Share Your Story!

Did Go365 help you achieve your goals? We want to hear from you! If you would like to share your inspirational story of how Go365 helped you to improve your health and wellbeing, please contact Dina Marshall, your HCPS Wellbeing Coordinator, at 813-272-4479 or [email protected].

35% Total Go365 Participation

in 2017In 2017, 35% of eligible HCPS employees participated in Go365. That’s 10% higher compared to 2016! If you haven’t already joined, we encourage you to go to go365.com today and help us reach our goal of 100% participation!

35%

Van was introduced to Humana Vitality when he was the Principal at Jefferson High School. He linked his Garmin step tracker to his account and watched the Points begin to add up. When Humana Vitality transitioned to the Go365 program a year ago, Van was pleasantly surprised by how simple the new program was to use and navigate.

One big plus for Van was the ability to earn Go365 Points faster. As an avid runner, Van noticed that, “Instead of earning only 15 Points per day, I now earn up to a maximum of 50 Points per day for 50,000 steps.” In addition, he’s receiving 50 bonus Points once he reaches 50 workout Points for the week or 100 bonus Points if he reaches 100 workout Points.

The Points system has been a great motivator for Van. It’s giving him what he calls “instant positive feedback,” which he finds rewarding in and of itself. It has even helped create a friendly competition between him and his wife Mileidys—a teacher at the Virtual School—to see who can earn more Points and, consequently, more Go365 Bucks. Spending those Bucks has gotten easier with Go365 too. “Amazon gift cards are my favorite way to spend our Bucks,” he says.

All in all, Go365 has helped Van on his health and wellness journey to achieve both his workout goals and his goal of sleeping seven hours per night.

Midyear Benefit Plan ChangesChange is the only constant in life. – Heraclitus

Have you recently experienced a life change?

marriage divorce birth/adoption taking or returning from leave of absence spouse or dependent gained or lost employment or

participation in a government insurance program

These are just some of the qualified change-in-status events that may impact your District employee benefits.

Follow these important steps anytime you experience a life change:

2. Inquire about the impact to your benefits and what documentation you willbe required to provide.

3. Make the allowed changes and submit the required documentation(within 60 days of the event date or the change opportunity will expire).

4. Look for communication in your secured Alight email box(at sdhc.selfservicenow.com if you elected paperless) or U.S. mailand follow up with Alight on your coverage election changes.

Chicken Soup for Your HeartA heart-healthy diet doesn’t mean you have to starve yourself or give up all your favorite foods. What it does require is a little meal planning and choosing foods that won’t clog the system. As 2018 kicks into second gear, take these smart eating tips to heart.

Enjoy Home Cooking and Save Money • Read nutrition labels and choose foods that have a short ingredient list.

• Try to maximize your grocery shopping by focusing on the perimeter of thestore to find produce, meats, and minimally processed foods.

• Fresh is best, but frozen or canned fruits and vegetables without additivesare a reasonable alternative.

• Consider selecting fruit canned in its own juices, not in sugary syrup.

• Fresh fish or lean meats are good protein selections.

Be Strategic When Eating OutDining out means relinquishing control over food preparation to someone who is probably more interested in taste than nutrient quality. It can help to approach eating out with a strategy.

• Consider restaurants that are amenable to your food preparation requests.

• Ask for more vegetables instead of french fries or mashed potatoes, and avoidheavy cream-based sauces.

• Look for restaurants that offer vegetarian options, fresh seafood, and whole grains.

• Stay away from deep-fried foods.

Beware of Trendy DietsThe American Heart Association and other health organizations support the DASH diet—which stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. This heart-healthy diet helps with blood pressure control and weight loss by emphasizing foods low in saturated fat, total fat, cholesterol, and salt. No special foods are required. The diet relies heavily on fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy foods as well as whole grains, poultry, fish, and nuts.

Drink to Your HealthWhat you drink is as important as what you eat. Medical studies have found links between added sugar, including sugar-sweetened beverages, and increased risks of heart disease. Think of ways to eat healthy foods, not drink unhealthy calories.

• Choose water instead of soda or other sweetened beverages at meals. Exploreflavoring water with lemon, lime, or cucumber for natural flavoring.

• Try skim milk, black coffee, or tea without sugar or cream.

• Avoiding or limiting all types of sugary drinks can help with overall health.

• Specialty coffee drinks can be a calorie and sugar culprit if they are loaded withsugar, syrups, and creams.

• Alcoholic beverages are empty calories, but if you must indulge, limit consumptionto one or two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women.

Aetna Resources for Living Is All About YOU!Self-Care—Master the Balancing Act As the saying goes, life is a balancing act. Sometimes you need a reminder that it’s okay to take some time for yourself. Your schedule can get so overloaded that you get exhausted just trying to keep up. Take a few moments to self-assess and see where you can sneak in some “me” time:

Start with the basics. Make sure you are eating enough each day, and getting restful sleep. This might require some meal prep and going to bed earlier than usual. On average you should aim for three moderate meals a day and about seven to nine hours of sleep.

Assess your time. For a week or two, write down your general activities and classify them as “for me” and “for others.” You’ll find that you may want to say “no” to some “for others” activities.

Carve out quiet time. Whether you take a few quiet moments before the day starts, or ride home from work in silence, it’s important to explore what is really on your mind. Incorporate time in your busy schedule to tune in to your thoughts through silent reflection, meditation, or prayer.

Be active. Take a walk around your neighborhood or the school, or do yoga in a nearby park—get creative with the time you have surrounding work and the weekends. You might find that spending active time outdoors will give you more energy to conquer the week ahead.

Trust the process. Often, planning time for you is easier said than done. The important thing is taking a first step. Give yourself a grace period to adjust to a new activity or schedule. Caring for you is a daily process that is worth the reward for a healthy, balanced life.

Recipe of the MonthChicken and Mushrooms in a Garlic White Wine Sauce (2 Smart Points | 217 calories) Try this great-tasting, 20-minute dish. It’s perfect for busy weeknights! Serve it with brown rice, pasta, quinoa, or farro on the side, or with roasted veggies and a salad.

Ingredients 8 chicken tenderloins, 16 ounces total

2 teaspoons butter

2 teaspoons olive oil

¼ cup all-purpose flour

3 cloves garlic, minced

12 ounces sliced mushrooms

¼ cup white wine1/3 cup fat free chicken broth

Salt and fresh pepper to taste

¼ cup chopped fresh parsley

InstructionsPreheat oven to 200°F. Season chicken with salt and pepper. Lightly dredge in flour.

Heat a large skillet on medium heat; when hot add 1 teaspoon butter and 1 teaspoon olive oil.

Add chicken to the skillet and cook on medium heat for about 5 minutes on each side, or until chicken is no longer pink. Set aside in a warm oven.

Add additional oil and butter to the skillet, then garlic and cook a few seconds; add mushrooms, salt, and pepper, stirring occasionally until golden, about 5 minutes.

Add wine, chicken broth, parsley; stir the pan with a wooden spoon, breaking up any brown bits from the bottom of the pan. Cook a few more minutes or until the liquid reduces by half. Top the chicken with the mushroom sauce and serve.
