Have you told us your views in the NHS Staff Survey yet

Wersquore now just over halfway through this yearrsquos national NHS Staff Survey and wersquoregrateful to everyone whorsquos completed the survey already Our aim is for everyone to havethe opportunity to voice their opinion and have their say about working at the NCA

The more staff who complete the survey the more wersquore able to drive actual change andmake real improvements for you in your area

Finding the time to complete can be difficult and we appreciate the pressures many of ourteams are under The survey only takes 15 minutes and will make sure we haveinformation to inform future action plans and make the differences that matter to you at alocal level and across the NCA It can be completed when yoursquore on a break but the NCAExecutive team have made a commitment to allow all staff time to complete their surveyduring working hours Thatrsquos how important it is that we hear your opinion

Why did you apply for the role

I had experience with the development ofthe role of staff governor from the earlyinception of Foundation Trusts as a staffgovernor at Salford Care Organisation

I know that the role is important and gives the post holder the ability to help shape theTrust I wanted to work as that conduit between the staff and the Board I felt I couldrepresent the thoughts of the staff to the Board on important decisions keeping the staff at

the heart of the conversation as the staff are so important to everything we do as a Trust

Everything is interesting about the role It opens your eyes to some of the decisions thatneed to be taken at high level and the scrutiny that needs to be undertaken to ensure thatitrsquos the right choice for the patients staff and Trust

Bury community services shortlisted for Nursing Times award

The Bury community continence and stoma team are celebrating after being shortlisted fora Nursing Times award

The team were up for an award under the category of lsquochildrenrsquos servicesrsquo for theintroduction of home based training and support for Trans anal irrigation (TAI)

Prior to the introduction of support TAI had been taught to the child young person andtheir family in a hospital setting which would require multiple visits and increase the risk ofnosocomial infections

Though the team didnrsquot win we are incredibly proud of their achievements

Wendy Parker assistant director of nursing said ldquoUnfortunately we did not win the awardbut all the team are winners in my eyes and have done brilliantly well just to be shortlistedagainst strong national competitionrdquo

Consultant appointed new Associate Dean of Health Education EnglandNorth West

Congratulations to Dave Ross one of our consultant urologists at Salford CareOrganisation who has been appointed as the new Associate Dean of Health EducationEngland North West

Emma and Karen continue to make the difference

ldquoI would like to nominate my colleagues Emma Hamilton and Karen Pidlyskyj for the

segment onthinspcolleagues that have made me proud this week They run the breast cancerphysio service here at Salford They have recently started seeing head and neck patientsand are making huge differences to their patientsrsquo lives already

ldquoPrior to this service it was often difficult for patients to access any specialist physiotreatment at allthinspThey have had to do a lot of training to be able to expand their service andnothing is too much trouble for them They make us proud every dayrdquo - Annalisa Newsonspecialist physiotherapistadvanced practitioner Salford Care Organisation

Across the NCA our Mental Health Champions are providing vital support to colleagues inneed There is training available for anyone who would like to join our growing network ofchampions For more information please click here

Why did you become a MHC

To raise awareness that it is ok to not be ok I felt I would be a good asset to the MHCnetwork having first hand experience with mental health and I am passionate in ensuringpeople receive the appropriate support help and guidance

What do you enjoy about your role

The opportunity to listen help and guidesignpost those in need I also enjoy the networkmeetings as these provide us with the necessary knowledge and tools to support ourcolleagues in the Trust

What would your message be to a colleague who is struggling and feeling alone

Seek help The Trust is committed to removing the stigma of mental health and as part ofthe SCARF programme has developed lots of great initiatives to support staff

Personalised Stress Support Guide

No matter what your role is within the NCA you may have experienced or be experiencingconcerns around your wellbeing There is a wide range of dedicated information resourcesand helplines to support your mental and emotional wellbeing today

Managers can personalise the support guide with the name of their own service To accessthe guide - click here

SCARF Stress Management e-Support Programme

This programme has been specifically designed to provide you with the knowledge skillsand tools to recognise stress and anxiety in yourself as well as others and how toapproach great conversations and signpost to the appropriate support

The Bury community continence and stoma team are celebrating after being shortlisted fora Nursing Times award

The team were up for an award under the category of lsquochildrenrsquos servicesrsquo for theintroduction of home based training and support for Trans anal irrigation (TAI)

Prior to the introduction of support TAI had been taught to the child young person andtheir family in a hospital setting which would require multiple visits and increase the risk ofnosocomial infections

Though the team didnrsquot win we are incredibly proud of their achievements

Wendy Parker assistant director of nursing said ldquoUnfortunately we did not win the awardbut all the team are winners in my eyes and have done brilliantly well just to be shortlistedagainst strong national competitionrdquo

Why did you become a MHC

To raise awareness that it is ok to not be ok I felt I would be a good asset to the MHCnetwork having first hand experience with mental health and I am passionate in ensuringpeople receive the appropriate support help and guidance

What do you enjoy about your role

The opportunity to listen help and guidesignpost those in need I also enjoy the networkmeetings as these provide us with the necessary knowledge and tools to support ourcolleagues in the Trust

What would your message be to a colleague who is struggling and feeling alone
