SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 8, 2020

THE VISITATION COLLABORATIVE

FROM THE PASTOR

Lent has gotten off to a roaring start! We have had our Lenten meal and faith sharing on Fridays, a brief reflection on faith on Wednesday evening and our St. Patrick’s Day party. This coming week, Fr. Thomas Macdonald will be having a short reflection on the virtue of charity at 7pm at St. Elizabeth Church. I hope that you can make it as I am sure that he will offer something that can help us grow closer to God. This past week I have been thinking about faith. I came to a deeper realization that when Jesus ap-peared to St. Faustina, He has given us the key to opening the door to happiness: to make acts of faith. As many people know, when Jesus appeared to St. Faustina, He told her to have an image of Himself commissioned and at the bottom It is to say, “Jesus, I trust in you.” Every at of faith is an act of entrusting ourselves to Jesus. To trust in Jesus is to believe in Him. To believe in Him means that we believe He is God, that we believe all that He says, and that’s we lovingly cling to Him and all that He reveals. A good point of reflection some time this week is to pray for the grace to make acts of faith/trust in God - that we may hang upon every word that comes from Him to us through the Mass, prayer, and in our daily lives AND that we might lovingly entrust ourselves to Him. What a blessed time we had together last weekend at our St. Patrick’s Party. There are so many people that have come up to me and expressed what an en-joyable time they had. I want to thank Laura Kessler, Denise Ilacqua and the team of organizers who helped to put together this wonderful evening. I also want to acknowledge and thank all those local busi-nesses that donated towards this fundraiser. Please consider supporting them if they are providing a ser-vice that you need. The most important thing about this event is that it once again brought us together and we had the opportunity to see old friends and meet new people. It is my hope that we can create more opportunities like this for people to meet one another. These social events help us to come together in faith and worship.

Hunger doesn’t have to exist — let’s end it together.

Rise Against Hunger operates meal packaging locations in 28 cities throughout the U.S. Since 1998, volunteers in the U.S. and worldwide have packaged about 500 million meals and provided aid in the form of emergency relief, medical supplies, clothing, school supplies and more to people in need. Help our collaborative to raise $5,200 towards feeding the hungry. Be one of our volunteers as we pack over 15,000 meals on March 21st. Call the office or email [email protected].

Visitation Collaborative’s Lenten Almsgiving Initiative

Our Goal: $5,200 Received to Date: $3,000

(58% - over half way there!) Still Hope to Receive: $2,200

Our next communal gathering outside of Mass and prayer is the Rise Against Hunger food packing event that will take place on Saturday, March 21st from 10am- 12pm. We are in need of parishioners who can help to pack these 15,000 meals. We are also in need of a few strong people who can help to set up at 9am and take down at 12pm. Please con-tact office or Will Rein to let us know that you can help. you to all who have made a Lenten Almsgiving toward this cause. Please pray for our young students who are prepar-ing to revive their First Communion this year. Next Saturday, March 14th, they will be going on retreat for a few hours with their parents to learn more about the Mass and Eucharist. Also, please pray for our Confirmation candidates who will be confirmed on March 28th. As they will be fully initiated into the life of Jesus, so may they live that life in Christ by serving God’s Church and His people. In Christ our hope, Fr. Bennett

Have you ever noticed that the busier you get, the harder it is to be a great Christian? It’s hard to be patient. It’s hard to find time to pray. It’s hard to grow in virtue. Saint Benedict figured

this out. He realized his daily routines—especially how he spent his mornings—had ma-jor impacts on his Christian life. We can learn

from him! Receive daily reflections like this one in your inbox by sign-ing up at DynamicCatholic.com. This year’s program is based on Rediscover the Saints by Matthew Kelly. Then, meet up with others on Friday nights for discussion. It is not necessary to read the book or receive the daily emails in order to enjoy the discussions. The evening be-gins at 6:00 PM. Just let us know if you want to be in the supper count.

Let the saints help you to Have Your Best Lent Ever!

St. Mary of the Hills Perpetual Candle

Light a candle in memory/honor of someone or for a particular intention. They are a great way of inviting others to pray for your intention and to let others know that they are being prayed for here at St. Mary of the Hills. Another way to use these candles is to have one lit in honor of a recently deceased family member or friend instead of sending flowers. The parish would send out a card letting the family know that their loved one is being re-membered with our candle here at the church.
