de story behind de dutchIt all started in 1974 when De Dutch founder, John Dys, went back home to the Netherlands to visit his parents.

It was in a restaurant that he rediscovered the pannekoek – a traditional Dutch delight, resembling a thinner, flatter, Western-style pancake. He immediately had a vision of bringing the pannekoek to Canada, and a year later, the first ‘Original Dutch Pannekoek House’ was opened in Vancouver, BC.

Since then, our name has changed slightly, but the unique, quality taste of our authentic pannekoek has stayed the same. And while most people still can’t quite pronounce “pannekoek”, it hasn’t stopped them from enjoying it all across Western Canada. We hope you’ll join us for a meal experience that is simply de best.

Proost!
