Current Market StatisticsStrong Price Growth in

Durham RegionDurham Region Association of REALTORS® (DRAR) President Sandra O’Donohue reported 799 residential transactions and 958 new listings in November 2015. “We have seen an 8 per cent increase in the number of sales compared to November 2014,” reported O’Donohue. “In the same comparative time frame, there has been a 7.3 per cent increase in the number of listings entering the market”.

The average price for resale homes in the Durham Region for the month of November was $455,603. “The average price has risen 12.7 per cent compared to November 2014”, reported O’Donohue. The rate of average price growth for the first eleven months of the year is also 12.7 per cent.

“This year, we have seen a steady increase in price growth. Competition between buyers and low interest rates have resulted in upwards pressure on sale prices,” explained O’Donohue. “This is evidence that the demand for home ownership in Durham Region has remained strong throughout 2015”.

The Ontario Government Will Not be Expanding the Municipal Land Transfer Tax to

Durham Region

The Honourable Ted McMeekin, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, announced that the Government will not be extending the Municipal Land Transfer Tax power to Ontario municipalities outside of Toronto, where the power already exists.

“This is wonderful news for all current and future Ontario home owners,” said Sandra O’Donohue, President of Durham Region Association of REALTORS® (DRAR). “On behalf of DRAR, I would like to thank Minister McMeekin for listening to thousands of Ontarians who opposed the added tax.”

During Question Period, McMeekin declared: “I was

pleased to communicate our Government’s position today, that other than in Toronto, where the power already exists, our government will not be extending Municipal Land Transfer Tax powers to other Ontario municipalities.”

The Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) launched a major campaign in November that encouraged the public to speak up against the spread of the MLTT. Overall, 32,000 members of the public voiced their opposition to the spread of the added tax.

“I would like to thank OREA, DRAR Members as well as the many members of the public who made their voice known. You have helped keep home ownership affordable and we would not have seen this outcome without your continued support” commented O’Donohue.
