Hassan Osman Abdelnour Adam: Born in Sudan 1944.

Spent some 30 years as a practitioner forester and teacher

Nagmeldin Goutbi Elhassan Mahmoud. Born in 1958 in

Sudan. Obtained B.Sc. Agriculture Sciences in Alexandria

University, Egypt and M.Sc. Forest Management, University

of Khartoum. One of the IPCC lead authors who received

a personalized certificates for "contributing to the award of

the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 to the IPCC".

Developed a rich expertise (over 30 years) on wide range of

natural resources, environment and development issues.

Including over 17 years’ experience on Climate Change (CC)

related issues, with emphasis on greenhouse gases (GHGs)

inventory, mitigation, adaptation, technology and the

UNFCCC negotiations. Initiated and played a key role in

establishing environment institutions at national and state

levels, the development of national environmental strategies

and adaptation plans, led multi-stakeholder assessments

teams, formulated project documents, analysed GHGs

mitigation options for achieving emission reductions and

sustainable development, and contributed to the

development of methodological approaches, training

programs and application of methods and tools.

Participated in the CC Convention Expert Review Teams

(ERTs) of GHGs inventory and national communication

reports in many developed countries. Jointed the

membership of a number of the constituted bodies under the

CC Convention, Kyoto Protocol and the IPCC task force on

GHGs Inventory. Possess good knowledge in multilateral

negotiation processes. Participating in the UNFCCC

negotiations since 2003 and acted as lead negotiator and

spoke person of the African Group in a number of issues, co-

chaired a number of negotiating groups and coordinated the

Group 77 and China during Sudan’s Chairmanship in 2009

and chaired the African Group of Negotiators in 2014-2015.

Worked as lead author and reviewer in number of the

IPCC scientific publications, in addition to authoring or co-

authoring many scientific papers, technical reports and

other publications. About 13 years working experience with

natural resources and land use management, including

Abdel Ghaffar is a social anthropologist whose research

covers topics related to political, social and economic

development of Africa in general and Sudan and the

Horn of Africa in particular. He holds a Ph.D. in

Economic and Political Anthropology from University of

Bergen, Norway; and has taught social anthropology in

universities in Sudan, Norway, the United States and

Saudi Arabia. He is Professor of Development Studies at

the Women, Gender and Development Institute at

Ahfad University of Women, Sudan. He held an

Adjunct Professor post in the Department of Social

Anthropology, University of Bergen (2005- 2007).

Professor Abdel Ghaffar formerly worked for the

University of Khartoum as a Professor of Social

Anthropology for over 25 years during which he was also

seconded to the Sudan National Council for Research as

a Director of the Economic and Social Research Council

(1976- 1977) and joined the team that established Juba

University, South Sudan (1977- 1978). During 1981-

1984 he directed the Development Studies and

Research Centre (DSRC) at the University of Khartoum.
