Jan 2020 “The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written.” —Melody Beattie Happy New Year Everyone!!! Together ~ Staff, Volunteers, Board and Our Community we achieved so much in 2019 ….. We cared for 250 families—providing support, hands on care, equipment and bereavement follow up in their hardest of days. We were inspired by the courage of our patients in the face of adversity and the ability of families to come together and care for their loved ones. We received recognition for our model of care from both the State and Federal Government and with that recognition wonderful new funding contracts to ease our fundraising burden and prepare us for the challenges ahead. We worked hard for and received full NSQHS (National Safety and Quality Health Care Standards) accreditation with an “Unprecedented” Nil recommendations. Yah Us! Our volunteers provided 16000 hrs of support across all aspects of our service from respite care to fundraising. Our Market Place went from strength to strength—Raising $140K last year and on track to exceed that this year. Our container exchange station performed well and attracted a $10K grant from the Qld Govt for improvements and to ease some of the sorting burden. Our fundraising events were successful and well attended. Our community backed us every step of the way—Partnering our Care through their support. Our Model of Care attracted the interest of many other communities across the country. We presented locally, at State and National Conferences and were visited by others hoping to emulate our care. We walked together in gratitude and came together as a community in Little Haven Week 2019. We have provided our community with ongoing information in Living, Dying and Grieving Well and ensured our services were always there to support their end of life wishes. And we celebrated our successes with a short video - A snapshot of Little Haven in 2019 As we move into our 40th year we do so with increased funding security, absolute confidence in our model of care and a fantastic team supporting this model. 2020—International Year of THE NURSE will be a great opportunity for us to celebrate Little Haven’s 40 years. Stay tuned for more information to come. We hope all who have been a part of Little Haven’s history will be able to join us in celebration. 14 Henry Street, Gympie QLD 4570 CONTACT PO Box 80, Gympie 4570 Ph: (07) 5482 9091 Fax: (07) 5482 9689 www.lilehaven.org.au Thank you for your care, your support and all your contributions in 2019—A historic year for Little Haven. Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Our community backed us every step of the way—Partnering our

Care through their support. Our Model of Care attracted the interest of many other

communities across the country.

And we celebrated our successes with a short video - A snapshot of Little Haven in 2019

As we move into our 40th year we do so with increased funding security, absolute confidence in our model of care and a fantastic team supporting this model. 2020—International Year of THE NURSE will be a great opportunity for us to celebrate Little Haven’s 40 years. Sharing Our Model of Care ….…

We joined with PCQ to document our Hospice

    Models in Qld

    In Tasmania

    At Woodford ….

    In Print

    And everywhere in between ...

We spoke of Death, Dying, Loss and Grief ...

And we spoke of LIVING ♥ Community Forums and State Forums

Because our patients have so much to live for ♥ We shared their special moments and stood in awe of their courage ♥

We bore witness to their loss, supported those who grieved for them …. and we remembered them ♥

    Our support was appreciated ♥

♥ With love and thanks to the Little Haven team for the sensitive care and support you provide for our community. ♥ Thank you so much for the service you provided for our family during such a confronting and scary time in our lives. The support from all of the staff helped us immensely and we are truly grateful to you all. Thank you, with love, peace and respect xxx ♥ My husband wished to be at home with family when he actually passed away. He was spiritually ready to go but was most apprehensive about the logistics of being at home. Carolyn was absolutely marvellous on her first visit to see him. She sat with him and very compassionately and clearly explained how this would be achieved and what fabulous, practical help was in place to achieve this. Everything happened just as Carolyn said and he passed away very peacefully surrounded by his family. Thanks and blessings to you all.

  • “A bend in the road is not the end of the road…Unless you fail to make the turn.”

We farewelled much loved nurses Narelle, Gen and Sally —retiring after giving so many years of service and Gary too ….

Did You Know our nurses attend the one day Driver Awareness Training through Roadcraft as part of their orientation? Whilst we have enjoyed this without fee for many years the cost is now $395 per driver. As our nurses spend all day and often night traversing all terrains in all conditions across our region we know this is money well spent. Nurses Sharon, Amy, Leanne and Eleanor attended the course in November and found the day enjoyable and very useful. I believe the instructor will be out of therapy soon. :)

We thank them for the loving care they have provided to so many families and know they will always be a part of the fabric of Little Haven . Big shoes to fill by Sharon, Leanne, Eleanor and Josie joining our team. Welcome ♥

Thank you to all who attended our AGM in September—77 LH and community members. The AGM is always a lovely night and this one in particular as we shared the good news of our funding after so many years of complaining about the lack of it. Ticking off the big ticket items on our strategic plan and future proofing the organisation for the years to come. Shoring it up against the increased challenges we face as our admission numbers climb at an alarming rate. “A Community Caring for Our Own”

I am but one in this atmosphere.

    One person. One smile.

    One body on these legs.

One heart beating furiously in my chest.

I am but one in this universe.

    One collection of cells.

    One set of lungs.

    One tiny mind spinning

    with thoughts, with words.

I am but one in this life.

But even one stone can make a ripple.

    One raindrop create a storm.

One step can change a course.

And though I am but one,

    I am strong.
