Detailed InformationResearch says…
ACL injuries occur ~5x more in female than male athletes 2/3 of ACL injuries are non-contact
o Landing from a jumpo Decelerationo Planting and cutting
Proposed risk factors for females… Neuromuscular
o Poor movement patterns during jump, land, pivot, cuto Muscle imbalances
Females are quadriceps dominant causing pulling on ACLo Muscle Stiffness
Anatomicalo Smaller intercondylar notch = smaller ACLo Wider hips result in poor knee angleso Hormonal changes resulting in increased joint laxity
What it looks like… Last year we had 4 girls complete the program, these are some before/after
examples of their knee position
As you can see, both pre photos display an extreme valgus position (knee diving in), which is a common position to tear an ACL. However, after 6 weeks of training, both girls display a much straighter (and safe) knee position.
We all know injuries are a natural part of sports and we will never be able to completely reduce this risk. However, research has proven that with the use of the Sportsmetrics program, the risk of ACL injury may be reduced by as much as 72%. In addition, the girls will gain valuable strength, speed and agility training to help prepare them for the upcoming year, both with club and high school teams.
This was a brief overview of the program, and it is by no means a mandatory thing, but it is something I hope you strongly consider, as I believe it will be very beneficial! If you have any further questions or would like to sign up, please email me at [email protected]. Once we know roughly how many people will be participating, I will send out more specific information regarding pre-testing and training dates/times.
