Dear Sisters & Brothers in the Lord,

Merry Christmas! I welcome you to Sacred Heart! I rejoice in your presence with our worshiping

community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgies for Christmas and for the Feast of the Holy Family this weekend. Your presence and prayerful participation bless our parish community. May your time in prayer lift your spirit and strengthen your faith. Thanks for joining us! Do you remember “baseball doubleheaders”? As a young person they seemed like a bargain, two for the price of one. Perseverance was required for the doubleheaders of yesterday. This weekend is a Liturgical doubleheader! After the weeks of Advent preparation, we celebrate the Birth of Christ with the Vigil on Friday and Liturgies on Christmas Day. Savoring the sights and sounds of Christmas and pondering God’s Love exhibited in the Birth of Jesus, Savior and Prince of Peace, seems short lived as we move quickly into the Feast honoring Joseph, Mary and Jesus as “Family.” It really isn’t short lived!! Christmas, in the Liturgical calendar and in our spiritual journey, is really a “season.” The Christmas Season extends until the Baptism of the Lord, January 9th. We are to reflect on God becoming man as we listen to the stories surrounding the Birth of Christ. The visit of the Magi (wise men from the East), the journey of the Holy Family and the Baptism of Jesus all give evidence of Jesus as God’s Chosen One. May we persevere through the Christmas Season ever attentive to the rich spiritual lessons our Liturgies present. May we persevere in celebrating the Birth of Christ by witnessing to our Catholic Faith and values. I extend to you and your family my prayers for a Christmas Season filled with peace and joy. Peace be with you! God bless, Fr. McKee

P.S. Many thanks to all who contributed their time and talent in making our Christmas Liturgies a joyful gathering of God’s people!

What a way to begin the new

year!

December 25, 2010 Dear Friends in Christ, May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!

As we celebrate this holy feast of Christmas, the words of the Angel spoken to the shepherds are proclaimed anew: “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy . . . a savior has been born for you who is Christ and Lord.” The Church makes these words her own as she announces to all people the joy and peace that were born on Christmas morning. These words of the Angel led the shepherds to search out the infant Jesus and to encounter Him in the presence of Mary and Joseph, the Holy Family. So too for us, the words of the Angel invite us to contemplate the joy and hope of this Christmas day. God has sent us a Savior, His Son who brings us lasting peace. And so: Do not be afraid! Our Savior is born. Let us adore Him, with Mary and Joseph, through our fidelity to prayer, especially in the celebration of Mass. And with the Angel of the Lord, the shepherds, and the whole Church, let us make the message of Christ’s birth known to all, especially by our love for one another. May the Lord Jesus continue to bless you and may our Mother Mary and Saint Joseph watch over you always.

Sincerely in Christ, + Justin Card. Rigali Cardinal Justin Rigali
