Excellence in Research & Training (CERT), as well as featuring the Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed Naval College and the Khalifa Bin Zayed Air College.

HCT Students Journey to Antarctica in Environmental & Leadership Expedition

Abu Dhabi and Khalifa City Women’s Colleges Students Conquer Kilimanjaro

In March two intrepid students from HCT’s Madinat Zayed Women’s College embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to Antarctica, as part of an environmental awareness and leadership challenge.

The students, Budoor Al Ali (Electronics Engineering) and Mariam Al Hammadi (Business – Human Resources) and their chaperone HCT Western Region counsellor Rikke Eriksen, joined an expedition to Antarctica led by the organization 2041 – the brain child of explorer Sir Robert Swan, created to raise global awareness of the environmental importance of the southern continent. They were joined on the voyage by about 70 other students from around the world.

In the first leg of the their three-week journey the HCT team reached the most southerly town in the world – Ushuaia in the far south of Argentina and often described as the “End of the World“ - the disembarkation point for Antarctica. Before joining the ship Budoor and Mariam prepared for the world of ice by acclimatized to the freezing conditions, as well learning to trek on glaciers. Unfortunately for Mariam she broke her leg in Ushuaia while training for the expedition and had to return home for further medical attention.

Niall Farrell, HCT Western Region colleges Director, said the trip was a wonderful opportunity for HCT students to learn about the world, the environment and about leadership. “Our students have already achieved so much and they have taken up the challenge of learning by doing, where they will be able to adapt what they have learned on this trip into their studies and their own journeys through education and employment,” he said.

Budoor said about participating on the trip: “It will be a source of pride for me to go to Antarctica as an Emirati woman. It is a chance to show everyone that women can do anything. The most important thing is that it’s something which comes from inside, from my soul, that is driving me to want to be involved in this expedition and to help spread the message about sustainability.”

Budoor and Mariam were sponsored by Al Hosn Gas, as part of its ongoing partnership with the Higher Colleges of Technology.

A group of nine students and three faculty members from HCT’s Abu Dhabi and Khalifa City Women’s Colleges made history in April by becoming the first student group of female Emiratis to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania - Africa’s highest mountain at 5895m.

The seven-day journey saw the climbers camping in temperatures of minus 15-20 degrees Celsius and breathing oxygen-thin air. Team members had trained for months before attempting the gruelling trek. “I felt proud when I reached the summit. It’s an unforgettable feeling, full of memories and feelings of the challenges and obstacles we faced on the way up. This was a completely different journey,” a student Amina said.

One of the principal aims of the ascent of Kilimanjaro was to raise money in support of girls’ education in Tanzania, with the students visiting a government secondary school as part of the trip.

Engineering Students Design Ultra-Fuel Efficient Cars For Global CompetitionEngineering Technology students at HCT Dubai Men’s College, Abu Dhabi Men’s College and Ruwais Colleges are putting classroom theories into practice as they design and built ultra-fuel-efficient cars as competitors in the 2013 Shell Global Eco-Marathon competition, which was to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in July.The Dubai Men’s College (DMC) team has developed a slim-line eco-car weighing only 25 kg, named Eco-Dubai 1. It is 50cm wide, 2m long and 50cm high and will fit only one driver, and hope their entry will travel up to 1,000km on the single litre of fuel. The record to break is close to 4,900km, which was set by a team from the Polytech Nantes University in France.The Shell Eco-Marathon competition is an annual student-based event, attracting teams from around the world, where entrants have to design, build and race their prototype vehicles to travel the farthest distance on one litre of fuel. Teams can use solar power, electricity (battery) or hybrid concepts to power their vehicles. There will be seven UAE teams competing in the global challenge. “This is a unique opportunity which enables our students to apply their engineering and project management experience to a real time project with global implications. It is very much in keeping with HCT’s philosophy of learning by doing,” Dr Tayeb Kamali, HCT Vice Chancellor, said. The event was postponed to 2014 due to bad weather.

HCT’s Got (Academic) Talent at Annual Nikai Awards Innovation, dedication and passion were celebrated by the Higher Colleges of Technology at the 2012/13 Nikai Student and Faculty Awards for excellence.

The Nikai Awards are sponsored annually by the Nikai Group which supports innovation in education by HCT students and faculty members who demonstrate great aptitude, creativity and dedication to their studies and fields of endeavour. In the student category judges consider the criteria of academic excellence, community service, significant contributions to student life and college activities, and awards/distinctions received. The Nikai Faculty Awards were given to innovative programmes, projects or initiatives which enhance student learning and skills.

The winner of this year’s Nikai Student Award was Mariam Mohammed Abdulla Husain Marzooqi of Al Ain Women’s College (AAWC) for her academic excellence, community service and contributions to the college. It was the third consecutive year that a student from AAWC won the annual student prize.

The Nikai Faculty Award for Semester 1 was awarded to Shankar Subramani from Dubai Women’s College for his innovative project i-Connect-V-Learn, while the Faculty Award for Semester 2 went to Guy Brooksbank of Dubai Men’s College for the group, student-centred activity The Dubai Student Film Festival (DSFF): Embedded Scaffolding in Event–Specific, Student-Centred Learning.

HCT’s Movie Makers ‘Steal The Show’ @ Regional Film Festivals

HCT Faculty Show They Are The Best Of The Best

The strength of HCT’s Applied Communications & Media programmes, and the prodigious talent of its students, were highlighted with its large presence at the 2013 6th Gulf Film Festival held in Dubai, from April 11-17.

A total of eleven HCT students’ films were short-listed for screening at the prestigious annual competition. The students were from Sharjah Women’s College, RAK Colleges, Abu Dhabi Women’s College and HCT Dubai Colleges, and all entries received high praise for the quality of the students’ creativity. The following students received awards for their entries:

• Best Film Gulf Student Shorts & Best Director Gulf Student Shorts - Ebrahim Naajem Al Rasbi of RAK Men’s College- Moments

• New York Film Academy Award for the most promising film maker in the Emirates Student Film Competition - Fatima Al Baloushi of Abu Dhabi Women’s College - In case you Forget, and Fatema Abdulla of RAK Women’s College – Thaba.

Fatima and Fatema each win a four-week scholarship programme for Filmmaking at the New York Film Academy from September, 2013. Fatima’s previous film Save the Water won third place at the Habib Al Reda Media Awards.

Dr Fazal Malik, HCT Associate Dean of Applied Communications, said the students’ entries were all of very high standard, which was a strong reflection on the students themselves and the Applied Communications programme.

Moreover, five Abu Dhabi Women’s College student-made films have been screened at film festivals in the Gulf region, including the 6th Gulf Film Festival, the Abu Dhabi International Environmental Film Festival (ADIEFF), the Zayed University Middle East Film Festival (ZUMEFF), and We Care Film Fest 2013, affiliated with the Dubai International Film Festival.

The industry recognition of HCT Applied Communications students’ work was also evident at the 2012 Abu Dhabi Film Festival with the following films winning awards:

• Abdulrahman Al Madani (Dubai Men’s College) 2nd in Student Short Documentary section - The Gamboo3a Revolution

• Fatima Musharbek (Sharjah Women’s

It was not the first time Abdulrahman tasted success with his documentary; winning third place at the 5th Gulf Film Festival student short film competition. Fatima Musharbek is no stranger to major film festivals, having won the Best Documentary Award at the 10th St. Petersburg Student Film Festival for her acclaimed documentary Rabbit Hole.

“This recognition of Emirati talent illustrates the fact that the HCT's focus on 'leaning by doing' prepares students to take part and win awards at international competitions like ADFF, “Dr Malik said.

A long-serving and highly valued faculty member at Abu Dhabi Men’s College, Julie Richards was awarded an MBE by HM Queen Elizabeth II, for her contribution to "UK Education overseas". The honour is in recognition of Julie's role as Chair of the Board of Governors at the British School Al Khubairat, which she has carried out in an honorary capacity for ten years. Under Julie's stewardship the school has expanded greatly, and marked as outstanding by the UK's Independent Schools inspection process.

She was “absolutely thrilled” with the MBE, but said she couldn’t have done it without the support of her family as being chair means having to multi-task all the time as a teacher, administrator, parent and partner. Julie added that her parents,

who had instilled in her a strong sense of integrity and leadership, were extremely proud of her achievements.

She joined the BSAK Board of Governors ten years ago as a trained high school teacher, as well as being the board’s only female member. Julie believes in leadership by consensus and prefers to help guide others in her team when a decision has to be made.

She is also a strong advocate for the use of technology in the classroom and uses it extensively in her teaching of English at Abu Dhabi Men’s College. Julie has a Master’s in Education Management and is studying for her Doctorate of Education at Exeter University, UK. She has been working at HCT for 16 years and lived in the UAE for about 19.

In other news, the HCT Abu Dhabi Men’s and Women’s Colleges were recognised for their contributions to the Middle East’s enterprise IT sector at the eighth annual Arabian Computer News Arab Technology Awards.

The Arab Technology Awards recognise world-class projects and implementations, leading vendor contributions and outstanding individual efforts.

The HCT team was the winner of the Public Sector Service Implementation of the Year Award, after ADMC and ADWC faculty and staff, in collaboration with Huawei, established a research and teaching cloud computing infrastructure.

الشرف أيضا تقديرا لدورها بصفتها رئيس مجلس أمناء

مدرسة الخبيرات البريطانية، حيث حملت هذه المسؤولية

الفخرية بصفة شرفية لمدة عشر سنوات. وتحت إشراف

جولي، شهدت المدرسة توسعا ملحوظا، حيث تبوأت القمة

وفقا لعملية التقييم التي أجريت ضمن عملية التفتيش التي

تجرى للمدارس المستقلة في المملكة المتحدة.

أعربت جولي عن سعادتها البالغة لحصولها على وسام

عضوية االمبراطورية البريطانية، ولكنها لم تحقق ذلك إال

بدعم كبير من عائلتها، حيث أن موقعها كرئيس يعني أنها

تتحمل مسؤولية العديد من المهام التي تحتاج إلى كل

الوقت، فهي تعمل كمدرسة، ومسؤولة إدارية، وربة منزل وأم

في نفس الوقت. وأضافت جولي أن لوالديها فضل كبير حيث

قاموا بغرس مبادئ النزاهة والمهارات القيادية وهم اآلن

يشعرون بالفخر الشديد بنجاحها وإنجازاتها الكبيرة.

إنضمت جولي إلى مجلس أمناء مدرسة الخبيرات البريطانية

منذ عشر سنوات كمدرسة على مستوى عال من التدريب،

فضال عن كونها األنثى الوحيدة في المجلس. تؤمن جولي

بمبدأ توافق اآلراء حسب األغلبية وتفضل المساعدة في

توجيه اآلخرين في فريقها عند الحاجة التخاذ قرار. وتعتبر

جولي أيضا مناصرة الستخدام التكنولوجيا في الفصل

الدراسي، حيث تستخدمها على نطاق واسع في تعليمها للغة

اإلنجليزية في كلية أبو ظبي للطالب.

حصلت جولي على درجة الماجستير في إدارة التعليم،

وتحضر للحصول على درجة الدكتوراه في التربية في جامعة

إكستر في المملكة المتحدة. وقد عملت جولي في كليات

التقنية العليا لمدة 16 عاما، وعاشت في دولة اإلمارات

العربية المتحدة لمدة 19 عاما.

من جانب آخر، فقد حصلت كليات التقنية العليا للطالب

والطالبات في أبوظبي على جائزة أفضل تقنية عربية، نظرا

لمساهماتها في تكنولوجيا المعلومات لقطاع األعمال في

الشرق األوسط.

وتمنح جوائز التقنية العربية ألفضل المشاريع واالنجازات

والتطبيقات ذات المستويات العالمية، إضافة إلى مساهمات

الشركات الرائدة كما تمنح أيضا للجهود الفردية المتميزة.

وقد فاز فريق كليات التقنية العليا بجائزة العام ألفضل منفذ

لخدمات القطاع العام بعد التعاون المثمر بين الهيئتين

التدريسية واإلدارية بكليات التقنية العليا للطالب والطالبات

في أبوظبي وبين شركة هواي لتوفير حلول للتدريس وبحوث

البنية التحتية للحوسبة السحابية.

برزت مواهب طلبة كليات التقنية العليا الدارسين في برامج

االتصال التطبيقي في مهرجان الخليج السينمائي 2013

الذي عقد في دبي خالل الفترة من 11-17 أبريل 2013.

وتجدر اإلشارة إلى أنه سيتم عرض األحد عشر فيلما

التي شارك بها طلبة كليات التقنية العليا من كلية الشارقة

للطالبات، وكليات التقنية العليا في رأس الخيمة، وكلية

أبوظبي للطالبات، وكليات التقنية العليا في دبي، في

المسابقة السنوية البارزة. وقد استحوذت جميع األفالم

المشاركة على التقدير والثناء على إبداعات الطلبة وجودة

االنتاج. وقد حصل العديد من الطلبة على جوائز لقاء

مشاركتهم وهي:

جائزة أفضل فيلم خليجي قصير للطلبة وجائزة أفضل •مخرج خليجي لألفالم القصيرة للطلبة

وقد حصل على الجائزتين الطالب إبراهيم ناجم الراسبي

من كلية رأس الخيمة للطالب عن فيلم" لحظات"

جائزة أكاديمية نيويورك للسينما للمواهب الواعدة في •صناعة األفالم في مسابقة أفالم طلبة اإلمارات

وقد حصلت على هذه الجائزة كل من الطالبتين فاطمة

البلوشي من كلية أبو ظبي للطالبات وفاطمة عبدالله من كلية

رأس الخيمة للطالبات.

وقد فازت كل من الطالبتين فاطمة البلوشي وفاطمة عبد

الله بمنحة دراسية في برنامج صناعة السينما لمدة أربعة

أسابيع في أكاديمية نيويورك للسينما تبدأ في سبتمبر

2013. ونذكر أن الفيلم السابق للطالبة فاطمة البلوشي بعنوان "حافظوا على المياه" قد فاز بالمركز الثالث ضمن

جوائز حبيب آل رضا لإلبداع اإلعالمي.

وأشار الدكتور فضل مالك، العميد المساعد في برنامج

االتصال التطبيقي بكليات التقنية العليا، إلى المستويات

العالية لطلبة كليات التقنية العليا، مما يعكس تميز الطلبة

وفي نفس الوقت جودة برنامج االتصال التطبيقي.

ومن جهة أخرى، قامت خمسة طالبات كلية أبو ظبي

للطالبات بصناعة أفالم تم عرضها في مهرجانات لألفالم في

منطقة الخليج، ومنها مهرجان الخليج السينمائي في دورته

السادسة في أبوظبي، ومهرجان أبوظبي الدولي ألفالم البيئة،

ومهرجان جامعة زايد السينمائي للشرق األوسط، والمهرجان

السينمائي "نحن نهتم 2013" الذي يقام ضمن مهرجان

دبي السينمائي الدولي.

وقد تجلى الفوز الذي حققته صناعة أفالم طلبة برنامج

االتصال التطبيقي في كليات التقنية العليا، في مهرجان

أبوظبي لألفالم 2012، مع الحصول على الجوائز التالية:

وأضاف الدكتور مالك أن هذه التجربة ال تعتبر األولى

بالنسبة لعبد الرحمن، حيث حظي بنجاح فيلمه الوثائقي

وحصوله على المركز الثالث ضمن فئة األفالم القصيرة

للطالب في مهرجان الخليج السينمائي الخامس. وأما

الطالبة فاطمة مشربك، فهي ليست غريبة أيضا عن

مهرجانات األفالم، حيث فازت بجائزة أفضل فيلم وثائقي في

مهرجان سانت بيترسبيرج لألفالم عن فيلمها الوثائقي "جحر

األرنب".

إن االعتراف بالمواهب اإلماراتية يوضح حقيقة هامة بأن

تركيز كليات التقنية العليا على نهج التعلم بالممارسة يؤهل

الطلبة للمشاركة والفوز بجوائز في مسابقات عالمية، مثل

مهرجان أبوظبي السينمائي وغيرها.

عرض فيلم طالب برنامج اإلعالم التطبيقي في كلية

أبوظبي للطالب في مهرجان كان السينمائي

جلس رافد الحارثي، أحد الطلبة الموهوبين الدارسين

في برنامج اإلعالم التطبيقي في كلية أبو ظبي للطالب،

في الصفوف األمامية أثناء عرض فيلمه بعنوان "إطعام

خمسمائة " ضمن فئة األفالم العربية القصيرة في

مهرجان كان السينمائي 2013، الذي يعد أكبر وأعرق

مهرجان لصناعة السينما في العالم.

أعرب الجمهور عن بالغ تقديره واهتمامه لهذا الفيلم الذي

قامت برعاية إنتاجه شركة twofour54. ويعد رافد

العربية المتحدة، حيث يشاهد البرامج التي يقدمها

الماليين من المشاهدين على قناة أبوظبي، منها برنامج

"مهنتي" وبرنامج "جمل دارك"، إضافة إلى برنامج لعرض

األزياء.

طالب الهندسة يصممون سيارات تستخدم وقود فائق الكفاءة ضمن مسابقة عالمية

قام عدد من طالب برنامج تكنولوجيا الهندسة في كل من كلية دبي للطالب وكلية أبوظبي للطالب وكليات الرويس بتطبيق

النظريات المكتسبة أثناء الدراسة من خالل تصميم وبناء سيارات فائقة الكفاءة في استهالك الوقود، وذلك ضمن مسابقة

شركة شل "ماراثون شل البيئي العالمي 2013"، المزمع عقده في كوااللمبور في ماليزيا خالل يوليو المقبل.

في هذا اإلطار، نجح فريق كلية دبي للطالب في تطوير مركبة خفيفة صديقة للبيئة تزن 25 كيلوجرام فقط، أطلق على

هذه المركبة اسم "إيكو دبي 1" ويصل طولها إلى نحو مترين وعرضها 50 سم وارتفاعها 50 سم أيضا وتتسع للسائق

فقط. ويأمل الفريق أن تقطع المركبة مسافة تصل إلى 1000 كيلومتر باستخدام لتر واحد من الوقود. ولكسر الرقم

القياسي، يجب أن تقطع المركبة مسافة تقارب 4900 كيلومتر للتر الواحد من الوقود، وهو الرقم الذي سجله فريق

جامعة بوليتيك نانتس في فرنسا.

يقام ماراثون شل البيئي العالمي سنويا للطلبة ويستقطب الفرق من مختلف أنحاء العالم، حيث يتوجب على المشاركين

تصميم وبناء مركبات مطورة والدخول بها في سباق لقطع أطول مسافة ممكنة باستخدام لتر واحد من الوقود. ويمكن

للفرق استخدام الطاقة الشمسية والكهرباء )البطارية( أو مفاهيم مهجنة لتشغيل مركباتهم.

تشارك في هذه المسابقة العالمية سبعة فرق من دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة. وفي معرض تعليقه على هذا الحدث

الهام، قال الدكتور طيب كمالي، مدير مجمع كليات التقنية العليا، أن ماراثون شل البيئي العالمي يعتبر فرصة فريدة من

نوعها تتيح لطالب الكليات إبراز مواهبهم وقدرتهم على االبتكار من خالل تطبيق خبرتهم التي اكتسبوها في الهندسة

وإدارة المشاريع وتنفيذها ضمن مشروع عالمي، وذلك تماشيا مع الفلسفة التعليمية لكليات التقنية العليا المتمثلة في

التعلم بالممارسة.

جائزة نيكاي لإلبداع األكاديمي تمنح لألكاديميين والطلبة المبدعين

احتفلت كليات التقنية العليا باالبداع والتفاني والحماسة في حفل توزيع جوائز نيكاي لإلبداع األكاديمي للطلبة وأعضاء هيئة التدريس المتميزين للعام 2013/2012.

تمنح جائزة نيكاي لإلبداع األكاديمي سنويا تحت رعاية "مجموعة نيكاي" التي تدعم األعمال التعليمية اإلبداعية للطلبة وأعضاء هيئة التدريس في كليات التقنية العليا الذين

يظهرون االستعداد الكبير واإلبداع والتفاني في دراساتهم ومجاالت اختصاصهم.

يتم اختيار الطلبة الفائزين بناء على عدة معايير تضعها لجنة التحكيم، منها التفوق األكاديمي، وخدمة المجتمع، والمساهمات المتميزة في الحياة الطالبية وأنشطة الكلية، إضافة

إلى الجوائز واإلمتيازات الممنوحة للطالب أثناء الدراسة. أما بالنسبة لجوائز أعضاء هيئة التدريس فهي تمنح تكريما إلنجازاتهم في البرامج أو المشاريع أو المبادرات المبتكرة

التي تعزز المهارات والتعلم لدى الطلبة.

وضمن جوائز هذا العام، فازت الطالبة مريم محمد عبدالله حسين المرزوقي من كلية العين للطالبات عن تميزها األكاديمي والخدمات التي قدمتها للمجتمع ومساهمتها في

أنشطة الكلية. وتجدر اإلشارة إلى أن هذا العام هو الثالث على التوالي الذي تفوز به طالبة من كلية العين للطالبات بجائزة الطلبة السنوية.

" i-Connect-V-Learn " أما جائزة نيكاي المقدمة ألعضاء هيئة التدريس، فقد منحت هذا العام لـ شانكار سوبراماني من كلية دبي للطالبات تكريما لمشروعه اإلبداعي

بينما فاز بجائزة الفصل الدراسي الثاني الممنوحة ألعضاء هيئة التدريس، جاي بروكسبانك من كلية دبي للطالب، تكريما لكفاءته وإبداعه في تنظيم الفعالية الطالبية في مهرجان

دبي ألفالم الطلبة.



رحلة طالبات كليات التقنية العليا إلى القارة القطبية

طالبات كليات التقنية العليا في أبوظبي ومدينة خليفة يرفعن علم

اإلمارات على قمة كلمنجارو

في مارس الماضي قامت طالبتان من كليات التقنية العليا للطالبات بمدينة زايد

بالمنطقة الغربية برحلة استكشافية إلى القارة القطبية الجنوبية " أنتاركتيكا " وذلك

ضمن حملة لزيادة الوعي البيئي والمهارات القيادية.

قامت الطالبتان بدور العلي في برنامج الهندسة اإللكترونية ومريم الحمادي في برنامج

إدارة األعمال تخصص الموارد البشرية بصحبة المرشدة الطالبية في كليات التقنية

العليا بالمنطقة الغربية ريكي إيريكسون، بالمشاركة في رحلة إلى القارة القطبية

الجنوبية بتنظيم من منظمة "2041" التي أسسها المستكشف السير روبرت سوان

بهدف زيادة الوعي العالمي باألهمية البيئية للقارة القطبية الجنوبية. وقد انضم الفريق

اإلماراتي إلى فريق يضم 70 طالب وطالبة من مختلف أنحاء العالم.

في المحطة األولى من الرحلة انطلقت الطالبتان بدور ومريم إلى أوشوايا في أقصى

جنوب األرجنتين، وهي أقصى مدينة في جنوب العالم وتعد بأنها "آخر بقعة في العالم"

وذلك قبل متابعة الرحلة إلى أنتاركتيكا. وقبيل االنضمام للسفينة استعدت الطالبتان

بدور ومريم للتكيف مع عالم الجليد وظروف الجو المتجمد، وتعلم المشي على األنهار

الجليدية، ولكن لسوء حظ الطالبة مريم فقد كسرت ساقها في أوشوايا أثناء التدريب

الذي أجري ألفراد الحملة واضطرت للعودة إلى الوطن لحاجتها إلى مزيد من الرعاية

الطبية.

إن الرحلة كانت فرصة رائعة لطلبة كليات التقنية العليا للتعرف على العالم والبيئة

واكتساب المهارات القيادية. وقد حقق طلبة الكليات الكثير من اإلنجازات واتبعوا

نهج التعلم بالممارسة الذي يمكنهم من تطبيق ما تعلموه خالل هذه الرحلة في حياتهم

األكاديمية والشخصية من خالل التعليم والعمل.

من جانبها قالت بدور العلي حول المشاركة في الرحلة، أنه لمبعث فخر لها السفر إلى

القارة القطبية الجنوبية كامرأة إماراتية، حيث أنها فرصة سانحة إلبراز قدرة المرأة

على القيام بأي عمل. وأضافت أن األكثر أهمية هو أن الرغبة في المشاركة تأتي من

الداخل حيث تدفعها روحها للمشاركة في هذه الحملة للمساعدة في نشر الرسالة حول

االستدامة.

وقد جاءت مشاركة الطالبتان بدور ومريم في هذه الحملة برعاية كريمة من شركة

الحصن للغاز، وذلك في إطار شراكتها المهنية المستمرة مع كليات التقنية العليا.

في شهر أبريل من العام 2013 تمكن فريق ضم تسع طالبات وثالثة أعضاء من

هيئة التدريس في كليات التقنية العليا للطالبات في كل من أبوظبي ومدينة خليفة

من تسلق الجبال، ليصبح أول فريق من الطالبات اإلماراتيات الالتي يتسلقن جبل

كلمنجارو في تنزانيا، وهو أعلى جبل في أفريقيا يصل ارتفاعه إلى 5895 مترا.

استغرقت الرحلة الشاقة سبعة أيام في درجات حرارة بلغت ما بين 15 – 20 درجة

مئوية تحت الصفر ومع انخفاض في نسبة األكسجين. تلقى الفريق التدريب لعدة

أشهر قبل القيام بهذه الرحلة المنهكة. وقد أعربت الطالبة أمينة، إحدى المشاركات

في الرحلة، أنها شعرت بالفخر عندما وصلت إلى قمة جبل كلمنجارو وأكدت أن هذا

الشعور ال ينسى بتاتا نظرا للذكريات والتحديات والعقبات التي واجهت الفريق أثناء

الصعود. لقد كانت هذه الرحلة تجربة مختلفة تماما بالنسبة لها.

ومن أهم أهداف رحلة تسلق جبل كلمنجارو جمع األموال لدعم تعليم الفتيات في

تنزانيا. وقد قامت الطالبات خالل الرحلة بزيارة إلحدى المدارس الثانوية الحكومية.



أن الطالبات كن متحمسات بالفوز. وأضاف قائال: "إن

لديهن شغف حقيقي لإلبداع واالبتكار وكن في هذه الدورة

خير مثال لفلسفة التعلم بالممارسة. ونحن قادرون على

إثبات أن تنفيذ المشاريع واألفكار الجديدة والمبتكرة هو

خيار حيوي ومهم كمجال يعمل فيه طلبتنا لتعلم كيفية بدء

األعمال الخاصة."

أما جائزة المركز الرابع بقيمة 10,000 درهم فقد

ذهبت إلى مبادرة الطالب للتنمية الريفية المتكاملة

)سييرد( ومقرها الهند والتي تستفيد من أعمال ومدخالت

الطالب التطوعية لمساعدة القرى الريفية من خالل العديد

من المبادرات، مثل تعزيز اإلقتصاد المحلي وتحسين

فرص التعليم.

كما وأقامت كليات التقنية العليا حفال لتكريم جهود أفضل

خريجيها مما جعل حياتهم الجامعية أكثر متعة. حيث

أقيم الحفل السنوي العاشر لجائزة أبو ظبي للصناعة في

شهر مايو حيث تم تكريم أحد وثالثين طالبا من أفضل

خريجي عام 2012.

وقد افتتح معالي محمد حسن عمران الشامسي، رئيس

كليات التقنية العليا، حفل الجوائز الهام حيث قدم الكلمة

اإلفتتاحية أمام الخريجين وأولياء األمور والكلية وهيئة

التدريس وكبار ممثلي 30 شركة راعية للجوائز. كما

هنأ معاليه نخبة الخريجين على إنجازاتهم الدراسية

والتي سوف تساعد على تعزيز المعرفة اإلقتصادية لدولة

اإلمارات العربية المتحدة حيث أنهم يستعدون ألخذ

دورهم الحيوي في مسيرة التنمية والتطوير بالدولة. وقد

تسلم الجائزة في عامها العاشر أكثر من 300 طالب.

م جهاز أبوظبي لالستثمار، والذي باإلضافة الى ذلك قد

يشكل جزءا من اإلحتفال السنوي الـ 25 لكليات التقنية

العليا، جوائز نقدية متميزة لكل خريج تعطى سنويا

لـ 10% من أوائل السنة األخيرة من كافة البرامج

الدراسية.

وفي الجزء األخير من عام 2012 ومن خالل مؤتمرين

كبيرين تم التركيز على الدور الحيوي الذي تلعبه

التكنولوجيا في كليات التقنية العليا. فقد استضافت كليات

التقنية العليا مؤتمر المناهج األول والذي يعقد مرة كل

عامين ومعهد المناهج حيث تبين للوفود كيف أن التكامل

التكنولوجي والتعليم النقال قد غير الطريقة التي يتعلم بها

الطالب في دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة. وقد تحدث

د. أالن جودمان، رئيس معهد التعليم الدولي والمدير

التنفيذي، عن فوائد استخدام تكنولوجيا الهاتف النقال في

التعليم. "فهي توفر التطور السريع للمناهج وللتقييم أيضا.

حيث يستطيع المعلمون أن يتكيفوا مع الطريقة التي

يتعلم بها الطالب، والطالب يمكنهم استيعاب المكونات

األساسية ألي موضوع أو نظرية بطرائق وأساليب

جديدة."

كما استهدف المؤتمر وضع مناهج جامعية للبرامج

والدورات والتقييمات موازية لنتائج وأغراض وأهداف

التعليم وفق المعايير والمستويات العالمية. والفعالية

المميزة الثانية كانت المؤتمر السنوي العالمي األول

للتعليم النقال 2012 والذي عقد باإلشتراك مع شركة

أبل حيث تم النظر في الممارسات الحالية واإلتجاهات

العالمية واستخدامات الهاتف االنقال واآلي باد في

التعليم والتكنولوجيا التحويلية.

ويعتبر هذا المؤتمر جانبا هاما من العالقة المستمرة بين

كليات التقنية العليا وشركة أبل. وقد وصف معالي الشيخ

نهيان مبارك آل نهيان، وزير التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي

آنذاك، التعاون "كـمبادرة جريئة لتحسين التعليم والتعلم

باستخدام تكنولوجيا الهاتف النقال واآلي باد". وقال"نحن

نعترف باإلمكانيات الهامة لإلبتكار التكنولوجي في بناء

القدرات لأليدي العاملة الوطنية، وفي دعم التعلم المستمر،

وفي مساعدة دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة للمنافسة

في اإلقتصاد العالمي. فكلياتنا وجامعاتنا لديها التزام

أساسي بالتكنولوجيا. ونحن نعمل لضمان أن التكنولوجيا

ليست فقط متوفرة ولكن أيضا مؤثرة تعليميا".

وفي عامها الخامس والعشرين استمرت كليات التقنية

العليا في إظهار ممارساتها التعليمية القائمة على

التكنولوجيا ونهج التعلم بالممارسة في مختلف الفعاليات

التي تتميز بعروض من أكثر من 150 شركة محلية

وعالمية منها "جيتكس" ومعرض اإلمارات للوظائف ونجاة

ومعرض ومؤتمر الدفاع الدولي الحادي عشر )آيدكس(.

وقد شاركت كليات التقنية العليا ومركز التفوق لألبحاث

التطبيقية والتدريب )سيرت( في فعاليات )آيدكس( ، إلى

جانب إبراز كلية راشد بن محمد البحرية وكلية خليفة بن

زايد الجوية.

مبادرات تعزيز نهج االبتكار واإلبداع

تعد إستضافة المؤتمرات والمسابقات والمنتديات العالمية

جانبا حيويا من فلسفة كليات التقنية العليا حيث تهدف

هذه األحداث البارزة إلى توفير خبرات التعلم بالممارسة

للطلبة وإتاحة الفرصة لهم للعمل مع خبراء عالميين

والتعلم منهم، باإلضافة إلى التواصل مع أقرانهم من

جميع أنحاء العالم. كما تعد أيضا فرصة ممتازة لإلحتفاء

باإلنجازات المتميزة لطلبة كليات التقنية العليا.

ينتظر الجميع مسابقة التحدي واالبتكار السنوية بفارغ

الصبر والتي تنظمها كليات التقنية العليا بالتعاون مع

شركة نورثروب جرومان وشركة أبوظبي االستثمارية

لألنظمة الذاتية. وتقوم فرق من طالب كليات التقنية العليا

بالمنافسة في تصميم وبناء وسباق الطيران األوتوماتيكي

أمام فرق أخرى.

وبعد شهور من اإللتزام والعمل الشاق والعزيمة تسابقت

الفرق األحد عشر على أرض ملعب زايد للكريكيت في

أبوظبي على مدار يومين في شهر أبريل. وواصل فريق

"إيمارتس روبوتيكس" من كلية دبي للطالب سيطرته

على التحدي وحاز على جائزة المركز األول، وتاله

فريق "سبيريت أوف العين" في المركز الثاني. وسوف

يسافر كال الفريقين إلى واشنطن العاصمة في شهر

أغسطس 2013 للحضور والتقديم في اجتماع رابطة

أنظمة الطائرات بدون طيار الدولية )AUVSI( ألمريكا

الشمالية. وتأتي هاتين الجائزتين برعاية شركة نورثروب

جرومان.

وقد فاز فريق ”إيمارتس روبوتيكس“ بالتحدي االفتتاحي

في عام 2011 في حين أن فريق "سبيريت أوف العين"

كان أول فريق مختلط من الجنسين يفوز بالرحلة إلى

واشنطن العاصمة، وأول فريق في التاريخ القصير

لمسابقة التحدي واالبتكار ينهي بنجاح هبوط أوتوماتيكي

محدد مكانيا. وسيسافر فريق "سفن ستارز اوف العين"

الحاصل على المركز الثالث عبر البحار لزيارة إحدى

منشآت شركة أبوظبي اإلستثمارية لألنظمة الذاتية. وكانت

الجوائز كالتالي:

وقد تواضع يوسف الكويتي عضو فريق "سفن سييز"

بنجاح الفريق قائال "نحن جميعا _نحن وفريق "سبيريت

اوف العين_ نعمل سويا". نحن كلية صغيرة ولكننا عائلة

واحدة كبيرة، ولذا إنه شيء عظيم أن نساعد بعضنا

البعض. ولهذا نحن نقوم بعمل جيد". وأضافت السيدة

زينب الحساني وهي عضو في فريق "سبيريت اوف العين"

انهم كانوا جميعا سعداء بالنتيجة. "لم نذهب إلى الواليات

المتحدة األمريكية من قبل ولذا فستكون هذه الرحلة

إلى واشنطن مذهلة بالنسبة لنا. وسوف نرى ونتعلم

الكثير. نحن متحمسون لما حققناه. فقد كان فريقنا جيدا

بالفعل."

شارك طالب كليات التقنية العليا في شهر مايو في

مسابقة التحدي واإلبتكار حيث تنافسوا مع فرق من

منطقة الشرق األوسط والهند في مسابقة وارتن لالبتكار

– كليات التقنية العليا 2013، حيث قام أحد عشر فريقا بعرض أعماله اإلبداعية في مسابقة استمرت يومين

اشترك فيها ستة فرق من كليات التقنية العليا تنافسوا

على الجائزة األولى البالغة قيمتها 30,000 درهم.

االبتكار الحاصل على جائزة المركز األول يربط مرضى

السكر بمقدمي الرعاية عن طريق مجتمع تفاعلي على

شبكة اإلنترنت يعرف باسم "DiaLife"، في حين

ذهبت جائزة المركز الثاني وقيمتها 20,000 درهم

إلى البوابة اإللكترونية القائمة في مصر المعروفة بإسم

"مدد" لمساعدة الجمهور في أن يقرر كيف وأين يتبرع

باألموال للجمعيات الخيرية، وذلك عن طريق توفير مدخل

إلى كافة المنظمات الداعمة للتبرعات والعالج، باإلضافة

إلى المؤسسات الغير حكومية وذلك كمساهمة منهم في

المجتمع.

وعبر فريق كليات التقنية العليا للطالبات بالفجيرة عن

بالغ السرور بجائزة المركز الثالث بقيمة 15,000

درهم على المشاركة اإلبداعية المسماة "سلة المهمالت"

والتي جاءت على أساس الحاجة لرعاية البيئة في منطقة

خورفكان. فقد شجعت الناس على إعادة تدوير الزجاجات

البالستيكية مقابل كوبونات التسوق والهدايا. وقال عمر

عياش، موجه كلية األعمال في كلية الفجيرة للطالبات،

وستكون كافة برامج الدبلوم التطبيقي ذات توجه مهني، وستؤكد على كال من النظريات العملية والتطبيقية، كما ستشمل توجيهات قائمة على المشروع، وعلى الطلبة إتمام

متطلبات الخبرة العملية الميدانية.

قال د. فيل كويرك، مدير إدارة الشؤون األكاديمية بكليات التقنية العليا، أن تركيز برامج الدبلوم التطبيقي سوف يكون على الطبيعة "التطبيقية" للتعليم استجابة لطلب

لطالما كانت فلسفة التعلم بالممارسة هي السمة المميزة للتعليم والتعلم في كليات التقنية العليا منذ تأسيسها.

والهدف من هذا النهج العملي في التعليم هو تعزيز مشاركة وتفاعل الطلبة في العملية التعليمية.

يكتسب الطالب من خالل نهج التعلم بالممارسة المعرفة األساسية والمهارات عن طريق المشاركة الفاعلة التي تعكس

ذات الطالب مع العالم المحيط به داخل الفصل وخارجه، مما يزيد فرصة تعلم المفاهيم وتذكرها واستخدامها في

مختلف المواقف. فالهدف من التأكيد المستمر من كليات التقنية العليا على هذه العملية هو ضمان جودة وفعالية

نظامها التعليمي والمساعدة في تحديد ما يميز كليات التقنية العليا عن غيرها من المؤسسات التعليمية.

وقد تم مراجعة البرامج الدراسية المقدمة في كليات التقنية العليا لضمان تعزيزها وتجسيدها لفلسفة التعلم

بالممارسة والتي تتميز بستة مبادئ أساسية:

وكان إطالق المبادرة اإلتحادية للتعليم باستخدام التعليم النقال وأجهزة اآلي باد في سبتمبر 2012 أول تجسيد

لمشروع فلسفة التعليم بالممارسة. وكان من ضمن أمثلة نظام التعليم بالممارسة المستخدمة مؤتمر المناهج ومعهد

المناهج الذي تم عقده في نوفمبر الماضي والذي استعرض تحوال كبيرا إلى مشاريع تعليم إلكتروني أكثر تفاعلية

للطلبة، باإلضافة إلى سلسلة فعاليات iCelebrate التدريبية الوطنية.

وسيكون التنفيذ النهائي لبرامج الدبلوم التطبيقي الجديدة لكليات التقنية العليا مرحلة غاية في األهمية من فلسفة

التعليم بالممارسة. فقد تم تصميم هذه البرامج بطريقة تكسب الطالب المهارات التقنية ذات الصلة بالعمل من خالل

برنامج مدته ثالث سنوات. وسوف تؤهلهم تلك البرامج لاللتحاق ببرامج البكالوريوس في العلوم التطبيقية.

مهدي علي حسن رضا: تخرج مهدي من كلية دبي

للطالب وساهم في فوز منتخب اإلمارات الوطني في

دورة كأس الخليج 2013 التي أقيمت في البحرين.

ويعتبر مهدي أول إماراتي يتم تعيينه مديرا لمنتخب

اإلمارات الوطني بشكل دائم في 15 أغسطس 2012،

بعد النجاح الباهر الذي حققه كمدير للمنتخب الوطني

اإلماراتي في دورة األلعاب األولمبية.

تخصص مهدي علي في برنامج الهندسة الكهربائية

في كلية دبي للطالب حيث اكتسب المهارات القيادية

الالزمة إلدارة منتخب اإلمارات الوطني. بعد التخرج

عمل مهدي في بلدية دبي كما انضم إلى هيئة الطرق

والمواصالت )RTA( حيث شغل وظيفة مدير مواقف

السيارات وتولى تطوير مواقف السيارات ونظام تذاكر

المترو في دبي.

أسماء عبد الله العامري، محلل أول للتخطيط

االستراتيجي، جاسكو حصلت أسماء على

الدبلوم العالي في الخدمات المالية واألعمال

المصرفية من كلية أبو ظبي للطالبات وفازت

بجائزة أفضل طالبة، ومن ثم حصلت على

درجة البكالوريوس في إدارة األعمال في العام

.2008لقد حققت أسماء حلم طفولتها وهو استكمال

دراستها العليا وااللتحاق بكلية أبوظبي

للطالبات، وذلك بعد انقطاع عن الدراسة استمر

لمدة 10 سنوات منذ تخرجها من المدرسة

الثانوية.

وصفت أسماء شعارها في تحقيق أهدافها

في الحياة قائلة "أعتقد أنه عندما يكون هناك

إرادة، هناك وسيلة ... وما تحتاجه فقط هو أن

تتحلى باالندفاع وتحديد ما تريد تحقيقه وأن

تثق بنفسك وبقدراتك على تحقيق أهدافك ...ثابر

واستمر في المحاولة والنجاح سيكون حليفك".

حصل على الدبلوم العالي في إدارة األعمال

)التجارة اإللكترونية( مع مرتبة الشرف من كلية

الشارقة للطالب في العام 2004.

"أشعر بأنني لم أحقق ما يكفيني من النجاح،

فما زال لدي طموحات أود أن أحققها. في

بعض األحيان ال يوجد ضرر من الفشل فإنني

أعتبره تجربة أتعلم منها وتكسبني الخبرة ولن

أعود لتكرار نفس الخطأ نفسه مرة أخرى. ال

شيء يرضيني مثل تقاسم المعرفة والخبرة التي

اكتسبتها أثناء الدراسة في الكلية وفي الحياة

العملية بعد ذلك."

خريجو كليات التقنية العليا والمساهمة في نهضة وبناء الوطن

من خالل نظامها التعليمي اإلبداعي، ساهمت كليات التقنية العليا في تغيير حياة اآلالف من أبناء دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة، حيث نجحت في تخريج ما يزيد على 000 60

طالب وطالبة. وتفخر الكليات بتكريم خريجيها الذين يعتبرون مثاال مشرفا للنجاح واالحتفاء بإنجازاتهم المتميزة في حياتهم المهنية في شتى قطاعات الحكومة والتجارة والصناعة

والرياضة. ونورد هنا بعض التجارب الغنية وقصص النجاح التي رواها الخريجون.

عبد الله علي عبيد الفزاري : حصل عبدالله على الدبلوم العالي في تكنولوجيا

الهندسة الكهربائية بامتياز مع مرتبة الشرف من كلية أبو ظبي للطالب في

العام 2012، ومن ثم حصل على درجة البكالوريوس في العلوم التطبيقية في

تكنولوجيا الهندسة الكهربائية بامتياز مع مرتبة الشرف أيضا.

وتقديرا لتفوقه األكاديمي وحصوله على معدل عام 3.95، فاز بجائزة أبو ظبي

للصناعة 2013. ويعد عبدالله الطالب المثالي من حيث النزاهة واالستقامة

وحب التعلم. وخالل سنوات دراسته أبدى عبد الله شغفا بالتعلم مدى الحياة

واإلبداع من خالل عضويته في جمعية مهندسي الكهرباء واإللكترونيات

)IEEE( وحضوره للعديد من المؤتمرات الدولية المتصلة بالصناعات الحيوية

بالدولة. يعمل عبد الله حاليا كمهندس كهربائي في شركة أبوظبي للعمليات

البترولية البرية )أدكو( ويستخدم مهاراته التي اكتسبها أثناء الدراسة لتحصيل

خبرات أوسع في اختبار وصيانة وتطوير إنتاج النفط الخام في دولة اإلمارات

العربية المتحدة.

الذي أسند إلي وأستطيع أن أرى وجه الشبه مع حبي للرعاية الصحية. والتحدي الذي

أواجهه اآلن هو التقدم من العظيم إلى األعظم".

هدفها هو أن ترى التأثير الكبير لكليات التقنية العليا في الشارقة على القوى العاملة:

"أينما يذهب خريجونا إلى مجتمعاتهم وأماكن عملهم، سيحملون معهم مبادئ التميز

والعمل الجاد وسيصبحون قادة". وأضافت: "إننا سوف نغرس في نفوسهم فكرة التفوق

وقيادة أنفسهم والتأكد من أنهم قادرون على بلوغ أقصى طاقاتهم ".

ستتولى الدكتورة محدثة توجيه الطالبات وإسداء النصح إليهن: "أريد أن أغرس في

الطالبات مبدأ صعوبة أمور الحياة، فالحياة ليست دائما سهلة، وأقول لهن: عليكن

العمل بجد واجتهاد لتشقوا طريقكن بأنفسكن، ومسؤولية تقرير المصير تقع على

عاتقكن".

وفي الختام وجهت الدكتورة محدثة نصيحة إلى كل طالب وطالبة بضرورة تحديد

أهدافهم في الحياة: "إذا كان لديك حلم فال يوجد شيء يمنعك من تحقيقه، عليك تحقيق

ما تصبو إليه وال تستسلم رغم ما سيواجهك من عقبات ولكن ال تدعها تعرقل مسعاك

للوصول للنجاح. تحدى نفسك واستمر بالتعلم مدى الحياة فالمشوار طويل والعلم يدوم

مدى الحياة ".

قيادات أكاديمية متميزةمرت الثمانية عشر شهرا الماضية على الدكتور علي المنصوري بسرعة، فلقد تم تعيينه

مديرا لكليات رأس الخيمة، بعد أن أثبت قدراته اإلدارية في المنصب الذي شغله منذ

العام 2009 كمدير مساعد في نفس الكلية. وبعد توليه منصبه الجديد، شهد الحفل

الرسمي الفتتاح المبنى الجديد لكلية رأس الخيمة للطالبات البالغة تكلفته 130 مليون

درهم، دشنه صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، نائب رئيس الدولة، رئيس

مجلس الوزراء، حاكم دبي.

ويعتبر الدكتور المنصوري أول أكاديمي إماراتي يلتحق ببرنامج الزمالة في المجلس

األمريكي للتعليم )ACE( ضمن برنامج البعثات، حيث التحق برئاسة جامعة لمدة 12

أسبوعا على مدار عام كامل .

ويشمل البرنامج السنوي للزمالة في المجلس األمريكي للتعليم )ACE( توجيه 50 من

الكوادر األكاديمية في برنامج يتم فيه إعدادهم لتقلد مناصب هامة كرؤساء للجامعات.

إن التحاق الدكتور علي المنصوري في هذا البرنامج الهام، سيتيح للكوادر اإلماراتية

ذات الخبرة في إدارة التعليم العالي فرصة التسجيل في هذا البرنامج، ويعد توثيقا

لتحقيق أهداف توطين الوظائف القيادية في كليات التقنية العليا التي تشمل القيادة

التنفيذية للمسؤولين اإلماراتيين. وبالفعل فقد سجلت كليات التقنية العليا برأس الخيمة

أعلى نسبة توطين في أي من كليات التقنية العليا، حيث أن ربع موظفيها وستة في

المائة من األكاديميين من الكوادر اإلماراتية.

وقد صرح الدكتور علي المنصوري لصحيفة "ذا ناشيونال" أنه يفتخر بالتحاقه ببرنامج

الزمالة في المجلس األمريكي للتعليم، وأضاف بأنه على علم بحجم المسؤولية الملقاة

على عاتقه، حيث أن العبء قد ازداد نظرا لكونه أول مواطن إماراتي يصل إلى هذه

المكانة الرفيعة التي أعتبرها مسؤولية وليست إمتيازا. كما أضاف أن تكلفة البرنامج

عالية ولكنه يأمل أن يتم إيفاد المزيد من األكاديميين اإلماراتيين في العام المقبل،

مؤكدا التركيز على الكوادر النسائية ألن الكليات بحاجة إلى العنصر النسائي.

وفي هذا السياق، قال سعادة الدكتور طيب كمالي، مدير كليات التقنية العليا، لصحيفة

"ذا ناشيونال" أن هذا البرنامج الذي استغرق إثني عشر شهرا فقط أتاح للدكتور

المنصوري خبرة سنوات عديدة، كما أضاف أن هذه الفرصة القيمة تتيح الحصول على

الخبرة العالمية بشكل سريع. وأعرب الدكتور كمالي عن فخر الجميع باختياره وأنه يأمل

أن يكون مصدر إلهام لألكاديميين اإلماراتيين لتشجيعهم على االلتحاق بمجال التعليم.

وتجدر اإلشارة إلى أن الدكتور علي المنصوري يرتبط بكليات التقنية العليا في رأس

الخيمة في عالقة طويلة بدأت في العام 1997 مع بدء حياته العملية فيها كمهندس في

قسم تكنولوجيا المعلومات، وذلك قبل توليه وظيفة محاضر في تكنولوجيا المعلومات في

العام 2002. وفي العام 2004 أصبح مديرا للخدمات الطالبية في الكليات وذلك قبل

تقلده وظيفة المدير المساعد.

الدكتور على المنصوري هو أحد خريجي كليات التقنية العليا، حصل على الدبلوم

العالي في تكنولوجيا المعلومات في برنامج إدارة األعمال، كما حصل على بكالوريوس

تكنولوجيا المعلومات وماجستير في إدارة األعمال اإللكترونية كليهما من جامعة

هدرسفيلد في المملكة المتحدة. ونال الدكتور علي درجة الدكتوراه في إدارة األعمال في

مجال التعليم من جامعة ليدز متروبوليتان، وكان موضوع رسالته "تعزيز التعليم في دولة

اإلمارات العربية المتحدة".

من خالل خبرتها الواسعة وتجربتها الشخصية في

الحياة، تسعى الدكتورة محدثة الهاشمي، مدير كليات

التقنية العليا في الشارقة، لغرس التعطش للتعليم المتميز

في عقول وقلوب آالف الطلبة.

كونها أول إمرأة إماراتية تشغل منصبا مرموقا في

كليات التقنية العليا، تحرص الدكتورة محدثة الهاشمي

بعد تعيينها مديرا لكليات التقنية العليا في الشارقة،

على توجيه الطلبة وتقديم الدعم واإلرشاد لهم وتشجيعهم

على اإلبداع والتميز إلبراز فضل العلم ودوره في توفير

الفرص.

استمدت الدكتورة محدثة الهاشمي نهج إيثار اآلخرين

والتضحية من أجلهم من خالل تجربتها الشخصية فقد

نشأت في دبي في عائلة مكونة من أربع شقيقات، وكان

الوالد مربيا فاضال ومدرسا لم يأل جهدا لتعليم بناته

األربع.

قالت الدكتورة محدثة: " كان والدي المحرك األساسي في

عائلتنا في تحفيزنا على التعلم وإحراز التقدم، حيث كان

يقول لنا: "عليكن بالتعلم وأنا سأقف إلى جانبكن "، وهذا

هو نفس المبدأ الذي سأتبعه في عملي في كليات التقنية

العليا".

بعد االنتهاء من الدراسة الثانوية سافرت إلى الواليات

المتحدة األمريكية وسجلت للدراسة في جامعة مينيسوتا،

مينيابوليس وهي نفس الجامعة التي كان يدرس بها عمها

حينها. كانت تطمح إلى دراسة الطب. قالت د. الهاشمي

" كنت واحدة ضمن عدد قليل من السيدات اإلماراتيات

الالتي حصلن على منحة دراسية في الواليات المتحدة

األمريكية في ذلك الوقت، كما اعتبرت الرائدة لعدم وجود

أي إمرأة إماراتية تدرس في الواليات المتحدة األمريكية

آنذاك."

اختارت التخصص في التكنولوجيا الطبية استيفاء

لمتطلبات الحصول على درجة البكالوريوس قبل

التخصص في الطب. وفي وقت الحق، استكملت

دراستها في جامعة مينيسوتا أيضا للحصول على درجة

الماجستير في علوم المختبرات السريرية. وبعد مضي

وقت في التنقل بين مينيابوليس ونيويورك وهيوستن،

شعرت برغبة قوية لدراسة الصحة العامة، مما دفعها إلى

الحصول على درجة الدكتوراه.

أضافت الدكتورة محدثة: "كان لدي شغف لدراسة

وفهم صحة السكان وتوجهاتهم وعلم األوبئة ومكافحة

األمراض. كنت أرغب إجراء األبحاث لدرجة الدكتوراه في

دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة، وإن عدم توفر أي بحث

فعلي أجري محليا قدم لي أكثر من فكرة وكان حافزا لي،

فاخترت دراسة مرض السرطان وخاصة أنماط الوفيات

بمرض السرطان في دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة. كما

"قمت بتطوير مجلد للبحث يبين جداول عن وفيات مرض

السرطان في دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة ".

وبالعودة مرة أخرى إلى دبي، سرعان ما بدأت البحث

عن المزيد من التحديات واهتمامها بالتدريس قادها إلى

لقاء مع مدير كليات التقنية العليا في الشارقة، الدكتور

فريد أوهان. قالت د. الهاشمي "لقد أحببت التدريس منذ

كنت أدرس في جامعة مينيسوتا، حيث عملت في التدريس

بدوام جزئي. تقابلت مع الدكتور فريد في يوم خميس

ألطلب عمال بدوام جزئي وكانت إجابته لي "هل يمكنك

البدء بالعمل من يوم األحد؟"

"بدأت العمل على اعتبار أنه مجرد عمل أؤديه، ولكنني

استمتعت بالتدريس إلى حد كبير، فبدأت العمل مع

أربعة من الطلبة في مساق جديد في المختبرات الطبية".

وبفضل تفانيها في التدريس، عرض عليها وظيفة بدوام

كامل، وسرعان ما قبلت العرض والتحقت بالوظيفة. وبعد

فترة طلبت إجازة لمدة عام الستكمال دراسة الدكتوراه.

بعد الحصول على شهادة الدكتوراه من الواليات المتحدة

األمريكية، عادت الدكتورة محدثة إلى دولة اإلمارات

العربية المتحدة والتحقت بوظيفة مدرس بدوام كامل في

كلية التقنية العليا للطالبات في الشارقة، وقد أحبتها جدا،

وأدركت أهمية رسالتها فتقدمت بها بشكل سريع لتصبح

منسقا للمناهج الدراسية، وعملت على إعداد برنامج

جديد للتعليم الصحي. وأعربت الدكتورة عن حبها للتعليم

قائلة "لقد كان التعليم حياتي وأتاح لي القيام بعمل مفيد

للطلبة".

وبعد مضي خمس سنوات في الكلية، أدى المقال الذي

نشر في إحدى الصحف حول طلبة الدكتورة إلى البحث

عنها من قبل مدينة دبي الطبية خصيصا لتوظيفها، حيث

عرضت عليها منصب مدير التعليم لبرنامج تعليمي طبي

جديد".

وفي أغسطس 2005 تقلدت منصب مدير التعليم في

مدينة دبي الطبية، وهو ما يعني منحنى صعب في مجال

التعليم "لقد كان هذا بمثابة تحديا واختبار بالنسبة لي

كي أثبت لنفسي أن لدي القدرة على القيام به"، وبعد

مضي ثمانية أشهر في هذا المنصب، طلب رئيس مجلس

اإلدارة إليها التقدم لشغل منصب الرئيس التنفيذي لمدينة

دبي الطبية ." العمل بهذا المنصب غير مجرى حياتي

المهنية، وأتاح لي الكثير من الفرص. لقد تعلمت كثيرا

أثناء العمل. في الحقيقة لقد كان هذا المنحنى شديد

االنحدار ولكننا أنجزنا الكثير".

إن خلفيتها العلمية وشغفها بمجال الصحة العامة، بررا

قرار رئيس مجلس اإلدارة بتحويل مساحة من أراضي

دبي الصحراوية إلى مركز للرعاية الصحية وفق أعلى

المستويات العالمية. "عندما تركت العمل في فبراير

2013، تحققنا من وجود أكثر 000 600 مريض و100 مرفق ومستشفيين كبيرين، وأكثر من 2500

متخصص مرخص يعمل في مجال الرعاية الصحية."

ومع النجاح الذي تحقق في مدينة دبي الطبية، ظهر لها

تحديا جديدا آخر قدمه الدكتور فريد أوهان، معلمها

السابق: "لقد كان حديثه معي حول عودتي إلى كلية

التقنية العليا للطالبات لبعض الوقت. في البداية لم أكن

متأكدة من أن هذا ما يناسبني بالفعل ولكن بعد ذلك

فكرت في أهمية إعداد الكوادر اإلماراتية لتولي مناصب

قيادية واستعدت ذكرياتي الرائعة مع الطلبة. لذلك كنت

متحمسة جدا لهذا المنصب".

الدكتورة محدثة الهاشمي تنوي استخدام تجربتها التي

اكتسبتها في مدينة دبي الطبية في منصبها الجديد

كمدير لكليات التقنية العليا في الشارقة: " علي استخدام

مهاراتي وخلفيتي في إدارة األعمال. إن كليات التقنية

العليا هي مثل غيرها من المؤسسات من حيث وجود

موظفين ومرافق وغيرها، لذلك فإن خبرتي العملية الواسعة

أكسبتني مهارات قابلة لالنتقال مما جعلني واثقة من

إمكانياتي وقدرتي على تقلد هذا المنصب الرفيع".

وأضافت "لقد تسلمت نظاما جيدا جدا وأنا بالفعل فخورة

بأن أكون جزءا من الفريق اإلداري الرئيسي وأدرك أن

المهمة صعبة ولكنها ستكون تجربة ممتعة وشيقة ".

إن الضغط لتحقيق النجاح في المنصب الجديد الذي

أسند إلى الدكتورة محدثة الهاشمي هو بمثابة حافز

فوي للسعي للتميز. "أنا أعلم أنني سوف أنجح، وال

يمكنني إال أن أنجح، فإذا فشلت، فستكون هذه مأساة

لجميع اإلماراتيين الذين يتقلدون المناصب القيادية

العليا األخرى. ولكنني متحمسة جدا لهذه المركز الرفيع

الدكتورة محدثة الهاشمي... نموذج فريد للشخصية القيادية

الهيئة التدريسية تتبنى تكنولوجيا التعليم النقال

مع تبني طالب السنة التحضيرية في كليات التقنية العليا الستخدام أجهزة iPad، لم تكن

هذه الفكرة لتتطبق بشكل صحيح دون التزام وتفاني أعضاء الهيئتين التدريسية واإلدارية في

كليات التقنية العليا الذين ساهموا بحماس بدمج عملية التعليم النقال بطريقة سلسلة.

منذ انطالق مبادرة التعليم النقال في سبتمبر 2012، تم اختيار حوالي 120 عضو هيئة

تدريسية من مؤسسات التعليم العالي االتحادية الثالث "كمناصري التكنولوجيا" لترويج

التقنيات النقال في القاعات والعمل داخل مؤسستهم التعليمية لتدريب زمالئهم من الهيئة

التدريسية ك "مؤيدي مصممي محتوى المنهاج" ومساعدة الطلبة على استخدام هذه التقنية.

وباإلضافة إلى تفانيهم وحماسهم، قام "مناصرو التكنولوجيا" بالمشاركة في سلسلة من

ورش العمل التدريبية والعمل مع نظرائهم من المؤسسات التعليمية الثالث خالل العام. وقد

تم تصميم التدريب إلكمال تجهيز "مناصري التكنولوجيا" الستخدام أجهزة iPad المتوافقة

مع نظريات التعليم األساسية ليتمكنوا من تطوير مواد تعليمية الكترونية تتوافق مع أهداف

المادة وذات جودة عالية، حيث ستضاف إلى مستودع علم التربية بواسطة iPad في دولة

وقد هنأ د. طيب كمالي، مدير كليات التقنية العليا، ورئيس مبادرة التعليم النقال االتحادية،

جميع المشاركين في دعم هذا المشروع اإللكتروني، كما شكرهم على جهودهم وتفانيهم

خالل هذه العملية الدقيقة.

وقد تم تعيين متطوعو التكنولوجيا في كليات التقنية العليا كمقاربة جديدة بقيادة الطالب

محمد خالد الدارس في برنامج تكنولوجيا المعلومات بكلية أبو ظبي للطالب حيث تم اختيار

فرق من طالب كليات التقنية العليا للعمل كسفراء تقنيات التعليم النقال أو الجهاز اللوحي

iPad في كلياتهم.

وتتكون فرق متطوعي التكنولوجيا من طالب من كافة المراحل الدراسية والبرامج التخصصية

والحريصين على مساعدة طلبة السنة التحضيرية. وقد ائتمنوا لمساعدة طلبة السنة

التحضيرية في استخدام أجهزة iPad ومساعدتهم في أية أمور تقنية تتعلق بوظائف هذه

األجهزة وتطبيقاتها. وقال المنسق محمد خالد أن ميزة هذا المشروع هي حصول طلبة

السنة التحضيرية على المساعدة واإلرشاد من نظرائهم وإمكانية إقامة عالقة إيجابية معهم.

االلتزام بالتعليم والمشاركة واالبداع... تدريب ناجح على التقنيات النقالة

خالل اثني عشر شهرا أصبح العديد من أعضاء هيئة التدريس في كليات التقنية

العليا المبتدئين في استخدام األجهزة اللوحية خبراء في التقنيات النقالة، وذلك

نظرا اللتزام كليات التقنية العليا بضمان إتاحة التقنيات النقالة في التعليم وحسن

استخدامها.

رحب العديد من أعضاء هيئة التدريس في كليات التقنية العليا باستخدام تكنولوجيا

األجهزة اللوحية مثل جهاز اآليباد بحماس كبير والتزام، كجزء أساسي من عملية

التعليم والتعلم، وذلك من خالل المشاركة في العديد من ورش العمل والدورات

التدريبية. وقد عمل أعضاء هيئة التدريس في كليات التقنية العليا مع نظرائهم في

كل من جامعة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة وجامعة زايد في ثالث ورشات تدريبية باسم

الحدث األول هو عبارة عن دورة تدريبية عامة لغير الملمين بأجهزة "اآليباد" من

أعضاء هيئة التدريس، وقد ساهم في تعريفهم على األدوات واستخدامها في

الفصول الدراسية، باإلضافة إلى النظر في تطبيقات محددة قابلة التطبيق في

العملية التعليمية في دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة.

أما ورشة العمل الثانية "iCelebrate2" فهي عبارة عن التواصل وتبادل األفكار

بين مئات أعضاء الهيئة التدريسية الموهوبين والمهتمين في كل من كليات التقنية

العليا، وجامعة زايد، وجامعة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة. وقد ناقش فيها أعضاء

الهيئة التدريسية مواضيع عديدة، منها تصميم المساقات الدراسية، وتطوير المواد،

واالستخدامات المحددة للتطبيقات في الفصل الدراسي، وغيرها. وقد أظهر هذا

الحدث الرغبة المتزايدة بين أعضاء هيئة التدريس في استخدام طرائق التعليم

المبتكرة، مما أدى إلى التوسع والتنوع في مواضيع الورشة. وأكد المشاركون أيضا

أن استخدام التكنولوجيا قد ساهم في توسيع طاقة اإلبداع لديهم.

وقال الدكتور جيس هارجيز، مدير كلية أبوظبي للطالبات، الرائد في مبادرة

استخدام التقنيات النقالة في عملية التعليم والتعلم، أن هذا الحدث كان مناسبة

رائعة لكليات التقنية العليا لتقاسم ما تم تعلمه. وإن الحوار واالستراتيجيات وحماسة

المشاركين ستبقى ذكرى جميلة فيما يمضون قدما في هذه المسيرة المتطورة.

" 3 iCelebrate " في شهر مارس من هذا العام، أقيمت ورشة العمل الثالثة

تحت شعار "تقاسم خبرة آيباد"، بمشاركة أكثر من iChampions 300 من

جامعة زايد، وكليات التقنية العليا، وجامعة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة. ويعتبر حدثا

هاما للمدرسين من جميع البرامج واألقسام في المؤسسات التعليمية الثالث، لاللتقاء

وتبادل الخبرات حول استخدام اآليباد في التعليم والتعلم في المراحل المختلفة

من المناهج الدراسية في كل مؤسسة. ركزت الجلسات التفاعلية على التوسع في

استخدام جهاز اآليباد في عملية التعليم والتعلم.

وقد قامت كليات التقنية العليا أيضا بتنظيم دورات تدريبية ألعضاء هيئة التدريس

حول استخدام التقنيات النقالة، ومنها ورش المحاكاة في كلية مدينة خليفة للطالبات

)KCWC( الستخدام اآليباد في التعليم العالي، وورشة عمل "iDesign" التي

وفرت الدروس النموذجية لبيئة التعليم القائمة على التحدي واستخدام أجهزة اآليباد

لتحديد وبحث المشاكل وتوفير الحلول. وتعلم أعضاء هيئة التدريس أيضا كيفية حل

المشاكل الفنية، فضال عن استخدام برامج رقمية محددة.

iFoundations وباإلضافة إلى ذلك، استضافت كلية العين للطالب منتدى

للتدريب المستمر والتطوير لمعلمي مادتي الرياضيات واللغة االنجليزية في البرنامج

التحضيري بكليات التقنية العليا، حيث شارك فيه حوالي 550 من أعضاء هيئة

التدريس. وأتاح هذا المنتدى لمدرسي مجمع كليات التقنية العليا فرصة توفير

األنشطة العملية المالئمة في الفصل الدراسي.

كما استضافت كليات مدينة زايد والرويس في المنطقة الغربية مؤتمر ليوم واحد

لتبادل وتطوير سبل استخدام جهاز آيباد في التعليم. وعملت مجموعات مختلفة طيلة

اليوم على استكشاف السبل لتعزيز استخدام األجهزة ودمجها في عملية التخطيط

االستراتيجي للكليات من خالل استخدام التطبيقات الوفيرة المتاحة لمساعدة

المعلمين والطلبة في المساقات الدراسية.

أحدث تقنيات التعليم النقال ستعمل المبادرة على تحويل التعليم

العالي في اإلمارات العربية المتحدة، كما ستحفز الطالب على

المشاركة في عملية تطويرهم الفكري.

وقال د. طيب كمالي، مدير كليات التقنية العليا، أن الميادرة

تعد من أكثر العمليات التعليمية إبداعا. كما أضاف "نحن نقوم

بإكساب طلبتنا مهارات تكنولوجيا المعلومات والتفكير التحليلي

من خالل التركيز على اإلبداع في التعليم، وذلك ليقدموا

مساهمات مهمة لبلدهم اإلمارات العربية المتحدة وليتمكنوا من

إحداث تغيير في العالم."

سيقوم الطالب بإيجاد طرائق تعليمية جديدة تتناسب مع

موهبتهم في التعليم باستخدام التقنيات النقالة المتطورة من

خالل جعل تجاربهم التعليمية مثمرة وعملية وممتعة. تعد هذه

المبادرة الخطوة األولى في نموذج التعليم الجديد باستخدام

مجموعة واسعة من التطبيقات )Apps( خالل المحاضرات

اللالورقية )دون كتب(. وسيتمكن كل من المعلمين والطالب من

نقل العالم إلى الفصل الدراسي ويقدموا للطالب تجربة تعليمية

شاملة. كما سيخلق الطالب بيئتهم التعليمية الخاصة بهم من

خالل التعاون مع نظرائهم وأعضاء الهيئة التدريسية.

في بداية األمر تم تشجيع أكثر من 800 عضو هيئة تدريسية

في المؤسسات التعليمية الثالث إليجاد طرائق جديدة وممتعة

لتعزيز مشاركة الطلبة، الذين سيكون زمانهم قد تعدى حمل

واستخدام الكتب الثقيلة، في العملية التعليمية. وخالل السنتين

المقبلتين سيتم إشراك أعضاء آخرين في المحصالت التعليمية

الجديدة من خالل استخدام أجهزة لوحية وتقنيات أخرى.

وسيتم تطبيق الدروس المكتسبة على مناهج التعليم العامة

والتخصصات األكاديمية لتجاوز حدود المعقول في عملية

التعليم الفاعل.

قامت كليات التقنية العليا باتخاذ خطوات إضافية في عملية

التعليم باستخدام التعليم النقال من خالل تقديم دورة حول

برنامج Apple iTunes من قبل الطلبة وأعضاء الهيئة

التدريسية، باإلضافة إلى إنشاء تطبيق كليات التقنية العليا

الموصى عليه والذي يوفر معلومات ومحتوى لمجتمع كليات

.Apple App Store التقنية العليا بواسطة

إن توجه كليات التقنية العليا إلى عملية تعليمية دون أوراق

أو كتب لجميع الطلبة يتوسع من خالل دمج تقنيات الهاتف

النقال في دراستهم. ومن المتوقع تقديم أجهزة لوحية لجميع

طلبة السنة الدراسية األولى من برنامج العلوم التطبيقية في

كليات التقنية العليا، وسينضمون إلى أكثر من 6000 طالب

يستخدمون األجهزة اللوحية. وستكون حملة التوزيع التالية

لألجهزة النقالة لحوالي 1500 طالب جديد في السنة األولى.

وينظر لحملة توزيح األجهزة اللوحية كامتداد للعملية التعليمية

من خالل تطبيق فلسفة تركز عليها كليات التقنية العليا

في ممارساتها اليومية. كما أنها ستؤدي إلى عملية تحويل

سلسلة باستخدام تكنولوجيا التعليم النقال ابتداء من البرامج

التحضيرية وحتى برامج البكالوريوس. وتعتزم المؤسسات

االتحادية الثالث تعزيز عالقاتها مع Apple Inc ودور نشر

تعليمية عالمية رائدة لترويج التعليم النقال في المنطقة من خالل

خدمات تغطي مواضيع علم التربية والمحتوى والبنية التحتية

والتدريب.

حوالي 14000 طالب جديد في مؤسسات التعليم العالي االتحادية الثالث في اإلمارات

العربية المتحدة. أطلق صاحب سمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم المشروع رسميا من

خالل توقيع حاسب لوحي الكترونيا قبل القيام بجولة حول الحرم الجامعي حيث رأى طالبا

يستخدمون الحواسيب اللوحية في مساقات الرياضيات واللغة االنجليزية، باإلضافة إلى

مجاالت عدة مختلفة. كما قام سمو الشيخ بمشاهدة روابط مقاطع فيديو مع طالب جامعة

اإلمارات العربية المتحدة وجامعة زايد.

وحاليا تستخدم كل من كليات التقنية العليا وجامعة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة وجامعة

زايد هذه المبادرة كأداة لتطوير وإحداث ثورة في عملية التعليم والتعلم. فمن خالل تطبيق

التعليم النقال والتعلم بالممارسةشهدت حياة طالب كليات التقنية العليا تغيرا إيجابيا مع اإلطالق الرسمي لمبادرة

التعليم العالي االتحادي للتعليم النقال في 23 أيلول 2012 برعاية سمو الشيخ

محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، نائب رئيس الدولة، رئيس مجلس الوزراء، حاكم دبي. وقد

وضعت هذه المبادرة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة في مرتبة متقدمة كدولة متبنية للتقنيات

التحويلية في مجال التعليم.

وتعد هذه المبادرة أكبر تعبئة وطنية للتعليم النقال في مجال التعليم العالي في

أرجاء العالم. فقد قامت هذه المبادرة بتطبيق الجيل الثالث من الجهاز اللوحي آي

باد iPad حيث تم استخدام هذه األجهزة مع بداية العام الدراسي الجديد من قبل

تم دعوة الوفود الطالبية أيضا إلى حلقة نقاش عامة بإدارة المذيع

التلفزيوني ريز خان، ضمت الحائزين على جائزة نوبل بحضور ضيف

الشرف البروفيسور إدوارد جوليانو، رئيس معهد نيويورك للتكنولوجيا.

ناقش الفريق المشارك مجموعة واسعة من الموضوعات، مع التركيز على

طموحات الطلبة وتوقعاتهم من التعليم العالي، كما تم الرد على األسئلة

المطروحة من قبل الحضور.

وفي هذا اإلطار، حث البروفيسور جيروم فريدمان الطلبة على العمل

بشغف في مجال اختصاصهم المختار وبذل المساعي الدؤوبة لتأدية

األعمال التي تقودهم إلى دروب التميز والتقدم على الصعيد الشخصي

وفي المجتمع، في حين دعا البروفيسور مارتن تشالفي الطلبة إلى

االلتزام بشعار "أنا مقيد فقط بخيالي الخاص وبما يمكنني القيام به،

وليس بأفكار اآلخرين".

لدى التطرق إلى موضوع التحديات التعليمية العالمية، قال البروفيسور

غيليانو أن الطريقة المثلى في استخدام اإلنترنت واالتصال الجماهيري

هي النظر في القضايا العالمية واتخاذ الخطوات الالزمة محليا عن

طريق البحث األساسي والتطبيقي.

إن الهدف الرئيس من مؤتمر التعليم بال حدود هو إزالة الحواجز بين

الطلبة في مختلف الدول والثقافات، وبين الطلبة والشخصيات األكاديمية

مؤتمر التعليم بال حدود 2013

أقيم مؤتمر التعليم بال حدود في دورته السابعة في

كليات التقنية العليا في الشارقة خالل شهر مارس

2013 حيث تناول مواضيع هامة، منها أهمية

التعليم، وتأثير أداء الموجهين والمشرفين، وتنمية

الشراكات المهنية بين مؤسسات القطاعين العام

والخاص، وتحسين مهارات التفكير الناقد. وساهم

المئات من الطلبة من دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة

ومن جميع أنحاء العالم في استكشاف السبل

إليجاد الحلول لسد الفجوات التعليمية من أجل

إتاحة مزيد من الفرص للمجتمعات المختلفة.

عقد الملتقى الطالبي العالمي هذا العام تحت شعار

"تضييق الفجوة... حلول إبداعية للتحديات التعليمية

العالمية"، وذلك بالتزامن مع أسبوع االحتفاالت

بمناسبة الذكرى السنوية الخامسة والعشرين

لتأسيس كليات التقنية العليا، وذلك في كليات التقنية

العليا في الشارقة.

وقد شارك عدد من الطلبة إلى جانب الحائزين على

جائزة نوبل والشخصيات األكاديمية البارزة بتقديم

32 ورقة عمل على مدار اليوم.

افتتح المؤتمر الذي أطلق منذ العام 2001 معالي

الشيخ نهيان مبارك آل نهيان، وزير الثقافة والشباب

وتنمية المجتمع، بحضور عدد من الحائزين على

جائزة نوبل، منهم البروفيسور كالوس فون كليتزينج،

الحائز على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء لعام 1985،

والسير هارولد كروتو، الحائز على جائزة نوبل

في الكيمياء لعام 1996، والبروفيسور دوجالس

أوشيروف، الحائز على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء لعام

1996، والبروفيسور يوان تسيه لي، الحائز على

جائزة نوبل في الكيمياء لعام 1986، والبروفيسور

مارتن شالفي، الحائز على جائزة نوبل في الكيمياء

لعام 2008، والبروفيسور جيروم فريدمان، الحائز

على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء لعام 1990.

وقد رأى معالي الشيخ نهيان أن نشأة مؤتمر

التعليم بال حدود جاءت نتيجة للتفاعالت اإليجابية

بين المشاركين "من أجل مستقبل التعليم العالمي"

وأعرب عن تمنياته الصادقة في جعل التعليم

العالمي هدفا أساسيا في الحياة. وقال معاليه "

إن لديكم أفكار واقعية وعملية نابعة من التفكير

اإلبداعي ... التزام شغوف بحل المشاكل وتعزيز

التعليم في جميع أنحاء العالم. إن أفكاركم الذكية

والخيالية والعملية وتفانيكم لوضعها موضع التطبيق

ستنير العالم".

وأكد معاليه أن التعليم األساسي السليم بالغ

األهمية في إكساب الطلبة المهارات اللغوية،

واستخدام التقنيات الحديثة، ومهارات الرياضيات،

واستخدام الطريقة العلمية، والوعي التاريخي

والثقافي، واحترام الثقافات األخرى وأساليب الحياة

المختلفة.

وقال تونى بلير "كون التعليم عامال ذو أهمية أكبر حتى من ذي قبل ولذا فإن

التعليم ضروري لنمو اإلقتصاد. ورأس المال البشري هو المصدر األكبر والوحيد

للدولة." وأضاف أن هناك حاجة لثورة تعليمية. وقال: "إن مهرجان المفكرين

يعطينا الفرصة إلحداث مثل هذه التغيرات. وإن التكنولوجيا والتغيرات اإلبداعية

تمهد الطريق لتغيير الطريقة التي يتعلم بها الناس".

كما قال محمد البرادعي، الحائز على جائزة نوبل للسالم، "إننا نحتاج العلم بشكل

عام لتحسين المجتمع. إننا جميعا لدينا اإلتصال ولكننا نحتاج أن ننظر أبعد

من ذلك، يجب أن يكون لدى الناس حد أدنى من العلم". في حين أضاف السيد

هارولد كروتو أنه من المهم أن يكون هناك تركيزا على األساس ولكن هناك حاجة

لتعليم أكثر شمولية لتحسين نظامنا التعليمي مع تركيز إضافي على "ما نستمتع

به في الحياة". كما قال البروفيسور دوجالس أوشيروف، الحائز على جائزة نوبل

في الفيزياء، أن "الناس يحتاجون لإلنتاجية أكثر مما يحتاجون إلى التعليم، فهم

يحتاجون الشغف". وقال: "إن الشغف هو ما يدفعنا للقيام باألعمال العظيمة ".

مهرجان المفكريناإللهام واالبتكار

والشغف

نظمت كليات التقنية العليا مهرجان المفكرين في دورته الخامسة في شهر

مارس بحضور مئات الطلبة من الجامعات العالمية واإلماراتية ليسترشدوا بخطى

الحائزين على جائزة نوبل والمفكرين في أنحاء العالم من أجل تطوير التعليم

والمجتمع.

وقد افتتح معالي الشيخ نهيان مبارك آل نهيان، وزير الثقافة والشباب وتنمية

المجتمع، مؤتمر الطالب الدولي رسميا والذي ضم وفودا ممثلة لحوالي 60 دولة

و 130 معهد حول العالم إلى جانب كبار الشخصيات األكاديمية والحكومية

ورواد األعمال. وقد تخلل المؤتمر مناقشات جامعية حرة بين الطلبة والحائزين

على جوائز نوبل ومفكري العالم في موضوعات تتمحور حول ثالث أفكار فرعية

هي العلوم، والتكنولوجيا وتعليم الهندسة والرياضيات: مبادرات وتحديات وتأثير

التعليم على الصحة والعافية باإلضافة الى نماذج إبداعية للتعليم العالي.

وساهم المشاركون في حلقات نقاشية وجلسات تخطيط جماعي وملخصات

شاملة كلها تدور حول التفاعل المتقارب بين الطلبة والحائزين على جوائز نوبل

والمفكرين.

وكان التركيز على الحلقة النقاشية اإلفتتاحية والتى تميزت بوجود الحائزين

على جائزة نوبل د. محمد البرادعي )عن السالم، 2005(، والبروفيسور كالوس

فون كليتزينج )في الفيزياء، 1985(، والسيد هارولد دبليو كروتو )في الكيمياء،

1996(، والبروفيسور دوجالس أوشيروف )في الفيزياء، 1996(، باإلضافة إلى

بروفيسور يوان تشي لي )في الكيمياء 1986(. وانضم إليهم جون كوتش نائب

رئيس شركة ابل. كما حضر المؤتمر آخرون حائزون على جائزة نوبل وشاركوا

في حلقات نقاشية تفاعلية مثل البروفيسور باري جيه مارشال )في الطب،

2005(، والبروفيسور مارتن تشالفي )في الكيمياء، 2008(، باإلضافة إلى

البروفيسور جيرومي إل فريدمان )في الفيزياء، 1990(.

كما كان رئيس الوزراء البريطاني السابق توني بلير من بين الحضور كواحد

من أربعة ممثلين إلى الشرق االوسط ومؤسسة تونى بلير للعقيدة. كما تحدث

معالي الشيخ نهيان عن األهمية العالمية للمؤتمر، حيث حث الطلبة قائال "علينا

بالتفكر والتدارس. فقد خلقنا لنفكر، وتقع على عاتقنا مسؤولية التفكير السليم.

ولكن يجب أيضا أن يكون لدينا قوة العقل لمجابهة العالم خارج أنفسنا". باعتبار

الحائزين على جوائز نوبل كأمثلة حية على مهنهم قال "فهم لم يقوموا بإخفاء

أعمالهم، أو تفكيرهم. بالطبع ال، ولكنهم عرضوا تفكيرهم على العالم أجمع حتى

يتم تقييمه. لم تكن أفكارهم عادية. بل كانت متميزة وأصيلة، وإبداعية، ومختلفة،

وغاية في األهمية".

شهدت كليات التقنية العليا المزيد من التوسع حيث تم افتتاح كليتي التقنية

للطالب والطالبات في رأس الخيمة في سبتمبر 1993 وتم تسجيل 46 طالبا في

كلية رأس الخيمة للطالب و104 طالبة في كلية رأس الخيمة للطالبات آنذاك.

وتعتبر األخيرة األحدث في مجمع كليات التقنية العليا حيث تم افتتاحها

رسميا من قبل صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، نائب رئيس

الدولة، رئيس مجلس الوزراء، حاكم دبي في مايو 2013، وتقع بمحاذاة كلية

رأس الخيمة للطالب.

شهدت أواخر التسعينيات المزيد من التطور واالنتشار حيث تم افتتاح كلية

الشارقة للطالبات في العام 1997، وكلية الشارقة للطالب في العام 1998، وكلية

الفجيرة للطالبات في أغسطس 1999 وضمت 364 طالبة. وفي أغسطس 2004

تم افتتاح كلية الفجيرة للطالب حيث بلغ عدد الطالب آنذاك 112 طالبا.

تم افتتاح كليتي التقنية العليا للطالب والطالبات في مدينة زايد في 3 سبتمبر

2006 وضمت 31 طالبا و136 طالبة على التوالي، كما شهد العام التالي افتتاح

كلية الرويس للطالبات حيث تم تسجيل 82 طالبة، بينما تم افتتاح كلية الرويس

للطالب في العام 2009 وضمت 25 طالبا.

وفي العام 2009 تم افتتاح كلية مدينة خليفة للطالبات تلبية للطلب المتزايد على

تعليم الطالبات في المرحلة ما بعد الثانوية في ضواحي مدينة أبوظبي.

ينسب النجاح الذي حققته كليات التقنية العليا إلى توفير التعليم التطبيقي

العملي بهدف استقطاب الطالب والطالبات من مواطني الدولة واتباع نهج التعلم

بالممارسة. وتعتمد العملية التعليمية في الكليات على وضع الطالب كمحور

للحياة الجامعية، واستخدام أحدث التقنيات، وإكساب الطلبة المهارات المتقدمة

المطلوبة من سوق العمل بالدولة، وتوفير البرامج الدراسية المصممة خصيصا

لتلبية احتياجات جهات العمل والمجتمع.

كليات التقنية العليا ومسيرة 2٥ عاما من العطاءال يسعنا عند االحتفال بالذكرى الخامسة والعشرين لتأسيس كليات التقنية العليا

سوى النظر إلى مكانتها في دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة على مدى الخمس

والعشرين سنة الماضية ومساهماتها الهامة في كافة الميادين. منذ بدايتها في العام

1988، شهدت كليات التقنية العليا تطورا ملحوظا لتصبح أكبر مؤسسة للتعليم العالي

في دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة منتشرة في مختلف مناطق الدولة.

وقد جاء هذا النمو لكليات التقنية العليا انعكاسا للتطور غير المسبوق لدولة اإلمارات

العربية المتحدة. بدأت الكليات عطاءها بافتتاح أربع كليات تضم ما يقـــارب 240

طالب وطالبة. أما اليـــــوم، فإن كليات التقنية العليا تضم ما يزيد علــى 000 18

طالب وطالبة موزعين على سبعة عشر كلية حديثة مجهزة بأحدث المعدات والتقنيات

المتطورة في جميع أنحاء الدولة.

وقد تمثلت رؤية معالي الشيخ نهيان مبارك آل نهيان، وزير الثقافة والشباب وتنمية

المجتمع، في توفير التعليم المتميز لجميع أبناء وبنات الدولة وإعدادهم اإلعداد

األمثل لمزاولة المهن الفنية واالحترافية المطلوبة في مجتمع سريع التطور، وتوفير

الكوادر المواطنة الشابة المؤهلة والمدربة لدفع عجلة التنمية االقتصادية.

تحققت هذه الرؤية الرشيدة بتأسيس كليات التقنية العليا بموجب المرسوم بقانون

اتحادي رقم )2( لسنة 1988 الصادر من المغفور له الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل

نهيان، مؤسس دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة، طيب الله ثراه. منذ ذلك الحين،

حرصت الكليات على تحقيق التميز في التعليم والتعلم.

تم تأسيس أولى كليات التقنية العليا في سبتمبر 1988 في مدينتي العين وأبوظبي،

حيث أقيمت كلية العين للطالب في ڤيال مستأجرة في حي الصاروج، وبلغ عدد

الطالب آنذاك 61 طالبا، بينما بلغ عدد الموظفين 18 من أعضاء الهيئتين التدريسية

واإلدارية. أما كلية العين للطالبات، فأنشئت في مجمع مستأجر مكون من ست ڤلل

صغيرة في حي المويجعي في العين، وضمت الكلية آنذاك 57 طالبة، جميعهم من

اإلمارات الشمالية، إضافة إلى 16 من أعضاء الهيئتين التدريسية واإلدارية.

افتتحت كلية أبوظبي للطالبات في ڤيال داخل المدينة ضمت 45 طالبة، وتم نقلها

الحقا إلى موقع مؤقت، والذي يعرف حاليا بإدارة الخدمات المركزية. وأخيرا، انتقلت

كلية أبوظبي للطالبات إلى موقعها الحالي بالقرب من شارع هزاع بن زايد.

أما كلية أبوظبي للطالب فبدأت عملها في طابقين في برج المسعود في شارع

حمدان وقدمت خدماتها لـ 52 طالب، وفي العام 1991 انتقلت إلى مبنى مؤقت وهو

الموقع الحالي لمركز التفوق لألبحاث التطبيقية والتدريب بالقرب من شارع المرور.

وفي ذلك العام قامت كل من كلية أبوظبي للطالب وكلية أبوظبي للطالبات بتخريج

الدفعة األولى من الطلبة. في العام 1995، انتقلت كلية أبوظبي للطالب إلى حرمها

الجامعي الحالي الكائن في شارع السعادة.

ومع زيادة الطلب على البرامج التي تقدمها كليات التقنية العليا، تم افتتاح كلية دبي

للطالب في أغسطس 1989 في مبنى كان يستخدم في السابق كمعرض للسيارات.

توفر لدى الكلية آنذاك ثمانية فصول دراسية، ومختبران للكمبيوتر ومختبر واحد

للهندسة. وبلغ عدد الطالب 104 طالب. وفي ديسمبر 1989 افتتحت كلية دبي

للطالبات حيث بلغ عدد طالباتها 145 طالبة.

شهدت كلية دبي للطالب نموا سريعا حيث تم نقلها مرتين قبل انتقالها إلى المبنى

الحالي الكائن في مدينة دبي األكاديمية، والذي افتتح رسميا في 30 مارس 2005.

وكذلك هو الحال بالنسبة لكلية دبي للطالبات التي تم افتتاح مبناها الحالي في 15

ديسمبر 1998.

كما شاركت كليات التقنية العليا باحتفاالت دولة اإلمارات

العربية المتحدة باليوم الوطني الحادي واألربعين - روح

االتحاد. وفي هذه المناسبة المتميزة، قامت كليات التقنية العليا

السبعة عشر المنتشرة في مختلف أنحاء الدولة بتنظيم مجموعة

واسعة ومتنوعة من االحتفاالت والفعاليات الخاصة، بما في ذلك

تقديم المأكوالت اإلماراتية التقليدية، وعروض الفنون الحرفية،

ومسابقات الشعر، والعروض الفنية، وجوالت في مرافق الكليات،

إضافة إلى مجموعة من المسابقات الشيقة والمسلية. ومن

أهم الفعاليات التي أقيمت بمناسبة اليوم الوطني، االحتفاالت

الخاصة بزراعة شجرة في كل كلية كجزء من "مبادرة شجرة

االتحاد"، التي أطلقها صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل

مكتوم، نائب رئيس الدولة، رئيس مجلس الوزراء، حاكم دبي.

وقد شهد شهر مايو أيضا افتتاح صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد

بن راشد آل مكتوم، نائب رئيس الدولة، رئيس مجلس الوزراء،

حاكم دبي، لمبنى كلية رأس الخيمة للطالبات، والبالغة تكلفته

130 مليون درهم، وذلك بحضور معالي الشيخ حمدان بن مبارك آل نهيان، وزير التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي، ومعالي محمد

حسن عمران الشامسي، رئيس مجمع كليات التقنية العليا،

وعدد من كبار الشخصيات.

وقد قام صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم بجولة

في عدد من مرافق وفصول الكلية، بما فيها المكتبة، حيث

شارك عدد من الطالبات نشاطهن كما وقع نسخ عدة من كتابه

" ومضات من فكر" وقام بإهدائها للكلية. وتمنى سموه للطالبات

النجاح والتقدم في مسيرتهن التعليمية لتحقيق أهدافهن وخدمة

الوطن.

مع إطاللة عام دراسي جديد، تتعهد كليات التقنية العليا السبعة

عشر باالستمرار في تأدية دورها المحوري في تحقيق األولويات

الوطنية لدولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة، وترسيخ التزامها

بتوسيع وتحسين أنشطتها في مجال التواصل مع المجتمعات

المحلية في الدولة، مع توجيه أنشطتها المستقبلية نحو تنفيذ

سياسة التوطين من خالل تعزيز نجاح الطالب، واتباع نهج

"التعلم بالممارسة"، وتوسيع نطاق الشراكات المهنية باإلضافة

الى ضمان الجودة بصورة مستمرة وتشجيع المبادرات

اإلبداعية.

الذكرى الخامسة والعشرون لتأسيس كليات التقنية العليا

احتفلت كليات التقنية العليا هذا العام بالذكرى الخامسة

والعشرين لتأسيسها، وتمثل كليات التقنية العليا االختيار

األفضل للطلبة حيث توفر فرص التعليم العالي لجميع مواطني

دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة وتساعدهم في بلوغ أقصى

طاقاتهم.

تسعى كليات التقنية العليا منذ تأسيسها لجعل الطالب محور

العملية التعليمية. إلى ذلك، فإن الكليات تعمل دوما على تمكين

طلبتها في سبيل تنمية القوة العاملة بالدولة. وقد أكد معالي

محمد حسن عمران الشامسي، رئيس مجمع كليات التقنية

العليا الذي تم تعيينه حديثا، االلتزام الراسخ بهذه الرسالة

الوطنية السامية.

كما أكدت كليات التقنية العليا على أهمية اتباع نهج "التعلم

بالممارسة"، الذي يركز على التعليم التطبيقي والعملي بهدف

إعداد الشباب المواطن لاللتحاق بالقوة العاملة بالدولة. وفي

االستمرار في تأدية دورها الحيوي في تشكيل مستقبل الدولة،

جددت كليات التقنية العليا تعهدها بمواءمة برامجها الدراسية

التخصصية مع االحتياجات الفعلية لقطاعات العمل المختلفة

بالدولة، وذلك من خالل التواصل الوثيق مع جهات العمل البارزة

بالدولة واالستجابة لمتطلبات سوق العمل.

اضطلعت كليات التقنية العليا هذا العام بتنظيم العديد من

المؤتمرات والمنتديات التعليمية واإلبداعية البارزة، مثل مهرجان

المفكرين، ومؤتمر التعليم بال حدود، وجائزة أبو ظبي للصناعة،

ومسابقات ومباريات اإلبداع، ومؤتمر إنسايت دبي، ومؤتمرات

iCelebrate للتطوير المهني، إضافة إلى فعاليات مرتبطة بالبرامج الدراسية، على سبيل المثال ال الحصر، مؤتمر التميز

الهندسي ومؤتمر الرياضيات. وتهدف جميع هذه الفعاليات

لتعزيز مشاركة الطلبة وشغفهم بالتعلم مدى الحياة وتحقيق

التطور الشخصي.

االحتياطي الفيدرالي في داالس، ومناقشة عدة مواضيع

منها "الشرق األوسط: دروس وفرص عالمية" و"األسواق

المالية العالمية: التطلع للمستقبل" و "االستثمار

المسؤول".

)Apple(وقد كانت كلية دبي للطالب موقع قمة أبل

للتعليم القيادي المستضافة من قبل كليات التقنية العليا

وشركة Apple. وشارك في هذه القمة األولى من نوعها

في المنطقة أكثر من 300 خبير تربوي وحكومي. تبعت

هذ الندوة االنطالقة الناجحة لمبادرة التعليم باستخدام

التعليم النقال في دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة في

سبتمبر 2012 حيث شهدت أضخم مبادرة للتعليم النقال

عالميا في مجال التعليم العالي في اإلمارات العربية

المتحدة.

وكانت كلية دبي للطالب أيضا موقع فعاليات التعليم

النقال في 28 مارس بعنوان " iCelebrate3- حدث

تعليمي وتعلمي: مشاركة تجربة جهاز iPad". وشارك

في هذا الحدث حوالي 300 من "مناصري التكنولوجيا"

وآخرين من جامعة زايد وكليات التقنية العليا وجامعة

اإلمارات العربية المتحدة، وذلك من خالل مشاركة

تجاربهم في استخدام أجهزة iPad في العملية

التعليمية.

وكان الحدث الختامي لألسبوع االحتفالي مبادرة

اللؤلؤة-الطاولة المستديرة لطلبة كليات التقنية العليا

حول االستثمار المسؤول. وقد أقيم هذا الحدث لتشجيع

الطالب للنظر لالستثمارات من ناحية بيئية واجتماعية

وحاكمة بعكس النظرة المالية البحتة للعائدات وأرباح

سوق األسهم.

توج احتفال كليات التقنية العليا بعيدها الخامس والعشرين هذا العام بمهرجان احتفالي

في 26 مارس في فندق ريكسوس-النخلة في دبي بحضور صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد

بن راشد آل مكتوم، نائب رئيس الدولة، رئيس مجلس الوزراء، حاكم دبي، حيث تم دعوة

حوالي 2000 شخص، بما فيهم خريجي كليات التقنية العليا والطلبة الحاليين ومفكرين

حائزين على جائزة نوبل وكبار الشخصيات في قطاعات األعمال والحكومة. وشهد مئات

الطالب العالميين احتفاالت مفعمة بالحيوية تشمل الفن والموسيقى والشعر واأللعاب

النارية.

كان الحدث عبارة عن احتفال بإنجازات خريجي كليات التقنية العليا السابقين. كما تتبع

الحفل تاريخ هذه المؤسسة باإلضافة إلى إلقاء الضوء على بداية مؤتمر التعليم بال حدود

EWB( 2013 2013(. وكان صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، نائب رئيس

الدولة ، رئيس مجلس الوزراء، حاكم دبي، ضيف الشرف باإلضافة إلى معالي الشيخ

نهيان مبارك آل نهيان، وزير الثقافة والشباب وتنمية المجتمع.

استضافت األمسية وسط حلة من األلعاب النارية متسلق مدني معروف عالميا، أالن

روبرت، المعروف برجل العنكبوت"Spiderman" الفرنسي والذي عاد إلى مدينة دبي حيث

خط تاريخا بتسلق أعلى مبنى في العالم، برج خليفة، خالل مؤتمر التعليم بال حدود

وقد انضم أالن روبرت إلى مجموعة من المؤدين المشهورين عالميا مثل عازفة الكمان

فانيسا ماي و DIV4S أربع مغنيات أوبرا إيطاليات. كما ألقى الشاعر الدكتور عارف

الشيخ قصيدة عربية على الجمهور كتبها خصيصا بمناسبة العيد الخامس والعشرين

لكليات التقنية العليا.

ومن أبرز األحداث في هذا االحتفال الكبير إنزال شاشة تفاعلية بطول 60 متر وذلك

لتصوير الطلبة العالميين وطلبة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة مع سمو الشيخ محمد ومعالي

الشيخ نهيان. واختتمت هذا األمسية الرائعة بقطع كل من سمو الشيخ محمد ومعالي

الشيخ نهيان قالب كعك لالحتفال بهذه المناسبة.

وقد مثل الطلبة العالميين أكثر من 60 دولة و130 مؤسسة تعليمية من جميع أنحاء

العالم وذلك من دول كبرى مثل كندا والصين وروسيا والواليات المتحدة األمريكية،

ومن دول صغيرة ونامية مثل البوسنة والهرسك وبوتان وكوبا وهايتي ومينمار وسيرالنكا

وتركمنستان.

وقد شهد احتفال كليات التقنة العليا بعيدها في شهر مارس أسبوعا حافال بالفعاليات

المتنوعة من ضمنها مؤتمرات للطلبة العالميين وطاوالت حوار تعليمية وتقنية وقمم قيادة

واجتماعات لسرد أفكار لألعمال العالمية.

كما شملت الفعاليات مهرجان المفكرين ومؤتمر التعليم بال حدود وهي مؤتمرات عالمية

تعقد مرة كل سنتين، حيث استقبلت مئات الطلبة العالميين واإلماراتيين ليتفاعلوا مع

مفكرين حائزين على جائزة نوبل وشخصيات ريادية عالمية. كما شاركت كليات التقنية

)GIC( العليا خالل هذا األسبوع كل من مدارس وارتون ومركز انترديبيندينس العالمي

باستضافة وتقديم ندوة سلسلة البنوك المركزية من GIC بعنوان "الشرق األوسط: دروس

من المشهد االقتصادي المتغير".

وقد حضر هذه الندوة أكثر من 200 مدير مالي ومصرفي عالميين مقيمين في اإلمارات

العربية المتحدة لسماع الكلمة الرئيسية التي ألقاها ريتشارد فيشر، رئيس البنك

التوطين في كليات التقنية العليافي إطار التزامها المستمر بتحقيق أهداف دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة المتمثلة بتوفير فرص العمل للمواطنين المؤهلين، وانطالقا من مساعيها المستمرة

لتنفيذ سياسة التوطين، قامت كليات التقنية العليا بتعيين عدد من المواطنين المؤهلين على وظائف مديري كليات.

تم تعيين سلطان حسين كرمستجي مديرا

لكليات التقنية العليا في أبو ظبي. شغل قبل

تعيينه الجديد وظيفة نائب المدير األكاديمي

في إدارة الخدمات المركزية بكليات التقنية

العليا. يعمل سلطان كرمستجي حاليا على

استكمال درجة الدكتوراه في إدارة األعمال

في جامعة جنوب كاليفورنيا في الواليات

المتحدة األمريكية، وهو حائز على درجة

الماجستير في اإلبداع االقتصادي ودرجة

البكالوريوس في تكنولوجيا المعلومات من

كليات التقنية العليا. يعمل سلطان في

كليات التقنية العليا منذ العام 200٥ حيث

شغل وظيفة المدير التنفيذي لمركز التفوق

لألبحاث التطبيقية والتدريب قبل تولي دوره

القيادي في قسم الخدمات الطالبية المركزية

بكليات التقنية العليا. قبل االلتحاق بالعمل

في كليات التقنية العليا، عمل سلطان

كرمستجي كمنسق مشروع في وزارة

الداخلية بالدولة.

تم تعيين الدكتور سعود المال مديرا لكليات

التقنية العليا في دبي، وهو حائز على درجة

الدكتوراه في الدراسات اإلعالمية والثقافية

من جامعة غلوسترشاير في المملكة

المتحدة، وعلى درجة الماجستير في

اإلنتاج السينمائي والتلفزيوني من جامعة

بريستول في المملكة المتحدة، باإلضافة

إلى درجة البكالوريوس في االتصال

المؤسسي واإلدارة اإلعالمية من كليات

التقنية العليا. يعمل د. سعود المال في

كليات التقنية العليا منذ العام 200٥ حيث

بدأ مسيرته المهنية كعضو هيئة تدريس

وشغل بعدها وظيفة رئيس قسم ومدير

مساعد خالل العام المنصرم. قبل االلتحاق

بالعمل في كليات التقنية العليا، شغل د.

سعود المال وظائف فنية في شركة أدنوك،

وتلفزيون أبوظبي، كما عمل في مجال

العالقات العامة في شركة بحرية.

تم تعيين همسة صالح العماري مديرة

لكليات التقنية العليا في العين، حيث تميزت

بجهودها المبذولة لتنفيذ سياسة التوطين

كمديرة لقسم الموارد البشرية بكليات التقنية

العليا. وتعمل همسة حاليا على استكمال

درجة الدكتوراه في المؤسسات واإلدارة

في جامعة كابيال في الواليات المتحدة

األمريكية. حصلت على درجة الماجستير

في اإلدارة االستراتيجية للموارد البشرية

في جامعة ولونجونج ودرجة البكالوريوس

والدبلوم العالي في إدارة األعمال من كليات

التقنية العليا. تعمل همسة صالح في كليات

التقنية العليا منذ العام 2002 حيث شغلت

عدة وظائف في قسم الخدمات الطالبية

في كلية العين للطالبات، كما شغلت خالل

السنوات السبع الماضية وظائف هامة في

قسم الموارد البشرية بكليات التقنية العليا.

قبل االلتحاق بالعمل في كليات التقنية

العليا، عملت همسة في بنك رأس الخيمة.

مع حلول العام الدراسي الجديد المليء بالفرص، حيث نرحب بالطلبة وأعضاء هيئة التدريس الجدد ونستقبل البرامج الدراسية

الجديدة والشراكات المهنية المحتملة، نتأمل من خالل هذا العدد من مجلة الراوي بعض الفعاليات الرائعة واإلنجازات

احتفاالت الذكرى السنوية الخامسة والعشرين لتأسيس كليات التقنية العليا. مع مرور ربع قرن من التميز، شعرنا بالفخر

واالعتزاز كوننا نشكل جزءا هاما من تاريخ ومستقبل دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة. إن مشاعر الفخر وااللتزام تحثنا على

المضي قدما في مسيرة التميز خالل العام المقبل.

في العام المقبل ستلتزم كليات التقنية العليا بكافة فروعها السبعة عشر بتعزيز ثقافة اإلبداع والتطور. بصفتها أكبر مؤسسة

للتعليم العالي في الدولة، ستستمر الكليات في تزويد طلبتها بالمهارات والمعارف األساسية المطلوبة لمواكبة العالم الحديث

وتحفيز طموحهم.

إلى ذلك، تتبع الكليات نهج التعلم بالممارسة وتركز على دمج التكنولوجيا في عملية التعليم والتعلم، مما يساعدها على

تحديد أعلى المستويات األكاديمية، وإثراء التجارب الطالبية، وتحسين المحصالت التعليمية. فلنعمل معا على تحقيق أهدافنا

جانب االحتفاالت والمسابقات، بما ذلك مسابقة اإلبداع التي أقيمت بالتعاون مع شركة نورثروب جرومان ومباريات وارتون

لإلبداع، ومؤتمرات اللغة االنجليزية، والرياضيات، والهندسة، والدورة العاشرة من جائزة أبو ظبي للصناعة. كما احتضن هذا

.iCelebrate العام فعاليات أخرى تركز على التكنولوجيا، مثل المبادرة االتحادية للتعليم النقال ومؤتمرات

كرئيس لكليات التقنية العليا، أتيحت لي فرصا رائعة لزيارة عدد من الكليات واللقاء مع الطلبة وأعضاء الهيئتين التدريسية

واإلدارية. وقد كان لي شرف اللقاء مع صاحب السمو الشيخ حمد بن محمد الشرقي، عضو المجلس األعلى، حاكم الفجيرة،

عند زيارتي لكليات التقنية في الفجيرة مؤخرا، كما تشرفت بلقاء سمو الشيخ حمدان بن زايد آل نهيان، ممثل الحاكم في

المنطقة الغربية، عند زيارة كليات التقنية العليا في مدينة زايد.

خالل هذه اللقاءات تسنى لي التحدث مع أصحاب السمو حول استراتيجيات كليات التقنية العليا وخططها المستقبلية،

والتي تشمل تعزيز اللغة العربية وضمان قدرة كليات التقنية العليا على االستجابة الكاملة الحتياجات ومتطلبات سوق العمل

بالدولة. وإنني أتطلع إلى استكمال جولتي في الكليات كافة واللقاء مع الطلبة وأعضاء هيئة التدريس والتعرف على الممارسات

التعليمية المبتكرة في العملية التعليمية.

ومع احتفالنا بالذكرى الخامسة والعشرين لتأسيس كليات التقنية العليا، نرى أن هذا هو الوقت المناسب لنمضي قدما في

مواجهة التحديات والفرص خالل السنوات المقبلة. ويتمثل هدفنا في إبراز مكانة كليات التقنية العليا كإحدى أفضل مؤسسات

التعليم العالي في الدولة، وكذلك إبراز تميز خريجيها الذين يحظون بإقبال شديد في سوق العمل بالدولة. إلى ذلك، سنبذل

قصارى جهدنا لترسيخ التزامنا بنهج "التعلم بالممارسة"، ومواصلة تعزيز سياسة التوطين بناء على توجيهات حكومتنا

الرشيدة، إضافة إلى تطوير العالقات اإليجابية مع شتى قطاعات العمل والمؤسسات البارزة، بما يضمن إكساب طلبة

الكليات المهارات المتقدمة المطلوبة في سوق العمل وفق أعلى المستويات.

ستطرح كليات التقنية العليا هذا العام برامج الدبلوم التطبيقي الجديدة في مجاالت عديدة، مثل تكنولوجيا الهندسة والتربية،

حيث تم إعدادها بالتعاون مع جهات العمل البارزة بالدولة. وتهدف هذه البرامج إلى تسهيل عملية إيجاد الوظائف المناسبة

للخريجين، وإتاحة الفرصة لمن يرغب منهم لاللتحاق ببرامج البكالوريوس في العلوم التطبيقية. ويعكس هذا المسار األكاديمي

الجديد االلتزام الراسخ لكليات التقنية العليا بتوفير التعليم النوعي المتميز ألبناء وبنات الوطن.

وعلى أبواب هذه المرحلة الجديدة من التطور والنمو، فإنني أتطلع إلى قراءة المزيد من قصص النجاح واإلنجازات التي

يحققها طلبة كليات التقنية العليا في كافة المجاالت، والتي تعتبر فخرا لدولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة.
