Overview of past months
⚫ Successful fire management during what was a hot and dry extended summer period.
⚫ Mine rehabilitation activities have continued in earnest, in what is known as the earthworks season, with activities well
advanced in the areas of the Mine known as the Eastfield Northern batters and Westfield Southern batters.
⚫ A large scope of earthworks has been completed on the former Hazelwood Ash Pond 1 in preparation for the approved
onsite EPA licensed landfill, referred to as the Asbestos Containment Area, to receive the first asbestos waste from the
Hazelwood demolition activities.
⚫ Following negotiations with the EPA, our operational licence has been amended to allow the receipt of asbestos material
from the adjacent Energy Brix Australia (EBAC) site. ENGIE Hazelwood continues to undertake discussions with the
administrators of EBAC.
⚫ Tender evaluation and criteria assessment has been completed for the appointment of a demolition contractor for site-wide
demolition activities. Contract negotiations with the preferred demolition tenderer continue, with the signing of the
agreement imminent.
⚫ Safety remains our highest priority. Our employees and contractors continue to place ‘Safety First’ at the forefront of all
activities they undertake on site with some 1,102 days having passed since out last Lost Time Accident. An outstanding
health and safety performance.
⚫ Announcement of the permanent closure of the Hazelwood Cooling Pond has seen ENGIE Hazelwood representatives
undertaking ongoing engagement activities with stakeholders including Latrobe City Council, the waterway manager and
engage with key user groups around the closure and the impact this will have on these groups.

Overview of the year to date
Hazelwood Cooling Pond
⚫ The decision has not been taken lightly. We wanted to explore all options following the receipt of the final report from the
independent consultants, GHD, which was third party peer reviewed from independent consultants, Golder.
⚫ The final report on the integrity of the Hazelwood Pondage walls recommended lowering the water level by a further 1.7
metres.
⚫ We understand that user groups and the community are disappointed with the decision however as the owner of the
pondage, we are responsible for managing the risks and we will not compromise on community safety.
⚫ The study, which involved extensive site geotechnical field sampling and laboratory testing, was completed by dams
engineering consultants at GHD and found that the Pondage walls have deteriorated significantly with age.
⚫ Construction of the facility started 57 years ago when it was built to circulate and cool water for reuse in the Power Station
operations.
⚫ After the Pondage was temporarily closed in June 2018, the water level was lowered by one metre to remove the pressure
from the dam walls. The water level continues to be lowered with the additional 1.7 metres expected to be reached by
October.
⚫ We continue to monitor the dam walls daily and our early warning system remains in place.
⚫ Monitoring of water quality discharges from the Pondage continues on a weekly basis, as required by our EPA Licence.

⚫ To allow all attendees to feel comfortable in raising a question or making a statement, we are drawing on the seven
integrated design principles offered by the World Café methodology which is a simple, effective and flexible format for
hosting large group dialogue.
⚫ Participants will move around the four tables hosted by management:
⚫ Hazelwood Cooling Pond – Garry Wilkinson and Ross Brooker
⚫ Demolition – Tom McDowall
⚫ Asbestos and dust management – Tony Innocenzi and Shane Cane
⚫ Community Engagement – Lauren Carey and Ryan Auger
⚫ Each group will move in a clockwise direction, spending 15 minutes at each table where you will be able to ask
management questions on the various topics.
⚫ A scribe at each table will act as a time keeper and record any questions on notice from participants.
