HB5 Preparatory Courses Each school district shall partner with at least one IHE (institution of higher education) to provide college preparatory courses in math and ELA to prepare learners for success in entry-level college courses (HB5, TEC Section 28.014 )◦ For students at the 12th grade level who do not meet college readiness

standards on◦ An EOC assessment instrument (English III & Algebra II) required under TEC Section

39.023(c); or◦ Coursework, college entrance exam, or assessment instrument

◦ To prepare students for success in entry-level college courses

Course may be offered either on the high school campus or online

HB5 Preparatory Courses A student who successfully completes an ELA college prep course may use the credit toward the advanced ELA curriculum requirement for the foundation high school program TEC Section 28.014

A student who completes a math college prep course may use the credit to satisfy an advanced math curriculum requirement after the student has completed the math curriculum requirements for the foundation high school program (Algebra I, Geometry, and other advanced Math) TEC Section 28.014

Exemption A learner who completes a college preparatory course under TEC Section 28.014 is exempt◦ For a period of twelve (12) months from the date of high school

graduation◦ Applies only at the IHE that partners with the school district in which

the student is enrolled ◦ An IHE may enter into an MOU with a partnering IHE to accept the

exemption for the college preparatory course (TAC 4.54)

ISDs contact IHE to establish MOU ISD agrees to the following for the college Advanced Mathematics course:

◦ To administer the Temple College developed or approved final exam◦ The exam will be graded by the ISDs according to the rubrics provided by TC◦ These exams will then be submitted to Temple College for review

To ensure transferability of the course grade to Temple College, the learner’s grade for the course must be at least 75 with a final exam grade of at least 60
