11/07/07Trees Ontario Program/ Quinte Forest Partnership

Along with Quinte Conservation, develop a landowner planting program to assist those property owners who wish to plant significant numbers of trees. Engage TOF to support this program financially and build a local delivery system that will function annually.

Provide for inceased capacity for tree planting in South Hastings. Target 30-40,000 trees annually. Jim Pedersen sits on Provincial Technical Committee.

Managed Wood Initiative

Norampac Trenton DivisionNorampac’s Managed Wood Initiative (MWI) requires purchased roundwood to originate from managed forests only. Where wood is harvested from non sustainable sources (aggregate clearing, residential development, etc) a portion of the wood payment is directed to the Hastings Stewardship Council.

Any funding associated with the MWI is directed towards tree planting efforts in the community. In essence areas of forest removal are replaced by reforestation in other areas.
