Our hollow auger system – HBS is a commonly used drilling tool for dry rotary drilling while preventing drill-hole collapse without having to use a protective casing.

The NORDMEYER SMAG HBS-SYSTEM works fast and profi tably without inner drill pipes. The system can be extended to handle a variety of drilling tasks and superbly complements common dry rotary drilling tools.

Depending on the type of ground and the available rig power, the HBS-System can be used for many specialised tasks with depths down to around 30 metres.

Nordmeyer SMAG hollow auger systems are eff ec-tive and economical drilling tools for the kinds of dry drilling situations where collapse is to be expected in the drill hole, but where casings are not to be used.

The pilot bit, together with the locking auger mechanism, is inserted into the bottom auger and locked into the locking auger before drilling begins. The operator can drill down to the required depth by adding more hollow augers.

Once the required depth has been reached, a catcher spear is inserted into the auger pipe. This catcher spear locks into the locking auger mechanism and can then be extended with the pilot bit. The auger pipe, which is now completely hollow, can now be used for other work.

Additional applications:

Sample extraction with an RKR drive sampler: + An RKR drive sampler is inserted into the auger pipe. It is driven into the ground using a ramming weight and a percussion mechanism. Once the core has been drilled out, a catcher mechanism with a lock system is used to bring the coring pipe back to the surface for retrieval.

Water well and level drillings with installation work, e. g. fi lter installations. Also: Injection drilling, Bolthole drilling, Root post drilling, Probe drilling, e. g. for geothermal purposes.

Rotary coring: Single, double tube or wireline core barrels are drilled out using drill pipes. In the case of single or double tube barrels, the core is brought to the surface by extracting the drill pipes. Wireline core barrels are recovered using a latching mecha- nism. The drill pipes do not have to be extracted in this case.

Sample extraction using a push sampler: The push sampler has rotary bearings and therefore remains “standing„ during the drilling prodedure. The core pushes into the push sampler. Once the core has been drilled out, the push sampler is brought to the surface using a latching mechanism allowing the core to be retrieved.

The following is required for the HBS system:

Drilling mast with hydraulic drill feed and counter-pressure mechanism

Hydraulic power head with side swing-out mechanism and transition to a hollow auger

Hydraulic guide and bracing clamp with high clamping jaws

Hydraulic drill pipe break-out system (optional)

Cable winch with a pull-up force of at least 600 daN to pull the pilot bit (if RKS or BPE systems are used, 2 cable winches should be used)
