Platinum SpotlightAmie Simmons, Speech-Language Pathologist at Dickenson Elementary

Three years ago, Amie Simmons knew nothing about the Humana Go365 program. Today she’s a Wellness Champion spreading information, assistance, and encouragement to everyone around her.

Amie first learned about the Go365 program in the Spring of 2014 when Dickenson Elementary hosted a wellness presentation. That presentation sparked her to get a biometric screening there. Around the same time, she received a Fitbit, giving her added incentive to get moving.

In 2015, Amie volunteered to take the lead on scheduling the presentation and screenings at Dickenson, and she continues to make sure her colleagues are connected and engaged with Go365. She helps others to register their account, sign up for monthly challenges, and connect their fitness devices. “I enjoy motivating everyone to participate so they can all become healthier while earning extra Points toward free merchandise,” she explained.

These days, Amie helps Dickenson set up the Biggest Loser and Commit to Fit Challenges. “We like the monthly challenges because they not only motivate us to add more steps, but it also helps to unite the staff as a team.”

Amie’s husband also participates in Go365 through his employer’s Humana health plan. They keep each other on track to stay healthy by exercising and completing their preventive care exams. The couple has turned their Go365 activities into a friendly rivalry, which Amie says is a win for both of them. “We enjoy seeing who can earn the most Points,” she joked.

Amie’s spent her Bucks on a free Fitbit as well as Amazon, Target, and Lowes gift cards, which she’s used toward the purchase of new outdoor furniture. Congratulations to Amie on reaching Go365 Platinum Status while helping the staff at Dickenson with their wellness goals.

New HCPS Go365 Challenge: HCPS Fall Fast Step If you haven’t joined another challenge or team in October, you will earn 50 Points for joining the Fall Fast Step Challenge and another 50 Points for joining a team.

Challenge starts October 15 and ends October 22, 2017Register October 1–14, 2017• You must be a Go365 member to participate.

October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month One in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. However, with early detection and treatment, you can greatly improve your chance of survival.

There are three steps you can take to help minimize your risk of breast cancer.

1. Breast self-awareness. Become familiar with how your breasts feel and look. Be sure to watch for the following and, if seen, consult with your physician:

• A lump or thickening in or near the breast or in the underarm area

• A change in the size or shape of the breast

• Dimpling or puckering in the skin of the breast

• A nipple turned inward

• Discharge (fluid) from the nipple

• Scaly, red, or swollen skin on the breast, nipple, or areola (the dark area of skin at the center of the breast)

2. Annual well-woman exam. Visit your primary care physician or your gynecologist to have a breast exam that checks for any abnormalities. Use this opportunity to ask any questions you may have about your breast health.

3. Mammograms. This screening can detect cancer even before you can feel the lump.

Talk to your doctor about the recommendations that are right for you.

Questions to Ask Before a MammogramBefore you get a mammogram, you may want to ask your health care provider the following questions:

• What should I do to prepare for my mammogram?

• Who will receive my mammogram report? Can you send it to my other doctors?

• How long will the mammogram take?

• Do you have my previous mammogram results?

• When will I learn about the results?

• Who will notify me of my results?

• What happens if the mammogram shows something abnormal?

• Will I have to pay anything for a mammogram?

Schedule and Prepare for Your Mammogram• Schedule your mammogram a few days after your menstrual cycle (if applicable).

This is when your breasts are least sensitive.

• Make sure you have a list of where and when you had any previous mammograms, as well as the results of those mammograms.

• The facility should provide you with instructions on what to do the day of your mammogram, such as avoiding deodorant, lotions, and perfumes, and bringing your ID and insurance card.

Get Your Breast Cancer ScreeningsIf you are a female over the age of 40, it’s time to start getting mammograms. Medical plan statistics show that 227 (out of 231) HCPS Humana medical plan members diagnosed with cancer did not receive regular screenings prior to being diagnosed.

There is no cost for Humana members to have a screening mammogram as part of preventive care.

Earn 400 Go365 PointsWhen you get a health screening, which includes mammograms, you’ll earn 400 Points. Be sure to submit the Prevention Activity Form, available online, within 90 days to earn Points. Go365 members with Humana medical coverage will automatically earn Points once the claim has been received and processed.

2-D vs 3-D? A 2-D mammogram is the two-dimensional X-ray of your breast, while 3-D creates a three-dimensional image of your breast. Several studies have shown that 3-D mammograms find more cancers than traditional 2-D mammograms and also reduce the number of false positives. There may be an additional cost for a 3-D mammogram.

Tampa Bay Mobile Mammography A number of HCPS attendees at the Saturday Benefits Education Meeting and Health Fair received a mammogram in the Tampa Bay Mobile Mammography bus. Aimee Fonda, School Counselor at Williams Middle Magnet School had this to say:

“I am so excited to share how great this experience was! Tampa Bay Mobile Mammography bus was super convenient, the staff was so friendly and, most importantly, I was in and out fast! I got to check off one of the most important items on that yearly to do list! I highly recommend it!”

Breast Cancer Support From Resources for LivingIf you or a loved one are diagnosed with breast cancer and you are not sure how to cope with the emotional impact a cancer diagnosis brings, consider calling Resources for Living and speaking to a counselor to get the support you need.

Confidential services are available to you and your household members, including dependent children up to age 26, whether they live at home or not. Benefits include up to five FREE confidential counseling sessions per year per issue per person.

If you or a family member calls the toll-free number, neither your employer nor anyone else will know you used the program unless you choose to tell them. All our counselors are qualified mental health professionals. But most of all, it’s important for you to be comfortable. Recipe of the MonthWeight Watchers Roasted Greek-Style Chicken and Vegetables (4 Smart Points) Ingredients: 2 sprays cooking spray

5 teaspoons olive oil, extra virgin, divided

3 medium garlic cloves, chopped

1 ½ teaspoons dried oregano

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

2 teaspoons lemon zest, divided

½ teaspoons table salt, or to taste 1/4 teaspoons black pepper, freshly ground, or to taste

DirectionsPreheat oven to 450 degrees. Coat a large nonstick baking pan with cooking spray.

In a large bowl, combine 4 teaspoons oil with garlic, oregano, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and 1 teaspoon lemon zest; add vegetables and toss to coat. Lift vegetables out of bowl with a slotted spoon, leaving some oil mixture in bowl. Place vegetables in an even layer on one side of prepared pan, leaving room for chicken. Add chicken to bowl and turn to coat; place on empty side of pan.

Roast until vegetables are tender and chicken is cooked through, about 15 to 20 minutes, stirring vegetables once. Drizzle vegetables with remaining 1 teaspoon each of oil and lemon zest; toss to coat. Drizzle chicken with any pan juices.

Serving size: 3 ounces of chicken and 1 cup of vegetables

2 small uncooked zucchini (or 1 large), sliced 1/4-inch thick

2 cups grape tomatoes, halved

14 ounces canned artichoke hearts without oil, drained well and halved

1 pound uncooked boneless skinless chicken breast(s)
