Equipment Failure

All 5 All Equipment is to be checked before the set up of the activity. Items deemed to be faulty are to be removed from use, tagged

with fault and placed in the quarantine box. Daily inspection to be completed and signed. Monthly inspections to be completed and logged. Regular maintenance is carried out on all equipment

Falling from a height

Participants 5 All instructors are trained and assessed by a competent person All instructors are monitored periodically to ensure that procedure

are being followed All participants are provided with a suitable climbing waist and

chest harness. All participants are provided with a suitable climbing helmet The instructor explains how to fit the harness correctly and

checked before assent that the harness is fitted correctly. At all times whilst climbing and on the activity the participant is

connected to a safety rope using a suitable climbing knots and karabiners.

The instructor monitors the group to make sure no one climbs before the instructor has checked their equipment and safety rope.

The instructor is responsible for lowering the participant from the activity

Staff in control of descent rope, if descent is to rapid the instructor can slow or stop the descent by pulling down on the rope.

Four main points are described and demonstrate to the participant whilst being attached to the zip wire system. Instructor at the end of the line also knows these four main points used to safely lower the participant to the ground.

Instructor is in control of the belay rope at all time when the participant is climbing.

All 5

When not in use equipment is either in the equipment safe or in the stores.

Ropes are tied up. Access ladders is locked to the equipment safe the rescue ladder is locked in the descent area . Staples do not start on the pole until above the height of a

ladder

Instructor to be trained in the correct rescue technique. Guests must walk at all times. Rope is correctly coiled and flaked over the forearm. Or held in

the hand All ropes are checked so to minimise the possibility of

entrapment. Instructor to demonstrate how to use gri-gri properly. Before leaving the platform the instructor will insure that there

are not ropes around the participant that will cause an obstruction

Structure failure

All 5

Daily visual inspections of structure carried out during set up and logged on sheets.

Detailed monthly structure checks carried out and recorded. Areas of concerns to be inspected by technical advisor.

Annual inspection is carried out by the technical advisor .

1

Strangulation

Participants 5 Loose items of clothing (e.g necker’s) are removed. All equipment is checked that it fits correctly with particular

attention paid to chest harness and ensuring that the chest harness and sit harness are joined correctly to create one continuous full body harness.

Ropes are kept tight where possible to stop loops forming Before leaving the platform the instructor make sure there are

no ropes caught around them

2

Impact from Rider All 5 Ensure route under wire is clear, instructor at the bottom of the wire should shout ‘clear’.

Instructor for Grass Sledging ensures that the group understands not to go under the wire.

Instructor will not begin to launch if it is not clear. Gri Gri on descent rope is tightened to ensure the rider does not

hang to low. Descent and safety ropes are shortened prior to launch to prevent impact with the ground and to reduce length of swing at back stopper

Impact with rear pole Participant 4 Maximum weight limit for activity is set at 15 Stone. This is explained to participants at the beginning of the activity.

There are signs explaining the maximum weight Natural stop for the activity is a gravity stop two thirds down the

line. A tyre is fitted to the wire prior to the rear pole as a back up to

prevent collision. Descent and safety ropes are shortened prior to launch to

prevent impact with the ground and to reduce length of swing if The zip trolley comes into contact with the tyre.

1

Instructor impact with ground

Instructor 5 All instructors when accessing are to have a fall arrest in place and a secondary fall arrest.

All instructors are trained and assessed by a competent person. Positioning equipment is not to be used as a fall arrest. Staples are not to be used as an anchor point (Advised by
